A new Warframe Eidolon update is arriving today on PC – later on PS4 and Xbox One – which will make some changes to Bounties.

PC players can look forward to the launch of Operation Plague Star today, a new limited time event with special rewards.

But something Tennos might not have expected is a change to how bounties work being launched along with it.

Digital Extremes confirmed the news this week, revealing how they wanted to switch things up when it comes to Bounties and rewards.

“We are making changes to the way Bounties reward you,” the Eidolon statement explains. 

“This new system is a take on the ‘AABC’ rotation system we have in endless missions, but applied to Bounties using the Common, Uncommon, and Rare rewards. 

“Maybe you heard about this on the Devstream 100 – you probably did. Lots of people have been asking ‘WHEN’ for this, and I’m happy to say it’s coming with tomorrow’s Update on PC.

Unfortunately for console Tenno, there’s no current ETA yet on when this might arrive, only that it will be launching in the future.

Here’s how the reward for every stage of the Bounty is completed:

Second and more technical: “The tier of reward you get is determined by how many stages are in the given Bounty. The Common/Uncommon/Rare tier are signified by colour in the reward manifest Bronze/Silver/Gold.”

3 Stage Bounties:

  • First reward: Common
  • Second reward: Common or Uncommon
  • Third reward: Common, Uncommon, or Rare

4 Stage Bounties:

  • First reward: Common
  • Second reward: Common or Uncommon
  • Third reward: Common, Uncommon
  • Fourth reward: Common, Uncommon, or Rare

5 Stage Bounties:

  • First reward: Common
  • Second reward: Common or Uncommon
  • Third reward: Common, Uncommon
  • Fourth reward: Common, Uncommon, or Rare
  • Fifth reward: Common, Uncommon, or Rare

Third: “Slightly re-balanced the quantities of some of the rewards as we tested numerous Bounties with these changes. Right now this only applies to select items. 

“Plains of Eidolon specific reward quantities are untouched (i.e it could be possible to get 25 x Breath of the Eidolon in a single 5 Stage Bounty or 10  6 Cetus Wisps in a 5 Stage Bounty).”

OPERATION PLAGUE STAR:

As mentioned above, Operation Plague Star is launching today on PC, offering new rewards until November 27.

Here’s more information on what it is: “A mysterious meteorite has crashed just outside of Cetus revealing a horrific boil. The boil is growing and the Ostrons have sighted infested lifeforms emerging from it. We need to act now before they make their way to Cetus.

“Konzu has received reports that Vay Hek possesses a toxin that can destroy the boil. But Vay Hek won’t help; he sees this infested boil as a means to rid the Plains of Cetus and the Ostrons.

“We need to get ahold of the toxin and destroy the boil before it becomes unstoppable. Visit Konzu in Cetus to learn his plan for retrieving the toxin from Vay Hek.”

Plague Star Specific Bounty: Completing the series of Bounty Missions will earn you continued OPERATION STANDING to shop for all the Event Rewards! You should to speak to Konzu at Cetus to begin running the Plague Star Bounty.

The Plague Star Bounty starts with enemies in the Medium difficulty range, but you can increase the stakes. The more Bounties you complete, the more standing you earn toward something new: Operation Syndicate.

Much like the way we used a token system for the Ambulas Reborn event, we have taken that idea one step further.

It should be noted that NAKAK, the oddities vendor, represents the OPERATIONAL SUPPLY Syndicate for Operation: Plague Star.

Having already landed on PC earlier this year, the new Warframe: Plains of Eidolon expansion looks set to arrive on PS4 and Xbox One very soon.

Developers Digital Extremes have confirmed that they are now reaching the final phase of the launch program for consoles.

This could mean that a release will arrive later this week, or in the next seven days.

“Tenno, you are that much closer to taking your first steps out in the Plains of Eidolon, catching your first fish, and taking your first flight with your Sky Archwing,” a message from Digital Extremes teases. 

“The console team, in impressive speed, has sent the Plains of Eidolon update build off to cert! 

“We want to take this time to thank you all for your patience as the console team worked to bring you the best version of the Plains of Eidolon. 

“Your continued support and understanding has motivated us in ways we cannot fully explain. We can say with full confidence that this is the most ecstatic we’ve been to deliver you an update, and we can’t wait to see you explore all that it has to offer. 

“With that said, let’s get into the details! This update is a juicy one that includes everything from Hydroid Prime 21.7.1 to Plains of Eidolon 22.1.0.1! 

“Best of all it includes a host of fixes and changes (especially in regards to Cetus economy balancing), making it a wonderfully refined and well-rounded version of the initial PC release of Plains of Eidolon. “

As mentioned above, the Warframe Plains of Eidolon expansion is now in the console certification process on both Xbox One and PS4.

And while the development team have yet to confirm a launch date or time, a new update has been confirmed for this week.

“We have scheduled roughly 30 minutes of maintenance downtime for public hubs on Xbox One and PS4. 

“This includes Relays, Dojos, Iron Wake, and Maroo’s Bazaar. During this time access to these hubs may be restricted – If you are able to enter you will find that they are not populated by other players. Regular mission gameplay will not be affected by this maintenance.”

This new maintenance will happen on the following dates: 

  • PS4 is scheduled for Tuesday, November 7th at 8:30 AM ET.
  • Xbox One is scheduled for Wednesday, November 8th at 8:30 AM ET. 

This will in all likelihood not be the big Plains of Eidolon expansion but could prove to be an important step to letting players gain access.

Here’s some of what will be included in the new Warframe update:

Plains of Eidolon:

  • Partake in Incursions, random events that occur in the Plains.
  • Join the Teralyst hunt at night.
  • Travel through the Plains using Sky Archwing.
  • Spear fish to catch a variety of fish species.
  • Mine for ore and rare gems.

The Ostrons and the town of Cetus: 

  • Visit Konzu to get Bounties that increase your standing with Cetus and earn you rewards.
  • Craft your own Weapons at Hok’s Anvil in Cetus.
  • Meet The Quills and learn more about the Tenno way from this mysterious group.

New Quest: Saya’s Vigil! 

New Warframe: Gara, Manipulator of Glass! Similarly to the PC release, console players who purchase Gara, either alone or in her bundle, will receive a veiled Riven Mod to pump up their Arsenal upon completing the quest for the first time.

New Weapons: 

  • Astilla – Shoots slugs that explode on impact, dispersing lethal glass shards in all directions.
  • Volnus – This lightweight, glass hammer can tear through the toughest of foes.
  • Fusilai – This stealthy secondary pierces through flesh and armor taking down enemies unheard.
  • Argonak – A Grineer rifle that highlights enemies in red while actively zoomed in. This makes enemies easier to spot and attack, especially at long distances or at night.
  • Krohkur – With its curved, sickle-like shape, the Krohkur is a deadly and highly versatile weapon allowing the wielder to hook and slash their enemies.

Mod sets: Each set focuses on 1 of following 3 styles of combat: ability casting (Augur), gunning (Vigilante), and melee (Gladiator). Stats for these Mods increase on Rank and have an added stat bonus if equipped with Mods from the same set. 

  • Focus 2.0 – This new System changes the Skill Tree to be more combat-focused and allows you to equip your Operator with distinct Weapons and Armor. 
  • Mag Pneuma (Deluxe Skin) Collection: Harness the magnetic force around you with the new Mag Pneuma Collection. Includes the lavish Mag Pneuma Skin, Maruta Tonfa Skin, and the Vasa Syandana.

New Achievements:

  • Saya’s Vigil – Complete the Saya’s Vigil Warframe Quest
  • From on High – Kill 100 grounded enemies while in Archwing Mode
  • Forged In Fire – Craft your first Ostron weapon
  • By the Dawn’s Early Light – Survive a night on the Eidolon Plains
  • Tomb Looter – Explore all Eidolon Caves
  • Sleds of Sunshine – Slide 500 metres across the Plains of Eidolon

Warframe’s first Open Zone will allow Tenno to explore, fight, journey and fly through the open Landscapes of Planet Earth in their own time, in their own way. 

That was the big reveal during Tennocon today, confirming that the upcoming Plains of Eidolon expansion will make some big changes to the game’s core gameplay.

The new Warframe open world expansion includes a new open world landscape, populated with both familiar and never-before seen creatures, enemies, a new Warframe, a day/night cycle, and a new story told through interactive NPC characters in the city of Cetus. 

The biggest sell will be that players will be able to see foot in the Plains of the Eidolon with the freedom to explore it on their own terms. This will mean Cetus supporting up to 50 players, with players than venturing out in groups of one to four.

Although no release date was confirmed today, Digital Extremes has confirmed that the new exansion will be released in 2017.

Cetus is a makeshift basecamp for scavengers known as Ostrons who’ve made The Bleeding Tower their home, with a new Warframe and new weapons available to earn 

“We have announced big things for Warframe at TennoCon before but nothing like this. Adding Landscapes is a huge leap that we’ve been working on for some time,” said Steve Sinclair, creative director of Warframe. 

“Plains of Eidolon is our first step in adding a new kind of player freedom to the game. We wanted to give our players something new, something dramatic, and that meant taking risks and evolving the game in a fresh, new direction. 

“For veteran players, we’re always trying to give them a living, evolving game. Landscapes is a great example of how we do that. 

“If you bounced off Warframe a while ago, this is a very different feel for the game that warrants a second look. We can’t wait to see how people react to this!”

Key features in Plains of Eidolon include:

Landscapes (Open Zones): “Until now, Warframe missions have taken place in relatively closed environments. With the Plains of the Eidolon expansion, players will set foot in a vast natural landscape free to explore on their own terms.”

Meet the Inhabitants of Cetus: “Never before have Tenno encountered the faceless people whose lives they have saved, until now. Meet the Ostrons, a makeshift group of scavengers whose culture revolves around the grotesque harvesting of biomechanical tissue from long dormant Orokin Towers.”

Different Kind of Mission: “In addition to discovering and exploring, players will engage in an assortment of missions to find and assemble new Warframes and weapons, items and more. Expect to strap on Archwing for air travel and battle, and experiment with customizing and modding a Warframe like never before.”

Discover and Explore: “Plains of the Eidolon offers a sense of discovery, variety, and mystery that mixes several different environments and tones to create a deep sense of place. Experience a bristling new world in where the wind rustles across your Syandana and the age and size of giant Orokin structures ominously looms in the background. Earth will be more alive than ever before.”
