Duncan Smith continued: “We had to report huge swathes of the stuff that went onto social media to the police – threatening, angry, death threats, threats.

“I just take the view that by and large, Twitter is an abusive medium, and I don’t engage by that regard, but others do.”

The 65-year-old then addressed Stewart’s case directly, admitting he was “sorry” to see such a veteran in the world of broadcasting dismissed in such a way.

He added: “I’m sorry about Alastair Stewart because I liked him very much as a broadcaster.

Big Bang Theory: 3 spin-offs fans deserve to see including Penny special https://briefnews.eu/big-bang-theory-3-spin-offs-fans-deserve-to-see-including-penny-special/ https://briefnews.eu/big-bang-theory-3-spin-offs-fans-deserve-to-see-including-penny-special/#respond Fri, 20 Sep 2019 23:25:47 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/big-bang-theory-3-spin-offs-fans-deserve-to-see-including-penny-special/

Penny spin-off

There has already been a lot of traction surrounding a special – one or more episodes – with everyone’s favourite blonde bombshell.

Penny started off as the lovable girl next door who was keen to get to know her neighbours, Sheldon and Leonard. At that, history was made when she became the latter’s girlfriend, at least for a large portion of the show.

Their on-off love certainly kept fans on their toes but in the end, it was their pregnancy that really shocked people.

A spin-off featuring Penny and her new baby – whether she was with Leonard or not – would be an interesting watch.

What’s more, Kaley herself has spoken out about ever rejoining the franchise, and it seems she’s up for it.

The actress told Entertainment Tonight: “I mean, it’s 12 years of my life, we’ve all had a lot of ups and downs in the last 12 years we’re a very close group and, you know, we have a legacy of the show. It’s something I’ll have for the rest of my life. It’s something I’ll probably compare every project to, like nothing will be like Big Bang. It just is what it is.

“It’s made me who I am. It’s given me so many great things and blessings and I’ll be very indebted to the show and Chuck Lorre forever. I would be interested in working with Chuck again, and these are Chuck’s characters and it’s really whatever he would want.”

Pearson: Does the Suits Spinoff Deserve a Season 2? — Plus, Grade the Finale! https://briefnews.eu/pearson-does-the-suits-spinoff-deserve-a-season-2-plus-grade-the-finale/ https://briefnews.eu/pearson-does-the-suits-spinoff-deserve-a-season-2-plus-grade-the-finale/#respond Thu, 19 Sep 2019 09:15:00 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/pearson-does-the-suits-spinoff-deserve-a-season-2-plus-grade-the-finale/

RELATED STORIES

Pearson‘s first season in the Windy City came to a close on Wednesday — and it could be the last, seeing as how USA Network has yet to renew the Suits spinoff. Should the series fail to score a pickup, viewers will be left with multiple cliffhangers from the Season 1 ender.

Let’s review what went down: After Nick says he wants to confess to killing Tommy Diehl, Keri calls Jessica to help talk him out of it. If he goes to the police, he’ll also be destroying Bobby’s life, Jessica points out. Instead, she brings him back to her home and convinces him to hand over his gun — for his own safety, not hers — before handing him a notepad to write down everything that happened that fateful day. Jessica reads the confession and senses that Nick is keeping some details to himself, like how he disposed of Tommy’s body when Nick is much smaller than the other man.

Meanwhile, Jeff returns to Chicago to surprise Jessica and gets a surprise of his own: a visit from the Justice Department and the FBI. He warns Jessica that they’re investigating her, but she still can’t tell her beau what she knows since they don’t have marital privilege. Jeff urges her to cooperate with the authorities. “It’s the last thing I’ll ever ask of you,” he says in what feels like a breakup scene (noooo!).

Jessica then shreds the FBI files Jeff took for her and goes to meet Bobby in the alley from the pilot’s in medias res opening. When he shows, Jessica observes that he isn’t surprised to hear that Nick killed Tommy… because Bobby was actually the one who offed Tommy! Nick is just taking the fall for his brother. Now that Jessica knows exactly what the mayor’s McGann problem is, she says she’ll fix his mess, but after that, she’s done being his errand girl.

While that scene closes out the finale, there are a few other cliffhangers in the episode, too:

* Jessica offers her cousin Angela the alderman seat.

Pearson Recap* Keri — who gets a visit from the FBI, too — accepts a new job at a law firm.

* Derek keeps bringing up the kiss from last week, but Yoli insists it was just a peck. Speaking of the press secretary, he seemingly quits his job after getting into an argument with Bobby.

* Stephanie hands Bobby divorce papers, but says she doesn’t want to end their marriage. She just wants back the man she fell in love with, who impressed her with his passion at a city council meeting.

Pearson fans, are you hoping the show gets another season? What do you think worked and didn’t work in the spinoff? Grade it below, then hit the comments with your thoughts!

Ronda Rousey: Becky Lynch reveals why she and UFC hero deserve WrestleMania main event https://briefnews.eu/ronda-rousey-becky-lynch-reveals-why-she-and-ufc-hero-deserve-wrestlemania-main-event/ https://briefnews.eu/ronda-rousey-becky-lynch-reveals-why-she-and-ufc-hero-deserve-wrestlemania-main-event/#respond Thu, 27 Dec 2018 04:50:14 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/ronda-rousey-becky-lynch-reveals-why-she-and-ufc-hero-deserve-wrestlemania-main-event/

Lynch and RAW Women’s Champion Rousey have been feuding ever since last October after WWE’s inaugural all-women’s Pay-Per-View event Evolution.

The two WWE megastars were set to battle at Survivor Series but the match was cancelled after The Irish Lass Kicker suffered a broken nose and a concussion at the hands of Nia Jax.

The Man, however, hasn’t stopped targeting the WWE Hall of Famer and is determined to lock horns with her at WrestleMania.

According to Wrestling Inc, the two-time women’s champion is also adamant that they both deserve to become the first ever women to headline Mania next year on April 7 at the MetLife Stadium in New York because they are part of the hottest angle in wrestling.

Lynch told E&C’s Pod of Awesomeness when asked if they are worthy of the main-event spot at the Show of Shows: “Absolutely.

“I will say it for this reason and it is not about gender, but it is about who are the most popular and interesting superstars on the roster?

“Right now, I cannot think of two people that have higher ratings and interest in them than myself and Ronda Rousey, and that reason alone we should be in the main event.

“If anyone else can step up and draw as much interest, then my goodness, please have at it but that is not going to happen.

“That is my spot and I am not letting anyone else take it.”

Lynch wants Rousey to be her WrestleMania opponent more than anyone else because of her incredible work in UFC which made her a pioneer in MMA.

‘Rowdy’ was crowned the first ever UFC Women’s Bantamweight Champion in 2012 and was undefeated for almost three years.

Lynch added: “I would want Ronda Rousey to be my opponent at WrestleMania 35 for the simple reason that Ronda in her sport was a pioneer.

“I do not think that women would be in the UFC if not for Ronda Rousey and [UFC President] Dana White said that himself.

“When Ronda came in, we saw a star of the magnitude that may never be matched again in MMA, but that is a different sport and this is my sport.

“Here she came in with a name from somewhere else having been born tough and born this athletic creation that winning came so easily to her, and it has come so easily for her where she has picked up this game quicker than anybody I have ever seen, with maybe the exception of Kurt Angle.

“There is a lot that not only do I want to prove to myself but to the entire world, and that is one thing to be born tough like Ronda, but it is a whole different thing to be made tough the way that I am.

“That is the difference between the two of us and I am going to prove what is longer lasting and I am going to prove it in the main event of WrestleMania against Ronda Rousey.”

7 artists who don’t deserve their 2019 Grammy nominations — sorry https://briefnews.eu/7-artists-who-dont-deserve-their-2019-grammy-nominations-sorry/ https://briefnews.eu/7-artists-who-dont-deserve-their-2019-grammy-nominations-sorry/#respond Sat, 08 Dec 2018 12:10:37 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/7-artists-who-dont-deserve-their-2019-grammy-nominations-sorry/ cardi b post maloneRich Fury/Frazer Harrison/Getty Images

Music is easily one of the most subjective topics to debate — which places the Grammy Awards’ Academy members in a constant crossfire.

Major award shows are bound to make mistakes. It’s unavoidable. Our challenge, then, is to sort through the uproar and find nominations that future generations will look back on with either rage or confusion.

Here are seven artists whose nominations seem at least somewhat undeserving, in no particular order.

Cardi B had a monumental year, but “Invasion of Privacy” isn’t album of the year material.

Matt Winkelmeyer/Getty Images

It’s certainly encouraging to see the Grammys hand five nominations to Cardi B, an unapologetic, unconventional firecracker — whose success reflects the significant shift towards rap and hip hop for modern music fans.

But that doesn’t mean her debut studio album, “Invasion of Privacy,” necessarily deserves the high praise.

While the project hits some very high points — “I Like It,” for example, is perfectly at home in the record of the year category — it was inconsistent as a whole. “Invasion of Privacy” shows great promise for the young, chart-topping rapper, and proves she’s here to stay. But popularity and easy listening doesn’t always equate to “album of the year” potential.

“The Middle” is more annoying than award-winning.

Matt Winkelmeyer/Getty Images

“The Middle” — the earworm collaboration between DJ Zedd and singer Maren Morris, which you’ve probably heard in a Target commercial — secured three nominations for the 2019 Grammys.

While the song’s commercial success somewhat excuses this lapse in judgment, it would have made more sense to stop at the nod for best pop duo/group performance — without letting it slither into two of the most prestigious categories: record of the year” and song of the year.

Post Malone didn’t need an album of the year nomination.

Joe Scarnici/Getty Images

To be sure, Post Malone has a talent for hit-making. Giving “Rockstar” a “Record of the Year” nomination makes perfect sense; it’s a perfect song.

But Post Malone doesn’t offer the kind of nuanced, relevant, boundary-pushing music that we’ve come to expect from rappers at the top of their game — and he doesn’t want to. He has explicitly warned his fans not to expect “real s—” from him.

“If you’re looking for lyrics, if you’re looking to cry, if you’re looking to think about life, don’t listen to hip-hop,” he said last year, which is something a person would only say if they’re benefiting from a layered, historically significant genre that they fundamentally don’t understand, a person who’s ignorant about black music and culture.

“Beerbongs & Bentleys” reflects this attitude. It’s an album comprised of mediocre songwriting with catchy hooks and some well-placed, high-profile features. It’s certainly not the “Album of the Year.”

3 video games that deserve a second chance https://briefnews.eu/3-video-games-that-deserve-a-second-chance/ https://briefnews.eu/3-video-games-that-deserve-a-second-chance/#respond Mon, 03 Dec 2018 12:53:56 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/3-video-games-that-deserve-a-second-chance/ video gameVito Fun/flickr

  • Lots of people buy video games, try them briefly, and forget about them for one reason or another.
  • There are plenty of games that deserve a second chance, or a revisit if you gave up on them the first time.

Not every video game makes an excellent impression the first time around. But many games, especially in recent years, tend to improve greatly after their initial public launch. Updates, expansions, and even remasters can give an old video game new life.

While there are dozens of video games worth revisiting, we highlighted the three that we think should be at the top of your “second chance” list.

“Destiny 2” — Available on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PC

YouTube/Bungie

“Destiny 2” was rough at launch, to say the least. I was a big “Destiny” player even before the sequel came out, but was extremely disappointed in all of the ways “Destiny 2” had regressed: Fun systems were made less fun, the all-too-rare “exotic” items were suddenly way too easy to obtain, and the game was generally more boring than the first outing.

Like the first “Destiny” game, though, “Destiny 2” experienced a massive overhaul in the form of an expansion, which arrived in September, exactly one year after the launch of the base game. The new expansion, “Forsaken,” drastically changes the way players experience “Destiny” for the better. I would even call it the best “Destiny” expansion to date.

Unfortunately, many people are missing out on all of the new goodies in “Destiny 2 Forsaken” because the 2017 launch of “Destiny 2” was so bad. But if you give “Destiny 2” a chance, you’ll enjoy a really fun and addicting sci-fi shooter that feels way more rewarding than it was a year ago. If you’ve ever wanted to know what it would feel like to be a superhero in space, “Destiny 2” is your opportunity — but you need to get it with the “Forsaken” expansion to really enjoy everything the game has to offer.

Price: “Forsaken Legendary Collection,” which includes the base game and all three expansions, costs $ 35 on Amazon

“The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt” — Available on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PC

CD Projekt Red

I’ll admit it: The first time I tried playing “The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt,” I found it overwhelming. There were too many quests to do, and too many large areas to explore. I had other games I wanted to play at the time, so I put it down and moved on.

This summer, though, I found myself looking for a new game to play, so I decided to give “The Witcher 3” another chance. I started a new game, and I was immediately enthralled.

By the time I played “The Witcher 3,” the game’s developers CD Projekt Red had vastly improved the game’s stability, fixing numerous bugs and issues that hampered the game’s performance. And the game also had two massive new expansions available for me to play, including the gorgeous “Blood and Wine” expansion, which features my favorite locale and storyline in the entire game.

“The Witcher 3” can be a magical experience. It presents you a massive, immersive fantasy world filled with monsters, magic, and memorable quests and characters. The game’s looks and performance have significantly improved since launch, and if you pick it up now, you can enjoy all of the excellent expansions as soon as you’re ready for them. With so much to do, “The Witcher 3” is one of the best values you can get right now in a video game.

Price: Game of the Year Edition, which includes base game and all expansions, costs $ 36 on Amazon

“Dark Souls Remastered” — Available on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, PC

FromSoftware

This year, fans were treated to a remastered version of the original “Dark Souls” game, which first came out in 2011 for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. “Dark Souls” was notorious for being an extremely difficult game, but it also featured incredible design elements like interconnected environments and a surprisingly deep combat system.

“Dark Souls Remastered” features the original base game and all of its expansions, fully remastered for current-generation game consoles like the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. The game also launched for the Nintendo Switch in October, so you can play “Dark Souls” on the go.

Many people may have missed “Dark Souls Remastered” because it came out around the same time as other popular games like “God of War,” which was one of the most talked-about games of 2018, but with the holiday season approaching, now is the best time to revisit this challenging game.

Price: $ 27 to $ 32 (depending on platform) on Amazon

17 Ways to Ace Your Next Phone Interview And Land the Job You Deserve https://briefnews.eu/17-ways-to-ace-your-next-phone-interview-and-land-the-job-you-deserve/ https://briefnews.eu/17-ways-to-ace-your-next-phone-interview-and-land-the-job-you-deserve/#respond Tue, 18 Sep 2018 00:03:00 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/17-ways-to-ace-your-next-phone-interview-and-land-the-job-you-deserve/ There is one thing standing in the way of you and the job of your dreams: a phone interview. The screening interview is an opportunity for companies to narrow the list of presumably qualified applicants and determine who merits a closer look.

So many candidates exclude themselves from the phone interview by being unprepared or by failing to take this screening session seriously. A phone interview should not block you from living the life you have always imagined.

Here are 17 tips to help you ace your next one:

1. Clear the deck.

If you are reading this blog, you are likely busier than you would prefer or even imagine. Even when you schedule or accept phone interviews, they are likely sandwiched between meetings.

To show up fully present, energized and engaged, I recommend you clear the deck and give yourself at least an hour of uninterrupted time before and 30 minutes following the interview.

You can use the time to mentally prepare, develop a list of questions, rehearse answers to likely questions and ensure you are comfortable and ready for the interview.

2. Look the part.

It is no secret that we perform better when we look and feel the part. If you have a phone interview, dress up for the interview, if dressing up is comfortable and allows you to put your best foot forward.

Even though you will likely do the interview from home or a private location, be sure you are dressed professionally. This will allow you to be fully engaged and present.

In the event, the interviewer asks to connect with you via Zoom, Google Hangout or Skype, you will be prepared.

3. Resend your resume and cover letter prior to the call.

As a courtesy, resend your resume and cover letter prior to your screening interview. You never know if the person interviewing you has had a busy day or if a schedule change forced him or her to work from home rather than the office where the individual has access to their files.

There have been many times in my career where a last-minute change or a mix-up with support staff has left me scrambling at the last minute to find a candidate’s resume. It is quite embarrassing to misplace a resume and ask the interviewee to resubmit it.

You can save the interviewer the trouble and earn extra points by resending both documents in advance of your call. A simple message will suffice, such as “I am looking forward to speaking with you in an hour, and I am resending my resume to ensure it is at the top of your inbox.”

4. Research the interviewer.

Once your interview is scheduled, be sure to research the person facilitating it.

You will want to Google the person and check their social media accounts. When you research the interviewer, try to get a sense of the individual’s personal and professional interests.

Once you identify those interests, acknowledge them in the interview, but do not dwell on them, because you do not want to make the interviewer uncomfortable. Follow his or her lead. If the interviewer indulges your questions or comments, by all means, continue the conversation.

I am always impressed when someone I am meeting with takes the opportunity to learn something about me ahead of time. This projects interest, which is important in my line of work.

5. Research the company.

In addition to researching the interviewer, be sure to research the company.

Ask people in your network if they know anyone who works or has worked for the organization in question. Conduct a Google search on the company, and be mindful to look beyond the first page of the search query.

If there are yelp reviews on the company, be careful to review those and look for trends as well as how recent the reviews were posted. While more recent reviews are obviously cause for pause, older reviews – depending on their nature – could be problematic as well.

6. Check the staff listing or “About Us” section of the company’s website.

Part of your research into a company is assessing whether you know staff or board members who are connected with the company.

Most organizations list their staff or board members in the “About Us” or “Our Team” section of the website. Prior to a phone interview, check these sections to determine whether you know someone who works for the company. If you do, reach out to that person to request a phone interview to learn more about the company.

7. Remember interviewing is a two-way street.

As much as the company representative wants to learn about you as the interviewee, you will want to learn about the organization.

Try to ferret out information on the company, the job for which you are applying as well as the manager to whom you would report. You will also want to ask questions to assess the interview process.

Additionally, because culture is important and will permit or slow your ability to do your job, ask questions to assess company culture, such as “What do your employees say they like most about working for your organization?” “What do employees say they like least?” “What do you do to create and maintain a healthy workplace culture?”

8. Develop questions prior to the interview.

Prior to your interview, develop a list of questions about the company, the position for which you are applying, growth opportunities in the company, the ideal candidate for the position, and so forth. This will save you the trouble of thinking of questions on the spot during the interview.

I have found that once I become nervous, it is a lot harder to come up with questions on the spot, and interviews can be anxiety-producing without preparation.

9. Stand during the interview.

I train leaders and, incidentally, graduate students to become spokespersons.

I recommend that they stand during media interviews. I find that it helps the person speaking to project better, and it reduces the urge to get too comfortable in an interview setting and say something that could be too informal.

Similarly, I recommend interviewees stand for at least a portion of their phone interview.

10. Allow the interviewer to talk.

While it is essential you ask questions during an interview, you should not dominate the conversation.

Most people love talking about themselves and the company they represent, and it is your job as the interviewee to walk a fine line between allowing the interviewer to talk and interspersing questions when and where appropriate.

I am not suggesting you remain silent – you want the interviewer to learn about you; but you should ensure that the interviewer has ample opportunity to do what most people do best: talk about themselves and their work.

11. Refrain from multitasking.

We all live hurried lives, and most of us have to-do lists that are impossible to complete.

When we have multiple due dates and obligations, it is typical to want to avail oneself of every seemingly free moment of time.

When conducting or participating in a phone interview, be as present as possible. This means refraining from multitasking, which could mean responding to emails, text messages or social media messages. It could mean researching the company during the interview.

Whatever multitasking means for you, simply do not do it, especially during a screening interview.

12. Conduct the phone interview in a place where there is minimal noise.

A common thread throughout this post has been that most of us live busy lives. So, it is natural to be on the go.

If you have the luxury of conducting a phone interview from home or a private office where there is minimal noise, do so. You may also rent a co-working space or ask a friend if you can borrow his or her office.

Whatever you do, select a place where there is minimal noise and distraction. The person interviewing you should not have to strain to hear what you are saying or compete with ambient noises.

When I am interviewing a candidate and competing with background noise, I grow frustrated and my focus can shift from getting to know the person to silencing the noise. Do not force your interviewer to choose.

13. Be punctual.

Do not leave the interviewer waiting. This is both rude and unprofessional, and it may count against you.

If you are able to follow my earlier advice and not schedule meetings within an hour of your phone interview, you should have no time being prompt for your discussion.

If you foresee that you will be late, be sure to give the interviewer a heads-up at least 15-20 minutes prior to the start of the call.

14. Focus on how you can and will help.

Let’s face it: people are naturally self-interested.

When you walk into an interview focused on what you can bring and how you can solve a hiring manager’s problems, you will set yourself and your candidacy apart.

Think about the challenges you could potentially solve and then share how your joining the team will benefit the company, not just you.

15. Take the interview seriously.

Do not assume you will have an opportunity to meet face to face with company representatives. Do not discount the weight that may be placed on phone interviews.

I once applied for a position on the East Coast while living on the West Coast. While my first interview was face to face, my interview with one senior leader was over the phone. I walked into the interview thinking it would be less intense than it was.

From the moment the leader got on the phone with me, I was on my toes. I had to quickly recalibrate to handle the intensity of the questions lobbed on me.

To this day, more than six years later, that phone interview remains one of the most difficult interviews I have ever had. Fortunately for me, I was offered the job, but the experience still stands out as a learning lesson.

16. Send a thank-you note.

Kindness is underrated. We live in a society where most people are overscheduled and overbooked.

When faced with intense pressure, it can be easy to underestimate the role of kindness. But when someone shares a portion of the day with you by granting you an interview, you owe it to that individual and to yourself to send a thank-you note following the interview.

The note can be via email, a standard letter or a card. So few people do this that those who do stand out.

Become an individual who remembers this gesture of kindness and professional courtesy.

17. Be positive.

Energy really is contagious. If you don’t believe me, consider locking yourself in a room for one hour with people are upset. By the time you leave the room, you will be upset right along with them. It is natural to mirror the other person even if you do not realize you are doing it.

During your next phone interview, mirror positivity, both about the position, the company and most importantly, your skill sets. The interviewer will pick up on your energy and positivity and that will reflect favorably.

I cannot tell you how many times I have interviewed candidates who communicated no excitement or enthusiasm. Getting through the interview was difficult, not to mention, I kept thinking about what it would be like to work with the person daily.

Being positive not only helps you feel better, it helps the person interviewing you as well.
