Andy Muschietti directed last year’s adaptation of Stephen King’s It, but Muschietti is no clown. He’s been able to parlay that movie’s record-breaking success into multiple new directing gigs, and now he’s lined up a brand new one: he’ll direct a new adaptation of H.G. Wells‘ classic time travel novella The Time Machine, and Leonardo DiCaprio is on board as a producer.

This project is so hot that competing studios have decided to temporarily put aside their differences and work together to bring it to life. Find out more about the newest The Time Machine movie below.

Deadline brings word about the new adaptation, revealing that Andy Muschietti and Barbara Muschietti (Andy’s sister and producing partner) developed a treatment for the film, but there’s no word on if they’ll bring on another writer to flesh it out or if they’ll tackle writing duties themselves. Barbara will produce along with DiCaprio and Jennifer Davisson, who runs DiCaprio’s Appian Way Productions. Arnold Leibovit, who executive produced the 2002 movie version, will remain on board as an executive producer here.

Published in 1895, Wells’ The Time Machine coined the title phrase and popularized the idea of time travel for an entire generation. It tells the story of a time traveler who visits the year 802,701, where he encounters two major post-human races that occupy the Earth. As the protagonist attempts to understand this new society, Wells inserts several bits of social commentary, and the result was a sci-fi story that was hugely influential for its time. It’s been adapted into several different mediums, and below you can watch the trailer for the 2002 film version (which was directed by Wells’ great-grandson):

Though he hasn’t tackled anything that’s explicitly science fiction yet, Muschietti may be a good fit for a project like this because he’s someone who’s interested in unnerving material. I can easily see his take on this being a bit more twisted than the original, and I’m sure he’ll relish the idea of perfecting the designs of the fictional Eloi and Morlock races.

Warner Bros. is “leading the charge” on this adaptation, according to Deadline, but WB is teaming with Appian Way and Paramount Pictures to make this film a reality. WB and Paramount united for Christopher Nolan’s Interstellar a few years ago, with Paramount distributing in North America and WB distributing in the remaining territories, so perhaps a similar arrangement will be found this time.

Time travel must be en vogue at the moment, because a TV adaptation of The Time Machine went into development earlier this year. I can’t begin to fathom why anyone would ever consider leaving 2018 and traveling to a different time period because things are just so great all around right now, but to each his own.

It was one of the most horrifying events in Hollywood history.

When Charles Manson and members of his cult killed Sharon Tate, the wife of Roman Polanski, and others at their Hollywood home, it send shockwaves through Lala Land.

Taratino’s new movie will explore the hedonistic last days of the 1960s and he has made no secret of which A-list beauty he wants to play the tragic leading lady.

After months of talk, Robbie is set to sign up and “now has the offer and negotiations are underway.”

Deadline reported: “Quentin Tarantino had met with Margot Robbie and asked her to play Sharon Tate in his next film. She now has the offer and negotiations are underway to make it a reality.”

This would reunite Robbie with her Wolf of Wall Street co-star Leonardo DiCaprio once more.

The film will be called Once Upon A Time In Hollywood and is a passion project for the director, although Tarantino has already been accused of trying to sensationalise and profit from the terrible Manson killing spree.

Instead, he has explained that his movie is not directly about the murders which hit headlines across the world.

Tarantino told The Hollywood Reporter: “[It’s] a story that takes place in Los Angeles in 1969, at the height of hippy Hollywood.

The two lead characters are Rick Dalton (Leonardo DiCaprio), former star of a Western TV series, and his longtime stunt double Cliff Booth (Brad Pitt). Both are struggling to make it in a Hollywood they don’t recognise anymore. But Rick has a very famous next-door neighbour…Sharon Tate.”

Once Upon A Time In Hollywood will be released on August 9, 2019.

The iconic director’s ninth film has been in the works over the last year and now has its big stars confirmed.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Tarantino announced the film will be called Once Upon A Time In Hollywood.

The 54-year-old said: “[It’s] a story that takes place in Los Angeles in 1969, at the height of hippy Hollywood.

“The two lead characters are Rick Dalton (Leonardo DiCaprio), former star of a Western TV series, and his longtime stunt double Cliff Booth (Brad Pitt).”

He continued: “Both are struggling to make it in a Hollywood they don’t recognise anymore. 

“But Rick has a very famous next-door neighbour…Sharon Tate.”

Margot Robbie has been asked by Tarantino to play the late actress, who was murdered while pregnant by the Manson family.

Tarantino added: “I’ve been working on this script for five years, as well as living in Los Angeles County most of my life, including in 1969, when I was seven years old.

“I’m very excited to tell this story of an LA and a Hollywood that don’t exist anymore. And I couldn’t be happier about the dynamic teaming of DiCaprio & Pitt as Rick & Cliff.”

The film’s title is an obvious reference to Sergio Leone’s Once Upon a Time in the West, so presumably Tarantino fans will see his usual Western tropes, as used in Kill Bill and Inglourious Basterds.

Once Upon A Time In Hollywood will be released on August 9, 2019.

Leonardo DiCaprio is notoriously picky about which projects he tackles as an actor. He hasn’t made a film since finally winning an Oscar for Best Actor in The Revenant, but he’s on board Quentin Tarantino’s developing movie about the Manson Family murders, which is supposed to be his next project. After that, it sounds like he’ll tackle the story of the man who inspired his namesake.

Paramount Pictures has Leonardo DiCaprio lined up to star in an adaptation of Walter Isaacson‘s biography Leonardo da Vinci, about the painter behind the famous “Mona Lisa” and “Last Supper” works who was also known for being a budding inventor, a scholar of anatomy, botany, geology and much more. The studio has also hired a writer who has already worked with DiCaprio on a biographical feature before.

Deadline reports Paramount has hired John Logan (Skyfall, Hugo) to write the Leonardo da Vinci movie as a star vehicle for Leonardo DiCaprio, who previously starred in the Logan-penned Howard Hughes biopic The Aviator. The project has a special place in DiCaprio’s heart because he was given his name because his mother was admiring a da Vinci painting in an Italian museum when she felt him kick for the first time.

Walter Isaacson, who also wrote the biography on which Aaron Sorkin based his Steve Jobs script, used da Vinci’s notebooks to create a story that weaves through all of his experiences in art and science. Here’s how the book is described on Amazon:

Based on thousands of pages from Leonardo’s astonishing notebooks and new discoveries about his life and work, Walter Isaacson weaves a narrative that connects his art to his science. He shows how Leonardo’s genius was based on skills we can improve in ourselves, such as passionate curiosity, careful observation, and an imagination so playful that it flirted with fantasy.

He produced the two most famous paintings in history, The Last Supper and the Mona Lisa. But in his own mind, he was just as much a man of science and technology. With a passion that sometimes became obsessive, he pursued innovative studies of anatomy, fossils, birds, the heart, flying machines, botany, geology, and weaponry. His ability to stand at the crossroads of the humanities and the sciences, made iconic by his drawing of Vitruvian Man, made him history’s most creative genius.

Da Vinci’s life is undoubtedly a colorful one, and it should make for a compelling story, especially with Leonardo DiCaprio in the lead. The actor hasn’t played a character ingrained this far in the past since The Man in the Iron Mask from early in his career. He’ll also be producing the film with Jennifer Davisson through their Appian Way production banner.

It’s not clear when this Leonardo da Vinci movie might get off the ground, but Logan will be writing it while DiCaprio goes off to make Quentin Tarantino’s next movie, so it could be his next project after that. There’s also a Teddy Roosevelt film in the works that would reunite DiCaprio with Martin Scorsese, so we’ll see what happens.

Quentin Tarantino has found his lead for his highly-anticipated Mansion Family movie: Leonardo DiCaprio. DiCaprio will reunite with his Django Unchained director for a film set in 1969 against the backdrop of the Manson Family murder of actress Sharon Tate and several other people at her home in Los Angeles. When it comes to casting Quentin Tarantino’s currently-untitled Manson Family film, names that have been thrown around included Tom Cruise, Brad Pitt, and Leonardo DiCaprio. Now it looks like DiCaprio is the first official actor to board the film. Deadline reports that DiCaprio has signed to star in Tarantino’s ninth film, which is set in 1969 and involves the Manson Family murders.

Per Vanity Fair, the story, set in Los Angeles in the summer of 1969, “focuses on a male TV actor who’s had one hit series and his looking for a way to get into the film business. His sidekick — who’s also his stunt double — is looking for the same thing. The horrific murder of Sharon Tate and four of her friends by Charles Manson’s cult of followers serves as a backdrop to the main story.” Deadline reports that DiCaprio is going to be playing the male TV actor (so, sorry everyone who immediately assumed DiCaprio would be playing Charles Manson).

Tarantino has asked Margot Robbie to play slain actress Sharon Tate in the film, but Robbie’s casting isn’t final yet. The film set off a bidding war after Tarantino parted ways with long-time producers The Weinstein Company following the sexual assault allegations against Harvey Weinstein, with several studios clammoring to get their hands on Tarantino’s script. Warner Bros. went so far as to deck out the studio lot with cars from the 1960s when Tarantino came in for a meeting, and outfitted a conference room with “vintage furniture from the era and mock posters for the movie.” After all that, however, Tarantino signed with Sony.

Not only with this film reunite Tarantino and DiCaprio, it will also be DiCaprio’s first role since winning the Oscar for getting eaten by a cartoon bear in The Revenant. Tarantino is still looking for the second male lead for the film, which means both Cruise and Pitt might still be an option, if a deal can be worked out. After this film, Tarantino next plans to helm an R-rated Star Trek movie, a fact we’re all still having a hard time believing.

The heartbreaking moment in the Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet starring movie, directed by James Cameron, is one of the most often parodied moments in an otherwise iconic blockbuster.

Now, science pro Neil DeGrasse Tyson has pointed out another obvious problem with the whole thing – and it comes down to one very important character trait.

Winslet recently spoke of her bond with DiCaprio, saying they have been able to remain such firm friends over the years because they never at any point had any attraction to each-other.

She will soon reunite with Cameron on the Avatar sequels, which are now in production.

Peanut butter and jelly. Fish and chips. Scorsese and DiCaprio. These things just go well together. Now, Martin Scorsese and Leonardo DiCaprio are getting ready to team-up again for a new film, one tackling the life of Theodore Roosevelt. Scorsese and DiCaprio have a few projects gestating. One is an adaptation of the true crime tale The Devil in the White City; the other is another true crime thriller, Killers of the Flower Moon. And then there’s this: a film tackling the life of adventurer and president Theodore Roosevelt. Scorsese and DiCaprio have actually been developing this project for a while now, and the project was previously announced as abandoned in 2013.

Now it’s back on, according to the Tracking Board. The Tracking Board announcement doesn’t confirm if this is still the case, but when Scorsese and DiCaprio were originally developing a Roosevelt project, it was going to be an adaptation of Edmund Morris’ book The Rise of Theodore Roosevelt, which tracked Roosevelt’s birth through his ascendancy to the Presidency.

Roosevelt was 42 when he was elected president, which is also DiCaprio’s age now, which may explain why the actor is suddenly interested in playing the part. DiCaprio hasn’t signed on to a film since winning his much coveted Best Actor Academy Award for The Revenant. Scorsese has made five feature films with DiCaprio, and is responsible for directing the actor in the best performance of his career in The Wolf of Wall Street (that’s right, I said it, don’t @ me).

Scorsese Might Direct New Bob Dylan Documentary

As for Scorsese, the 74-year-old director shows no signs of slowing down. He’s currently in production on the highly anticipated The Irishman, and he’s also planning a new documentary on Bob Dylan. Scorsese already helmed the Dylan doc No Direction Home, which traced Dylan’s career from folk to rock. This latest documentary, according to The Playlist, will focus on Dylan’s Rolling Thunder Revue, a series of shows Dylan played with played in 1975 and 1976 with a cavalcade of other stars, including  Joan Baez, Roger McGuinn, Ramblin’ Jack Elliott, T-Bone Burnett, Mick Ronson, David Mansfield, and Steven Soles. Other than Bob Dylan’s controversial 1965 and 1966 tours, when he first made the transition into highly amplified electric music on stage, no Dylan tour is more highly regarded than the initial leg of his legendary Rolling Thunder Review Tour at the tail end of 1975…Beginning with two consecutive nights in Plymouth, Massachusetts, Dylan would deliver some of the most memorable stage performances of his career on this tour, and although the program would continue to expand in length as the tour progressed, the raw energy and spontaneity of the earliest dates on the tour cannot be denied.

Warner Bros.’ approach to an upcoming origin film for The Joker looks like it could be moving in a promising direction. 

Sources tell The Hollywood Reporter that the studio will “make an ambitious attempt” to bring in Leonardo DiCaprio as the film’s star.

Martin Scorsese, a longtime DiCaprio collaborator, was reported to be joining the movie as a producer last month, and the outlet’s sources say that the studio will try to lure DiCaprio “into the world of comic-book movies” through Scorsese.

The report notes, however, that no offer has been made for DiCaprio at this time, and according to their sources, Scorsese isn’t even finalized yet. 

According to the initial scoop from Deadline, Todd Phillips (“The Hangover”) will be directing the film, cowriting the script with Scott Silver (“8 Mile”), and producing alongside Scorsese.

The Joker origin movie will be the first title in a spin-off of Warner Bros.’ DC Comics Extended Universe that will delve deeper into the DC catalog to focus on iconic characters. 

Jared Leto, who starred as The Joker in 2016’s “Suicide Squad,” will not be playing the character in Phillips and Scorsese’s film. THR’s sources say that Leto was “caught off-guard” by the plans for a separate Joker movie, and that he “made his displeasure” known to his agents.

The news of Warner Bros. Pictures and DC Entertainment planning a spin-off focusing on the origin of The Joker outside of the continuity of the DC Extended Universe where Justice League takes place was crazy enough. But it was made all the more wild by the fact that it was going to be directed by Todd Phillips with none other than cinema legend Martin Scorsese producing. It turns out the involvement of the latter may be part of a larger plan that the studio has to land a certain big name for the lead role as the Clown Prince of Crime.

Word on the streets of Gotham City is that Warner Bros. is hoping that Martin Scorsese’s involvement will allow them to reel in Oscar winner Leonardo DiCaprio to play The Joker, finally bringing him into the word of comic book movies.

News of the possibility of seeing Leonardo DiCaprio as The Joker comes from The Hollywood Reporter, but this is far from a done deal. In fact, there’s not even an offer out to DiCaprio yet, so there isn’t even any negotiations going on. The trade has simply heard that the studio will make a big effort to land DiCaprio for the role by way of his frequent collaborator.

It’s not a bad plan considering DiCaprio and Scorsese’s extensive work together: Gangs of New York, The Aviator, The Departed, Shutter Island and The Wolf of Wall Street. But there’s a snag. As of now, Martin Scorsese’s deal to produce The Joker origin movie isn’t closed yet. So there’s a chance that he may not end up being involved. If that’s the case, that would probably make it more difficult to land Leonardo DiCaprio.

But even if Scorsese does close a deal to produce, there’s still no guarantee that DiCaprio would want to take on a role like this. DiCaprio is quite picky when it comes to the roles he chooses, and he’s traditionally stayed away from major studio blockbusters. The closest he’s come in recent years would be The Great Gatsby and Inception, but both of those had the involvement of big deal directors like Baz Luhrmann and Christopher Nolan to sweeten those deals. Playing a comic book character, even if it’s The Joker, just might not be his cup of tea.

What this does show us is that Warner Bros. Pictures sees this as something that can go against the grain of comic book movies. When the report initially surfaced, The Joker origin movie was said to be a 1980s-set gangster thriller along the lines of Martin Scorsese’s older films like Taxi Driver, Goodfellas or Mean Streets. Our own Peter Sciretta has heard the studio even hopes for this to be a prestige, awards-level movie rather than the usual superhero blockbuster fare. Leonardo DiCaprio could certainly make the movie more interesting, even if at 43 years old he seems a little too old for an origin story about the villain.

If you’re still not into the idea of a Joker origin movie, even with Leonardo DiCaprio involved, you’re not the only one. Along with the dissatisfaction expressed online by fans (including our own Josh Spiegel), apparently Suicide Squad star Jared Leto isn’t happy about this development. Supposedly, the actor has expressed displeasure at the idea of multiple actors playing different versions of The Joker to his agents.

Since this Joker origin spin-off is meant to be the first in a new banner of standalone spin-offs outside of the DC Extended Universe that will be a little less traditional when it comes to comic book movies, the studio surely wants to make sure they get it right. But at this point, it sounds more like a pipe dream than anything.

As for other candidates who could play The Joker, we came up with our own list of younger possibilities. But we’ll just have to wait and see who Warner Bros. tries to line up for the role.

The British actress, 41, is currently promoting The Mountain Between Us; a romance-disaster film in which she stars alongside Idris Elba.

The two survive a plane crash and find themselves stranded in High Uintas Wilderness amidst perilous weather conditions.

Much of the filming took place in dangerous conditions in Canada, with Winslet telling E!: “I was having Titanic flashbacks… I was probably more of a wuss, if I’m honest.

“This was much harder because we really were at 10,000 feet, we had to look after each-other, and acting in that level of cold…

“You take your gloves off for a second and it takes ten minutes to get the circulation back. It’s difficult working in those conditions.”

Asked if DiCaprio sent her any advice, after he worked in extreme conditions for The Revenant, she said: “We did speak before and he said, ‘you’re crazy – do you know what you’re setting yourself up for?’

“I did send him pics of me in the freezing snow, saying ‘thinking of you’, and he’d send back worried-looking emojis.”

Dermot Mulroney and Beau Bridges also star in The Mountain Between Us, which is due out later this year.
