One Twitter user described him as “a breath of fresh air” and said they “loved the delivery and presentation” of his weather report. A second wrote: “Loving the new happy, happy weatherman on @BBCBreakfast.” A third added: “Worth watching the programme for you.” A number requested to see “more of him please” because they felt he made “even a horrible forecast fun to watch”. Owain’s popularity led to speculation about his future on BBC Breakfast. Before Owain became a hit on BBC Breakfast, his mother was worried about him being verbally attacked for being gay. In 2014, the star told Wales Online that he was “concerned” about coming out to his parents and feared the “difficult” interaction. Owain, who was surprised by how supportive they were, said: “They have been amazing. “It was quite a shock at the beginning because they did not expect it.” Owain claimed his mother was “shocked” when he told her because “she had never thought” he was gay. He recalled: “My mum told me… that it did not affect who I was.” However, knowing of her son’s ambitions to become a TV presenter, she gave him some advice about how to conduct himself. Owain recalled: “She warned me to be careful at what I did in life.” Wales Online claimed her worries were “because of his job” – which would make him a nationally-known figure. They wrote: “She was worried her lad might get negative press.” The response suggested she had concerns that the public might not accept him because of his sexuality. Thankfully, Owain claimed to have encountered very few troubles – the majority of which were online. Since working on TV, he claimed his mother need not have been so worried. Owain said: “No one was bothered and it was not even an issue.” The BBC Breakfast star married his husband Arran Rees four years ago and has made no secret of their hopes to adopt one day in the future. BBC Breakfast airs from 6am on BBC One. James Martin welcomed a host of guests on to his ITV Saturday Morning cooking show which aired a festive edition on Christmas Day. The TV chef prepared a Christmassy dessert for Chris Evans and Denise van Outen but changed his mind when the pair cheekily criticised how long the dish took to make. Turning to Denise, James began: “This is a dish that when I knew you were coming for Christmas I thought I’m going to do a dish that I got from New York because you were on Broadway. “I’m going to do a dish that comes from slightly around the corner from there and it comes from this amazing bakery where I learnt this dish called the monkey bread. “Now I’ve done this before on TV but I’ve never done it with this ice cream. “We’re going to make a chocolate bar ice cream in my Christmas present to myself.” “We’ve seen it,” Chris commented. “We all want one, don’t we Denise?” Read more: James Martin speaks out as major gaffe and apology revisited by ITV “Yes, a nice bit of kit,” she replied. James began preparing the desert and made a special vegan version for Chris but the TV chef kept being interrupted by his guests’ cheeky comments. When it was time to make the ice cream, James said: “This is the only time I’m going to get them both to be quiet. “This is my little Christmas present to myself, [inside] is a vegan ice cream with chocolate bars in it, frozen solid. “Put it in this machine and there’s a blade that sits underneath and the blade goes all the way down and back up again.” “Now we’re with you,” Chris said and Denise echoed: “I’m with you, I can’t even speak.” “Oh you’re back in the room now, are you?” James asked. Earlier in the show, James quizzed Denise on performing in her cabaret show during the coronavirus pandemic. Denise said: “We’re very lucky with the cabaret show in London because it’s a restaurant setting so even in Tier two, three we could still open and perform and it did really well.” “We’ve had acts from Cirque du Soleil, Moulin Rouge, all the Vegas showgirls. “I absolutely love it, I thrive off of it, I chat to the audience, I compére the evening, I sing, then the acts perform while I sing.” “It’s quite spectacular, it’s lovely. I really enjoy it,” she added. Denise went on to discuss her upcoming Dancing On Ice stint, she said: “I’ve got to be honest I’ve watched the show for many years with my daughter. “She loves it at her age, it’s magical. I always said I’d never do it because I’m too scared. “I did Strictly in 2012 and I loved it and it was hard but this is a million times harder. “It doesn’t matter how good you are at dancing it’s all about your balance and losing the fear really.” James Martin’s Saturday Morning continues on ITV on Boxing Day at 10.40am. Poor old Captain America. Having been frozen since the Second World War, it’s not surprising he’s struggling with getting up to date on modern technology. Throughout the MCU movies, he’s occasionally expressed the Grandpa within him seeing as he’s really 100-years-old. But when Chris Evans has a Steve Rogersism in real-life, of course, his Avengers Endgame co-star Downey Jr is going to make fun of him just like Iron Man would. Evans tweeted: “Dear All Technology, Remember the 90’s when you just WORKED??? “I don’t need a ‘smart’ feature on my TV, thermostat, lights, music, refrigerator, security cameras, and f-ing car. “You’re a major pain in all of our asses. You’re not worth it. Signed, Everyone.” Downey Jr replied: “Hey @MarkRuffalo looks like Cap needs a little tutoring from the science bros.” Except they were mocked up with Buzz as Iron Man and Woody as Captain America. A caption on the artwork reads: “To Infinity War and Beyond.” Both actors’ contracts come to an end with Avengers Endgame, so who knows what Iron Man and Captain America’s fates will be. Avengers Endgame will be released in UK cinemas on April 26, 2019. Chris, 52, will be returning to Virgin Radio at the beginning on next year, having had a show on the station 20 years ago. The former BBC Radio 2 breakfast show presenter stood down from his role on the broadcaster in September after 13 years hosting his show. However, in an announcement on his departure, Chris promised listeners he would be staying with the station until Christmas with his last date set to air on 24 December. Appearing on The One Show last night, Chris revealed when listeners could expect to hear him on his new breakfast show with Virgin Radio, which will begin 21 January 2019. Chris sat down with presenters Matt Baker, 40, and Alex Jones, 41, the radio presenter said: “Over just a year ago, last November, somebody pointed out the fact I’d been at Radio 2 for 12 years.” After telling BBC bosses he was thinking of moving on, Chris added: “Virgin Radio came in and said if you’re serious about moving on, maybe we could do something special. “They said, ‘Well what about the first ever commercial radio breakfast show without any adverts,’ so that’s what were doing.” He then went on to reveal the air date, adding: “So we start 21 Jan, 6.30am until 10am so half an hour extra because Sky have come in as a commercial partner.” Explains what listeners can expect from his shows, Chris said: “We’ll go to Formula 1 events with listeners, we’ll go to the set of Game Of Thrones…we’ll fill it with that kind of content. The One Show hosts then went on to congratulate Chris for his efforts at the BBC, with Chris going on to say it will be sad to leave on Monday. Chris will be replaced by Strictly Come Dancing It Takes Two host Zoe Ball, 48, when the BBC Radio 2 Breakfast show returns in January. “Zoe’s going to be on in January. Zoe’s brilliant and I took over from Terry [Wogan] – we’re all working for Terry, we all still work for Terry,” going on to praise the former breakfast radio host. Speaking of Chris’ appointment, Sky CEO for the UK & Ireland, Stephen van Rooyen said: “The Chris Evans Breakfast Show on Virgin Radio will bring audiences something completely new, bold and fresh – everything we love at Sky. “We’re excited to create an innovative radio first with Chris and Virgin Radio, and bring Sky customers even more of the entertainment they love when Virgin Radio launches across Sky from 7 January.” Following the announcement of her role as the first ever female host of the BBC Radio 2 Breakfast show, Zoe said: “This is bonkers. I’m not underestimating the task ahead of me.” Zoe added she hoped to continue presenting It Takes Two alongside her role on the Breakfast show. “That’s my other favourite job. So I’m really hoping I’ll be able to do both.” The hot favourite to replace Chris when he made the announcement, Sara Cox, 44, will stand in for Zoe when she takes breaks from the show. Standing in for Chris for short breaks while he was away from the station, Zoe has already had experience of manning the fort. The Chris Evans Breakfast Show will air 21 January 2019 on Virgin Radio.

Did Chris Evans accidentally spoil Avengers 4 when he recently tweeted about how he was saying goodbye to the character of Captain America? No! Well, at least that’s what he wants us to think. Evans recently appeared at a comic convention in Chicago to clarify his comment and reassure fans that he did not, in fact, ruin anything about the fate of the Star Spangled man with a plan. But maybe, just maybe, Marvel security got to him and are now orchestrating an elaborate cover-up campaign to throw fans off the scent.
Eh, probably not, though. Chances are pretty good that Evans is simply just telling the truth. Keep reading to learn about how he didn’t actually spoil Avengers 4.
The Russos just wrapped production on Avengers 4, but Evans finished his on-set work a few days ago, when he tweeted the following:
Officially wrapped on Avengers 4. It was an emotional day to say the least. Playing this role over the last 8 years has been an honor. To everyone in front of the camera, behind the camera, and in the audience, thank you for the memories! Eternally grateful.
— Chris Evans (@ChrisEvans) October 4, 2018
Frenzied speculation began instantly in fan circles: does this mean that Captain America dies in Avengers 4? Is that why Evans is saying goodbye to the character? Did one of the stars of a franchise really just spoil a huge moment in what is sure to be one of the biggest blockbuster movies in years?
At Chicago’s ACE Comic Con this weekend (via The Hollywood Reporter), Evans provided more context for his tweet:
“I should clarify that, I know I did tweet something that made a lot of people think that it was in some way a spoiler, and I should clarify that, regardless of how Avengers 4 ends, I would’ve tweeted the exact same thing. That last day of filming really was a very emotional day. It was the culmination of almost 10 years of filming and 22 movies, this unbelievable tapestry and you feel a lot more emotions than I think even I thought I’d feel, and I felt it was appropriate to share the gratitude. I know it had a ripple effect, but I am neither confirming or denying anything.”
One could argue that Evans has been in the Marvel game for long enough know that he would never purposefully spoil anything, while another could point to Mark Ruffalo spoiling Avengers: Infinity War as a counterpoint to that argument. But as a counter to that argument, I’d say that it was clear that Ruffalo was just joking around at the time. I should probably just stop arguing with myself – this is exhausting.
The actor went on to say that the year-long wait between movies will be well worth it for audiences:
“It’s never been done before and I don’t know if it will ever be done again and they really stick a flag in the ground on this one and pull out all the stops and you won’t be disappointed.”
Meanwhile, Evans is gearing up to start shooting Rian Johnson’s upcoming murder mystery Knives Out, a film that will see him team up with Daniel Craig, Lakeith Stanfield, and Michael Shannon.

Earlier this week Evans tweeted to fans announcing his retirement as Captain America.
The 37-year-old star has played Steve Rogers across three Captain America movies and four Avengers outing, not to mention cameoing in others.
Now as Marvel‘s Avengers 4 reshoots begin to wrap, the actor is finally done and co-star Downey Jr has responded.
The Tony Stark star tweeted: “We all know who the real sheriff in town is @ChrisEvans.”
Downey Jr accompanied his tweet with a picture of Woody and Buzz Lightyear from the Toy Story franchise.
Except they were mocked up with Buzz as Iron Man and Woody as Captain America.
A caption on the artwork reads: “To Infinity War and Beyond.”
Evans’ original tweet read: “Officially wrapped on Avengers 4.
“It was an emotional day to say the least.
“Playing this role over the last 8 years has been an honour.
“To everyone in front of the camera, behind the camera, and in the audience, thank you for the memories! Eternally grateful.”
Hopefully you weren’t looking forward to that Gareth Evans directed Deathstroke movie, because it’s not happening. At least, not anytime soon. Evans revealed that the film, which was set to star Joe Manganiello, is dormant, and has been for quite some time. That’s not to say Deathstroke won’t star in his own adventure sometime in the future. Just don’t hold your breath.
Remember this post-credit scene from Justice League? I’m sure you do. Who could forget a single frame from that film?
Joe Manganiello’s Deathstroke shows up and has a few words with Jesse Eisenberg’s Lex Luthor. The plan, at the time at least, was for an entire Deathstroke film, directed by The Raid filmmaker Gareth Evans, but so far, nothing has come of it. Evans is out doing promotion for his brutal Netflix horror film Apostle, so ComicBook decided to seize the opportunity and ask: just what the heck is going on with the Deathstroke movie? Evans’ answer? Nothing.
“Nothing really went beyond [early conversations],” Evans said. “I haven’t heard anything for a really long time.” Evans then added:
“To be honest, every time I see an article written I keep wanting to ask, ‘Okay, what is it you guys know that I don’t know?’ Because I haven’t heard anything for a good while yet. So I don’t know if that will ever come back full circle at some point. But I know I haven’t had any conversation about that project for a long time now.”
I can’t say I’m very surprised about this news. Deathstroke was part of the old DCEU, which is in a kind of limbo right now. After Batman v. Superman, Suicide Squad and Justice League failed to generate much positive reaction, Warner Bros. and DC are retooling things. That’s not to say the DCEU is dead, of course. Aquaman is arriving at the end of the year. And in 2019, Shazam! and Wonder Woman 1984, both technically DCEU films, will hit theaters. But Aquaman and Shazam! were already in a state of development, and Wonder Woman was the only really positively received DCEU film, which made its sequel inevitable. Everything else, though, is likely now on the back-burner. Birds of Prey is currently in development, which will feature Suicide Squad‘s Harley Quinn, but will likely have little connection to the DCEU as we previously knew it. And then there’s the standalone Joker movie with Joaquin Phoenix, which isn’t connected to the DCEU at all.
In short: Deathstroke is probably dead, which is a shame. But hey, we’ll always have that beautiful, brief moment where the character got to talk to Lex Luthor on a yacht for a few minutes.

In this edition of TV bits:
Chris Evans is the latest big name to head to Apple’s streaming service. The Captain America actor will star in the limited series Defending Jacob, based on the novel by William Landay. Here’s the book’s synopsis:
Andy Barber has been an assistant district attorney for two decades. He is respected. Admired in the courtroom. Happy at home with the loves of his life: his wife, Laurie, and their teenage son, Jacob.
Then Andy’s quiet suburb is stunned by a shocking crime: a young boy stabbed to death in a leafy park. And an even greater shock: The accused is Andy’s own son—shy, awkward, mysterious Jacob.
Andy believes in Jacob’s innocence. Any parent would. But the pressure mounts. Damning evidence. Doubt. A faltering marriage. The neighbors’ contempt. A murder trial that threatens to obliterate Andy’s family.
It is the ultimate test for any parent: How far would you go to protect your child? It is a test of devotion. A test of how well a parent can know a child. For Andy Barber, a man with an iron will and a dark secret, it is a test of guilt and innocence in the deepest sense.
Per THR, Mark Bomback will adapt the book into a TV show. Evans joins an increasingly impressive line-up of talent for Apple’s streaming service, including Jennifer Aniston, Reese Witherspoon, Damien Chazelle, M. Night Shymalan and more.
Modern Family is about to begin its 10th season – and the odds of season 11 are looking more and more likely. Deadline reports “conversations are still ongoing between ABC and Modern Family producer 20th Century Fox TV for a shorter 11th season, with a final season order in the neighborhood of 18 episodes discussed.” If this happens, it will be the final season of the show. The creators and cast both are aimiable to returning for one final season, and now it’s just a matter of finalizing a deal. So there you have it: the end of Modern Family is nigh.
Lore, the spooky podcast that became a spooky TV series, is coming back for a second season. The Amazon show explores “real-life frightening and disturbing tales that give rise to modern-day myths and legends.” Based on this effective trailer, season 2 is featuring stories about Elizabeth Bathory – the “Blood Countess” who bathed in blood to stay young, infamous grave robbers Burke and Hare, and more. I’ll confess that I didn’t enjoy Lore season 1 – the production values were a bit shoddy, and the narration – from podcast creator Aaron Mahnke – left a lot to be desired. But this trailer sold me on checking out season 2, which premieres October 19, 2018.
In Netflix’s The Good Cop, “Tony Danza plays Big Tony, a lovable yet not exactly honorable, former NYPD officer who never followed the rules. He lives with his son, TJ, Josh Groban, a brilliant, straight-laced NYPD detective who makes a point of always following the rules while solving Brooklyn’s toughest cases. This “odd couple” become unofficial partners as Tony Sr. offers his overly-cautious son blunt, street-wise advice.” Reviews for the show have been a bit mixed, but this behind-the-scenes video featuring Danza and Groban is charming. The duo hang out in a kitchen (actually, a set), cooking and chatting and making jokes. A part of me just wishes this was the show rather than the whole cop story. The Good Cop is now streaming on Netflix.
The Deuce, HBO’s series from David Simon and George Pellecanos, just started its second season. Now word comes that the show has been renewed for a third, and final, season as well. We’re always conjuring the last scene before we write the first,” Simon said on Twitter. “So much the better when we work for people who allow us to consistently plan, arc and execute as intended.” Starring James Franco and Maggie Gyllenhaal, The Deuce “follows the story of the legalization and subsequent rise of the porn industry in New York’s Times Square from the early 1970s through the mid-1980s, exploring the rough-and-tumble world that existed there until the rise of HIV, the violence of the cocaine epidemic and the renewed real estate market all ended the bawdy turbulence.” Even though I’m a fan of Simon and Pellecanos’ work, I’ve yet to watch The Deuce. Now that I know an ending is in sight, perhaps I’ll start.
We recently reported that AMC has plans to keep some form of The Walking Dead going for at least 10 more years (!), via movies and spin-offs. In the meantime, season 9 of the zombie show is about to start, and here’s a teaser to prove it. The Walking Dead will be going through some big changes this year, as actors Andrew Lincoln and Lauren Cohan are both leaving the show, while fan-favorite Norman Reedus is being bumped up to the lead. The Walking Dead season 9 premieres on AMC October 7, 2018.
CBS is developing a supernatural cop drama called Far Rockaway. David Wilcox will write the series, and Alex Kurtzman will produce. Per Deadline, the show follows “a workaholic NYPD detective killed in the line of duty is granted a second chance to return to earth in the body of another cop in order to bring his killer to justice and heal the fractured family he left behind.” That kind of sounds like RoboCop, without the robot angle.

— Adam Sandler (@AdamSandler) September 21, 2018
Adam Sandler has a new stand-up special coming to Netflix, and you can watch a teaser above. The show, Adam Sandler’s 100% FRESH, will premiere on Netflix October 23. This teaser is very low on any actual content – it features Sandler coming on stage and dancing to a jaunty tune, and then ends with him making a goofy voice. Not a whole lot to go on! But one thing we do know about the special: a part of it was directed by Paul Thomas Anderson. Anderson previously directed Sandler in the excellent Punch-Drunk Love, and it should be interesting to see just what part of the special the filmmaker directed. The special as a whole, however, is being credited to director Steven Brill (Mr. Deeds, Little Nicky). Sandler hasn’t had a solo stand-up special since 1996, so this marks a return of sorts.

Back in 2016, Chris was reduced to tears as he appeared on Top Gear sister show Extra Gear, recalling how his mother had bought him his first car.
“People might not understand how a car can make you feel that way, how it can stir up those emotions but just for the benefit of those people, how can hunk of metal convey those kinds of emotions?” asked co-star Rory Reid.
Chris explained: “Because it’s not about a hunk of metal is it?
“It’s about a memory trigger point. You know, my mum bought me my first ever car and she couldn’t afford it.”
Chris took a moment to pause as he became overwhelmed with emotion at the touching memory while his fellow presenter touched his arm in support.
He continued: “So it was about that.
“It was about being overwhelmed by such an amazing car and I suppose what I’m saying is the only other car that’s ever made me feel like that car did, and actually more so, was the Mini.
“So that’s what my tears were for.”
This morning, the DJ announced his mother had died “just before” he was due to present his BBC Radio 2 breakfast programme.
The 52-year-old revealed he had only discovered the devastating news shortly before going on air before describing her as “incredible”.
Vassos Alexander acted as a stand-in for the host and read out a note Chris had left behind.
He began: ”Chris isn’t here. He has been here. But he had to go just before we went on air.
“But he’s left a note for me to read out on air. This is very difficult because he is one of my best friends.”
Vassos then read out a statement from Chris as he left to be with family.
It stated: “The reason I’m not with you today is because just before I came on air my mum passed away and I needed to go straight back home to be with my family.
“But it’s all OK, in fact it’s very OK, mum needed to be at peace.”
Chris went on: ”Moreover she needed to be at peace for some time now and as she has throughout her life in death she has brought us together.
“She was an incredible woman. Anyone who has ever met her will tell you that an ultimately there was no battle lost only a life won. Every single day. I’ll be back tomorrow.”
The father-of-three said his mother would have been “furious” if she knew he had missed a show.
“If mum had the first idea I might not have shown up today because of her she would have been furious.
“I hope you have a lovely Thursday. See you tomorrow.”
