It’s time for another trailer round-up, where we lasso a handful of the latest trailers and wrangle them into one place for your viewing convenience. Below, you’ll find trailers for a true survival story called Adrift, the paranoia techno-thriller Distorted, a war drama adaptation of The Yellow Birds, cheesy romance Dog Days, and more.
Shailene Woodley and Sam Claflin star in Adrift, the latest movie from director Baltasar Kormakur (Contraband, 2 Guns). Remarkably, this survival tale is based on the true story of a young couple who are caught in one of the most devastating hurricanes in history. This looks properly intense, so count me in.
Adrift hits theaters on June 1, 2018.
As the two sailors set out on a journey across the ocean, Tami Oldham (Woodley) and Richard Sharp (Claflin) couldn’t anticipate they would be sailing directly into one of the most catastrophic hurricanes in recorded history. In the aftermath of the storm, Tami awakens to find Richard badly injured and their boat in ruins. With no hope for rescue, Tami must find the strength and determination to save herself and the only man she has ever loved.
Distorted is a paranoia techno-thriller starring Christina Ricci and John Cusack, who’s very clearly in the “I don’t give a shit” phase of his career. This looks like it was written by someone who watched a double-feature of the Disney Channel Original movie Smart House and Ben Wheatley’s High-Rise, but I’m not convinced this will end up being better than either of those films. Distorted is coming to select theaters and VOD sometime this fall.
A 32-year-old woman suffering from bipolar disorder comes to suspect the proprietor of the state-of-the-art “smart apartment” she and her husband just moved into is using the building’s residents as unwitting guinea pigs for a “synthetic telepathy’” brainwashing plot with dire global ramifications.
This is the first I’m hearing of this show (probably because it’s an AT&T original), but Condor is based on the terrific conspiracy thriller Three Days of the Condor and has a stellar cast that includes Max Irons, William Hurt, Mira Sorvino, Brendan Fraser, and Bob Balaban. That alone might make it worth tuning in for, and we’ll find out when it comes to the AT&T-owned Audience Network on June 6, 2018.
Condor follows young CIA analyst Joe Turner, whose idealism is tested when he stumbles onto a terrible but brilliant plan that threatens the lives of millions. Turner is an idealistic millennial who secretly joins the CIA hoping to reform it from within. But when everyone in his office is massacred by professional killers, this brilliant analyst is forced out of his ivory tower think tank and into battle with the most dangerous elements in the military-industrial complex. Alden Ehrenreich, Tye Sheridan, Toni Collette, Jennifer Aniston, and Jason Patric star in this intense-looking war thriller that debuted at last year’s Sundance Film Festival. There appear to be all kinds of secrets bubbling underneath the surface, and the movie has already won an award for its cinematography, so it’s probably worth a watch. The Yellow Birds is coming to DirecTV on May 17, 2018, and it’ll arrive in limited theaters and VOD on June 15, 2018.
Two young soldiers, Bartle (21) and Murph (18) navigate the terrors of the Iraq War under the command of the older, troubled Sergeant Sterling. All the while, Bartle is tortured by a promise he made to Murph’s mother before their deployment.
Welp, I’m kinda baffled at this one. Comedian Ken Marino, who recently directed How to Be a Latin Lover, is behind the camera on this schmaltzy-looking rom-com, which managed to snag a great cast that includes Adam Pally, Nina Dobrev, Vanessa Hudgens, Eva Longoria, and Finn Wolfhard. Despite the fact that I like a lot of those performers, this one’s a hard pass for me.
From acclaimed production company LD Entertainment (The Zookeeper’s Wife, Jackie, and Megan Leavey) and Director Ken Marino comes Dog Days. Dog Days is a hilarious and heartfelt ensemble comedy that follows the lives of multiple dog owners and their beloved fluffy pals around sunny Los Angeles. When these human and canine’s paths start to intertwine, their lives begin changing in ways they never expected.
We’ve now hit the point where Fifty Shades of Grey – a piece of fan fiction inspired by Twilight – has inspired an entirely separate movie about four older women who gather together to read it. This is absolutely not my tempo, but at least it looks like stars Diane Keaton, Jane Fonda, Mary Steenburgen, and Candice Bergen are having fun.
Diane (Diane Keaton) is recently widowed after 40 years of marriage, Vivian (Jane Fonda) enjoys her men with no strings attached, Sharon (Candice Bergen) is still working through her decades-old divorce, and Carol’s (Mary Steenburgen) marriage is in a slump after 35 years. The lives of these four lifelong friends are turned upside down after reading the infamous “50 Shades of Grey,” catapulting them into a series of outrageous life choices.
Hugh Grant and Ben Whishaw star in this three-part miniseries that tells the true story of a controversial affair between a prominent parliament member and his secret lover. Stephen Frears directs, and it arrives on the BBC sometime in 2018.
A Very English Scandal is the story of an illegal love affair that threatened the life of one man and the entire British establishment. Directed by Stephen Frears (The Queen, Philomena) and written by Russell T Davies, this brand new three-part series is a darkly comic adaptation of true events.
Let’s wrap things up with a trailer for a TV series coming to the Paramount Network. Alicia Silverstone (remember her?) stars in American Woman, a show about a newly-single mother in 1970s Beverly Hills who proves she’s strong enough to make it with the help of her friends. It’s nice to see Silverstone again, but if this trailer is an accurate indication of the quality of the writing in this series, I’ll be skipping this one. American Woman premieres on June 7, 2018.
Inspired by the upbringing of co-executive producer and Real Housewife of Beverly Hills Kyle Richards, this series follows an unconventional mom named Bonnie (Alicia Silverstone) struggling to raise her daughters with the help of her two best friends Kathleen (Mena Suvari) and Diana (Jennifer Bartels) as they discover their own brand of independence amid the rise of second-wave feminism in the 1970s.

Horror title Bvoid looks to take the player on a disjointed, disturbing journey through dreams, having them cross an ever-shifting, broken world born of PSX-era visuals, LSD: Dream Emulator inspirations, and twisted FMV sequences.
Bvoid tasks the player with exploring this low-poly place as it changes before them, moving from hospital rooms to discomforting art galleries to chambers lit by brilliant purple skies. Or it might not, as the game features a bit of randomness that can change where the player will end up, offering ever-different routes through the game’s uncomfortable landscapes. This leaves the game open to multiple interpretations depending on how the player views its eerie events, forcing players to go back into its depths to find the real answers.
Bvoid aims to stick to the original PlayStation’s capabilities, offering an experience like it, while also avoiding jump scares in favor of building up a feeling of dread within the player as they explore. Few answers will be made clear to the player as they meander this hostile, visually-disturbing place, but perhaps through bravely combing through it all, we can come to some conclusions as to what we’re witnessing (or allowing into our lives) as we follow an unspoken narrative of death and dying.

]]>Over the last few weeks, mainstream media have simultaneously turned their attention to the ongoing anti-terrorist operation in Eastern Ghouta, a militant-controlled suburb of Damascus, which is seeing a new wave of clashes between Syrian government forces and Islamist factions.
While the army aims to clear the area of such terrorist units as Jaysh al-Islam, Jabhat Fatah al-Sham (formerly known as al-Nusra Front), Ahrar al-Sham and Failaq al-Rahman, Western media, often relying on militant-embedded sources, continue to paint an ominous picture, in which the government troops are deliberately slaughtering civilians.
“Right now we see very concerted Western media attempt to paint the Syrian government as the bad guy, the evil, and giving breathing space for the terrorists who are having the last bastion,” Kaveh Afrasiabi, a former adviser to Iran’s nuclear negotiation team, explained to RT. “The Syrian government has the legitimate security concerns because of the daily shelling of its capital city by the rebels.”
For years now, Al-Qaeda terrorists in #EastGhouta, who have deliberately embedded themselves in civilian areas and denied humanitarian assistance to civilians there, have killed, through mortaring, untold numbers of civilians in Damascus, over a period of years now.

“A naive viewer might imagine that Assad was just bombing civilians for the hell of it because the jihadi fighters are totally absent from the picture. And the pictures are literally provided by the jihadists themselves,” Peter Ford, former UK ambassador to Syria and Bahrain, told RT, referring to the controversial White Helmets, who have long been hailed by the mainstream western media as heroes. However, the UK-backed NGO has long been plagued by allegations of having close ties with terrorist groups.
Before the Syrian government forces intensified operations against jihadist factions in the area, Russia had been trying to broker a deal with armed groups to stop using civilians as human shields and surrender their weapons. Moscow has also been working relentlessly to allow humanitarian aid in. On Thursday, however, Russia had to reject a Western-backed UN resolution for a 30-day ceasefire in Syria as “utopian,” with Russia’s envoy Vassily Nebenzia pointing out that the “propaganda-driven” approach to the coverage of the conflict was only encouraging militants to continue their armed provocations.
“As the saying goes, truth is the first casualty of war,” Afrasiabi laments. The New York Times on Tuesday, for instance, published a piece based on the information provided by the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR), a one-man Britain-based war-monitoring group. The piece paints the Assad regime as pure evil, whose only intention is to butcher civilians. The British Guardian newspaper, meanwhile, went as far as to compare the civilian suffering in Eastern Ghouta to Bosnia’s Srebrenica.
Russia has also been repeatedly attacked for the failure of its de-escalation zone initiative and its support of Damascus. Together with Iran and Turkey, Russia is tasked with enforcing the ceasefire in Eastern Ghouta, one of the de-escalation zones established as a result of the Astana talks in May 2017. Despite the ongoing armed provocations, the Russian Center for Reconciliation in Syria enabled the militants to leave the area, but the proposal was rejected.
What is also being downplayed is the Syrian and Russian resolve to end the Ghouta crisis, similar to the one during the Battle of Aleppo, where special corridors were organized to evacuate civilians out of the city, before extending the offer to terrorists for a mass exodus. NYT and the Guardian are not the only western media sources to have shown bias in reporting the events in Eastern Ghouta. A number of experts have pointed out that the Western media coverage of the current events follows a pattern developed in covering the operation to liberate Aleppo, which ended in July 2016.
“We have seen this kind of atrocity level pulled over and over again a few months ago, with Aleppo for example,” Jim Jatras, political analyst, and media and government affairs specialist, told RT. “Every time the Al Qaeda linked groups are on the ropes and the Syrian army is on the verge of liberating territory, then we hear all these horror stories, some of which may have a basis in truth, some not, about how civilians are suffering but nothing on who the terrorists are who are controlling these areas and oppressing the people who live there.”
The Aleppo campaign, initially backed by Russian airstrikes, received mostly one-sided, negative coverage in the Western media, with reporters and politicians accusing Moscow of “war crimes” and causing a “humanitarian disaster,” despite the fact that Moscow and Damascus maintained a ‘no-fly zone’ over the city. The liberation of the city was presented as its “fall” and “destruction,” as media outlets chose footage of shelled-out buildings rather than scenes of Aleppo civilians celebrating in the streets. Eventually, that narrative fell apart as tens of thousands of refugees started returning to the city and rebuilding of ruined areas began.

Now the same tactic is being used by the Western media today. This week, CNN used a 15-year-old, Muhammad Najem, and selfie videos he posted on social media, to base their report on the bloody atrocities allegedly committed by the government forces in Damascus suburbs. “The children of Ghouta die every day by the bombing of the Assad regime and Russia,” Najem says, in a segment featured on CNN.
The Syrian boy with flawless English serves as a stark reminder of a seven-year-old Bana al-Abed, who became the “voice” of many civilians trapped under the government siege in Aleppo. While many had only fondness and concern for the Aleppo girl, to others her accounts raised doubt and were seen as a directed propaganda effort.
“We saw this very much with Aleppo. We saw the same kind of coverage from the Western media. Atrocities were being predicted and reported and it turned out that most of those, if not all of them, were actually false propaganda claims. And we are seeing the repeat of this situation again,” Charles Shoebridge, a security analyst and former UK army officer, pointed out.
In a stark contrast, any concern over civilians’ fate miraculously disappeared from Western media coverage during the US-led coalition’s ‘liberation’ of Raqqa and Mosul.
“There was actually no coverage of the situation of Raqqa and Mosul. There were occasional articles,” Shoebridge told RT. “The reason why these things are not being covered is because it is not conducive to supporting UK and US foreign policy which is, of course, still, even now, to destabilize and undermine the Assad government.”
“The Western media are so closely linked to information or misinformation coming out of their governments that it is really misleading the public in the Western countries,” Jim Jatras added.
Real images of destruction from Raqqa and Mosul were there for British and American media outlets to beat the drums of a humanitarian catastrophe. Yet most outlets stayed silent to the indiscriminate bombing of civilians in Syrian and Iraqi cities by the US-led Inherent Resolve coalition. No objection was voiced to the lack of civilian evacuation or the refusal to negotiate a ceasefire with the hardcore Islamists holding civilians as human shields.
“There were no calls … for a ceasefire to take place” during the British and the American led bombardment of Mosul and of Raqqa, Shoebridge noted. “The US bombardment and sieges of these areas were causing immense suffering and loss of life among civilian populations.” Yet any remote calls to have a ceasefire so that civilians could leave the besieged cities were met with the response “no, this would help terrorists who are occupying that area,” Shoebridge added.
The same selective anti-Assad coverage is continuing in East Ghouta, where the Western media continues to neglect the atrocities committed by the jihadists in the region.
Do I need to remind everyone that jihadis put people in cages using them as human shields in east ghouta

“What the media failed to point out also is that the Islamic State is one of the groups which hold Yarmuk camp, which is one corner of Ghouta, and then you have an affiliate of Al Qaeda which is holding another corner,” former ambassador Ford points out. “So these are really bad guys. Exactly the guys that were wrinkled out of Mosul and Raqqa, with many civilian casualties in the process.”

Faith follows a young priest back to a home where an apparent case of demonic possession left few alive a year before. Investigating these past events will dredge up horrific memories and even more unsettling beings, though, testing players’ bravery through the horror title’s incredible use of rotoscope, Spectrum-like visuals, and frightening sound.
Players will comb through the house where the demonic possession supposedly occurred and the nearby grounds, dealing with periodic monstrous appearances with a quick flick of the cross. Well, some of them. There are far more powerful presences that lurk nearby – disturbing beasts that are made all the more discomforting by the game’s rotoscope animation. The cross may not be enough for some of these creatures, requiring the player dig deep for answers in order to survive their presence.
Faith makes good use of its limited visuals to frighten the player, creating a sense that things never look quite right. Like The Last Door, the minimalist look creates this sense that what you are looking at is not quite right, allowing player imagination to give it a deeper dread. However, it’s the sound and music that makes this game crawl under the skin, using distorted sound and muffled voice to make the senses beg to be free of this nightmare we willing subject ourselves to.
It may appear simple, but Faith hides some incredible scares (without relying on jumps) for horror fans, taking them down many creepy story paths. It’s also inexcusable not to play since you can pay whatever you like for it.
Faith is available for whatever you wish to pay for it on Itch.io. For more information on the game and Airdorf Games, you can follow them on Facebook, YouTube, and Twitter.

Elliott Management, the $ 31.6 billion New York hedge fund run by Paul Singer, sees a major change coming to the financial markets as a result of President Donald Trump’s election. It’s just too soon to know exactly what will follow.
“Much of the contemplated agenda is supportive of growth (e.g., reforming the tax code, streamlining regulation and expanding natural resources production),” the fund wrote in an unsigned fourth-quarter letter to investors. “Other proposals could be harmful to growth depending on how they are implemented (e.g., more restrictive trade policies and tariffs).”
Stocks have rallied to record highs since Trump’s election, with the Dow Jones Industrial Average gaining more than 9%, in part as investors have focused on the growth-supportive aspects of Trump’s presidential promises. Trump has promised to slash regulation on the environment as well as taxes.
But some are worrying that this sudden run-up has stocks looking expensive again. The cyclically adjusted price-to-earnings ratio, a valuation metric based on the last 10 years of average earnings and calibrated for inflation, is at the highest level since the early 2000s.
In the letter, Elliott also raises the risks that this run-up in shares poses.
“It is too early to determine, at what may be the dawn of a new era, whether stock prices are too far ‘over their skis’ or are actually on the verge of reflecting the opportunities posed by the low baseline for potentially much higher growth created by the reversal of eight years of growth-repressive and distorted fiscal and monetary policies.
Similarly, it is premature to conclude whether bond markets have been overly pessimistic these last few weeks or if the recent declines in prices are only the beginning of a sustained rise in interest rates. After all, even at current levels of bond prices, which are down several percent from their highs just a few months ago, bond prices do not provide a reasonable return after accounting for current inflation, much less the rate of inflation which could be expected if economic growth picked up meaningfully.”
Elliott’s flagship fund returned 4.4% for the fourth quarter and 13.1% last year, according to the letter.
