Princess Eugenie, 28, is marrying her long-term partner Jack Brooksbank this October.

Eugenie has been planning the wedding for months but has kept most of the big day’s details under wraps.

But the Princess has recently revealed some pretty big details about her upcoming nuptials, including details on her wedding dress and the unusual rule that she and Jack will be enforcing.

A big advocate for sustainability, Eugenie has banned the use of all plastic from her big day.

Appearing on the cover of British Vogue’s September issue, the 28-year-old revealed she intends for her wedding to be completely plastic free.

“My whole house is anti-plastic now – and Jack and I want our wedding to be like that as well,” said Eugenie.

The bride-to-be is a big advocate for environmental issues, recently becoming the ambassador of Project O, an organisation which aims to restore and protect the ocean.

In a recent Instagram post, she expressed her feelings towards plastic, writing: “Together we inspire people to make sustainable choices to stop the ocean drowning in plastic #plasticfree.”

In the same interview, Eugenie also revealed one detail about her wedding dress – it is being designed by a British brand.

Talking to Vogue, she said: “[The dress] is the one thing that I was really decisive about. As soon as we announced the wedding, I knew the designer, and the look, straight away.

Eugenie is following in the footsteps of Kate Middleton and Meghan Markle, who both had British-born designers create their stunning and memorable dresses.

Kate wore Sarah Burton for Alexander McQueen and Meghan wore British designer Clare Waight Keller for Givenchy.

Despite the eyes of the world set to be on Eugenie in just two months, she revealed that she is actually “not stressed at all”.

Gushing about her fiancé, Jack, she said: ”It’s very nerve-wracking because you want it to be perfect but then you realise that you’re going to be with the person you love forever and nothing else really matters.”

In another more romantic move, It has been reported that the Royal Family won’t be making Jack Brooksbank sign a prenuptial agreement before the wedding.

As a member of the British Royal Family, Eugenie is part of one of the richest families in the world but is also reported to have a personal net worth of around £3.6 million.

But despite her personal wealth, it is believed that Jack won’t actually be signing a prenup before the couple’s wedding in October.

According to royal expert Kate Nicholl, prenups are not a thing in the Royal Family, with not one of the Queen’s children having pre-marriage agreements.

With three of her children going through divorces, it would make sense for the Royals to now impose prenups, but that is believed to not be the case.

Talking to Town & Country Katie said: “I don’t think members of the royal family sign prenuptial agreements. It’s commonplace with celebrity marriage, but this is not a celebrity marriage, it’s a royal marriage.”

Facebook will begin actively enforcing its age policy https://briefnews.eu/facebook-will-begin-actively-enforcing-its-age-policy/ https://briefnews.eu/facebook-will-begin-actively-enforcing-its-age-policy/#respond Thu, 19 Jul 2018 17:29:09 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/facebook-will-begin-actively-enforcing-its-age-policy/

Facebook is tweaking its policies towards underage users, TechCrunch reports, and it will begin requiring those suspected of being younger than 13 years old to provide proof of their age. The move comes after a report from the UK’s Channel 4, in which an undercover journalist began working as a Facebook content reviewer. Though Facebook and Instagram require users to be at least 13 years of age — in order to comply with the US Child Online Privacy Protection Act — the report revealed that in practice, those rules were often ignored. “We have to have an admission that the person is underage,” a trainer told the reporter. “If not, we just pretend that we are blind and that we don’t know what underage looks like.”

But going forward, that hands-off approach will be replaced by a more proactive policy. Previously, reviewers would only look into the age of a user if their account was specifically reported as being from someone who might be underage. But now, reviewers will lock the accounts of those suspected of being underage anytime their accounts are noted for review, regardless of the reason why. In a blog post, Facebook said, “Since the program, we have been working to update the guidance for reviewers to put a hold on any account they encounter if they have a strong indication it is underage, even if the report was for something else.” And locked accounts can only be unlocked if users prove they’re at least 13 years old, with a government issued ID, for example.

While young children aren’t allowed to have Facebook and Instagram accounts, at least in theory, the company has been working to draw in younger users with its Messenger Kids app. The kid-only messaging app continues to expand to more devices and more countries despite some outcry from those concerned about exposing young children to social media and overuse of digital technology.

Meanwhile, a recent study found that interest in Facebook seems to be declining among younger populations while Instagram use is growing.

Over the past year, online dating service OkCupid has shaken up a few of its core features, and the changes have all pushed the service far closer to resembling rival dating app Tinder. Thursday’s big change, however, sees the site borrowing a subtler Tinder “feature” that has long enraged users of other online platforms: a real-name policy, coming before year’s end.

“We all have real names,” the company’s open letter states while listing a variety of goofy-sounding handles that the unnamed author insists are taken from real dating accounts. “We know, this is tough to hear. It’s because, like the recent goodbye we said to AIM screen names, it’s time to keep up with the times. We want you, BigDaddyFlash916, to go by who you are, and not be hidden beneath another layer of mystique.”

The feature will only display first names, and OkCupid says no outside-service verification will be used to confirm that the name matches your actual identity. An OkCupid spokesperson tells Ars Technica that the only requirements are a two-letter minimum without numbers, symbols, or emojis and that it will operate a “banned word” list, whose contents it did not disclose.

On Monday, Twitter said it would begin enforcing new rules that were announced a month ago as a way to “reduce hateful and abusive content.”

In particular, the new rules ban violent threats or even “wishing for serious physical harm.” For now, the most prominent accounts that have been removed for running afoul of these rules were three affiliated with a far-right United Kingdom group known as “Britain First.” (For an example of the group’s content: last month, President Donald Trump retweeted violent videos from the group that claimed to show violence perpetrated by Muslim immigrants to Europe, when in fact it did not.)

Twitter did not provide a list of other accounts that have been immediately affected, and the company did not respond to Ars’ request for comment pre-publication.

Comcast met with Federal Communications Commission Chairman Ajit Pai’s staff this week in an attempt to prevent states from issuing net neutrality rules.

As the FCC prepares to gut its net neutrality rules, broadband providers are worried that states might enact their own laws to prevent ISPs from blocking, throttling, or discriminating against online content.

Comcast Senior VP Frank Buono and a Comcast attorney met with Pai Chief of Staff Matthew Berry and Senior Counsel Nicholas Degani on Monday, the company said in an ex parte filing that describes the meeting.

Weight loss: Overweight couple Amber and Bo shed 22 stone between them

Amber Wagner, 23, and husband Bo, 25, were slim when they fell in love at 16 but their combined weight DOUBLED to 50st after they tied the knot.

The childhood sweethearts guzzled 10 cans of soda a day between them, devoured ice cream for breakfast and sometimes binged on fast food three meals a day.

Other days they would munch through bags of pizza rolls, corn dogs and potato chips or cook hearty casseroles.

When they met, customer services rep Amber weighed 9st and machinist Bo 15st, but after three years of marriage they had both ballooned to a staggering 25st.

In that time they had two children, Gavin, now four, and Octavia, one, and not only had they piled on the pounds, they had only had sex 10 or so times because they were “too big” and it “wasn’t fun”.

But it wasn’t until Bo lost his job and they hit “rock bottom” and were pushed to the brink of divorce that they decided something had to change.

The couple say the fear of breaking up prompted them to overhaul their lifestyle and they lost more than 22 stone combined, with Amber dropping to 11st and Bo to 17st.

Now the loved-up duo are happier than ever – and Amber kick started her weight loss by following one rule; she was only allowed seconds after dinner if she got up off the sofa to get it.

Weight loss: The couple’s weight ballooned when Amber fell pregnant, but now they have slimmed down

Size 14 (UK) Amber, of West Virginia, US, said: “When I was big I was miserable. It was the worst time of my life.

“I didn’t want to get up off the couch. We were gross people. We never cleaned or took care of anything, we would just let the dishes pile up and whine and complain.

Bo added: “I never stopped loving Amber but we were not very happy and we were both unhealthy.

“We were always tired and we would fight a lot. We almost got a divorce – we were really serious about that – but it ended up being a turning point.”

The couple met in 2011 through their families and it was “love at first sight”. The following year, Amber fell pregnant with their first child.

Amber, now a mum of two, said: “I was eating for two and he ate with me. I could sit and eat five or six hot dogs in one go and we would get through three 24 packs of soda a week. If we didn’t go out for fast food at least once a day I would be surprised.”

By 2015, the new mum’s weight had shot up to a staggering 25.7stone while Bo tipped the scales at 25 stone.

Amber was wearing a size 28 (UK) while Bo squeezed into XXXL shirts. To make matters worse, the couple estimate that they spent a toe-curling $ 20,000 (£15,000) on junk food since moving in together

Amber added: “We were quite selfish in my eyes. We just felt sorry for ourselves. But we hit rock bottom after Bo was laid off and we lost our house in 2014.

“Up until that point we had never thought about getting a divorce but there was one day that we got into an argument and talked about it. That was all it took for us both to say, ‘Something has to change.'”

First, Amber started limiting what she ate by introducing a rule – if she wanted a second plate of food enough to get off the couch to get it, she could have it. Often couldn’t bring herself to walk to the kitchen so she started eating less – and Bo followed suit.

Then the pair cut out red meat, instead eating turkey – and within one month of making that change, in November 2015, they both lost 1.5 stone.

They stopped drinking soda and banned fast food – but still eat home-cooked potato fries or peanut butter jelly sandwiches for lunch and cheesy enchiladas for dinner.

Weight loss: The couple say their staggering weight loss has made them closer

Losing weight has 120 per cent improved our relationship

Amber Wagner

They also wake up at 6am every morning to work out for an hour, so in spite of their not-totally-healthy diet, Amber and Bo slimmed down drastically.

Bo said: “Now people I haven’t seen in a month stop me and say, ‘Holy cow, where did you go?’. Life is better. When we have an extra $ 50, instead of spending it on dinner we are doing things with the kids.

“Our sex life has improved too. When we were big, in the first three years of marriage we had two kids and had sex about 10 times. We were too big, it was hard and it wasn’t fun.

“But now we are feeling better that has definitely definitely got much better. It’s crazy how much how you are feeling has to do with it. I really believe that losing weight has brought us back together again.”

Amber said: “Losing weight has 120 per cent improved our relationship. It gave us common ground again.

“We both knew the other was miserable but losing weight together gave us something to bond over and we reconnected. The fear of breaking up spurred us on.”

CFL's 1st Metis referee spends bulk of his life enforcing rules https://briefnews.eu/cfls-1st-metis-referee-spends-bulk-of-his-life-enforcing-rules/ https://briefnews.eu/cfls-1st-metis-referee-spends-bulk-of-his-life-enforcing-rules/#respond Wed, 21 Jun 2017 18:53:36 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/cfls-1st-metis-referee-spends-bulk-of-his-life-enforcing-rules/ On Friday, June 30 Brian Chrupalo will put down his badge for the stripes to begin officiating another Canadian Football League season. Chrupalo is the league’s first-ever Metis official and has spent much of his life enforcing the rules.

Chrupalo has been a referee in the CFL for the past 13 seasons. He’s also been a Winnipeg police officer in the neighbourhood he grew up in for the past 24 years.

“There are rules for both. That’s the important part for me. And there are consequences on the streets and on the field,” Chrupalo said. “I watch them and monitor situations and if there’s someone operating outside of those rules I have to call a foul.”

Chrupalo sees his policing work on the streets as bridging the gap between police and people. Now he’s bridging the gap between the CFL and NFL after it was recently announced he will be part of the NFL exchange program.

“It’s quite an honour to be selected by the CFL and to go and represent the rest of the officials is quite an accomplishment I think,” he said.

This is just the second year for the program, which has six CFL officials heading south to officiate an NFL pre-season game in August. Chrupalo just got back from a training camp in Green Bay.

Chrupalo has officiated three Grey Cup championships including last year’s game in Toronto.

Growing up in north Winnipeg

Chrupalo said there’s a sign at the beginning of the neighbourhood that welcomes people travelling across a bridge from downtown into north Winnipeg.

“It’s been there for ever and it’s a bit of a welcome to the north end,” he said.

Chrupalo has seen that sign since he was kid. It’s where he grew up.

“I grew up in Manitoba housing. There are some socio-economic problems that come up in that area,” Chrupalo said.

Despite some of the challenges facing the community, there’s no other place Chrupalo would have wanted to have grown up and now police, pointing directly to its diverse range of people to being as its strength.

“You can live on the same street with somebody who owns several businesses and very successful or you can have someone who lives in Manitoba housing. There’s a lot variety and a lot of great people,” he said.

Chrupalo credits two factors that have contributed to success throughout his childhood: His mom, and sports.

“I was very fortunate to have my mom. She was a stay at home mom and my dad worked all the time. It was busy. I was an active kid.”

A recognizable face

Chrupalo has spent his entire life in north Winnipeg and so when it comes to policing the streets, he comes across many familiar faces.

“I grew up in that area and come into contact with people I grew up with, people that I have coached and people that I’ve refereed,” he said.

“They’ll come up and talk to me because they knew me before I was police officer.”

brian-chrupalo-police

Chrupalo, left, is recognizable face in the community he serves. Brian Chrupal (Brian Chrupalo)

Those relationships are important to Chrupalo because he understands that in some cases the perception people have of police can be a negative one and he wants to change that.

“They’ll see me in a police car and come up to me and talk about things. Or people will be walking down the street and recognize me from football and it’s a good opportunity to not just have a police contact but have somebody talk to,” Chrupalo said.

He also uses his position as police officer to give back, making sure less fortunate families have presents at Christmas, candy at Halloween, or in one particular case raise funds to purchase a bike for an 11-year-old boy who was robbed.

Chrupalo is relentless in his investing back into community.

“I donate as much as I can to give back to improve people’s day.”

Finding the balance

Chrupalo says at times it can be difficult being an officer the neighbourhood he knows so well. But despite having grown up and having spent a lot of time with many of the people he’ll come into contact with, he’s been able to maintain healthy boundaries around those relationships.

“As a police officer there are rules and regulations but at the same time you can have a personality and do your job,” said Chrupalo.

Whether on the streets or on the football field, Chrupalo wants to be someone who is considered fair.

“I have a little bit of discretion, for example, when I see someone drinking on the street I ask them to pour it out. If I can’t drink on the street, you can’t drink on the street. And I tell them to please pour out their alcohol, that I’m going to leave and come back and if they’re still there I’ll give them a ticket.”

Chrupalo said it comes down to presenting people with choices as opposed to being the law.

“I don’t think people appreciate that as much. I think it’s important that people have the ability to talk about things.”

The power of sport and identity

Chrupalo said he didn’t know it at the time, but when he looks back on his childhood he realizes it was sport that kept him focused on achieving goals.

“It kept me busy and it kept me out of trouble.”

Chrupalo played rugby and football throughout high school and when he’s policing the streets he tries to be that positive role model for young kids, the same way people were for him.

“Maybe I took it for granted. People ask me about role models and teachers and coaches were mine. They gave their time and gave back to the community. They kept kids from getting into trouble.”

He’s also extremely proud of his Metis heritage.

“I’ve always had opportunities so I don’t consider being a Metis man a challenge, in fact the service embraces it.”
