For the first time, Apple is letting you customize the typeface and accent color of on-screen elements like the date and time. Moreover, you can finally add widgets. As of today, there are a handful of ones from Apple to choose from, but in the coming days and weeks, you can expect most app developers, including Google, to add their own ones.

On Monday, Google detailed what Search, Chrome, Drive, Maps, Gmail and News users can expect once those apps support iOS lock screen widgets. For the most part, there aren’t many surprises here. The majority of the apps will come with several different widgets, allowing you to access some features with one tap. For instance, Chrome widgets include shortcuts to the browser’s incognito mode and voice search functionality. There’s even a separate widget for Chrome’s dinosaur game in case you find yourself without an internet connection and need something to pass the time.

The best part is that you won’t need to go out of your way to download anything. “Once our widgets are available, just press and hold down your Lock Screen to start customizing,” says Google. You can expect them to arrive in the “coming weeks,” according to the company.

San Diego Comic-Con is nearly upon us, and that means it’s almost time for an onslaught of updates and announcements about some of your most anticipated movies and TV shows. But that also means there are tons of goodies that are about to go on sale for rabid collectors to get their hands on, and Mondo has plenty of good stuff to offer.

Mondo sent us the exclusive debut of their outstanding San Diego Comic-Con exclusive prints for Jurassic Park and Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom. Plus, we have a first look at their upcoming assortment of Jurassic Park tiki mugs that you won’t have to wait in line for at Comic-Con. This Mondo Jurassic Park poster by Phantom City Creative will debut at San Diego Comic-Con, but you’ll also be able to get our hands on one of the above 24×36 prints from the Mondo online store. The one on the left is the regular version (with an edition size of 325) and will go on sale for $ 50 on Mondo’s website as soon as the $ 75 variant edition (on the right with an edition of 175) goes on sale at Mondo’s Comic-Con booth (#435).

Another San Diego Comic-Con exclusive will be this Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom poster created by artist Mike Saputo. It’s a 24×36 screen print with an edition size of 325, and it will cost $ 50. This one will only be available at Mondo’s Comic-Con booth, but if there are any left over after the convention is over, they’ll go on sale online at a later date.

Finally, if collectible prints aren’t your jam, but tiki mugs are, Mondo has you covered. They’ll be showing off their new Jurassic Park tiki mugs that will be on sale sometime in the future. The above image is the 16 oz. velociraptor egg tiki mug, which will be available this fall in various glaze colors shown above.

There’s also a tyrannosaurus rex tiki mug on the way too, though no images have been released yet. If you’re at Comic-Con, it will be on display at Mondo’s booth with the raptor tiki mugs. We’ll try to grab an image of the mug from the show floor so you can see it for yourself.

Stop me if you’ve heard this before: The makers of a huge multi-platform game want to unite their disparate users so everyone can play together, regardless of whether they’re playing on PC, PlayStation 4 or Xbox One, and Sony is blocking that. This time, it’s Ark: Survival Evolved. Lead designer was answering questions on Twitter recently and when someone asked if cross-network play would ever happen, he replied with the following. “We have it working internally, but currently Sony won’t allow it.”

If you’re keeping track at home, this is the third time we’ve heard that. The first time was with Minecraft back in June, then came Rocket League. At E3, Rocket League developer Jeremy Dunham said that someone from his studio had been in contact with Sony every day since the game launched, and the answer about cross-platform play never changed. Psyonix too, has cross-network play up and running in its offices.

“There have been slight variations on how it’s been presented to us, but essentially it’s the same answer,” Dunham told Engadget. “It’s ‘not right now” or ‘It’s something we’ll consider.’ That’s paraphrasing, but there hasn’t been any movement.”

With this news about Ark, it sounds like it’s that way for everyone who asks.

When your fancy high-tech tools aren’t suited for the job, it’s time to call the tinkers. The Field Museum of Natural History had a certain famous Tyrannosaurus rex skull they wanted examined with 3D imaging systems, but their dental scanners couldn’t fit around the dinosaur’s massive jaw. They contacted MIT Media Lab’s Camera Culture group, which scanned the whole five-foot fossil with a $ 150 makeshift setup featuring a Microsoft Kinect.

While the Kinect’s resolution tops out at 500 micrometers, it only costs $ 100, compared to thousands of dollars for high-end 3D imaging systems that get down to 50 or 100 micrometers. Still, it was precise enough to scan the skull so scientists can look closer at mysterious holes in the jaw.

There’s an easy joke here about using a dinosaur to scan a dinosaur: After reactive outcry following some of Microsoft’s Kinect ambitions when the Xbox One launched back in 2013, the gaming titan has slowly shut down the motion-capture camera system. Heck, after only two third-party Kinect-playable games came out in 2016, the developer of one of them (the brilliant Fru) told Engadget at this year’s E3 that we shouldn’t expect many more games to use the peripheral.

Which is a shame, given how versatile it is: From Nine Inch Nails shows to trying on clothes, artists and technologists have found novel uses for the aging device. But outside hacker spaces, the camera attachment that once came standard with every Xbox sold rarely appears, except occasionally playing second fiddle to today’s sexy tech, VR.

We know Ferrari is thinking about bringing back the Dino. This might be it. Or not.

Spy shooters snapped this prototype during winter testing in Sweden, sparking speculation the long-hoped for Dino could return. Witnesses said the mule didn’t sound like it had a V8, suggesting the 2.9-liter V6 turbo developed by Ferrari for the Alfa Romeo Giulia was instead providing power.

Fiat Chrysler chief Sergio Marchionne said back in 2015: “It’s a when not an if. We know that it [Dino] is an under-used resource, but that’s why we need to get it right.” He also suggested a 500-hp V6 would be the right fit for a new Dino. That Alfa engine makes 505 ponies in the Giulia’s Quadrifoglio trim

But those comments are nearly two years old, when Ferrari was owned by Fiat Chrysler. Ferrari was spun off in the fall of 2015, though Marchionne remains head of the supercar maker in addition to leading FCA.

But what are we actually looking at here? There’s bits of both the 488 GTB and its predecessor, the 458 Italia, Frankensteined together onto the prototype. There are huge tailgun exhausts in back. The car is testing on a snowy road. Could in fact Ferrari be shaking down an all-wheel-drive 488 variant? A high performance version?

On the other hand, the Dino was a mid-engine car, and the similar layout of the 458/488 line makes for a fitting testbed. Perhaps Ferrari is using that body style to conceal the identity of an all-new project like the Dino. Or perhaps…
