The episode focused on Princess Diana – played by Emma Corrin – and Prince Charles – portrayed by Josh O’Connor – during their tour of Australia and it featured on the show’s season 4. The couple are seen greeting the masses before a woman wearing a yellow jacket catches the eye for her uncanny resemblance to the Duchess of Cambridge.

While Kate did not make a cameo in the show, some viewers were eager to point out the coincidence.

One person wrote on Twitter: “Meta moment in S4 Ep6 of #TheCrown….while depicting Charles and Diana’s trip to Oz, one of the women reaching out to touch Diana is the spit of Kate Middleton…”

While the show has received favourable from viewers, Palace insiders have criticised the portrayal of the Royal Family.

One source told the Mail on Sunday: “This is drama and entertainment for commercial ends being made with no regard to the actual people involved who are having their lives hijacked and exploited.

“In this case, it’s dragging up things that happened during very difficult times 25 or 30 years ago without a thought for anyone’s feelings.

“That isn’t right or fair, particularly when so many of the things being depicted don’t represent the truth.”

Specifically, the portrayal of Prince Charles and his relationship with Diana allegedly sparked outrage within Palace.

Speaking to the Mail on Sunday, one Palace source said: “The new series paints the Prince and Duchess in a very unflattering light but at least at the start of reality shows like The Only Way Is Essex they admit that some scenes have been invented for entertainment.

“It is yet another example, perhaps, of how difficult it is to mix being royal with the commercial world. There are bear traps everywhere.

“I would guess that William is very angry about this latest series of The Crown. And be deeply upset on behalf of his family. As will Harry.

“It is a grotesque and deeply unfair portrayal of their father, mother and stepmother, and of the wider family, including, of course, their grandparents whom they love dearly.

“Because this series is now covering a time and events that so many people can remember, but is incredibly damaging.

The most poignant pictures will be chosen to be shown as part of an exhibition later this year, which the public can view online.

In a statement released earlier this morning, Kate explained: “We’ve all been struck by some of the incredible images we’ve seen which have given us an insight into the experiences and stories of people across the country.

“Some desperately sad images showing the human tragedy of this pandemic and other uplifting pictures showing people coming together to support those more vulnerable.

“’Hold Still’ aims to capture a portrait of the nation, the spirit of the nation, what everyone is going through at this time. Photographs reflecting resilience, bravery, kindness – all those things that people are experiencing.”

This Morning airs weekdays on ITV at 10am.

Meghan Markle outrage: Duchess defended over ‘Meghan blame’ – ‘Taking it out of context!’ https://briefnews.eu/meghan-markle-outrage-duchess-defended-over-meghan-blame-taking-it-out-of-context/ https://briefnews.eu/meghan-markle-outrage-duchess-defended-over-meghan-blame-taking-it-out-of-context/#respond Mon, 24 Feb 2020 09:33:02 +0000 https://briefnews.eu/meghan-markle-outrage-duchess-defended-over-meghan-blame-taking-it-out-of-context/

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry last week issued a lengthy statement in which they outlined the new system they will adopt once they quit the Royal Family, confirming they will not be making use of the Sussex Royal brand after their departure. Royal biographer Tom Bower accused the Duchess of Sussex of infusing the statement with “spiteful fury” aimed at the Queen over the brand and of being “rude” to Her Majesty. But Good Morning Britain contributor Afua Adom hit back at the biographer accusing his of taking the statement “out of context” and contributing to a campaign of “Meghan bashing.”

Ms Adom said: “I think what is spiteful in this instance is the way this whole statement has been interpreted.

“No other part of the statement has been talked about where Harry talked about the work he is going to continue doing on the armed services and the Invictus Games.

“Nobody is talking about the fact they said they want to remain working with the Royal Family, with the Queen but they are not going to do that.

“It would be spiteful if they said they are going to use the term royal anyway – it was a statement, it was very, very factual. There was no emotion in there.”

She added: “People are taking things that they say out of context, blaming solely on Meghan as per usual as people have continuously done over this whole thing, assuming it’s all Meghan as if Harry is weak-willed, assuming she’s somehow ruling him and all-powerful.

“On Friday, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex confirmed they will not be using the Sussex Royal brand while remarking neither the Queen nor other members of the Royal Family have exclusive rights to use the term “royal.”

The statement read: “While there is not any jurisdiction by The Monarchy or Cabinet Office over the use of the word ‘Royal’ overseas, The Duke and Duchess of Sussex do not intend to use ‘Sussex Royal’ or any iteration of the word ‘Royal’ in any territory (either within the UK or otherwise) when the transition occurs Spring 2020.”

The Duke and Duchess have spent the past month living in Canada with their son Archie. Meghan and Harry are expected to settle down in the Commonwealth country for the time being but sources close to the royals suggested they have also been seeking a house in Los Angeles.

The couple have been spotted crossing the border into the US to attend a private JP Morgan conference in Miami earlier this month, during which Prince Harry delivered a speech.

They later travelled to Meghan’s native California to hold meetings with officials at Stanford University’s Palo Alto campus over their plans for their future charitable endeavours.

’Damaging the royal brand’ Carole Malone attacks Duke and Duchess of Sussex https://briefnews.eu/damaging-the-royal-brand-carole-malone-attacks-duke-and-duchess-of-sussex/ https://briefnews.eu/damaging-the-royal-brand-carole-malone-attacks-duke-and-duchess-of-sussex/#respond Wed, 22 Jan 2020 12:33:00 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/damaging-the-royal-brand-carole-malone-attacks-duke-and-duchess-of-sussex/

Today’s edition of Jeremy Vine saw discussion surrounding the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s decision to step back as senior royals and become financially independent become incredibly heated. Carole explained she felt Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s decision was “damaging” to the royal brand.

Jeremy commented: “There are certain things that are not royal but celebrity.”

“This does nothing but improve and sustain the royal brand,” Pat Kane commented.

But Carole did not agree as she cut in: “It really doesn’t. It does the opposite.”

“They announced their change of status on Instagram,” Pat continued.

The heated topic comes just days after one caller into the show explained they felt the Queen had taken “too much” from Harry.

Prince Harry spoke at a charity evening for Sentebale in London on Sunday night saying there was “really no other option” but to step back.

Calling into the Channel 5 panel show on Monday morning, Deborah from Southampton said she was “incandescent with rage” over how Meghan and Harry had been treated.

“Yeah, you know he lost his mum, he served his country in Afghanistan and elsewhere,” she began.

“He was loyal to the monarchy and all he wanted to do was look after his family.

“And, that’s been taken away, so much have been taken away from him.

“I’ve always prided myself on being a royalist but quite frankly at this point, shame on them.”

She added: “I think everyone bullied him.”

Jeremy Vine on 5 airs weekdays on Channel 5 at 9.15am.

Jeremy Vine shocked as guest slams ‘perfect’ Kate Middleton in heated Duchess debate  https://briefnews.eu/jeremy-vine-shocked-as-guest-slams-perfect-kate-middleton-in-heated-duchess-debate/ https://briefnews.eu/jeremy-vine-shocked-as-guest-slams-perfect-kate-middleton-in-heated-duchess-debate/#respond Fri, 06 Sep 2019 11:35:23 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/jeremy-vine-shocked-as-guest-slams-perfect-kate-middleton-in-heated-duchess-debate/

Jeremy Vine returned to the television screens this morning with the final show of the week and one topic that was being hotly debated was the royal family.

Joining Jeremy on the panel today was Gogglebox legend Dom Parker, journalist Nina Mishcov as well as Brexit Party MEP Dr David Bull.

During the show, Jeremy spoke about the stories that were dominating headlines, and it wasn’t long before the guests were comparing the coverage of The Duchess of Cambridge with the Duchess of Sussex and how Kate was being perceived as “perfect”.

It comes after The Cambridges put on a united front and took Prince George and Princess Charlotte to school yesterday.

Jeremy said: “Also some pictures of Charlotte going to school. They’re getting much better publicity, William and Kate and it’s George and Charlotte and it’s Charlotte’s first day and we can just mention that, so that’s all nice.”

Eager to discuss it further, Nina interrupted: “You say better publicity and that’s not a coincidence.”

“I just wonder whether there is something going on,” the host added.

“Absolutely, absolutely,” Nina replied. “Kate is being lorded as this perfect woman, ‘look at her hair, look at dress, she’s showing the children off to us.’

“’Nasty Meghan, she’s an American film star, she doesn’t know how to play the game, she doesn’t know her place,’” the journalist remarked, mocking reports.

It comes after the guests discussed the suggestion that Prince Harry, Meghan and Archie would not spending Christmas at Balmoral this year.

This would make it the second year running for the Sussex’s to not spend the festive season with the Queen and according to the panel, the decision was made due to Meghan’s beliefs towards game hunting.

Dominic was first to comment and he said: “Rather disappointing I think on the part of Meghan and Harry for the second year running they’ve snubbed the Queen’s invitation to go to Balmoral.

“Now, I’d love to go to Balmoral. Why you would want to turn it down? Well apparently it’s because young Archie is too young.”

“David what’s your suspicions?” Jeremy interjected and asked his guest.

“I was going to say I think there’s some sort of rift going on isn’t there, I know Meghan is very keen to go back to the US. There is obviously something more going on. I think Nina knows far more than she is saying,” David explained.

Jeremy added his own opinion: “There is a suspicion, and I would take a side in this in a way, I think if she’s uncomfortable with grouse shooting at all that.

“She doesn’t like the sound of gunshots you know, she’s American, got all that connection. So she just thinks ‘I’d rather not go.”

“If you’re not a hunting, shooting person then Scotland, and I was born in Scotland, with its midges and the royal family the way they are, and I’ve read things about how dreadful the Christmas is, why would you want to go?” Nina remarked.

“I’m reading a different story that says Harry hasn’t’ been there recently [since he was a child] it’s not just Meghan, this is being blamed on Meghan,” she added.

“As always we don’t quite know with Harry and Meghan. Archie does travel because he’s been to Ibiza!” Jeremy cheekily remarked in response to the Duke and Duchess of Sussex taking a private jet to the party island earlier this summer.

Jeremy Vine airs weekday mornings at 9.30am on Channel 5.

Kate Middleton: Duchess takes THIS favourite item with her when she travels https://briefnews.eu/kate-middleton-duchess-takes-this-favourite-item-with-her-when-she-travels/ https://briefnews.eu/kate-middleton-duchess-takes-this-favourite-item-with-her-when-she-travels/#respond Wed, 09 Jan 2019 19:24:43 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/kate-middleton-duchess-takes-this-favourite-item-with-her-when-she-travels/

Kate Middleton is well known for looking impeccably stylish on every public outing. No matter where she is in the world on royal tours, the Duchess of Cambridge attracts much attention for her chic look. As any traveller knows, what one wears while abroad can make or break a day out. Prince William’s wife is often seen in high heels or wedges at formal events but she also packs a practical option.

On multiple occasions – in countries across the globe – thrifty Kate has worn a pair of trusty boat shoes.

The pair of Sebago taupe suede and white Bala slip-on loafers have been frequently spotted on the Duchess’s feet.

She wore them sailing in Auckland Harbour in New Zealand, on safari at Kaziranga National Park in India and to row dragon boats on Dalvay Lake in Canada.

The 100 per cent leather shoes feature a latex foam cushion in the footbed and claim not to “compromise style for comfort.”

According to manufacturer Sebago, the loafers are “welcome footwear for lunch, errands, and just dashing around. A traction-ready outsole keeps things steady on- and offshore.”

Given Kate’s busy schedule, these versatile shoes – which can match nearly any outfit – are clearly very useful.

Kate Middleton – and her sister-in-law Meghan Markle – tend to follow a specific fashion rule when they go abroad.

They both choose to wear foreign designers from the country they are travelling to as a nod to their culture.

For instance, when Kate went to India in 2017, she wore a bohemian dress by Indian designer Anita Dongre which prompted the website to crash as many flocked to buy it.

Kate also went for Amrapali Jewels earrings during an official dinner in the country, which was a jewellery brand founded in Jaipur.

Meghan Markle has also chosen to do the same in a way to support local artists and designers.

She chose Scottish brand Strathberry for her bag and wore a tartan coat for her visit to Edinburgh in 2018, which prompted the bag seller not only to sell out but to launch a bag in her name.

An expert has revealed some of the other things Kate Middleton would have to hand when she travels.

According to Marcia Moody’s 2013 novel, ‘Kate: A Biography’, the Duchess carried some beauty items that many women often choose to have with them when she when to Canada in 2016.

She explained she had a “compact mirror, blotting paper, a handkerchief and lip balm.” While she would not use them in public, they are useful to have in private.

Blotting paper can remove oil and shine, something important when having photographs taken by the paparazzi.

Lip balm and a compact mirror would be useful to keep herself looking neat and tidy.

Meghan Markle: Duchess always makes sure to do THIS when she travels https://briefnews.eu/meghan-markle-duchess-always-makes-sure-to-do-this-when-she-travels/ https://briefnews.eu/meghan-markle-duchess-always-makes-sure-to-do-this-when-she-travels/#respond Wed, 05 Dec 2018 19:30:32 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/meghan-markle-duchess-always-makes-sure-to-do-this-when-she-travels/

Meghan Markle, married to Prince Harry, 34, has travelled all over the world in her lifetime. Both as an erstwhile actress and a current member of the royal family, the Duchess of Sussex is well used to travelling for work. Meghan has picked up numerous helpful travel hacks to beat the various problems regularly flying long distances can cause, from sickness to jet lag. The mother-to-be is particularly keen to boost gut health and takes precautions to stay healthy when on a plane.

Meghan shared her words of wisdom in a blog post on her now-defunct website, The Tig.

One of her top pieces of advice is to ensure you drink plenty of water when flying.

“Hydrate like you’re dying of thirst – because even if you’re not, for your body – the thirst is real,” Meghan wrote on the site.

Hydration is particularly important when travelling by plane due to the lack of humidity.

Cabins on commercial airliners are kept at a humidity level of 20 per cent, revealed Teletext research.

This is five per cent lower than the relative humidity of the Sahara desert, potentially leading to dehydration-related health issues such as headaches and sore throats.

The Aerospace Medical Association advises passengers to drink at least one cup (250ml) of water per hour while flying.

A study conducted by Teletext holidays has found that the majority of British travellers are drinking far less than the recommended amount of water during long haul-flights, increasing their risk of health problems during and after their flight.

Meghan Markle will also always make sure she brings a high-strain probiotic to help with gut health, she revealed on the Tig.

“This dynamic duo of probiotics and agua will keep your gut health in check and honestly stave off jet lag if you’re globetrotting on your travels,” she wrote.

This is far from the Duchess’s only travel tip. One of her hacks involves bringing one item in particular as it’s both cosy and will help you feel at home.

Meghan explained she will always take a well—worn scarf with her on trips.

She revealed on The Tig, that it is particularly helpful for making her feel snug.

There’s also the advantage that it can easily be thrown into a bag, making it a convenient comforter.

“This has become invaluable to me when catching some Zzzzzs on a flight, or feeling swaddled in a hotel room,” Meghan wrote on the website.

“Throw it in your purse or backpack, and no matter how far you travel, you will always feel comforted both on and off the plane with something that feels and smells like home.”

Meghan also revealed on The Tig that there’s a great way to beat jet lag. The key is to follow the meal times of the country you’re staying in rather than matching what you’d do at home.

Kate Middleton: Duchess of Cambridge had this very embarrassing moment on royal tour https://briefnews.eu/kate-middleton-duchess-of-cambridge-had-this-very-embarrassing-moment-on-royal-tour/ https://briefnews.eu/kate-middleton-duchess-of-cambridge-had-this-very-embarrassing-moment-on-royal-tour/#respond Tue, 20 Nov 2018 14:42:53 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/kate-middleton-duchess-of-cambridge-had-this-very-embarrassing-moment-on-royal-tour/

Kate Middleton is famous for her very classy style no matter what event she is attending.

Even when visiting very hot countries on royal tours with Prince William she maintains her chic look.

However, during a visit to India with her husband in 2016, she suffered an unfortunate fashion mishap.

The incident occurred when the royal couple were visiting India Gate, the country’s national war memorial in the capital New Delhi.

Kate’s Emilia Wickstead dress was caught by a strong gust of wind leading to a near-miss Marilyn Monroe moment.

The white dress billowed perilously around her upper thighs as the Duchess struggled to hold the gown down.

Impressively, Kate managed to retain her composure throughout the event despite battling the wind.

Pictures show the now-mother-of-three elegantly handling the situation as they approached the memorial and laid wreaths for India’s First World War soldiers.

Thankfully she managed to protect her modesty throughout the occasion.

This is far from the first time Kate’s penchant for light fabrics has caught her out.

In 2011, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge visited Canada for their first trip as a married couple, visiting Ontario, Quebec and Alberta.

However, when Kate was exiting the one at Calgary Airport, the wind caught the Duchess by surprise.

Her dress then blew up, exposing underneath as the skirt blew up to her waist.

She quickly caught the hem of the skirt and pushed it down to spare her blushes.

This problem is not rare for the royal family and the Queen has come up with an inventive way to tackle this issue herself.

Telegraph reporter Gordon Rayner, who has attended 20 royal tours, revealed that all of the Queen’s skirted are weighted.

These weights will serve to keep her skirts and dresses staying down, no matter what the weather.

“All the Queen’s skirts are weighted to avoid them blowing up as she gets off aeroplanes,” wrote Rayner in the Telegraph.

Stewart Parvin, who designed dresses for the Queen, told the MailOnline in 2012: “Sometimes if she is wearing a lightweight chiffon skirt I will sew in a smaller lead weight the size of a pea or even a length of chain.”

Senior dresser Angela Kelly is in charge of the Queen’s outfits and plans months in advance what Her Majesty will wear on royal tours.

Kelly will make sure that the planned outfits won’t clash with the backdrops and even travels to the destination to check.

Camilla Duchess of Cornwall’s secret trip with Meghan and Harry to this unusual location https://briefnews.eu/camilla-duchess-of-cornwalls-secret-trip-with-meghan-and-harry-to-this-unusual-location/ https://briefnews.eu/camilla-duchess-of-cornwalls-secret-trip-with-meghan-and-harry-to-this-unusual-location/#respond Sat, 03 Nov 2018 23:57:25 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/camilla-duchess-of-cornwalls-secret-trip-with-meghan-and-harry-to-this-unusual-location/

Camilla Duchess of Cornwall, 71, and Prince Charles, 69, have formed a strong friendship with Meghan Markle, 37, since she joined the Royal Family.

Following her wedding to Prince Harry, 34, she joined the older couple for a number of official events together.

The newlyweds, while their honeymoon location remains unknown, also joined them for a secret holiday.

In July, the four royals headed to Scotland to stay at Castle of Mey in Caithness, Scotland.

A source told Bazaar.com: “The visit happened the day after their visit to the polo. They stayed for five days and it was Prince Charles hosting them.

“During the days they took long hikes along the coast (which looks out over John o’ Groats).”

The trip followed a number of remarks from Meghan’s family such as her father and sister regarding their relationship.

“With all that has been going on with Meghan’s family, they wanted to get them out of the city and to the coast of Scotland,” a source told US Weekly.

It is thought that Meghan and Harry spent time on the grounds away from the public eye and came back to London feeling “restored”.

Castle of Mey entered the Royal Family when the Queen Mother bought the castle in 1952.

It was built between 1566 and 1572 and was owned by the Fourth Earl of Caithness, George Sinclair.

Previously called Barrogill castle, the property was restored and Prince Charles now visits at least once a year when it is closed to the public.

However it isn’t Prince Charles and Camilla’s favourite holiday location; the pair honeymooned at Birkhall, just eight miles from Balmoral.

They also spent their first wedding anniversary and tenth wedding anniversary there as well.

Other Royal Family members opted to stay in the UK for their honeymoon.

Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip famously chose to stay in Hampshire at Broadlands House, before heading to Birkhall Lodge at Balmoral.

However, the younger royals opted for much more glamorous honeymoon locations.

Kate Middleton and Prince William headed to Seychelles to a private island following their wedding in 2010, while Zara and Mike Tindall headed to Cyprus.

The location of Meghan and Harry’s honeymoon has not been revealed with rumours of Namibia being the most popular.

Meghan Markle: The Duchess does this one thing to help with jet lag when travelling https://briefnews.eu/meghan-markle-the-duchess-does-this-one-thing-to-help-with-jet-lag-when-travelling/ https://briefnews.eu/meghan-markle-the-duchess-does-this-one-thing-to-help-with-jet-lag-when-travelling/#respond Fri, 19 Oct 2018 14:54:30 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/meghan-markle-the-duchess-does-this-one-thing-to-help-with-jet-lag-when-travelling/

Meghan Markle married Prince Harry in May this year and are now on their first royal tour together.

The married couple – who are expecting their first child – are currently in Australia before heading to Fiji, Tonga, and New Zealand.

Due to the huge time difference between the UK and Australia jet lag can be a serious problem.

However, the Duchess has now revealed her top trick to beating jet lag while travelling.

Meghan told a local while visiting Bondi Beach with Harry that she practices yoga to help with the jet lag.

She revealed that she gets up at 4.30am for a yoga session to give her the energy she needs for the day.

“Meghan told me that pregnancy was like having jet lag,” local Charlotte Connell, 35, said, as reported by Sky News.

“She said she was up at 4:30am this morning doing yoga in her room as she couldn’t sleep.”

The former actress has long been a devotee of yoga and began practising when she was seven thanks to her mother being a yoga teacher.

She previously told previously told Best Health Magazine in 2015 that “yoga is my thing.”

“I was very resistant as a kid,” Meghan told the magazine. “But [my mom] said, ‘Flower, you will find your practice – just give it time.’ In college, I started doing it more regularly.”

She added: “I used to run all the time, but I typically get picked up for work [on Suits] at 4:15 in the morning on a Monday, so there isn’t much time for jogging and I would rather have that extra hour of sleep. Now, I change it up [and] I’ll do yoga [instead].”

British Airways offer jet lag advice and recommends “adjusting your exercise and main meal times to your new time zone [to] help synchronise your body clock sooner.”

The airline’s website also offers a calculator to help travellers work out when they should best seek and avoid light.

If you normally wake up at 7am and are travelling to Australia, BA advises seeking light between 12pm and 2.30pm on day one and avoiding light between 2.30pm and 5pm.

On day two, you should seek light between 11pm and 1.30am and avoid light between 1.30am and 4am.

“When it comes to seeking light, any kind of light will do. Daylight is best, but if it’s not available, simply switching on a bedroom light is sufficient to help you minimise the effects of jet lag,” said BA.

“Avoiding light can be achieved by drawing the blinds or curtains in the room you are in, or wearing an eye mask. If there’s nothing else you can do, then simply wearing dark glasses will help.”

Yoga isn’t Meghan’s only travel hack. The Duchess also recommends keeping dryer sheets to hand when packing for holidays.

She advises layering the sheets in between all clothes when assembling a suitcase.

“Your clothes will smell fresh when you arrive — and especially when you return home!” she wrote on her now-defunct lifestyle site The Tig.
