Despite a virtue-signaling ad campaign featuring anthem-kneeling NFL quarterback Colin Kaepernick, sportswear giant Nike donates more than three times as much money to Republicans as it does to Democrats.

Nike’s employees and the company’s own Political Action Committee gave $ 424,000 to Republicans and only $ 122,000 to Democrats this election cycle, according to the nonpartisan Center for Responsive Politics. Nike’s contribution to the GOP tops even that of rival brand New Balance, a company whose CEO has been vocal and unapologetic about his support for President Donald Trump.

While Nike has donated more to Democrats in previous election cycles, the company has donated almost $ 1.5 million to Republicans over the last eight years, compared to just under $ 1 million to Democrats. While Adidas and Under Armor also make political donations, and favor Democrats, Nike’s spend leaves them in the dust.

Nike’s latest ad campaign, which features a solemn-faced Kaepernick, along with the text “Believe in something, even if it means risking everything,” launched just over a week ago, and placed the sportswear company firmly on the ‘woke’ side of the American cultural and political divide.

Conservatives and Trump supporters called for a boycott, and some right-wing Nike owners even filmed themselves burning their beloved shoes in response. The company’s shares dropped faster than Kaepernick after hearing “Oh say can you see,” and President Trump weighed in, tweeting “What was Nike thinking?”

However, the PR gamble paid off. The Kaepernick ad has invaded every corner of the internet, and has been memed to death by both the right and the left. Nike’s shares first dropped, then bounced back past their pre-woke levels.

“Nike’s core customer wants them to take a stand on social issues,” advertising analyst Matt Powell told the New York Post.

While those core customers are lacing up their Nikes for the next march against Trump, the company is using profits from their sales to fund the other side of the political divide, however.

Senator Orrin Hatch (R-Utah), who has spoken out against gay marriage and urged President Trump to pull out of the Paris climate agreement, received $ 12,300 from Nike this year. Senator Bob Corker (R-Tennessee), another union-bashing, tax-cutting opponent of gay marriage, received $ 5,000.

#Resistance members who might want to burn their Nike gear after reading this should beware. Burning synthetic trainers can release harmful gases into the environment, and is actually less woke than continuing to wear them.

How does Kate Middleton, 36, do her hair? The question was answered on Good Morning Britain this morning.

On the show, an Instagram post from Kate’s hair stylist was shared which revealed the secrets of her hairdo. 

The photo was shared by hairstylist Amanda Cook Tucker ahead of Kate’s visit to Sweden and Norway with Prince William.

“There’s no such thing as a bad hair day when you’re married to the future King of England,” said presenter Charlotte Hawkins.

She continued: “13 brushes, 7 combs, 2 hairdryers and 3 curling tongs – that’s what it takes to make the hair look like that.”

It showcases the array of products which go into creating Kate’s hair every day. 

The impressive collection of products and appliances include hair spray, products and extension cables.

It comes as it is revealed Kate donated seven inches of her locks to charity.  

It is said she decided to donate the hair to the Little Princess Trust four months ago.

It was during a hair cut with hairdresser Joey, who works for Richard Ward Hair in Chelsea.

“While Joey was snipping away the idea came to her of doing some good with it rather than throwing it away,” a source told Daily Express.

“She mentioned it to Joey, who thought it was a brilliant idea.”

A number of tech companies and executives have voiced support of the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program. But Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos and his wife MacKenzie have just given $ 33 million in support to DACA recipients, also known as Dreamers. The two just donated the money to TheDream.US, which provides scholarships to Dreamers, and their donation will give 1,000 DACA recipients money to attend college. It’s the largest donation in history of TheDream.US. “My dad came to the US when he was 16 as part of Operation Pedro Pan,” Jeff Bezos said in a statement. “He landed in this country alone and unable to speak English. With a lot of grit and determination — and the help of some remarkable organizations in Delaware — my dad became an outstanding citizen, and he continues to give back to the country that he feels blessed him in so many ways. MacKenzie and I are honored to be able to help today’s Dreamers by funding these scholarships.”

Prior to President Trump’s decision to remove DACA protections in September, hundreds of CEOs, including Bezos, signed a letter asking him to keep the program intact and many voiced their disappointment when the president decided to end protections. In October, companies such as Google, Facebook and Amazon said they would lobby Congress to pass DACA protection legislation and in November, over 100 companies filed an amicus brief in support of plaintiffs aiming to reinstate DACA protections.

Dreamers receiving aid from TheDream.US get $ 33,000 in scholarships spread out over four years. “Our students are highly motivated and determined to succeed in college and in life. We’re a three-and-a-half-year-old program, so we don’t yet have graduation rates,” said the organization’s president, Candy Marshall, in a statement. “But our scholars are thriving academically. 94% return to their college after the first year; the national average is 72%. We expect a 75% graduation rate.”

Melania Trump, 47, gave a short speech at the Flag Hall and revealed she only gave the dress designer Herve Pierre two weeks to make the “gorgeous couture piece” as it had slipped her mind. 

The dress was an off-shoulder number, cream in colour, and featured ruffle detailing from the top to the very bottom. 

A thigh-high split in the skirt and a thin red ribbon round the waist helped Melania dazzle on stage at the ball. 

For the event yesterday, the First Lady stepped out in a brocade print empire neckline dress in metallic white. 

When she arrived to the event she had thrown a pale pink coat over her shoulders and she completed the look with a pair of bright pink pointed-toe stilettos. 

Melania’s hair was worn in tousled waves and she wore heavy eye make-up, plenty of bronzer and a pink lip. 

Alongside her short speech, Melania posed next to the dress and also with designer Herve. 

Last Friday, Melania stepped out with her husband US President Donald Trump, 72, before he made his Iran deal speech. 

She wore a beige trench coat with black buttons and a snack print trim. 

Melania appeared to channel business as she stood by President Donald Trump’s side.

Underneath her smart coat, the First Lady wore black cigarette cut trousers, flat shoes with a pointed toe and dark sunglasses sat on her nose. 

The pair were photographed as Donald Trump spoke to the press before boarding Marine One for Beltsville, Maryland, in Washington, DC.

The pair looked serious as President Trump prepared for a highly-anticipated address in which be would refuse to certify the 2015 Iranian nuclear deal.

He warned that the US may walk away from the deal – which he called “one of the worst” agreements in history.

Melania’s coat appeared to be from high-end designer Burberry, a company which is is famous for its trench coats.

The British brand specialising the outerwear prices jackets at between £1200 and £1500.

WHO has expressed gratitude to Saudi Arabia for making a “noble” donation to fight a cholera outbreak in Yemen, even though the kingdom itself is contributing to the spread of the illness in the neighboring country by bombing and blockading it.

Saudi Arabian Defense Minister and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, who initiated and is now overseeing his country’s intervention in Yemen, has ordered the King Salman Center for Humanitarian Aid and Relief (KSRelief) to contribute $ 66.7 million to fight cholera in a country that the Gulf kingdom has been bombing since March of 2015.

Cholera, which causes severe dysentery and vomiting, can develop in areas with poor sanitation. It is contracted by coming into contact with contaminated water sources.

Yemen, which has been torn apart by a civil war, continues to bleed from the Saudi-led bombardment. The conflict, now raging into its third year, has decimated the infrastructure and health facilities of the country, which has been described by the UN as the poorest in the Arab region.

Some 791 people have died from the ongoing cholera outbreak in Yemen so far, and over 100,000 are now suffering from the disease, the World Health Organization (WHO) said earlier this month.

On June 8, WHO and UNICEF made an appeal to the international community to come up with $ 66.7 million to help battle the spread of the disease in Yemen, noting that the country’s health system has been “nearly destroyed” by the ongoing violence, with “less than half” of its health facilities fully functional.

“Important infrastructure has been damaged by the violence, cutting 14.5 million people off from regular access to clean water and sanitation,” WHO noted, asking for urgent help.

The recently appointed Crown Prince responded to the appeal and authorized the charity of the ruling family to give a donation.

“We have listened to the call from UNICEF and WHO for an immediate donation of $ 66.7 million to address cholera specifically, and have acted accordingly,” said Dr. Abdullah Bin Abdulaziz Al-Rabeeah of KSRelief center, as quoted by Saudi Gazette.

WHO thanked the Crown Prince, saying that the money will save thousands of lives.

“On behalf of the WHO Regional Office I extend deep thanks and appreciation to His Royal Highness, Prince Mohammad bin Salman… for his noble initiative in the humanitarian field to support efforts which aim to alleviate suffering, provide relief through working to contain cholera, and prevent its complications in Yemen,” WHO Regional Director for the Eastern Mediterranean Dr. Mahmoud Fikri said.

Electronic Arts is making a commitment to inclusive gaming with a donation of $ 1 million to anti-bullying groups.

CEO Andrew Wilson announced today during the company’s EA Play event that the publisher will make a donation to United Nations HeForShe, PACER’s National Bullying Prevention Centerm, and Ditch the Label. EA also held an event where players could show their support for the groups last week.

The announcement comes at EA’s event ahead of next week’s Electronic Entertainment Expo, one of the most important industry gathering in gaming. It’s where blockbuster games like Battlefield take the spotlight — but not charity.

“All of you — our many millions of players out there — showed your support,” Wilson said in a press statement. “You came out to play, as more than 5.7 million active players participated in the Play to Give in-game challenges from June 2-June 4. We were moved by your tremendous show of support.”

He added, “As a thank you, we’re ensuing all of you can play some of our best EA games – for free* – today through June 18 as we celebrate play.”

This means for a limited time, free access to EA Access Vault titles on Xbox One for Xbox Live Gold members, free access to Origin Access on PC, and, on PlayStation 4, free game trials of Madden NFL 17, FIFA 17, Titanfall 2, UFC 2 and Plants vs. Zombies Garden Warfare 2 are available June 10 to June 18.

In addition, PlayStation 4 players who already own Star Wars: Battlefront can also play all premium maps and heroes through June 18.

Pope Francis has indicated that he’s open to the possibility of ordaining married men as a means of dealing with priest shortages facing remote Catholic communities, according to an interview published in Die Zeit.

The pope stressed that removing the celibacy rule was not the answer to the Catholic Church’s priest shortage but expressed a willingness to examine whether married men of proven faith, known as “viri probati,” could be ordained.

“We must consider if viri probati is a possibility. Then we must determine what tasks they can perform, for example, in remote communities,”AP quoted the pontiff as saying.

The proposal has been around for decades but came under the spotlight again this year as a result of Pope Francis’ apparent positive reaction to the suggestion made by Brazilian clergy.

Brazilian Cardinal CláudioHummes is pushing the request to combat the reported shortfall of 100,000 priests needed in the country.

Pope Francis also repeated concerns to the German newspaper, Thursday, around the rise of populism, stating that “populism is evil and ends badly as the past century showed.”

Meanwhile, the Vatican press office revealed Friday the pope is donating €100,000 ($ 106,090) to those living in poverty-stricken circumstances in the war-ravaged Syrian city of Aleppo. It’s not clear at this stage who exactly will qualify for the funds or how many people will benefit.

The Vatican administration, known as the Roman Curia, is contributing to the donation which will be made through the Office of Papal Charities and Franciscan missionaries serving the Holy Land, according to Vatican Radio.

This is the department of the Holy See that directs charity to the poor “in the name of the Holy Father,” according to the Vatican website.

The pope celebrated mass for Syria in the Italian town of Ariccia Friday, where he had been carrying out Spiritual Exercises, before returning to the Vatican.

Pope Francis has previously condemned the bombing of Aleppo, saying that “those responsible for killing civilians will have to answer to God.”

The Vatican press office also confirmed that Pope Francis will visit Colombia in September 2017.

According to Billboard, Chance said that the large sum would be taken from ticket sales for his Spring 2017 tour. The donation was granted yesterday in the library of Westcott Elementary, near where the musician grew up on the South Side of Chicago. There, Chance gave a press conference where he explained that SocialWorks — the nonprofit he started in September 2016 that aims “to empower youth through the arts, education, and civic engagement while fostering leadership, accessibility, and positivity within the youth throughout Chicago” — would also be giving $ 10,000 to assorted public schools in the city for every $ 100,000 that they raise:

As a private citizen, as a parent and a product of CPS I’m asking that you guys join the fight with me. Organize with me. Mobilize with me. While I’m frustrated and disappointed in the governor’s inaction, that will not stop me from continuing to do all I can to support Chicago’s most valuable resource: its children.

Despite Secretary of Education Betsy DeVos’s threat to public education as we know it, public schools are largely in the hands state governments. It was in part Illinois Governor Bruce Rauner’s refusal to allot the debt-riddled public school system in the Windy City the funds it needs that sent Chance into action (Rauner vetoed a bill that would have given the system $ 215 million). The Republican governor’s education policies have been criticized as racially biased; Chicago Public Schools CEO Forrest Claypool said in a statement, “Gov. Rauner did not create this unjust system, but he has chosen to perpetuate it, violating the civil rights of hundreds of thousands of Chicago schoolchildren and threatening their futures.”

CNN cites a statement by Emily Bittner, CPS’s director of communications:

As a CPS graduate, Chance has shown Chicago students not only the heights they can achieve but the generosity they can share. We also appreciate his strong advocacy for Chicago schoolchildren, who suffer under the state’s discriminatory system of funding, which Gov. Rauner continues to perpetuate.

Per CNN, a lawsuit has been filed by five families and the Chicago Board of Education against the State of Illinois, further illuminating claims of government neglect of schools in poor and predominantly black communities. The Billboard article notes that Chicago’s public schools have planned to close 20 days early this year due to lack of funding, impacting approximately 400,000 kids.

There’s a direct correlation between educational neglect and the crime rates Donald Trump so often likes to cite, specifically in Chicago, as an excuse to tweet threats about instituting oppressive police states. It’s unfortunate to say the least that the people who perpetuate institutional neglect are also the ones advocating a form of “law and order” that renders immobilized communities so vulnerable.
