From 2005 to 2020, Bob Iger ruled over the Walt Disney Company from his throne in Burbank, CA. Just like others monarchs throughout history, he expanded his borders during his reign by acquiring the surrounding kingdoms of Pixar, Marvel, Lucasfilm, and 21st Century Fox. He also rescued Disney’s first star, Oswald the Lucky Rabbit, from a rival kingdom (NBCUniversal), revitalized the company’s theme parks around the world, and refocused their approach to streaming through services like Disney+ and Hulu. And though some of his loyal subjects may have had their fair share of valid criticisms over the course of his reign, Iger was largely a benevolent ruler due to his longtime philanthropy and the positive impact that he and his company made on their worldwide audience.

In a classic case of “game recognizes game,” the late Queen Elizabeth II decided to award Iger by bestowing upon him the title of Honorary Knight of the Order of the British Empire. Approving the award prior to her death earlier this month, the official citation declared that the former Disney Chairman and CEO is being recognized for his contributions to U.K./U.S. relations. This title of KBE is the second-highest rank in the Order that can be given to a non-U.K. citizen.

However, Iger wasn’t the only legendary name from receiving the honor this year.

Imperial March

In addition to Bob Iger, legendary composer and conductor John Williams is also receiving the title of Honorary Knight of the Order of the British Empire this year “for services to film music.” Williams is widely regarded as one of the most influential film composers of all time. Over the course of his illustrious career, he has been nominated for 52 Academy Awards, 6 Emmys, 25 Golden Globes, and 71 Grammys. But more importantly, he’s responsible for creating the unforgettable music behind “Jurassic Park,” the Indiana Jones franchise, “E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial,” the Star Wars franchise, and many, many fan favorite films.

The Round Table

Both Iger and Williams join a venerable list of influential people being honored by the British crown this year. Other recipients include Costa Rican diplomat and international climate leader Christiania Figueres, Honorary Consul for Greater Philadelphia Oliver Franklin, chef and author Ken Hom, and US Congressman George Holding, as well as a number of medical professionals, scholars, teachers, designers, and more.

In a statement from Iger (via The Wrap), he shared how special this award is to him and how it is “one of the great honors of my life to have the honorary Knight of the British Empire conferred on me by [the Queen] before she passed.” Iger continued:

“Our two nations share a strong bond, which I have seen up close over many years through my deep personal and professional connections to the United Kingdom. I have great affection for the people of the UK, and have always appreciated and been inspired by their extraordinary contributions, particularly in the creative arts.”

There’s currently no word on if Iger was inspired enough to suggest a change to the Disney Legend Award to include some kind of knightly title, but we’ll be sure to update you as the story develops. Trump, who received hundreds of millions of dollars from his father’s real estate empire, calls John Fetterman spoiled: ‘He lived off his parents’ money’ https://briefnews.eu/trump-who-received-hundreds-of-millions-of-dollars-from-his-fathers-real-estate-empire-calls-john-fetterman-spoiled-he-lived-off-his-parents-money/ https://briefnews.eu/trump-who-received-hundreds-of-millions-of-dollars-from-his-fathers-real-estate-empire-calls-john-fetterman-spoiled-he-lived-off-his-parents-money/#respond Sun, 04 Sep 2022 04:58:21 +0000 https://briefnews.eu/trump-who-received-hundreds-of-millions-of-dollars-from-his-fathers-real-estate-empire-calls-john-fetterman-spoiled-he-lived-off-his-parents-money/ A photo of Donald Trump in a blue suit with a red tie stitched to a photo of John Fetterman in a black hoodie with a microphone
  • Former President Donald Trump attacked Democrat candidate John Fetterman at a Pennsylvania rally.
  • He called Fetterman spoiled and said he "leeched off his parents' money."
  • Trump was in Pennsylvania to support Republicans Dr. Mehmet Oz and Doug Mastriano.

Former President Donald Trump said Democrat candidate Lt. Gov. John Fetterman "is a spoiled and entitled socialist loser who leeched off his parents' money" during a rally in Pennsylvania on Saturday.

In 2018, The New York Times debunked Trump's claims that he was a self-made billionaire. The outlet reported Trump received the equivalent of at least $ 413 million from his father's real estate empire, beginning when he was a toddler.

Trump also said Fetterman, who is running against Republican Dr. Mehmet Oz for a seat in the US Senate, "lives on his parents' money" and alleged Fetterman uses drugs.

Fetterman has served as the lieutenant governor of Pennsylvania since 2019. Prior to that, he was the mayor of Braddock, Pennsylvania, for 13 years. The Philadelphia Inquirer reported that Fetterman's parents supported him well into his 40s because he was only earning $ 150 per month during his mayorship. Fetterman has acknowledged this support and now earns $ 217,610 as lieutenant governor.

In response to Trump's comments, Joe Calvello, the director of communications for Fetterman tweeted "more and more lies from Trump and Dr. Oz; another day, but it's the same shit from these two desperate and sad dudes.'

The former president was campaigning for Republicans Oz and Doug Mastriano — a candidate for state governor —  before the November midterm elections.

According to recent polls, Fetterman is ahead of Oz by 8.1 points in the race to represent Pennsylvania in the US Senate.

Saturday's rally was the first one Trump has appeared at since the FBI searched his Mar-a-Lago estate on August 8 and discovered more than 10,000 government documents, according to a publicly released inventory.

At the podium, Trump once again decried the search, claiming that the FBI raided the "hopes and dreams" of the American's he's been "fighting for."

He then took the opportunity to call President Joe Biden "an enemy of the state" in response to comments Biden made on Thursday lambasting "MAGA forces" for fanning the "flames of political violence."

Trump also ridiculed Mark Zuckerberg, saying the Meta CEO begged the former president to have dinner with him last week.

Representatives for Trump and Fetterman did not immediately respond to Insider's request for comment.

Empire Spinoff Starring Taraji P. Henson as Cookie Not Moving Forward at Fox https://briefnews.eu/empire-spinoff-starring-taraji-p-henson-as-cookie-not-moving-forward-at-fox/ https://briefnews.eu/empire-spinoff-starring-taraji-p-henson-as-cookie-not-moving-forward-at-fox/#respond Tue, 15 Dec 2020 00:52:14 +0000 https://briefnews.eu/empire-spinoff-starring-taraji-p-henson-as-cookie-not-moving-forward-at-fox/

Empire‘s Cookie has crumbled, unfortunately: A planned spinoff of the hit drama with Taraji P. Henson reprising her role as Cookie is not moving forward at Fox, according to our sister site Variety.

News of the spinoff first surfaced in July, with Empire co-creator Danny Strong serving as co-showrunner on the potential series alongside Empire vets Yolanda Lawrence and Stacy Littlejohn. The series would have centered on the next chapter for Henson’s Cookie, following the Empire series finale, which aired in April and capped a six-season run on Fox. But the Cookie-centered spinoff is still being shopped to ABC and Hulu, Deadline reports. (It’s produced by 20th Television, which is now owned by Disney, under a first-look deal with Henson.)

Henson earned a Golden Globe and a Critics Choice award along with a pair of Emmy nominations for her work as fierce matriarch Loretha “Cookie” Lyon on Empire. She’s set to launch a talk show about mental health on Facebook Watch called Peace of Mind With Taraji, and also hosted last month’s American Music Awards on ABC. Her other TV credits include Person of Interest, The Division and Boston Legal.

Are you sad you won’t see the continuing adventures of Cookie? Sound off in the comments.

Mandalorian season 2: Baby Yoda in danger as first-look reveals battle against the Empire https://briefnews.eu/mandalorian-season-2-baby-yoda-in-danger-as-first-look-reveals-battle-against-the-empire/ https://briefnews.eu/mandalorian-season-2-baby-yoda-in-danger-as-first-look-reveals-battle-against-the-empire/#respond Thu, 10 Sep 2020 01:29:35 +0000 https://briefnews.eu/mandalorian-season-2-baby-yoda-in-danger-as-first-look-reveals-battle-against-the-empire/

Star Wars fans were thrilled by the franchise’s first live-action series for Disney Plus. Originally released in October 2019 in the States, The Mandalorian went on to become an international hit when it was made available overseas at the start of 2020. Now a sneak peek at season two could spell trouble for Baby Yoda.

Although the Skywalker Saga came to a rocky conclusion with last year’s Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, fans are still hyped for the return of the franchise’s first Disney+ series, The Mandalorian.

Pedro Pascal stars as the titular bounty hunter, known as Din Djarin or ‘Mando’ who bites off more than he can chew when he is hired to retrieve a priceless asset, known as the Child.

More commonly known as Baby Yoda thanks to its resemblance to Frank Oz’s creation in The Empire Strikes Back, the Child instantly became one of the most popular new additions to the Star Wars mythos.

When Mando discovers his ‘Client’ (played by Werner Herzog) intended to harvest the Child for his potent Force abilities, he goes against his word and escapes to protect the adorable green alien.

When season two is released on October 30, Mando and the Child will remain on the run, pursued by the fearless Moff Gideon (Giancarlo Esposito), revealed at the end of the first season.

As The Mandalorian takes place some years after Return of the Jedi, Gideon commands a crippled faction of the Empire after the second Death Star was destroyed by the Rebel Alliance.

Revealed exclusively to Entertainment Weekly, some brand new images from season two have teased what’s to come when the space Western returns.

The pictures confirmed the return of the show’s main cast, including Pedro Pascal once again donning the sleek grey armour of the Mandalorian creed.

Look closely, and fans should be able to spot another sighting of Baby Yoda, tucked away in a pouch at the back of the speeder.

The Child could be accompanying Djarin on the hoverbike for any number of reasons, but there is already concern the green critter could be thrown headfirst into the action in season two.

Season one of The Mandalorian already proved Baby Yoda is more than capable of handling himself, demonstrated when he uses the Force to fend off a rampaging mudhorn.

However, with Moff Gideon accompanied by fleets of stormtroopers and armed with the legendary Dark Saber, there’s no telling what hazards could befall the duo when their adventures continue.

Empire Series Finale: EP Reveals What Was Supposed to (and Still Might?) Happen in the Original Ending https://briefnews.eu/empire-series-finale-ep-reveals-what-was-supposed-to-and-still-might-happen-in-the-original-ending/ https://briefnews.eu/empire-series-finale-ep-reveals-what-was-supposed-to-and-still-might-happen-in-the-original-ending/#respond Wed, 22 Apr 2020 08:54:35 +0000 https://briefnews.eu/empire-series-finale-ep-reveals-what-was-supposed-to-and-still-might-happen-in-the-original-ending/

RELATED STORIES

Empire wrapped its six-season run on Tuesday with a final episode that carried with it a giant asterisk. Although billed as a series finale, the episode was actually an amalgam of the Fox drama’s antepenultimate and penultimate hours. The admirably assembled makeshift closer replaces the original swan song, production of which was, as you know, KO’d (or merely postponed?) by COVID-19.

The episode’s patchwork-y DNA was at times visible on screen, particularly in the overstuffed final 15 minutes that crammed in a breakup (Lucious and Yana), two major character deaths (Yana and Big Bad Damon Cross), the long-awaited premiere of the Hakeem-fronted Empire feature film, and the inevitable romantic reunion between Cookie and Lucious.

Just as noteworthy was what “Home Is on the Way” was missing, namely a resolution to the season-long flash-forward mystery involving the apparent deaths of Cookie and Lucious, via car bomb and gunshots, respectively.

According to Empire showrunner Brett Mahoney, the ill-fated 20th episode (aka the original series finale) was going to wrap up both cliffhangers, as well as bring resolution to a number of other dangling threads. The EP remains hopeful that the intended farewell will eventually be shot in order to “send the series off” properly. And if not? “I think we’ll find some creative way to get [the information] out there,” he recently told TVLine, “whether it’s by just releasing the script or finding another way to satisfy fans.”

In the meantime, fans will have to make due with the following Q&A, in which Mahoney drops hints about the OG finale while also answering our burning Qs about Tuesday’s ersatz closer.

TVLINE | We never got a resolution to the flash-forward tragedies involving Cookie and Lucious. Would that have been tied up in the original finale?
That’s what breaks my heart. In the [original] series finale all of that plays out. [We find out] who shot Lucious and who blew up Cookie’s car, and [if either one of them survived]. That [storyline’s conclusion] was a victim of COVID-19. I promise you that if we don’t get to film that episode we’ll get the [resolution] out there one way or another.

TVLINE | The fallout from Yana’s death felt rushed. Was that also due to the production halt?
Episode 18 [originally was supposed to] end with the death of Yana, which would’ve given [viewers] a week to [recover]. It would have felt less abrupt than her getting shot and then we [immediately] come back after a commercial break and we’re mourning her death. The beginning of Episode 19 would’ve [picked up] after her death and then the episode ended with the movie premiere.

TVLINE | Safe to say there was going to be a twist leading into Episode 20, the original finale?
Yes. Whenever we get to shoot 20, it will start with [the Episode 19 cliffhanger]. The [original] idea for 19 had us coming to this place where everything was good, and then [suddenly] that all gets turned upside down and they go on a journey [in 20, before ultimately] coming back to [that happy place]. But since we had shot this scene at the movie premiere, which [resembled the] spirit of the original finale, I [realized] I could build something [for the makeshift finale] with that [footage] and at least end it in the same spirt that we intended, in terms of Cookie and Lucious recognizing their love for one another, and the family coming together and realizing that the Lyons were more important than Empire.

TVLINE | We learned in a recent episode that Jamal and Kai were in the process of adopting a baby. Did they get a happy ending off screen?
There was a line that I cut out [of the episode] for time that said Jamal and Kai and the baby were happily living in London.

TVLINE | Did they have a boy or girl?
A boy.

TVLINE | Andre and Teri’s relationship appeared to be over. Would they have gotten back together in the original finale?
Teri has been through a lot with Andre so I’m not sure she can forgive him and welcome him back into her life. But I will say that Andre, after he decides to stay in New York, proves he is worthy and stable and he can be a father to his son. So the ending is that Andre will be able to raise his son and be in his life and be his father.

TVLINE | You kicked off the episode with a rousing, Cookie-centric ’70s blaxploitation homage. Was that a nod to Taraji P. Henson’s role in Proud Mary?
It wasn’t. It was [inspired by] a [2018] New York Times piece [“The Strong and Stressed Black Woman“]. We thought it tied into the story we were telling about Cookie, in terms of black women having to me superwomen, having to always be strong and not be vulnerable. They are three-dimensional people and, despite their strengths, they also have weaknesses and they also have vulnerabilities. And part of their journey is being able to show that. We were making this point in [Cookie’s] therapy session, and Michael C. Martin — who was one of the writers on the episode —  said something in the writers’ room. I don’t know if he actually brought up the Foxy Brown of it all, but I said that’s what we need to do at the top of the episode. We need a fantasy sequence with Cookie as a superhero.

TVLINE | Lastly, what is the status of the rumored Cookie spinoff?
I don’t actually know. I don’t have anything to do with any spinoff. But I would imagine [such a series] would be something people would be interested in. And I would imagine the studio and the network would want to explore that. But I don’t know where that is or what they’re doing.

Empire Boss Hints at ‘Creative’ Plan B in Event Proper Finale Never Gets Shot https://briefnews.eu/empire-boss-hints-at-creative-plan-b-in-event-proper-finale-never-gets-shot/ https://briefnews.eu/empire-boss-hints-at-creative-plan-b-in-event-proper-finale-never-gets-shot/#respond Mon, 20 Apr 2020 22:58:35 +0000 https://briefnews.eu/empire-boss-hints-at-creative-plan-b-in-event-proper-finale-never-gets-shot/

News that Empire co-creators Lee Daniels and Danny Strong hope to someday give fans a proper series finale was greeted with a healthy dose of skepticism last week. After all, Daniels made a similar assertion last summer in the wake of Star‘s abrupt cancellation, promising fans a “movie of the week to wrap things up.” Such a project has yet to come to fruition.

Ahead of Tuesday’s makeshift series finale, Empire showrunner Brett Mahoney maintains to TVLine that there is indeed “a universal want and desire” to bring closure to the Lyon family after the coronavirus crisis ends. (As we previously reported, production on the Fox drama’s sixth and final season ground to a halt last month while the show was shooting Episode 19 of its 20-episode order. Consequently, Episode 18 — airing tomorrow night— will now serve as the show’s swan song.)

“Everyone wants to send the series off [properly],” Mahoney maintains. “I can’t guarantee it will happen, but we’re hopeful. And if we don’t actually get a chance to shoot the series finale, I think we’ll find some creative way to get [the information] out there, whether it’s by just releasing the script or finding another way to satisfy fans.”

The EP acknowledges that the prospect of restarting production on Empire post-COVID-19 is not without its hurdles. “We don’t know what the costs will be in terms of keeping our sets,” he explains. “And then the question becomes who from the cast will be available at that point.”

In the meantime, Mahoney says he strived to bring a sense of resolution to the show’s six-year run by incorporating scenes from the penultimate Episode 19 into 18 (aka the ersatz finale that airs tomorrow). “The question [became], ‘Can I craft [an ending] that’s going to be satisfying based on [the footage that] what we had, which was all of Episode 18 and half of 19,” he says. “And, luckily, [there are scenes] we had shot in 19… that were reflective of the spirit that we wanted to end the series with [in the original finale].”

Empire Kills Off [Spoiler] in Last Midseason Premiere Ever https://briefnews.eu/empire-kills-off-spoiler-in-last-midseason-premiere-ever/ https://briefnews.eu/empire-kills-off-spoiler-in-last-midseason-premiere-ever/#respond Wed, 04 Mar 2020 05:38:55 +0000 https://briefnews.eu/empire-kills-off-spoiler-in-last-midseason-premiere-ever/

The following recap contains spoilers from this week’s Empire — proceed at your own peril.

White Tracy has a new alias: Dead as a Doornail Tracy.

Lucious’ dumpster fire of a baby momma’s harebrained gambit to whack Cookie backfired big time in Empire‘s midseason premiere, the first of the Fox drama’s 10 final episodes. As the crack addict was about to pull the trigger, Andre charged in, sending bullets flying every which way but loose. Amid the commotion, Cookie grabbed Lucious’ piece and shot Tracy square in the chest, killing her instantly.

A two-week time jump followed and found an emotionally fraught Cookie unpacking the violent incident with her shrink. Yes, she’s traumatized, but not about killing Tracy. The whole sordid episode reawakened in her a painful chapter from her past in which she shot and killed a man with close ties to her sister Carol. We later learn that Carol has no idea her sis was behind the murder of this beloved guy we’ve never heard of prior to this episode.

On the bright side for Cookie, Lucious finally relented and granted her the divorce she has for months been begging for.

Meanwhile, Andre — who sustained a minor flesh wound in the aforementioned Tracy-centric melee — still can’t get his dead half-brother Kingsley out of his head. If anything, “Kingsley” — incensed by his mother’s death — is more emboldened than ever to drive Andre crazy. To wit, “Kingsley” convinced Andre to brush off his doctor’s strong recommendation that he commit himself to a psychiatric facility for six years months, and later goaded him into assuring wife Teri that his hallucinations were under control.

Elsewhere in Season 6, Episode 11, titled “Can’t Truss ‘Em”:

* The arrival of the first trailer for Birth of an Empire (fka Untitled Lucious Lyon Project) brought MIA Hakeem (who plays a Young Lucious in the pic) briefly back into the fold. Curiously, Hakeem’s biggest moment in the episode — the rekindling of his romance with his now-spoken-for ex Tiana — was communicated to the audience via an awkward mix of exposition and a blink-and-you-missed it flashback.

* Lucious felt an inspirational “jolt” to chart a new post-Empire course after listening to his ex-lover Yana sing. “I think you are so much more than a songwriter,” he cooed. “You should be a recording artist yourself. I can make you a star.” After initially shooting down his pipe dream to make her the next Rhianna, Yana agreed to give music stardom a shot.

* Becky reprimanded one of her Bossy Media underlings for snorting Adderall in the office bathroom in a hilarious scene that abruptly turned dark when, once alone, she phoned her pot dealer and ordered some of the recreational euphoriant for herself. Please tell me the show is not gonna do a Becky drug addiction storyline. Not with only nine episodes left. No one wants to see that.

Grade the episode below and then hit the comments with your thoughts on 6.11.

Christmas hasn’t arrived just yet, but we’ve already received the gift that keeps on giving: television!

Though many broadcast series are currently on hiatus until 2020, the past seven days of TV still served up enough zingers and one-liners to fill another Quotes of the Week gallery. (And if you missed the 2019 dialogue that we deemed the Quotes of the Year, you can peruse that gallery right here.)

This time around, we’ve got a fumbled sports metaphor on All Rise, The Late Show’s takedown of a recent Hallmark Channel controversy, a naughty Family Feud answer from a Star Wars cast member and a recent encounter with Santa Claus on Family Guy that can only be described as disturbing. (As if you’d expect anything less from Family Guy.)

Also featured in this week’s roundup: sound bites from Live in Front of a Studio Audience, The Morning Show, The Voice, Watchmen’s season finale and more.

Check out the attached gallery — or click here for direct access — then hit the comments and tell us if we missed any of your faves!

Empire Boss Eyeing Jussie Smollett for Possible Finale Comeback: ‘It Would Be Weird to End the Show Without Him’ https://briefnews.eu/empire-boss-eyeing-jussie-smollett-for-possible-finale-comeback-it-would-be-weird-to-end-the-show-without-him/ https://briefnews.eu/empire-boss-eyeing-jussie-smollett-for-possible-finale-comeback-it-would-be-weird-to-end-the-show-without-him/#respond Tue, 17 Dec 2019 23:55:25 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/empire-boss-eyeing-jussie-smollett-for-possible-finale-comeback-it-would-be-weird-to-end-the-show-without-him/

Empire may be getting the band back together for one final encore.

Showrunner Brett Mahoney tells TVLine that discussions are underway to possibly have embattled former cast member Jussie Smollett return as Jamal before the show wraps its six-season run this spring.

“It would be weird in my mind to end this family show and this family drama of which he was such a significant part of without seeing him,” offers Mahoney, before adding, “It’s fair to say it’s being discussed, but there’s no plan as of yet to bring him back. There’s been no decision made.”

The fact that Empire is even mulling a Smollett comeback represents a bit of a turnaround from last June when series creator Lee Daniels slammed the door shut on the possibility, maintaining via Twitter, “Jussie will NOT be returning to Empire.”

Smollett, who had played Lucious’ musician son Jamal since Empire debuted in 2015, was written out of the final episodes of Season 5 following a headline-grabbing brush with the law. The actor claimed he was beaten up by two men who hurled racist and homophobic slurs at him, and then was accused of fabricating the attack and charged with making a false police report.

The charges were later dropped, but the scandal seemed to end Smollett’s run on Empire. When the show was renewed for sixth and final season last May, the network extended his contract but said there were “no plans” to bring him back. (Smollett’s final Empire episode saw Jamal get married to Kai; the show established early on in Season 6 that the newlyweds are now living full-time in London.)

Empire‘s fall finale airs tonight at 9/8c on Fox.

Brittas Empire reboot: Will there be another series of The Brittas Empire? https://briefnews.eu/brittas-empire-reboot-will-there-be-another-series-of-the-brittas-empire/ https://briefnews.eu/brittas-empire-reboot-will-there-be-another-series-of-the-brittas-empire/#respond Sun, 07 Jul 2019 03:37:58 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/brittas-empire-reboot-will-there-be-another-series-of-the-brittas-empire/

BBC sitcom The Brittas Empire may have been off-screen for over two decades, however, it was a huge hit during its run and is now firmly a classic British comedy. The Brittas Empire ran for seven series from 1991 to 1997. The sitcom was written by Andrew Norriss and Richard Fegen and followed the antics of leisure centre manager Gordon Brittas (played by Chris Barrie) and his equally incompetent staff.

Each episode saw surreal and side-splitting events occurring as Gordon and co tried to manage things at Whitbury New Town Leisure Centre.

In an exclusive interview with Express.co.uk, star Barrie shared his thoughts on a possible return for the hit BBC series.

Putting on the distinctive nasal voice of Gordon, Barrie said: “Well, I’m ready and waiting for the green light it’s going to happen.”

Before adding: “Look, I’d love to do it. We almost made it onto Comic Relief last year.”

He explained one of the producers of the charity telethon lived near him and they tried everything to get a Brittas Empire skit on the programme, but it wasn’t to be.

“Richard Egen is well open but we’re all ready and waiting. We’d love to bring it back.

“It would be very interesting to set it in the 21st Century. Keep our fingers crossed that it could still happen.”

When Barrie isn’t working, he is taking time out to enjoy life and spending time with his family.

However, these days Barrie is busy working and focusing his energies on his other big hit Red Dwarf.

He, along with his co-stars Craig Charles, Danny John-Jules and Robert Llewellyn, are getting ready to shoot Red Dwarf XIII with filming expected to get underway towards the end of the year.

UKTV channel Dave doesn’t yet have an air date for Red Dwarf XIII but the new series is could be hitting screens at some point in 2020.

Before that though, Barrie has reprised his role as the odious yet unfortunate Arnold Rimmer for a Red Dwarf-themed advert for The AA.

In the short commercial, the crew of the Red Dwarf break down on an inhospitable planet and are in need of urgent help.

While Rimmer tries to contact the breakdown services on a telephone, Lister uses his new AA app with help arriving almost instantaneously.

The advert was shot over the course of two days with Barrie explaining: “Obviously in a short space of time, it’s not like doing an episode. I think that they’re expectations will be satisfied.”

Barrie said it was a “completely different experience” to filming the TV show.

“Usually on Red Dwarf we’ve got other actors working with us,” he said.

While co-star Llewellyn added: “I think they can expect essentially a little theme, the various traits they know so well of the four characters in Red Dwarf.”

He equated the advert to an espresso shot of Red Dwarf while a typical episode of the show was more like a latte.

The AA, the UK’s most trusted breakdown provider, launches a new ad campaign featuring the cast of cult TV show Red Dwarf. No matter where you are, you can now report a breakdown and track your mechanic through the AA app. It’s the future of breakdown – today.
