For the first time since being disqualified from RuPaul’s Drag Race in March 2020, disgraced performer Sherry Pie (the stage name of Joey Gugliemelli) sat down for a live televised interview on Tuesday’s Tamron Hall Show.

Before we jump in, here’s some background: Gugliemelli competed in the 12th season of VH1’s popular reality competition series, but a series of sexual misconduct allegations were brought against him just hours before his first episode was set to air, prompting producers to edit him out of the season and disqualify him from the competition. Up to a dozen men have now come forward with claims that Gugliemelli — posing as a fake casting director named Allison Mossie — tricked them into sending money and degrading photographs under the guise of being considered for roles on stage and screen.

Hall began Tuesday’s episode by addressing the social media backlash she’s been receiving for planning this conversation. “The very idea that I’d have Sherry Pie on … was seen by some as giving away my platform,” Hall said to the camera. “I’ve been a reporter for 30 years. I’ve interviewed rapists, I’ve interviewed murderers, I remember interviewing a woman in prison who murdered a child she was trusted to care for. It’s not giving away your platform. It’s called an interview, and people who do bad things are interviewed. R. Kelly comes to mind. That’s just one person I’m thinking who was recently interviewed on multiple platforms and shared all over social media.”

After insisting that she doesn’t give “free passes,” Hall welcomed Gugliemelli into the studio remotely.

“I first want to say that there are no ‘allegations,’” Gugliemelli began. “I admit to my wrongdoings and horrible behavior. I don’t know if … more [victims] will come forward. I’m here to apologize, and I want to make that very clear. I understand now, in lieu of this year, how much pain I’ve caused. I just want to let the victims know, and everyone else know, that I am so sorry. I can’t even begin to imagine the pain and the trauma that I’ve caused. That’s really all I have to say.” (And, truly, he didn’t have much else to say.)

Gugliemelli explained that he’s been “doing cognitive behavioral therapy” ever since his disqualification and has been in contact with three of his victims. “Two of them I still speak to,” he said. “One of them asked me to no longer contact them, and I totally understand that.” Gugliemelli explained that some of his victims were very close friends, and that he “wanted to be able to keep them around and keep them close.”

As for potential criminal charges, Gugliemelli is “prepared to take any responsibility,” though he’s only been contacted by authorities for a welfare check thus far.

Towards the end of the end of the interview, Gugliemelli revealed that he was diagnosed with borderline personality disorder around the time of his disqualification, adding, “I don’t blame my mental illness for anything I’ve done.” He also made vague allusions to his childhood, which included a “deplorable” father and a stepfather with whom he still has a bad relationship.

Indonesian judoka Miftahul Jannah was banned from competing in the women’s 52kg visual impairment category at the Asian Para Games after the athlete refused to remove her hijab.

The 21-year-old Muslim was disqualified from the competition for breaching the International Judo Federation (IJF) rules, which state that a judoka’s head “may not be covered except for bandaging of a medical nature.”

The athlete left the tatami in tears, triggering a public uproar over the incident which was deemed discriminative by many fans.

Words of support poured in on social media with many users expressing their admiration towards the athlete – who refused to take off her head cover.

The president of the Indonesian National Paralympic Committee (NPC), Senny Marbun, blamed negligence for the controversy, adding that the team coach was unaware of the rule because his English was poor.

“On behalf of the NPC I apologize for this. This is really embarrassing, and I hope it will not occur again in the future,” Senny said during a press conference on Monday.

The incident, which was widely covered by the Indonesian media, attracted the attention of the country’s House of Representatives (DPR), whose members rewarded Miftahul with an Umrah trip to Mecca.

“I sincerely appreciate it and would like to say thank you to whomever rewarded me an Umrah ticket. I am truly elated. It personally feels like a gold medal for me since I failed to participate in yesterday’s match,” the athlete said on Tuesday.

The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) has disqualified bobsleigh athlete Nadezhda Sergeeva representing the Olympic Athletes (OAR) from Russia for violating the doping rules. Her results at the 2018 Olympics are annulled.

The CAS decision published on Saturday morning follows the Russian Bobsleigh Federation’s report on Sergeeva’s positive tests for a banned drug.

The banned substance is trimetazidine, according to the CAS, which also said the athlete “admitted the anti-doping rule violation.”

“She is disqualified from the women’s bobsleigh event at the Olympic Winter Games Pyeongchang 2018 and the results obtained by the team OAR Sergeeva/[her brakewoman] Kocherzhova at the same event are disqualified with all resulting consequences,” the main body for resolving legal disputes in international sport stated.

Sergeeva and her teammate, Anastasia Kocherzhova, placed 12th in the two-woman bobsled competition on Wednesday.

Christie was left crumpled up against the barriers, holding her troublesome right ankle and staring down the barrel of a sixth consecutive unfortunate exit from an Olympic skating event.

However, since she had crashed in the very early stages, the race was restarted and Christie appeared fit enough to continue despite what she later revealed was ligament damage to her ankle.

The Brit battled her way through the field from the back to finish second, but was then disqualified by the referees after a video review.

But Christie was baffled by the decision to give her a yellow card, which would suggest the authorities had decided she had deliberately obstructed another athlete.

“I’ve never had a yellow card in my life! I barely get penalties,” Christie said.

“The only thing I can think of is the referee maybe doesn’t think it’s safe for me to race with my ankle the way it is because he was encouraging me to get off the ice after the fall on the start. If that is it, then fair enough.

She added: “A few days ago I didn’t think I’d be getting on the ice. I did everything I could to turn this around.

“I’ve got ligament damage in my ankle. Putting a skate on with that is not the comfiest thing in the world.

“We did everything we could. Obviously, it wasn’t meant to be.

“I wouldn’t even have got on in a world championship.

“The only reason [the coaches] gave me the choice was because it was an Olympics.

“I worked so hard to get back from this injury.

“I promise Britain I will fight from this and I will come back in Beijing and hopefully I can do Britain proud then.”

Christie was left distraught four years ago when she was disqualified from all three of her events despite arriving at Sochi 2014 as one of Team GB’s leading medal hopes.

The Scottish skater revealed she received death threats after her Russian nightmare and considered quitting the sport, but bounced back to win two world titles in Rotterdam last year.

But having flown to South Korea brimming with confidence, she crashed in the 500m final and could only finish fourth despite setting an Olympic record in the heats.

In the 1500m, Christie only made it as far as the semi-finals before a collision with China’s Li Jinyu saw her eliminated by the judges.

She still had one event remaining and appeared to have been handed a kind draw in the heats of the 1000m.

However, the 27-year-old faced a race against time to rehabilitate her swollen ankle in time to compete and admitted before the race that she was far from 100 per cent.

And after hitting the ice immediately off the start, Christie was left holding her sore ankle, only to get back up and finish second in the heat.

But the judges gave her a yellow card for an intentional obstruction of an opponent, handing her a second disqualification of the Games and her fifth in Olympic events overall.

The horrific incident happened in the sprint finish at the end of stage four in Vittel when Sagan lifted his elbow and sent Cavendish hurtling into the barriers.

The Briton spun into the road and another rider ploughed over him as he fell.

Yorkshire’s Ben Swift then struck Cavendish’s front wheel and somersaulted into the Manxman, who took more than 10 minutes to remount and he also sustained scrapes and bruises down one side.

“I’m obviously massively disappointed to get this news about the fracture,” Cavendish said. “The team was incredible today.

“They executed to perfection what we wanted to do this morning.

“I feel I was in a good position to win and to lose that and even having to leave the Tour, a race I have built my whole career around, is really sad.”

He said at the time of the crash: “I was just following Arnaud Demare and Sagan came over.

“I get on with Peter well but I don’t get the elbow – I’m not a fan of him putting his elbow in me like that.

“A crash is a crash, I’d just like to know about the elbow really.”

His arm in a sling, Cavendish was taken to hospital for a check-up on his right shoulder, which had been badly hurt on the Tour’s Grand Depart in Harrogate in 2014.

Asked about his chances of continuing, Cavendish had said: “If it doesn’t show anything I’ll try. But in terms of pain, I’ve done my shoulder twice before and I’m in more pain now than I was for one of my shoulders, so that doesn’t make me too optimistic.

“If I can’t pull on my bars, if I can’t brake with this finger – I don’t want to be a hazard to the other guys. I’ll definitely need stitches in this finger, it’s bleeding a lot.

“With the shoulder, I’m not sure if I’ve done something to the ligament. I’m not a doctor but I’m not optimistic.”

But he has now ruled himself out of the rest of the Tour.

Sagan had finished just behind stage winner Demare but race officials later took the drastic step of expelling him from the race.

Sagan visited the Dimension Data bus after the finish to check on Cavendish.

“Mark was coming pretty fast from the back,” the Slovakian said. “I tried but didn’t have time to react to go left. He came to me and I had to defend.”

Asked if he had apologised, he added: “For sure, because it’s not nice to crash like that.”

Dimension Data sports director Roger Hammond was more forthright, saying: “It was a flick of the elbow which was completely outrageous. There was no reason for that elbow. As a former professional bike rider I know the way it is done.

“This is a sad, sad day for the sport. Sagan is a hero and idol of mine but a precedent has to be set. It is extremely sad for cycling.”

Sagan is the first world champion to be excluded from the Tour in 20 years since France’s Laurent Brochard was kicked out for doping offences in 1997.

It is also the first time a sprinter has been expelled for such offences since Australian Mark Renshaw was removed for repeatedly headbutting a rival in 2010.

After their first review of video footage, UCI commissaires relegated Sagan from second to 115th and docked him 80 points in the Green Jersey competition.

But a few hours later, it was announced Sagan had been excluded from the Tour. He was also fined 200 Swiss francs.

However, Sagan has since appealed against his disqualification.

Known as an eccentric but lovable character, Sagan is the winner of eight Tour stages – including Monday’s third stage. He was favourite for the Green Jersey points competition, which he has won five times.

Tour leader Geraint Thomas had also been involved in a separate crash, his second in three days, grazing a knee, and in bandages as he received his latest Yellow Jersey.

Thomas still leads from Sky team-mate Chris Froome by 12 seconds. Michael Matthews of Sunweb is third.

Former U.S. soccer stars Abby Wambach and Mia Hamm are offering support to an eight-year-old Nebraska girl who says her team was disqualified from a youth soccer tournament because she says she looks like a boy.

WOWT-TV reports Mili Hernandez’s team had advanced to the finals of the tournament when it was suddenly disqualified. The Springfield Soccer Association tells the station that a misprint in the team’s roster identified Hernandez as a boy in “violation of state and tournament rules” and her appearance wasn’t an issue. The girl wears her hair cut short.

“Just because I look like a boy doesn’t mean I am a boy,” Mili Hernandez told the local TV station. “They don’t have a reason to kick the whole club out.”

The family said it provided Mili Hernandez’s insurance card to tournament organizers that proved she’s a girl. However, it wasn’t enough to allow Hernandez or her team to play.

The Nebraska State Soccer Association has apologized to Hernandez. 

It said in a statement Monday that the Springfield soccer club’s decision to disqualify Hernandez’s team does not represent the association’s core values of teamwork and inclusion.

The state soccer association said it did not oversee the Springfield tournament but will work directly with clubs and tournament officials to ensure nothing like this happens again.

Wambach says on social media that she’s “won championships” with her own short haircut and wants to meet the girl.

Hamm has invited Hernandez to one of her soccer camps.
