Sharpen your teeth, because the highly-anticipated anime adaptation of “Chainsaw Man,” Tatsuki Fujimoto’s award-winning and extremely popular manga series of the same name is arriving on Crunchyroll next month. Originally serialized in Shueisha’s Weekly Shōnen Jump, the “Chainsaw Man” anime is directed by Ryū Nakayama (“Fate/Grand Order Absolute Demonic Front: Babylonia,” “The Rising of the Shield Hero”), and tells a bleak and nihilistic story about Denji, a teenage boy living with Pochita, a painfully adorable dog err … chainsaw devil as the two harvest devil corpses to repay the debt of his father. After Denji is betrayed and killed (not a spoiler, it’s the premise of the dang show) he makes a contract with Pochita to be revived as a “Chainsaw Man,” which gives him the ability to spawn chainsaws out of his body, including a horrifying metal head with a chainsaw on top and sharp teeth to help him gnash demons.
The premise sounds like something out of a Clive Barker novel, but would you believe that “Chainsaw Man” is overflowing with some of the most absurdly dark humor? Fans of the manga have been anxiously waiting for the new series, and Crunchyroll is happy to bring it to us.
“With dark humor, dynamic characters and a sharp story, Chainsaw Man is one of the most anticipated new series this year, and we are wickedly excited to bring it to fans on the Crunchyroll service,” said Asa Suehira, Chief Content Officer at Crunchyroll in a press release. “Anime fans will be up all night thinking about the spectacular visuals and high-octane action.”
Crunchyroll will simulcast the series from Japan, available with subtitles or dubbed for more than 200 countries and territories around the world.
The “Chainsaw Man” series comes from Studio MAPPA, who were behind huge hits like “Attack on Titan: The Final Season,” “Yuri!!! On Ice,” and “Jujutsu Kaisen.” It was also announced that the series would have 12 different end credit themes, one for each episode. The above trailer features the opening theme song “KICK BACK” by Kenshi Yonezu, and it’s an absolute banger, especially when paired with the in-your-face action of the series. MAPPA have once again delivered absolutely stunning animation, with the graphic blood and guts of “Chainsaw Man” stylized so wonderfully, you can’t help but scream “AWESOME!” at the screen.
Crunchyroll also released a trailer featuring the English dub, and things are sounding pretty dang good. This shouldn’t be a surprise, as the ADR director is Mike McFarland, who also handled the ADR on “Attack on Titan” and “Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood.” The English dub of “Chainsaw Man” will premiere at New York Comic-Con on Friday, October 7, 2022, so anyone in attendance will be able to snag a sneak peek at the series.
“Chainsaw Man” arrives on October 11, 2022.

One fan wrote: “I Saw on twitter someone matching the cushion she’s leant against to one similar looking one from season 4, when Chloe tells Lucifer to check if his wings are there.
“What I want to know is, what is she wearing! Looks like something a doctor would wear.”
But does this new image show a drastic change of pace for Chloe’s career?
Lucifer season four is available to watch on Netflix.

Lucifer (played by Tom Ellis) is on his way to back to screens in the next few weeks.
And while fans of the show are digging for any information they can get for the next ten episodes, it looks like some fans on Reddit have found some.
Reddit user Martine_V recently pointed out the Twitch channel Gnomon__school began a two hour stream which detailed how they created some of Lucifer’s special effects.
Included in this stream were further details about how Lucifer’s wings are drawn and made real for the show.
It also added a lot of information about Lucifer’s Devil face.
Throughout the stream new details about season four of Lucifer were revealed.
The Reddit user listed what was new, and explained: “Lots of technical but fascinating talk about wings and Lucifer’s devil face.
“Here are some hot off the press spoilers: We will see more than the devil’s face in S4. We will see the devil’s body.
“Also, there will be lots and lots of dialogue delivered while Lucifer is in his devil body. Plus wings!”
If fans are going to see a lot more of Lucifer’s devil form, he most certainly will be going up against some strong foes to use his full power.
And with the brand new enemy of the show Eve (Inbar Lavi) set to take Lucifer’s life by storm, could she be what sparks the reveal of the Devil’s true form?
Recently Maze star Lesley-Ann Brandt spoke to BriefTake about what’s to come in the show.
She explained: “I think that the fans are going to die by the finale.
“I mean the humour is there and it gets a lot cheekier and it gets dark at times, more so than we’ve been allowed to being on a network show before.
“But I’m really excited because it was work which I was very proud of and I am excited for our writers for having included it.
“So I’m excited that they get to finally watch it because you get the full ride of the roller coaster.”
Lesley-Ann also spoke about the new shorter length of the season, saying: “For ten episodes… they’re not waiting for you to catch up at the beginning, they go back to back to back to back.
“So it’s like a double-edged sword, right? Like it’s not extended over weeks, but you get slammed for the full season, which is the way that I like to watch shows, to be honest.”
But will the show change even more with shorter episodes?
Lucifer season four arrives May 8 on Netflix.
From blockbuster releases like Monster Hunter World and Resident Evil 2 Remake, to nostalgia hits like the Beat ‘Em Up Bundle and Mega Man 11, Capcom feels like a company that can do no wrong.
This is a trend that looks certain to continue with the excellent Devil May Cry 5, which has a March 8 release date on PS4, Xbox One and PC.
Devil May Cry 5 features the same razor-sharp action the series is famous for, as the demon-hunting duo of Dante and Nero return with an arsenal of swords, guns and robotic weaponry.
But Devil May Cry 5 also introduces an intriguing new playable character named V, who is described by game director Hideaki Itsuno and producer Matt Walker as the catalyst for the events of the new game, and one of the reasons DMC 5 was developed in the first place.
After slaying a boatload of demons with the enigmatic new character, I’m happy to report that Devil May 5’s newest addition is really V. good!
Equipped with a book of poetry, a cane and three demonic familiars, V isn’t your average Devil May Cry playable character.
He’s not the most nimble fighter, he isn’t a great swordsman and he can’t take much in the way of punishment.
“Upon first glance, he does seem like a pretty complex character,” Itsuno and Walker explain.
“There’s a lot going on with him, because he’s got these familiars, he’s got the book and he has to go in for the last hit. There’s a lot going on there. But, we’ve balanced him to be a pretty powerful character.”
V’s power comes from his ability to summon familiars to do his fighting. And if you keep your distance while mashing the action buttons, you’ll start to see similarities between V and DMC stalwarts like Dante.
Indeed, as Itsuno points out, V’s familiar Shadow is essentially his melee attack, while Griffin is an approximation of his ranged attack. Then there’s his Devil Trigger, which summons a colossal demon called Nightmare to wreak destruction.
“If you’ve played Devil May Cry before, you may recognise these enemies from past games,” Itsuno reveals.
But the biggest difference between V and Dante is that our Devil May Cry newbie carries a book of William Blake poetry into battle!
Poetry readings in a Devil May Cry game? It’s not something we ever expected to see, but it does have an interesting and rather useful upshot.
Itsuno explains more: “What you can do is pull that out and read it at any time, particularly during a battle. The closer you are to the enemy as you’re reading that book, the faster your devil trigger gauge will fill up.
“But, you can only walk while you’re reading that book, so there’s this kind of risk vs reward element to it.”
With fighting familiars, a fondness for poetry and an upgradeable cane used to deliver death blows to dazed enemies, Devil May Cry 5’s new character is V. intriguing, V. unique and really V. good.

If you plan on dressing up as Dante for Halloween, this is the jacket to get. Camcom has announced a new Devil May Cry 5 “Ultra Limited Edition” bundle via its E-Capcom website. The bundle includes a copy of the game — either for Xbox One or PS4 — interchangeable box art, and a life-sized leather replica of Dante’s jacket.
There are three options to choose from. The Jacket for character V is the cheapest, at 600,000 yen, or $ 5,317, with Nero’s jacket coming in at 750,000 yen, or $ 6,646, and finally with Dante’s jacket landing at a whopping 900,000 yen, or $ 7,975. All jackets have incredible attention to detail, with little nicks and signs of abrasion throughout. Nero’s jacket can also come with a damaged sleeve if you so desire. And if you’re not inclined to spend in the four-figure range, there’s also the “Classic Work Shirt” bundle which can be had for 11,852 yen, or $ 105.
This is not the first time Capcom has gone all out with a bundle. In 2012, for the release of Resident Evil 6, the publisher released a similar bundle featuring Leon Kennedy’s jacket. This bundle has not been announced for the US or international markets, but pre-orders are live. To place an order, you’ll have to follow the link on the website and email E-Capcom to confirm. Just don’t wear it outside of a video game convention (or Halloween), as it will never make you look cool.

]]>The lights dimmed and a tall, hawkish figure dressed in black took the stage. Muffled screams could be heard as Paganini’s slender, grayish-white fingers grasped the neck of his violin. Then, wielding the bow like a weapon, he attacked the first chords of his opening concerto, “Il Streghe” (“The Witches”). The maestro played with wild abandon, his long black hair flying as he sweated over his wailing instrument. In a review for Athaeneum, a music critic referred to Paganini as “Zamiel” (a mythological demonic huntsman) and said of the performance, “The poor violin was a transformed victim in the demon’s hand, uttering the anguished complaints of his inflicted torture.”
Where dance is found, there is the devil.
St. John Chrysostom
If Paganini was portrayed in devilish terms, it was because he was a 19th-century manifestation of a centuries-long association between the violin and Satan. Trickster spirits like the Grecian Pan and Celtic fairies love music for the debauchery and sinful behavior it inspires in mortals — but while these mythical troublemakers are depicted with ancient instruments like flutes and drums, the Christian devil gravitated toward the comparatively modern fiddle as his musical weapon of choice. Starting in medieval Europe and threading through Baroque art all the way to the Charlie Daniels Band’s 1979 hit “The Devil Went Down to Georgia,” Paganini was hardly the first to pick up the fiddle in the name of Satan. But why were the two linked?

The answer begins with the history of the wooden string instrument. Before the rubab and rabec (two of the violin’s earliest relatives) were imported from Arabia in the 15th century, bowed instruments did not exist in Europe. (The violin as we know it today was not developed until the mid-1500s, when Italian craftsmen like Amati from Cremona and Gasparo da Salò from Salon created the first ones.) And it was precisely because the violin had Eastern origins that it also carried an association with evil. There existed, as far back as the Middle Ages, a perception of the East as sensual and uninhibited — a perception that would grow into a cultural obsession with the eroticized Orientalism of the 19th century.
But it took the medieval Christian Church condemning dance as a path to hell to forge a link between Satan and the violin. In the 4th century, St. John Chrysostom proclaimed: “Where dance is found, there is the devil.” True, music has always been integral to Christian worship, but church hymns were vocal compositions, whereas secular music used myriad instruments and was composed with the explicit purpose of encouraging people to dance. The violin, because it was lightweight and easily portable, soon became a fixture at taverns and outdoor celebrations, sites of merry-making that the church condemned as frivolous, sinful and, in the case of certain festivals, pagan.
“The idea that wildness and dancing leads to fornication and just generally enjoying yourself was more accepted in pre-Christian society, where music and religious festivities were tightly connected,” says author and podcast producer Frederick Greenhalgh, whose “Day of the Dead” drama was inspired by the Orpheus myth. “[In the Christian worldview], virtue was associated with denying yourself pleasures.”
If, therefore, medieval Catholic saints— and the townspeople in the 1984 film Footloose — were correct that Satan could be summoned through music, it follows that Mephistopheles would appear as a musician enticing people into sin.

The image of Satan as a fiddler took off during the Baroque period, beginning around 1600. When Thomas Balthazar played in England in 1655, a music professor at Oxford reportedly stooped down to inspect the German virtuoso’s feet to make sure they weren’t cloven hooves. Later, “Devil’s Trill Sonata,” which dates from 1740, was said to have been composed by Giuseppe Tartini after he woke from a fevered dream in which the Devil played him a solo “so singularly beautiful and executed with such superior taste and precision, that it surpassed all he has ever heard or conceived in his life,” wrote 18th-century French astronomer and music enthusiast Jérôme Lalande.
And more recently, the trope of a musician making a deal with the devil lives in the legend of Robert Johnson, a Mississippi bluesman born in 1911 who allegedly encountered Satan at a crossroads and sold his soul in exchange for boundless talent.
Adding to this myth-making was the belief during Paganini’s time that certain violins were “ensouled” with the spirits of dead women whose intestines were used to make the strings. When played, these enchanted instruments were said to produce the screams of trapped souls, not music. The G string of Paganini’s violin, in fact, was rumored to have been made from the innards of a woman he’d murdered.
By the 1960s and ’70s, it was time for the devil to update his image by laying down the fiddle and picking up the electric guitar. From the Rolling Stones’ “Sympathy for the Devil” to Black Sabbath’s album We Sold Our Souls for Rock ’n’ Roll, the groups’ overt emphasis on Satan was unmistakable — once again inciting panic among the pious. Were those rockers the 20th-century equivalents of Paganini, musicians taken by dark forces that lured their fans into sin? Or were these fortissimo virtuosos so spellbinding that their skills could have come only from another realm? Hark, the music begins …

A historic 18th century church has burned to the ground in Russia’s Republic of Karelia, after being deliberately set on fire. A teenager, referred to by some locals as a devil worshipper, is suspected of the arson.
The Church of the Assumption of Our Lady, built in 1774 on a picturesque lakeshore in the town of Kondopoga in northwestern Russia, caught fire on Friday. The investigators said the structure started burning from inside, with the caretaker noticing the flames when it was already too late. The all-wooden 42-meter-tall church couldn’t be saved by fire crews and was turned into ashes in just a few hours.
A 15-year-old boy, who was visiting his grandmother in Karelia for the summer holidays, has been detained by the police over the incident. He reportedly used five liters of gasoline to destroy the historic building. Locals told Life tabloid that “the boy was a Satanist. He always dressed in black.” According to witnesses, he didn’t resist arrest, but was laughing when the officers handcuffed him.
The teen has been placed in a detention center for juvenile offenders, with a psychiatric evaluation ordered to determine his level of sanity.
However, Komsomolskaya Pravda reported that the boy committed the crime after receiving some kind of a “signal” on social media.
The perpetrator’s friend told the paper that he was browsing the web on his tablet when his face suddenly changed, he stood up and announced: “I’m going to burn the church.”
There are plans to rebuild the Church of the Assumption of Our Lady on the very same spot using the few remaining beams, with restoration artists saying the project will cost more than $ 1 million.

Father Paolo Glaentzer, 70, was arrested last month for allegedly molesting an 11-year-old girl in a car. The court did not jail the priest, but he is currently being held on house arrest as an investigation continues.
The disgraced priest told an Italian newspaper that he is “very sorry” about what happened, but argued that “the devil tripped me” into abusing the girl.
Glaentzer said that the encounter was “an exchange of affection” that got out of control, and added that the victim seemed “much more mature than she was.”
“I found out she was 11 years old…I thought she was at least 15,” he told the newspaper. Even if Glaentzer’s victim was 15, the priest would still have broken the law. Italy’s age of consent is 16 when one partner holds some kind of power and influence over the other, like a priest or teacher does.
The priest, who the interviewer noted seemed totally unbothered by the ongoing criminal case, said that has “entrusted myself to Jesus and Mary.”
The Catholic church has been rocked by a series of scandals recently. Last year it was revealed that almost 550 children in a choir led by the brother of former Pope Benedict XVI were abused, with 47 of them raped.
Last month, Cardinal Theodore McCarrick, the former archbishop of Washington DC, resigned, facing a litany of sex abuse allegations, including sexual abuse of an altar boy and rape of two young trainee priests.
