A military airbase in Syria’s south, known as T-4, came under attack late on Sunday, state media reported, attributing the strikes to Israel, which did not comment on the incident.  Several missiles have been intercepted by the anti-air defenses of the T-4 base, which is located in Homs countryside, and one attacking aircraft was hit as well, according to reports. There was no information on potential damage and casualties immediately available. Israel was previously blamed by Russia, Iran and Syria for attacking the T-4 airbase back in April. The strike killed and injured several Syrian servicemen and Iranian advisers at the compound, and it also inflicted damage to the airfield structures.

Federer was pushed all the way by the fourth-seeded Kyrgios on Saturday, who fired down 23 aces in another battling performance at the German grasscourt tournament.

Federer, 36, will now overtake Spain’s Rafael Nadal when the new ATP rankings are released on Monday.

Two aces from the 23-year-old forced a first set tiebreak and he quickly built a 3-1 lead after outlasting Federer in a rally.

From that point, Kyrgios ran away with the first set after 42 minutes, meaning the 20-time grand slam champion had a tall order to turn the match in his favour.

However, a double fault from Kyrgios on Federer’s first break point of the second set offered the top seed a way back at 2-1, which Federer extended to a 4-2 lead on serve.

Kyrgios netted a return to concede a double break at 5-2 before Federer completed half his task by taking the match into a third and decisive set. In a mirror image of the first set, the two players were locked on serve until they were separated by an ultimate tie-breaker.

Kyrgios grabbed a fast 2-0 lead after unleashing a flying forehand pass on the stretch but Federer rallied back to move 5-4 ahead before a flicked effort at the net confirmed his place in the final 6-7 (2-7) 6-2 7-6 (7-5). “I’m very relieved because I knew it was a tough match against Nick,” said Federer.

“We’ve played so many breakers and it could have gone either way.” Federer now goes through to Sunday’s final where he will aim for a 98th career title against Canada’s Milos Raonic, who won his last title at the 2016 Brisbane International.

Raonic’s serve proved the decisive factor yet again as he released 19 aces during his match with defending champion Lucas Pouille earlier on Saturday and he is yet to drop a set in Germany.

“I tried to make it difficult and I don’t want any day to be easy for anybody,” said Raonic.

“I’m happy I have a chance to come back and play some more good tennis.” Raonic grabbed the opening break of the game with a running forehand down the line before a quick serve and volley tactic sealed the first set advantage. Frenchman Pouille, 24, kept Raonic at bay on serve, including an enthralling 12-minute trade-off at 3-3, until the pair entered an inevitable second set tie- break.

Raonic edged the baseline and after challenging the original out call had the decision overturned to open up a 3-1 gap in the tie-breaker. That gap proved to be the winning margin as another ruthless serve and volley concluded the contest in one hour and 33 minutes.

Going into Sunday’s final, Federer has a 10-3 winning record against Raonic, 27, and Federer triumphed in their last meeting at the quarter-final stage of last year’s Wimbledon.

“I look up to Federer but I have to come out tomorrow and play my best,” Raonic said.

Ontario’s Hollie Duncan advanced to the championship pool at the Scotties Tournament of Hearts with an 11-8 win over Newfoundland’s Stacie Curtis in Thursday’s tiebreaker game.

Ontario scored three in the ninth end and a deuce in the 10th. Duncan sealed the win when Curtis was unable to draw her last rock onto the button while trailing 9-8.

Duncan said it was an emotional match.

“It was not my best game,” said Duncan, who’s competing in her first Scotties. “I stringed together just enough to pull it out. My team played really well. I had their support that game which was huge.”

Ontario’s Karen Sagle shot 85 per cent to lead her team while Duncan struggled at 64 per cent. Erica Trickett led Newfoundland with 90 per cent shooting.

The final end looked good for Curtis, who was trying to score a deuce by drawing her rock to the button with the help of a bump. That didn’t happen when the rock didn’t have enough weight.

Duncan said it was good for them thanks to two guards and they knew as long as they were still there they had a chance for a steal.

“The reds were piling up a bit,” Duncan said with a laugh.

‘We get to keep playing and that’s a great feeling’

Ontario had the mentality going into the end for a force or steal depending on how things looked. They ended up going hard for the steal.

“We get to keep playing and that’s a great feeling,” said Duncan, who will play wild-card Kerri Einarson later Thursday.

Einarson finished the first round-robin portion of the tournament with a 6-1 record.

Curtis called it a roller coaster week following her fourth straight loss. Newfoundland will look to win Friday morning’s seeding position game.

Curtis said it wasn’t difficult going through a game of changing scores.

“We are used to back and forth games. They are a great team and I didn’t really expect anything else, maybe a few less points here and there,” said Curtis, of St. John’s. “I expected a back and forth game.”

Curtis was disappointed with the finish.

“We didn’t play well enough to get in and that’s kind of the end of it,” she said.

Newfoundland led 1-0 after the first end, then grabbed a 4-2 lead after the third with a triple. The lead changes continued.

In other afternoon play, B.C.’s Kesa Van Osch (4-3) faces Manitoba’s Jennifer Jones (5-2), Team Canada’s Michelle Englot (5-2) goes up against Nova Scotia’s Mary-Anne Arsenault (5-2) and Alberta’s Casey Scheidegger (6-1) plays Northern Ontario’s Tracy Fleury (5-2).

Two Australians were in action for the Milwaukee Bucks in their 110-91 loss to the Oklahoma City Thunder. Thon Maker earned another start, posting eight points and one rebounds in the loss.

Matthew Dellavedova finished with seven points and three assists off the bench.

In the Los Angeles Lakers’ 113-93 win over the Detroit Pistons, Andrew Bogut came off the bench for four points and four rebounds, in just eight minutes of action.

SACRAMENTO KINGS 83 — INDIANA PACERS 101

Bojan Bogdanovic scored 17 points to lead a balanced Indiana offence and help the Pacers to a rout of the Kings.

The Pacers (4-3) scored the first nine points and built a 55-30 lead at the half.

Indiana second-year forward Domantas Sabonis, coming off a personal-best 22 points and 12 rebounds on Sunday, had a double-double in the first half with 10 points and 12 rebounds. He finished with a career-high 16 rebounds in addition to 12 points and five assists.

Rookie guard De’Aaron Fox led the Kings (1-6) off the bench with 18 points.

OKLAHOMA CITY THUNDER 110 — MILWAUKEE BUCKS 91

Paul George scored 20 points, and the Oklahoma City Thunder dominated the paint during a 16-0 run to take control early in a 110-91 win over the Milwaukee Bucks on Tuesday night.

Russell Westbrook had 12 points, 10 rebounds and nine assists, while Carmelo Anthony scored eight of his 17 points in the pivotal first quarter. Oklahoma City went from down four to a 20-8 lead on George’s jumper with 4:16 left in the first. It was essentially over from there, especially with the way Westbrook kept finding driving lanes.

The reigning MVP dished off to Steven Adams in the paint when he wasn’t taking it to the hoop himself. Adams finished with 14 points and 11 rebounds. Jerami Grant added 17 points off the bench for the Thunder.

Milwaukee’s Giannis Antetokounmpo had 28 points on 9-of-14 shooting. But the NBA’s scoring leader spent much of the first quarter on the bench with two fouls, and the Bucks struggled from the 3-point line, opening 1 of 14.

PHOENIX SUNS 122 — BROOKLYN NETS 114

Devin Booker scored 32 points, Mike James added 24 and the Suns rallied in the fourth quarter to beat the Nets.

T.J. Warren scored 14 of his 20 points during the final period for the Suns, who squandered an 18-point lead in the third quarter when Brooklyn went on a 17-0 run. Phoenix seemed out of it after Ronda Hollis-Jefferson’s basket gave Brooklyn a 106-98 lead with 6:35 left in the fourth.

But the Suns, who lost a tough one at Portland on Saturday, quickly answered with a 24-8 run for their first win on their five-game road trip. D’Angelo Russell scored 33 points and Hollis-Jefferson had 21 for the Nets, who’ve lost three straight after beating the Cleveland Cavaliers last Wednesday at home.

Warren and James combined on a 7-0 run that closed the lead to 106-101 with 6:15, forcing the Nets to call a timeout.

After a miss by the Nets, Warren tipped in Booker’s failed layup to initiate a 9-0 run capped by Dragan Bender’s 3-pointer that gave the Suns a 116-108 lead with 2:03 left in the game.

DETROIT PISTONS 93 — LOS ANGELES LAKERS 113

Julius Randle scored 17 points, Lonzo Ball added 13 and the Los Angeles Lakers beat the Detroit Pistons 113-93 on Tuesday night.

Larry Nance Jr. had 14 points and 12 rebounds for his third double-double for the Lakers, who had lost the previous three games against the Pistons. Brandon Ingram and Kentavious Caldwell-Pope each had 13 points.

Tobias Harris and Reggie Jackson each had 18 points for the Pistons, who were unable to sweep their three-game California road trip. Andre Drummond had 10 points and 12 rebounds.

Pistons head coach Stan Van Gundy was unsure about how his team might handle the adulation associated with a surprising 5-2 start, and those concerns proved to be well-founded as the Lakers took a 58-45 halftime lead when Brook Lopez hit a 3-pointer as the buzzer expired.

Rookie Kyle Kuzma had 10 points off the bench in the second quarter, making 4 of 5 shots and knocking down both of his 3-pointers as the Lakers pushed their lead to as much as 14.

But referee Russell Mora did not give it as a disqualification and Davis remained unbeaten.

Davis did not impress the crowd throughout with his showboating not going down well in the T-Mobile Arena.

The Baltimore boxer had already been stripped of his IBF super-featherweight title after he failed to make weight for the bout.

Davis walked to the ring in bizarre attire that included a huge hood and then his shorts had blue fur down the side.

He was the heavy betting favourite for the clash and expected to cruise past the Costa Rican.

Davis showboated in the fourth round by putting his hands behind his back but he took three clean shots.

The fighter – tipped to be boxing’s next big star – then got dragged into a hard fight.

Davis lashed in body shots in the eighth round but then put him over with a shot to the back of the head.

He then hit him on ground which could have brought about a disqualification but Davis got away with it.

The crowd took it out on him as they booed his interview in the ring and again when the finish was replayed on the big screen.

Canada’s Eugenie Bouchard defeated American Lauren Davis 6-1, 6-3 in first-round play Monday at the Connecticut Open.

Bouchard, the world No. 74 from Westmount, Que., will play top-seeded Agnieszka Radwanska of Poland in the round of 16 at the WTA Tour Premier event.

Radwanska had a first-round bye.

In doubles play, Ottawa’s Gabriela Dabrowski and Yifan Xu of China posted a 6-3, 6-7 (14), 10-3 win over Andreja Klepac of the Czech Republic and Maria Jose Martinez Sanchez of Spain.

The $ 710,900 US tournament is a warmup for the upcoming U.S. Open.
