  • On Thursday, Asana — a collaboration and productivity software company started by Facebook co-founder Dustin Moskovitz — announced that it had raised a $ 50 million Series E funding round.
  • Asana is now valued at $ 1.5 billion.
  • “It’s really nice to cross over that concrete mark,” Asana CEO Dustin Moskovitz said, referring to reaching the unicorn status of companies valued over $ 1 billion.
  • 2018 has been a momentous year for Asana, as the company already raised a $ 75 million Series D in January and says it’s revenue is growing 90% year over year.
  • With the latest funding round, Asana plans to continue its international growth (first, by opening an office next week in Australia) and increase its number of employees from 400 to 600 by the end of 2019.

After more than a decade, Asana can finally call itself a unicorn.

On Thursday, Asana announced that it had raised a $ 50 million Series E funding round, putting the company at a $ 1.5 billion valuation. The funding round was led by Generation Investment Management with participation from others like Benchmark Capital and Founders Fund. In total, Asana has raised over $ 2o0 million to date.

Jets' Dustin Byfuglien poses big problem for Golden Knights https://briefnews.eu/jets-dustin-byfuglien-poses-big-problem-for-golden-knights/ https://briefnews.eu/jets-dustin-byfuglien-poses-big-problem-for-golden-knights/#respond Mon, 14 May 2018 06:00:35 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/jets-dustin-byfuglien-poses-big-problem-for-golden-knights/

Dustin Byfuglien is a big problem for Vegas.

The 6-foot-5, 260-pound Winnipeg defenceman can do it all, as the Golden Knights saw up close when he helped the Jets win Game 1 of the Western Conference finals with a goal and an assist.

"We got moving our feet right away," Byfuglien said. "And the ice opened up."

Byfuglien has a powerful shot, as he showed with a slap shot 1:05 into the Jets' 4-2 victory .

The 33-year-old former forward, who played right wing for the Chicago Blackhawks during their Stanley Cup run in 2010, can join a rush on offence in even-strength situations and plays on the power play. The NFL-sized player is nimble enough to skate fluidly and he handles the puck with soft hands. Byfuglien can crunch opponents against the boards or on the open ice with checks and kill penalties with savvy positioning.

In Game 1, he did all of that and more.

Three 1st Period goals helped propel the Winnipeg Jets to a 4-2 win over the Vegas Golden Knights in Game 1 of the Western Conference Final on Saturday night in Winnipeg. 2:06

'He's kind of one of a kind'

"You saw the Dustin Byfuglien spectrum," Jets coach Paul Maurice said. "He can shoot the puck a ton. He can make soft-hand plays and he can be as big and strong as you want out there."

Vegas centre William Karlsson was asked to compare Byfuglien with any other player in the league. And he was stumped.

"He's kind of one of a kind," Karlsson said.

If the expansion Golden Knights can't figure out a way to keep the puck away from Byfuglien and work around him offensively, their inaugural season may not last beyond this series.

Game 2 is Monday night in Winnipeg.

Post-season performer

Byfuglien leads the league's defencemen with 15 points and five multi-point games in the playoffs.

"When he is on his game, he is as good as anybody," Vegas coach Gerrard Gallant. "He's a big strong man and can play the game any way you want to play it.

"Buf is a good player, but hopefully we don't give him too many chances to load up like we did [in Game 1] and take that big shot."

The Blackhawks gave Byfuglien a shot to play in the NHL, taking a flyer on the Minnesota native in the eighth round with the No. 245 pick overall in 2003. He played his first full season in the league five years later and had 11 goals and five assists for Chicago during the 2010 playoffs.

Byfuglien didn't get to celebrate the championship for very long because the Blackhawks traded him to less than three weeks after hoisting the Cup. Chicago sent him to the Atlanta Thrashers, who became the Jets, to help manage its salary cap. He has become a three-time all-star with the franchise and a player respected enough on the blue+line to be in the running for the Norris Trophy six times.

Byfuglien, though, got off to a slow start offensively this season with a slump that seems improbable for a player with five goals in 13 playoff games this year. He began the season with a 29-game goal drought and finished with eight goals, his fewest in five seasons.

Businesslike approach

"He had a helluva year and it was masked by the fact that he didn't score a goal for a long time and didn't generate points," Maurice said. "The question was `What's wrong with Dustin Byfuglien?' And the answer was, `Absolutely nothing,' because our hockey team was winning and he was playing right."

Byfuglien has been businesslike around reporters lately, appearing to be focused on his tasks instead of showing off tricks with a cosmetic tooth he can pop in and out of his mouth with his tongue. When a reporter asked about the Atlanta hat he wore in the dressing room before Game 1, wondering if it was a nod to his season with the Thrashers, he wasn't in the mood to play along.

"The what?" he asked. "I don't even know what hat I got on."

Byfuglien also wasn't interested in comparing the Jets' run to his success with the Blackhawks.

"That was a while ago," he said.

Discussing the challenges of facing Vegas goaltender Marc-Andre Fleury also didn't interest him.

"Get it behind him," he said. "Shoot pucks and hopefully they go in."

His first shot against Fleury found the back of the net, and the blast probably pushed the netting to its limit because it was so powerful.

"That first goal was a bomb," Vegas defenceman Deryk Engelland said.

Veteran Dustin Byfuglien proves perfect home remedy for Jets https://briefnews.eu/veteran-dustin-byfuglien-proves-perfect-home-remedy-for-jets/ https://briefnews.eu/veteran-dustin-byfuglien-proves-perfect-home-remedy-for-jets/#respond Wed, 02 May 2018 05:21:24 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/veteran-dustin-byfuglien-proves-perfect-home-remedy-for-jets/ When you have the sort of firepower, determination and wild support the Winnipeg Jets have these days, you’re never out of a game.

The Jets, the best home team in hockey, found themselves down and almost out after the opening 20 minutes, but they dug in against the best road team in the NHL, the Nashville Predators, to score a 7-4 victory and a 2-1 series lead at Bell MTS Place on Tuesday.

Winnipeg looked jittery, slow and still playing with the disappointment of the 5-4 overtime loss in Nashville on Sunday. This is, after all, still a young team in terms of playoff experience.

But there were the two most experienced Stanley Cup playoff performers in centre Paul Stastny (63 games) and defenceman Dustin Byfuglien (51 games), as well as captain Blake Wheeler, the heart and soul of the Jets, leading the comeback.

Winnipeg beats Nashville 7-4 after being down 0-3 in the 1st period.1:45

By the time the second period was five minutes and 29 seconds old, Winnipeg had tied the game. They then went ahead before the intermission on Byfuglien’s second goal of the game. Stastny checked in with a goal and two assists during the scoring spree.

And if you want a head-scratcher, consider that when Byfuglien and defenceman Jacob Trouba scored 18 seconds apart to tie the game early in the second period, the goals arrived during four-on-four play with their best forward, Mark Scheifele, in the penalty box with Nashville’s Austin Watson.

The Presidents’ Trophy-winning Predators, however, were not done after the Jets went ahead late in the second period. They drew even on a screen-shot, power-play goal from Filip Forsberg at the 7:40 mark of the final period.

This set up for another brilliant finish in this second-round series that has produced a whopping 25 goals through three back-and-forth games.

But it was the Predators who self-destructed with consecutive minor penalties to Game 2 overtime hero Kevin Fiala (tripping), P.K. Subban (high sticking) and goalie Pekka Rinne (slashing) with his best impersonation of Manitoban Ron Hextall to give the Jets three power plays in a row.

Wheeler, who had a wide-open net but flipped a shot high when the Jets were behind 3-1 early in the third period, made good on the second power play with a shot from a bad angle for the game-winner.

“We just went out to win a period,” said Wheeler, when asked about what was said during the first period. “There was no question this team could come back. We just wanted to give ourselves a fighting chance.”

Wheeler added an empty-netter, as did third-line left wing Brandon Tanev, to complete the scoring and give the wonderful Jets fans their 13th straight victory at home to celebrate.

“It’s always great, it always helps our team,” Byfuglien said of the 15,321 inside the building and thousands more outside watching the game in the world’s biggest hockey block party. “It gives you a little more drive. It’s good that they are on our side.”

Dance moves

The last team to beat the Jets in Winnipeg was Nashville, with a 6-5 win on Feb. 27. This game had it all. Offence. A comeback. An unbelievable crowd. A player dancing on the ice. Yes, that’s right, big 260-pound Byfuglien did a little shimmy after his go-ahead goal with 45 seconds remaining in the second period.

“There were too many people jumping up and down in front of me,” said Jets coach Paul Maurice when asked to rate Byfuglien’s dance moves.

“What makes him unique is he can — I don’t know if takeover is the right word — but he can make an impact in the game in every single way that’s possible, other than playing goal. He can defend. He can be real physical. Nobody wants to drop the gloves with him. And then there is the offensive side with his quick hands, a perfectly placed shot and all the things he can do offensively.

“The goals now will draw the camera to him. But he went through a long stretch in the first half of the year when he was really, really good and he wasn’t scoring so there were questions about the quality of his play. But he’s built his game this year and for me, he now has both sides. He’s got the right reads and the real good defensive play.

“The more energy and the more excitement in the game he can take his game to another level.”

  • Dustin Johnson hit a drive 489 yards at the Dell Match Play event, longest drive ever recorded on the PGA Tour
  • There is no video of the now-mythical drive, so we re-enacted the shot … sort of.
  • It turns out there are two catches: DJ got some help, and the record won’t count.

Bubba Watson won the WGC – Dell Match Play event on Sunday, one of the most popular stops on the PGA Tour since it moved to Austin Country Club in 2016.

But the shot everybody keeps talking about came from Dustin Johnson two days earlier when he launched a 489-yard drive, the longest measured on the PGA Tour during the ShotLink era when they started keeping official measurements in 2003.

  • Seven women who have accused Dustin Hoffman of sexual misconduct signed an open letter thanking John Oliver for confronting him.
  • “While the questions you asked may not have led to the constructive conversation you hoped for, the fact that you asked them at all is what matters most,” they wrote in the letter.

Seven women who have accused Dustin Hoffman of sexual misconduct signed on open letter thanking John Oliver for confronting the actor over his alleged behavior.

Oliver brought up the allegations against Hoffman earlier this month at a panel discussion with the actor for the 20th anniversary of “Wag the Dog.” The exchange between Oliver and Hoffman went viral as the two went back and forth about the allegations.

A few days ago, Oliver spoke for the first time about his confrontation with Hoffman, saying, “It didn’t really go anywhere constructive, so the whole thing just made me feel sad.”

The women who have accused Hoffman have a different take.

“We want to thank you for confronting Dustin Hoffman,” the letter from the women says. “While the questions you asked may not have led to the constructive conversation you hoped for, the fact that you asked them at all is what matters most.”

Here’s the entire letter sent out from the Twitter account of Anna Graham Hunter, who was the first woman to come forward with allegations against Hoffman in a guest column in The Hollywood Reporter. In the column, she alleged that Hoffman groped and sexually harassed her on the set of the 1985 movie “Death Of A Salesman” when she was 17.

Hoffman addressed Hunter’s account specifically in his exchange with Oliver.

“First of all, it didn’t happen the way she reported,” Hoffman said to Oliver during the panel. “I still don’t know who this woman is. I never met her. If I met her, it was in concert with other people.” (Hoffman and his representatives have denied some of the other allegations against him as well.)

Here is a list of the allegations against Hoffman and his various responses.

John Oliver Presses Dustin Hoffman on Sexual Harassment Allegations https://briefnews.eu/john-oliver-presses-dustin-hoffman-on-sexual-harassment-allegations/ https://briefnews.eu/john-oliver-presses-dustin-hoffman-on-sexual-harassment-allegations/#respond Wed, 06 Dec 2017 01:32:03 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/john-oliver-presses-dustin-hoffman-on-sexual-harassment-allegations/ A seemingly innocuous anniversary film screening turned decidedly fraught at New York’s 92nd Street Y last night, as John Oliver used part of a Wag the Dog panel to press Dustin Hoffman on recent accusations of sexual misconduct – and Hoffman angrily pushed back.

Oliver was moderating the hour-long discussion for the 1997 film, with director Barry Levinson, producer Jane Rosenthal, and co-star Robert De Niro also present. According to the Washington Post, about midway through the conversation about the film – which, point of fact, begins with a powerful man accused of groping an underage woman – to broach Anna Graham Hunter’s accusation that Hoffman harassed her on a film set when she was 17, as well as Hoffman’s own recollection of groping Katharine Ross on the set of The Graduate. “This is something we’re going to have to talk about because … it’s hanging in the air,” Oliver said, and proceeded to interrogate Hoffman about the actor’s kinda-sorta apology for the former (“I have the utmost respect for women and feel terrible that anything I might have done could have put her in an uncomfortable situation. I am sorry. It is not reflective of who I am.”)

“It’s ‘not reflective of who I am’ — it’s that kind of response to this stuff that pisses me off,” Oliver told the actor.  “It is reflective of who you were. If you’ve given no evidence to show it didn’t [happen] then there was a period of time for a while when you were a creeper around women. It feels like a cop-out to say ‘it wasn’t me.’ Do you understand how that feels like a dismissal?”

In response, Hoffman basically admitted that his statement wasn’t genuine (“If you get into a dispute, it lengthens the argument”), accused Hunter of lying (“First of all, it didn’t happen the way she reported”), told Oliver that “You weren’t there” (“I’m glad,” Oliver replied), and accused the moderator of “putting me on display.” “You have indicted me,” Hoffman told the host. “That’s not innocent until proven guilty.”

As Oliver read further from Hunter’s statement, Hoffman asked, “Do you believe this stuff you read?”

“Yes,” Oliver replied. “Because there’s no point in [an accuser] lying.”

“Well, there’s a point in her not bringing it up for 40 years,” Hoffman said.

“Oh Dustin,” Oliver sighed.

An audience member captured some of the tense conversation, which the Post has published:

It’s uncomfortable to read, and even more uncomfortable to watch. But if this culture is ever going to change, more people have to be willing to raise these subjects, whatever the consequence. For his part, Oliver repeatedly apologized to the audience for “ruining” their evening, but explained, “I can’t leave certain things unaddressed. That leads to me at home later tonight hating myself, asking, ‘Why the fuck didn’t I say something?’ No one stands up to powerful men.”

Stranger Things season 2: Dustin Henderson crashes museum site – but you won't believe why https://briefnews.eu/stranger-things-season-2-dustin-henderson-crashes-museum-site-but-you-wont-believe-why/ https://briefnews.eu/stranger-things-season-2-dustin-henderson-crashes-museum-site-but-you-wont-believe-why/#respond Thu, 09 Nov 2017 16:20:43 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/stranger-things-season-2-dustin-henderson-crashes-museum-site-but-you-wont-believe-why/

In the first episode of the second season, which debuted on October 27, 2017, Dustin (played by Gaten Matarazzo) can be seen wearing a purple hoodie which featured a dinosaur image and a logo from the Science Museum of Minnesota.

According to the news release from the museum, staff thought about selling the attire after receiving several calls, emails and social media posts from fans admiring them.

The hoodie was first available to buy from the museum in the early 1980s, and the museum began reselling the purple sweatshirts and T-shirts on Tuesday morning.

The clothing range flaunted the signature ‘Brontosaurus’ and ‘thunder lizard’ slogans with images of a dinosaur.

According to KARE11, the museum’s website crashed shortly after opening sales online and fans eagerly purchased their own Dustin inspired jumper.

Even though it was back up and running again at 11am, by 4pm they had sold 10,000 items for a total haul of $ 400,000.

Costume Designer Kim Wilcox first came up with the idea for Dustin’s hoodie and its science inspired design.

According to Newsweek, Kim found the original vintage sweatshirt “online, while hunting for period inspiration”.

“I really loved the Brontosaurus for Dustin, so we bought the original. Then we made our own purple hoodie with this great dinosaur art in Gaten’s size.”

Public relations director at the Science Museum of Minnesota, Kim Ramsden, added: “For us, we’re just relishing this opportunity to be connected to the popular show, especially one that has characters that are interested in science.”

With a price range from $ 15-$ 40, another shipping order of the Dustin’s dinosaur T-shirts and hoodies will be available on Wednesday.

Profits from selling Dustin’s inspired apparel goes to the museum’s education programme, working to inspire the youth’s interest in science.

Stranger Things season 3 is expected to arrive on Netflix in 2018.

PGA Tour leaderboard LIVE: Dustin Johnson and Jason Day eye glory at WGC-HSBC Champions https://briefnews.eu/pga-tour-leaderboard-live-dustin-johnson-and-jason-day-eye-glory-at-wgc-hsbc-champions/ https://briefnews.eu/pga-tour-leaderboard-live-dustin-johnson-and-jason-day-eye-glory-at-wgc-hsbc-champions/#respond Thu, 26 Oct 2017 02:47:46 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/pga-tour-leaderboard-live-dustin-johnson-and-jason-day-eye-glory-at-wgc-hsbc-champions/

The world number one, who has four PGA Tour wins to his name this year, will compete in the first of the 2017/18 World Golf Championship events.

Johnson, the 2013 HSBC Champions winner, has lifted four of the past eight WGC events.

The American, a 16-time winner on the PGA Tour, will tee off from the 10th hole alongside defending champion Hideki Matsuyama and Spain’s Jon Rahm.

Meanwhile, shot clocking will be introduced on tour in an effort to speed up play next year.

The European Tour will debut the Shot Clock Masters in Austria next year.

And Johnson has no problem with the concept.

“I think it would be very interesting,” he said.

“You’d see a lot of guys getting penalties on our Tour. Yeah, that would be quite fun, actually.

“I’d have plenty of time but there’s a lot of guys that wouldn’t. They would be getting a penalty on every hole.”

The host was chatting to the actor and his co-star Adam Sandler about their new film The Meyerowitz Stories when the 80-year-old decided he would not answer anymore questions.

Things had already become slightly awkward before the interview came to a close as Charlie said: “I hope you don’t mind me asking, you’ve just turned 80…”

“Go ahead Charlie, take your best shot,” Dustin hit back.

A nervous Charlie continued: “All I was going to ask was, you’re going to just keep going, you’re not slowing down are you?”

Slightly stunned by the question, the star replied: “I don’t understand why that does happen because it’s one thing to go through life having a job but it’s another thing for we lucky few who don’t call it our job.

“It’s our work and I don’t know how you stop doing what is in a sense your work.”

Dustin went on to quip: “If you were going to ask something about sexual differences now that I’m 80 I could spend more time with you on that,” as he hinted he would not answer any more questions.

Charlie appeared red-faced and nervously laughing as he noted: “I’ll tell you what, breakfast television has never heard the like…”

“That’s it perfect, have a good day and enjoy your cereal,” Adam chipped in as they ended the interview.

Back in the studio, Louise Minchin and Dan Walker could not stop laughing at the awkward moment, with the former commenting: “I can’t believe it, knowing Charlie as we do, that he didn’t ask another question. For once Charlie was…”

“Maybe he did but it never made the final edit,” Dan said in defence of his co-host.

ANDY MURRAY v DUSTIN BROWN LIVE UPDATES

5.02pm: “Oh wow, that is awesome,” Tim Henman, in the commentary box, purrs.

Dustin Brown has just unleashed a 98mph backhand winner and Tim is right. That’s fantastic.

It comes to nothing, though. Brown is teeing off on return and mixing his game up with plenty of drop shots but Murray is equal to it.

That’s despite another huge forehand that comes off his racket like a missile.

Anyhow, Murray leads, 3-2.

4.50pm: Few empty seats on a baking hot Centre Courtas fans get some grub after that Johanna Konta thriller.

Murray serves first, holds and Dustin Brown does the same. It’s hard to put into words what a character this man is. He’s one of the best players on tour to watch and this should be a cracker.

And he’s a serious player, too. In 2015 he beat Rafael Nadal, remember.

Murray holds again and it’s on serve at 2-1.

4.35pm: Finally, after what feels like hours, Andy Murray is on court. Wait, it has been hours.

Centre Court fans were short-changed yesterday after both Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic were forced off early when their opponents retired through injury.

But today they’ve been treated to a thriller. After 3hr 10mins, Johanna Konta finally overcame Donna Vekic to move into round three.

She is the third Brit into round three following wins for Heather Watson and Aljaz Bedene – so can Andy make it four Brit wins for the day?

Standing in his way is Dustin Brown, the most entertaining player on the tour.

Stay with us, the pair are knocking up on court now.
