Poor Mike is in trouble after taking a detour through that asteroid field. Even worse, his spaceship place is a literal death trap and he’s also being chased by some weird demonic eye demon. It is time to escape – and to supposedly die a whole lot of times in the process.

When Psydra games, creators of twisted RPG Dark Scavenger (2012), take on the platformer genre, you just know that this won’t be your run-of-the-mill jump and run. And indeed, Mike Dies feels more like a metroidvania, with short, challenging levels which are interconnected and that you may have to revisit at a later time.

Much like in Terry Cavanagh’s VVVVVV, there’s a distinct sense of place to Mike’s spaceship. You’re not just stumbling through a haphazardly put together string of nasty levels. Instead, this place is full of dead ends, secrets, and hidden pathways to discover. It might not look like it, but there’s rhyme and reason to all of this torture – and an odd story to boot.

Your set of moves is fairly limited. Running, jumping, and hovering in place are your only means of survival, and the biggest danger in the early levels is not getting part of you teleported away (while the other parts stays where you are, yikes).

But no worries, this limited moveset doesn’t grow stale anytime soon. Mike Dies is designed quite well and has some surprises up its sleeve. Meanwhile, you cannot shake the feeling that someone’s playing a rather cruel little game with you, but that’s for you to figure out…

The USS George H.W. Bush, a Nimitz-class warship, has docked outside an Israeli port, local media report, saying it is the first such visit in 17 years. The supercarrier has been a base for US coalition airstrikes against Islamic State.

The US Navy supercarrier dropped anchor some four kilometers from the port of Haifa in northern Israel, Israeli media said. The 333-meter long ship was too large to dock in the port directly.

The carrier, which is named after the 41st US President, left its homeport of Norfolk, Virginia in January of this year to battle Islamic State (IS, formerly ISIS/ISIL) militants in Syria and Iraq. The warship mainly operated in the Persian Gulf.

Commissioned in 2009, the USS George H.W. Bush can host a crew of 5,000-6,000 people and accommodate about 90 fighter jets and helicopters. She has two Westinghouse A4W nuclear reactors and can, thus, operate for about 20 years without refueling.

The reason for ship’s visit is yet unclear. It will spend four days near Haifa and then depart to continue operations against the extremists.

The warship’s crew is expected to tour the Jewish state in the coming days and celebrate US Independence Day there on July 4, the Times of Israel said, citing Channel 10.

According to the local media, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Avigdor Liberman are to visit the carrier on Monday, along with Haifa Mayor Yona Yahav.

A US nuclear submarine armed with guided missiles has made a port call in South Korea, while Pyongyang is reportedly holding massive long-range artillery drills amid muscle-flexing in the region and rising tensions between Washington and North Korea.

The USS Michigan nuclear submarine arrived in South Korea on Tuesday “during a regularly scheduled deployment to the Western Pacific,” according to a statement issued by the US Pacific Fleet.

The submarine is one of the four Ohio-class nuclear vessels, one of the largest in the world “measuring more than 560 feet long and weighing more than 18,000 tons when submerged.”

The US military praises the sub as a weapon to “provide the Navy with unprecedented strike and special operation mission capabilities.”

The move comes at a tense time in relations between Washington and Seoul on one side and North Korea on the other.

On Tuesday, Pyongyang celebrates the 85th anniversary of the foundation of its Korean People’s Army. The jubilee was marked by massive – yet conventional – drills, which featured some 300-400 long-range artillery pieces and were supervised by North Korean leader Kin Jong-un, according to Yonhap News agency citing South Korean Army sources.

Engadget editors have let you know how we feel after extended time with the Nintendo Switch, and in an interview with Time, Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime gave us some updates from within the company. Through its first five days on sale, the Switch continued to be Nintendo’s fastest-selling console ever in the US, but the biggest questions are about issues some owners are experiencing. When it comes to that occasionally-finicky left Joy-Con, Fils-Aime said “all I can tell you is that we are aware of and have seen some of the reports. We’re asking consumers a lot of questions….we’ll look and see what the next steps are.”

Nintendo PR followed up with a statement which mentioned: “There are no widespread technical problems, and all issues are being handled promptly, including the reports regarding the left Joy-Con Bluetooth connection.” We don’t know what this means going forward, but for now, if you’re having problems staying connected we’d recommend calling support instead of trying any DIY repairs.

The exec also spoke to owner’s desire for spare Switch docks, saying that “more will be available shortly,” however, don’t expect a Nintendo-made cable that replaces the dock functionality. The way the company sees it, using the dock protects the console from damage, so making a combo USB-C/HDMI cable that’s easier to carry may fall to a third-party.
