The following contains major spoilers from the series finale of ABC’s Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Deciding on the series-ending fates of the Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. was not a daunting task, but a fun one, says one of the Marvel drama’s showrunners. When it came to figuring out who would end up where, doing what, and with whom in the series finale’s closing sequence, which followed a one-year time jump, “I don’t remember struggling with that too much,” co-showrunner Jed Whedon told press this week “I mean, it was fun” — in part, because the rest of that final episode was so jam-packed with timey wimey crises and solutions. “In the first half,” Whedon noted, “it was like, ‘There’s so many moving parts to this time thing. My brain’s going to explode!’ And this was just blue sky, ‘What could it be?’ It’s just fun to think about, and so there are tons of great options.” Simply said, when locking onto where Coulson, May, Daisy et al would end up, “We sort of tried to put everybody in a different-feeling thing and in a different place and separate them as much as possible,” Whedon said. “But I don’t remember struggling with that. I think that was more just the fun of the ending.” As revealed during the final sequence, as each team member digitally exited their virtual, one-year-later reunion at the New York speakeasy: MACK is still a (duster-wearing) bigwig with S.H.I.E.L.D., and is currently supervising things aboard an helicarrier. His partner YOLANDA is also a decorated S.H.I.E.L.D. agent, and returned to chasing an 0-8-4 with PIPER and an LMD DAVIS. “It’s clear that Mack and Yo-Yo are still together in a relationship and working with one another — and proud of one another,” said co-showrunner Maurissa Tancharoen. FITZSIMMONS are retired with a capital-R, and left the get-together to resume a countryside picnic with Alya. “I think for a long time, we had a sense that Fitz and Simmons would be sort of out of S.H.I.E.L.D. and living the simpler life — while secretly working with Daisy on the side,” said Whedon. (Read much more on that happiest of endings.) MAY is an (exhausted!) instructor at a S.H.I.E.L.D. academy that is named after no less than the late Agent Phil Coulson; FLINT is among her cadets. “I think it made perfect sense to us that May would be a teacher at Coulson Academy. Like, all of that just sums up her relationship with Coulson [and her as] the reluctant teacher,” said Tancharoen. “She has always been the wise teacher amongst the group, the sort of mother figure, and also to put her with Coy (Stewart, who plays Flint) at the end there and knowing that she is helping to foster the lives of all these potential agents…. That made beautiful sense to us.” COULSON is still his LMD/Chronicom hybrid self, mulling a sabbatical while having an open invitation from May to come spin some yarns for the kiddos at the Academy. Fittingly, in a callback to the ending of the ABC series’ very first episode, he has just gotten his “Lola” back (thanks to Mack, forever the mechanic), which he pilots up, up and away before things fade to black. “The one thing we talked a little bit about was leaving Deke behind,” conceded EP Jeff Bell, “but having him make what was truly a big sacrifice… makes sense.” Plus, the producers love the idea of a rock star moonlighting with a spy organization (or vice versa). “If we were ever to come back for another [series], it would be that show,” Whedon quipped. Considered all together, the S.H.I.E.L.D. EPs hope the decisions that were made resonate with longtime viewers as strongly as they did with the writers. “Seven seasons is a long time to be working on the show, to be invested in these characters, to be living in this story as well as in the production aspect of things, and in our relationships with each other, the writers, the actors and everybody involved in the show,” Tancharoen observed. “The emotional context of saying goodbye to this experience…is definitely something that’s reflected in where we leave our characters at the end of the show. So it is very personal to us, and I do think there’s a sense of hope for what’s to come for each of them.” And as Mack himself noted — and to drive home the theme of the show, the finale, and what the agents were ultimately fighting for — S.H.I.E.L.D. was a family. Following the one-year time jump, “They’re already established in their new lives, but no matter, there’s still longing for what was, and I think that will always be there,” said Tancharoen. “That bond between them will always be there. So, hopefully, that sort of hits home at the end for [everyone].” CBS’ S.W.A.T. team this Wednesday raced to find former unit leader Buck after he fell conspicuously off the grid and they came to realize he planned to harm himself. As that manhunt played out in flashback, we saw each team member discuss with a counselor the mental and emotional difficulties inherent to their line of work, all the while never quite disclosing Buck’s ultimate fate. Midway through the hour, Buck (played by Louis Ferreira ) was tracked down via telephone — alive, at a diner, but unwilling to hear out Hondo (Shemar Moore) and put off what he intended to do. Deacon (Jay Harrington), luckily, found his longtime friend and colleague seated by a river bed, handgun at his side. And though Buck seemed quite resigned to end his life, Deacon’s words, as well as those from his successor Hondo and protege Jason Street (Alex Russell), eventually convinced him not to — if only because of the immense sense of loss he would leave friends and family with. S.W.A.T. showrunner Shawn Ryan, of course, broached this topic during his time on The Shield, where — no spoilers, for anyone mid-quarantine binge — suicide ended the lives of at least two characters. “I don’t know that we did the research on The Shield that we did on S.W.A.T.,” Ryan shares with TVLine. “Those were stories that we sort of approached from a plot standpoint, but in this case, it really stems from the research we did. For example, I was stunned to learn, as we say in the episode, that more officers die by their own hand than in the line of duty. And I’ve always been fascinated, going back to The Unit, by this mental price that first responders — whether they are in the military or in law enforcement — pay, and the anguish they go through, to do the jobs we expect them to do, to keep us safe.” Ryan says that S.W.A.T. as a rule affords itself extra prep time “to do things like big stunts, or find big locations that are hard to get” — or, this case, to study a topic like police depression and suicide. To that end, he tasked writer Ryan Keleher to “find out who the right people are to talk to, talk to everyone you need to talk to, and then let’s find out the best way to tell the story.” As for the tactic that Deacon, Hondo and Street employ to eventually save Buck’s life — essentially making it about them, and the deep loss they would have to live with — Ryan says, “A lot of time these people are feeling so alone and isolated they’re not acknowledging the importance they have in other people’s lives.” Ryan cites The Bridge, a 2006 documentary about people who have leaped off the Golden Gate Bridge. Among the small percentage who wind up surviving the jump, some have said “almost immediately there was instant regret. Like, ‘I don’t really want to die.’ So the officers talking to Buck really put the emphasis on what this act would do to them and their loved ones, because a lot of people who are in crisis are only considering their own pain.” “The Hondo stuff from the pilot, I told the writers I’m never going to let that go,” Deacon’s portrayer, Jay Harrington, tells TVLine. “He took my job — I get to have that. So when we had an episode where I was talking a guy out of shooting himself, and I said, ‘I may or may not have once had a gun to my face as well,’ I pushed for that, and I was glad that they did that as a bit of an Easter egg we could get to someday. And sure enough, here we are.” How did Harrington get himself to such a place of pure vulnerability? “I tapped into some personal stuff that I’ve gone through,” he shares. “Before S.W.A.T., I hadn’t worked really in a couple of years. Things were tough out there. And I was getting married, bringing someone else into the mix for the first time. [As an actor] there are times when it’s feast or famine, and when it’s famine and you’re by yourself, you’re like, ‘I’ll get by.’ But bringing someone else in… there are pressures that come with that.” “When we were shooting it, I didn’t know I was going to get emotional, because that’s a tough thing to do, especially time after time after time, take after take…,” Harrington continues. “I just wanted to bring the reality of what we worked on for the Deacon character all these years.” On a far lighter note, Harrington suggests that in talking to the camera for that first-person reveal, “I was tapping into [his two-season comedy] Better Off Ted, where I would speak right to the fourth wall and break it!” Moving forward, Harrington says that Deacon’s commitment to ongoing therapy will not go without further mention. “We have an episode coming up where a uniformed officer on a scene loses a partner, and I sort of take her aside, saying, ‘There are people you can talk to.’ The way they had written it was, ‘I’ve talked to her, and she’s helped me,’ but I asked, ‘Can we change the tense? Can it be, ‘I think I’m getting better’? ‘I think it’s helping me’? Because I didn’t want it to be tied up in a bow.” Deacon taking that step, Ryan says, represented “one of the main goals with this episode — to show that it takes real strength and courage to say, ‘This is how I’m feeling, this is what I’m contemplating, and I need help.’ You wouldn’t have a problem saying, ‘I have cancer and I need a doctor’s help.’ Your brain is part of your body, and it is something that needs attention just the same.” If you’re thinking about suicide, are worried about a friend or loved one, or would like emotional support, call the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline’s toll-free number: 1-800-273-TALK (8255) RELATED STORIES
DAISY is still with S.H.I.E.L.D., working aboard Zephyr 3 as an “astral ambassador” (as her typewriter-loving “dork”of a partner puts it). SOUSA (whom she brought up to speed on alien life with an E.T. screening) and her sister KORA are at her side. “In terms of space, we loved that feeling — especially as our budget constraints became a concern — that it feels vast, and we wanted someone to be out exploring that,” Whedon explained. “It felt right to put her in there, in command of the Zephyr.”
One agent who did not make it to back to the original timeline was Deke; instead, FitzSimmons’ oneday grandson volunteered to stay behind in the 1980s to 1) set off the gizmo needed to propel the others into the timeline-graversing quantum realm, 2) take a leadership role in that era’s S.H.I.E.L.D. and 3), you know, be the rock god that he is.

Though Buck will live to see another day, the somber episode was not done serving up stark realities. Because at the very end of the hour, during his one-on-one session with the counselor, Deacon confided, and broke down emotionally in the process, that he similarly has thought about ending it all, specifically at the time last season that his family was in dire financial straits. And with the fact that Hondo was given command of S.W.A.T., instead of him, forever on his brain.

After Sunday’s Madam Secretary, it’s never been more clear that Elizabeth McCord is the kind of person who’d make a great United States president. She’s just got to get out of jail first.
Yep, the Secretary of State wound up under arrest at the end of the CBS drama’s fall finale, which also happened to be its 100th episode. The cause? Touring an Arizona detention center for children separated from their families during illegal border crossings — a visit expressly forbidden by the state’s ultra-conservative governor, who deemed Elizabeth’s presence “trespassing.” The facility’s mere existence horrified President Dalton’s entire team, but seeing it firsthand galvanized Elizabeth to speak out even more strongly than normal in favor of acting in favor of humanity, even when it might contradict the law.
“What I saw was an affront to decency and an assault on our country’s core values. Children separated from their parents, in cages. Crying. Terrified. Lacking basic care,” she told reporters outside the building, a final note of defiance that sealed her fate. “No deterrent is worth trading our humanity. No policy, no matter its goal, is worth lowering our moral standing in the world. Nothing can justify harming children. Now the governor wants me to shut up, but I won’t, because what he’s doing is immoral and un-American, and every American needs to know about it.”
By the end of the hour, Elizabeth was in handcuffs and her wedding vow-renewal ceremony — which she and Henry had been planning for some time — was in the lurch. Read on as executive producers Barbara Hall and Lori McCreary tell TVLine why the show’s milestone hour was the time to take on separation at the American border and why Elizabeth’s time behind bars might not be as brief as you’d think.
TVLINE | Correct me if I’m wrong, but it seems like perhaps the distance between real life and the world of Madam Secretary gets a little shorter in this episode than it normally is. Would you say that’s accurate?
BARBARA HALL | Yeah, it’s one of the things where it’s such a prominent part of our lives these days, this issue, and not having this in our world made Madam Secretary begin to feel a little out of step or almost like a period piece. We had to find a way to bring this issue into our world, so we could make our show remain current. That’s one reason we wanted to take it on.
TVLINE | The situation — children being taken from their parents and placed in these detention centers — is a brutal thing. Talk to me about how you decided to dramatize it the way you did.
HALL | We decided to dramatize it in a way that would give people more insight into the process. But the reality of this world — you know, we weren’t allowed really to see inside these detention camps, just sneak, sort of a peek inside —and so we wanted to do our research and figure out what it’s really like and then take people in there. In reality, senators and congressmen requested access to these detentions centers and were denied it, so we wanted to take that scenario and allow our Secretary of State in, treating it as a foreign policy problem.
TVLINE | Elizabeth is taken into custody after her speech outside the detention center. What can you tease about what her experience is like as we move on from that point?
HALL | You’re going to see her being taken to jail and having her take the process through the court.
TVLINE | So this is not one of those things where in the beginning of the next episode someone steps in and makes a call, and she’s back in her office in the next five minutes?
HALL | No.
LORI MCCREARY | Well, as you can imagine, if that did happen, Elizabeth would not go for it. [Laughs]
TVLINE | Let’s talk about Sen. Morejon, whom Elizabeth thinks can be swayed on the family-separation issue. And it seems in the episode like he could be. Where is his head at as we move into Part 2?
HALL | We’ve always tried to paint him as a character who has very conservative politics for sure and a lot of self-interest, but he’s not entirely impervious to wanting to do the right thing. On some levels, he’s a true believer of his own ideology, so there are times when he could reach common ground with Elizabeth and people in the Dalton administration.
MCCREARY | That’s one of the things we tried to do with our characters: Even if they have drastically different, completely opposing views on what should happen in politics, they’re adults enough to sit down and figure out some way to make a win-win out of things.
TVLINE | This is by no means the most important aspect of the episode, but will we see the vow renewal?
HALL | It’s in real jeopardy, because of what’s going on with Elizabeth. So you really will have to tune in.
MCCREARY | And they want to do it at that particular time.
HALL | Yeah, there’s another clock on it.
TVLINE | Daniel, the boy that we meet crossing the border with his mother at the start of Part 1: Will we see where his story goes in Part 2?
HALL | Yes, we’ll continue to follow him in Part 2.
TVLINE | There’s been so much reporting about how this type of separation, even if it doesn’t last for a long time, can affect these children for life. Will the show touch on that at all, the idea that even if there’s a happy ending, these kids are not necessarily going to be OK?
HALL | That will be inherent in the story. I hope that people will feel that as it’s dramatized.
MCCREARY | You’ll see part of that in Sara Ramirez’s character, Kat, because she has some parallel issues going with her own family.

“She’s looking forward to sitting down with the president and talking him through the white paper,” the spokesman for UK Prime Minister Theresa May told Reuters on Friday when asked about US President Donald Trump’s threats he made in an interview with the Sun newspaper.
The interview, published on Thursday, revolves around May’s post-Brexit negotiations with Brussels, in which she is said to seek to keep the customs borders open with the EU by sticking to common rules on goods and agricultural products. In the interview, Trump pledged to walk away from a major US-UK trade deal and launched a personal assault on May.
“If they do a deal like that, we would be dealing with the European Union instead of dealing with the UK, so it will probably kill the deal,” the president warned. “If they do that, then their trade deal with the US will probably not be made.”
On the topic of May’s EU exit negotiations, Trump claimed she ignored his advice on how to conduct the Brexit talks. “I would have done it much differently. I actually told Theresa May how to do it but she didn’t agree, she didn’t listen to me.”
Trump went as far as to question whether May’s Brexit plan actually reflects the main idea of the 2016 referendum result: “The deal she is striking [with the EU] is a much different deal than the one the people voted on. It was not the deal that was in the referendum… So a lot of people don’t like it.”
Trump, however, called her “a very good person,” and dismissed a Washington Post report that he regards the prime minister as “a bossy schoolteacher.”
“No, no, no, no. I never said anything bad about her,” Trump said. “That is fake news. I think she is a nice person. I get along with her very nicely. The Washington Post is totally fake. They are just a lobbyist for Amazon.”
Speaking at a press conference on Thursday during the tense NATO summit, Trump cast doubt again on May’s post-Brexit tactics. Downing Street was quick to respond: “We are having good discussions with countries we would aim to sign trade deals with, including the US, as I will discuss with President Trump when he arrives in the UK on Thursday.
“Only our Brexit deal for Britain truly respects the will of the British people. And, as Prime Minister, it is the Brexit I am determined to deliver,” the statement said.

Washington and Pyongyang have agreed to establish working groups that would handle the most pressing issues on the bilateral agenda, in particular, the course of North Korea’s de-nuclearization efforts, State Department spokesperson Heather Nauert said in a statement Friday. She said the groups’ work will be focused on “nitty gritty stuff,” without providing any specific details. The announcement came after US State Secretary Mike Pompeo held high-level talks with Kim Yong Chol, vice chairman of North Korea’s ruling Workers’ Party Central Committee, in Pyongyang. The officials discussed a range of issues, including the return of the remains of US troops killed in the Korean War.

Living with a mental illness is never easy. It can be hard at times to even understand your own mind, let alone have to explain it to someone else. But once you begin dating someone seriously, it’s beneficial to both of you if they begin to learn more about you and how your mind operates.
But it can be difficult to know where to start and when to talk about it. Bring it up too soon and you could overwhelm someone; wait too long and it could begin to feel like a massive secret you’re hiding from them. See the rest of the story at Business Insider

Russia and Rwanda have good cooperation in the military-technical sphere, and Russian-developed vehicles in service in the country’s army may soon get new additions, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said on Sunday. “The supplies of air-defense systems are currently being discussed,” the top Russian diplomat said during a press briefing with his Rwandan counterpart Louise Mushikiwabo. The two countries are also ready to cooperate in relation to the peaceful use of nuclear energy, with Lavrov calling for the transformation of the agreements “into concrete steps” in the area.
