American politics has always been about spectacle, and with Tuesday’s midterm elections watched closer than any in recent memory, candidates have been dredging the bottom of the barrel for creative and attention-grabbing ideas.

Here we take a look back at the political ads that, for better or worse, stood out from the pack during this election season.

Richard Painter lights a dumpster fire

Washington DC has been called a ‘dumpster fire’ more times than lazy journalists have used bad similes. In case the comparison makes no sense, former George W. Bush ethics counsel and Minnesota Senate candidate Richard Painter demonstrated it visually this summer.

“Some people see a dumpster fire and do nothing but watch the spectacle,” Painter deadpans to the camera, as he stands in front of an actual, flaming dumpster. “Some are too scared to face the danger. Or they think it’ll benefit them if they just let it keep on burning.

“There is an inferno raging in Washington. But here in the land of 10,000 lakes – we know how to put out a fire,” he says, as a torrent of water pours down from above and extinguishes the flames.

Painter’s unflinching stare borders on intimidating, and the steely eyed Senate hopeful was ridiculed online for his ad. Painter didn’t scare anyone into voting for him, and he captured only 13 percent of the Democratic vote in his party’s primary election in August, falling way behind businesswoman Tina Smith’s 76 percent take.

Ron DeSantis shows off his parenting skills

Florida Republican gubernatorial candidate Ron DeSantis’ race against progressive, Bernie Sanders-endorsed hotshot Andrew Gillum has been described as a kind of litmus test for America. Endorsed by the president, DeSantis has been keen to show off just how devoted he is to following Trump’s agenda, at work and at home.

In an August campaign video, DeSantis enjoys an array of wholesome activities with his children, like teaching his daughter to “build the wall,” and reading President Trump’s ‘The Art of the Deal’ to his infant son.

“Then Mister Trump said, ‘You’re fired,’” he tells the boy. “I love that part.” The adoring father then teaches his daughter to read “Make America Great Again” from a campaign poster.

DeSantis’ campaign has since been stained by racial controversy, but the race to the governor’s mansion remains a tight one. Polls currently put Gillum ahead by two points.

All aboard the deportation bus

Michael Williams, a Republican gubernatorial candidate in Georgia, knows how to make a statement. In a video since pulled by YouTube for ‘hate speech’ violations, Williams steps off a prison transport bus rebranded as the ‘deportation bus,’ promising to “fill this bus with illegals to send them back to where they came from.”

“We’re not just gonna track them and watch them roam around our state. We’re gonna put them on this bus and send ‘em home!”

The bus itself is emblazoned with a warning that reads “DANGER! Murderers, rapists, kidnappers, child molestors, and other criminals on board,” as well as “Follow me to Mexico.”

Naturally, Twitter reacted with shock, bewilderment, and accusations of racism.

While Williams’ bus toured the length and breadth of the state of Georgia drumming up support for his hardline anti-immigration platform, the message fell flat. Williams came in last place in his party’s primary election in May, capturing only five percent of the vote.

Republican hit with a fantasy endorsement from Russia

It wouldn’t be a list of crazy campaign ads without bringing in the Democratic party’s tired attempt to blame the world’s ills on Russia. In this case, a Democratic PAC released a parody ad, in which Russian President Vladimir Putin congratulates Republican House candidate Dana Rohrabacher for his loyalty to the motherland.

“You are a true Russian hero,” a proud female voiceover reads. “Thank you Dana Rohrabacher for standing with Putin and Russia!”

Rohrabacher and Democratic opponent Harley Rouda are currently neck-and-neck in the polls, despite the Democratic PAC’s spot of Russophobic meddling.

Dan Helmer rides into the danger zone

House Democratic candidate Dan Helmer’s ill-advised attempt to recreate his favorite ‘Top Gun’ scene has it all: pumping music, a grand entrance, and cringe-inducing singing.

Decked out in aviators and a bomber jacket, Helmer rides up to a bar on his motorcycle. So far, so badass. Inside, he spots Republican incumbent Barbara Comstock and launches into a crudely reworded and tuneless rendition of ‘You’ve Lost That Loving Feeling.’

Among other shoehorned lyrics: “You’ve lost that centrist feeling… ’cause you’ve been right-wing appealing.”

Helmer’s video didn’t take voters’ breath away, and the high-flying democrat lost out to State Senator Jennifer Wexton in Virginia’s Democratic primary in June.

Honorable mentions

The shortlist of ill-advised campaign videos is infinite, with candidates all across the country seemingly eager to create scandal and embarrass themselves in front of millions of potential voters.

Honorable mentions that didn’t quite make the cut include this Colorado House candidate pepper spraying himself to stop school shootings; this Georgia Republican’s guns, trucks and chainsaws conservative manifesto; and this West Virginia Republican’s assertion that Senate Majority Leader “Cocaine Mitch” McConnell has created “millions of jobs for Chinapeople.”

Swedish court outrages pro-Jewish groups by nixing deportation of Palestinian arsonist https://briefnews.eu/swedish-court-outrages-pro-jewish-groups-by-nixing-deportation-of-palestinian-arsonist/ https://briefnews.eu/swedish-court-outrages-pro-jewish-groups-by-nixing-deportation-of-palestinian-arsonist/#respond Fri, 14 Sep 2018 21:31:46 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/swedish-court-outrages-pro-jewish-groups-by-nixing-deportation-of-palestinian-arsonist/ Sweden’s court decision to overturn the expulsion of a Palestinian convicted of firebombing a local Synagogue has provoked a fierce reaction from Israel and pro-Jewish groups that called it a legitimization of anti-Semitism.

The Court of Appeals for Western Sweden has overruled another court’s decision concerning a deportation of a Palestinian man, who was earlier convicted of staging an arson attack on a synagogue in the city of Gothenburg. The man was sentenced to two years and prison and expulsion over what was classified as a hate crime, the Swedish media reported.

While upholding the prison sentence, the court of appeals still said that, since the perpetrator could be “perceived as a threat to other Jews” and Israel “might have an interest in the matter,”Sweden “cannot secure the man’s fundamental human rights” in case of his deportation to Palestine.

The convicted Palestinian has been previously granted asylum in the Nordic country.

The decision immediately provoked angry response from some Israeli officials.

The court “has shown blatant ignorance regarding Israel’s independent Judiciary that has gained international reputation,” Ilan Ben-Dov, Israel’s ambassador to Sweden said in a Facebook post as he maintained that “Israel is a democratic country, based on Rule of Law.”

The envoy slammed the court ruling by calling it a “highly prejudicial and politicized verdict,” which “excuses, and therefore legitimizes, the actions of a violent Anti-Semite as acceptable political criticism.” Israel’s Foreign Ministry spokesman Emmanuel Nahshon also lambasted the court’s decision by saying that this “shameful” verdict “gives legitimacy to violent anti-Semitism and defames the State of Israel.”

Some Swedish and international pro-Jewish organizations also joined the wave of outrage sparked by the court’s decision. Maria Halkiewicz, chairman of the Sweden-Israel Friendship Association office in Stockholm told the Swedish Nyheter Idag newspaper that the Jews in Sweden are already concerned about the anti-Semitism in the Swedish society and the latest development only further contributes to this fear.

“The fact that such a man gets to stay in Sweden on the grounds that he is guilty of crimes against Jews is really hard to grasp. It is bizarre that anti-Semitism can save a criminal from expulsion,”Halkiewicz said.

“We are afraid that the anti-Semitism from the Arab world will become a mortal threat to us. In Sweden, there is no longer any religious freedom for us Jews,” a Swedish writer of Jewish descent, Salomon Schulman, wrote in an opinion piece for the Swedish Expressen newspaper titled “How could you not expulse the synagogue arsonist.”

The nationalist Sweden Democrats Party also contributed to the outpouring of criticism as it apparently pursued its own goals. “A great political signal: ‘Are you a Palestinian worried about being expelled [from Sweden]? Attack some Jews and stay…”an MP and the Sweden Democrats’ spokesperson on migration, Paula Bieler, said in a Twitter post.

Some international Jewish organizations also weighed in on the issue. The World Jewish Congress (WJC) called the court’s decision a “dangerous precedent rewarding terrorist violence.”

“This is an offensive moral outrage rewarding … anti-Semitism and criminal behavior,” the WJC CEO, Robert Singer, said, commenting on the matter.

The US-based pro-Jewish Anti-Defamation League (ADL) also slammed the verdict as an openly anti-Semitic and discriminative act. “Swedish community tells us: Had the Palestinian thrown a firebomb in the street, he would have been deported. Because he targeted a synagogue, he won’t be. The court cares more about attacking Israel than protecting Jewish community of Sweden,” Jonathan Greenblatt, the former Special Assistant to the former US President Barack Obama and the ADL CEO, said in a tweet.

The convicted Palestinian, whose name was not revealed by the Swedish authorities, was one of a dozen of people, who threw Molotov cocktails and firebombs at a synagogue in Gothenburg back on December 9, 2017. The incident resulted in no casualties, although a group of Jewish teenagers, who were attending a celebration in the building, had to briefly take shelter in the synagogue cellar.

The man was later arrested and convicted of a hate crime alongside with two other assailants, who were identified as a Syrian and a stateless man of Palestinian descent. The Palestinian, however, was the only one, who was due to be deported as the other two had Swedish residence permits.

The attack on the synagogue took place just three days after the US President Donald Trump officially recognized Jerusalem as the capital of Israel, sparking massive anti-Israeli and anti-American protests that erupted across the Muslim world. Israel then launched a brutal crackdown on the protesters in the Occupied Territories.

Around a dozen Palestinians have been killed and hundreds injured as Israeli security forces violently suppressed demonstrators in Jerusalem, the West Bank and Gaza. Sweden, meanwhile, has been the first EU member in the western Europe to officially recognize the State of Palestine back in 2014.

Indian-born Muslims fear deportation as Hindu nationalist Modi’s crack down on immigration https://briefnews.eu/indian-born-muslims-fear-deportation-as-hindu-nationalist-modis-crack-down-on-immigration/ https://briefnews.eu/indian-born-muslims-fear-deportation-as-hindu-nationalist-modis-crack-down-on-immigration/#respond Thu, 04 Jan 2018 08:51:43 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/indian-born-muslims-fear-deportation-as-hindu-nationalist-modis-crack-down-on-immigration/ Women stand next to policemen as they wait to check their names on the draft list of the National Register of Citizens (NRC) at an NRC centre in Chandamari village in Goalpara district, in the northeastern state of Assam, India, January 2, 2018. • India’s Prime Minister Nandera Modi’s Hindu Nationalist party has vowed to act against illegal Muslim immigrants from neighboring Bangladesh, but some Indian-born Muslims fear they could be descriminated against.
  • The government is asking people to prove they have lived in India since 1974, and if they can’t prove it they could be deported regardless of citizenship.

FOFONGA, India (Reuters) – Marzina Bibi, a Muslim woman living in India’s northeastern state of Assam, is petrified she will be declared stateless.

The 26-year-old’s name was not on a preliminary list of citizens that was published at midnight on Sunday, although she holds a voter identity card and had voted in state elections in 2016.

“Why are they doing this to me?” Bibi asked, sitting beside a bamboo mat she was weaving outside her mud house in Assam’s Fofonga village. “They think I am a Bangladeshi. I was born here, my parents were born here, I am an Indian.”

Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Hindu nationalist Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), which came to power in Assam in the April, 2016 elections, vowed during the campaign to act against illegal Muslim immigrants from neighboring Bangladesh. But rights activists say the drive is also targeting Muslims who are Indian citizens.

Two national spokesmen for the BJP declined to comment.

A spokesman for the Ministry of Home Affairs in New Delhi did not reply to e-mails and a telephone call seeking comment.

Citizenship and illegal migration are volatile issues in tea-growing and oil-rich Assam, home to more than 32 million people, about a third of whom are Muslims. Hundreds of people were killed in the 1980s in a violent protest by a native Assamese group against outsiders from the state taking the bulk of jobs and cornering resources, including land.

For the latest update of the National Register of Citizens (NRC), all residents of Assam had to produce documents proving that they or their families lived in the country before March 24, 1971, to be recognized as Indian citizens.

According to the preliminary list of the NRC, about 19 million people in Assam have now been verified as Indian citizens. More names will be added, and officials say the final list is likely to be published in July.

Reuters spoke to nearly two dozen Muslims, including Bibi, from paddy-growing villages around Fofonga who said their names were not on the preliminary list.

“I feel we are targeted because we are Muslims,” said Bibi, who said she has already proved she was Indian – she was jailed for eight months on charges of being an illegal migrant from Bangladesh and was let off only after showing documents attesting to her nationality.

Surrounded by her neighbors in the village, she showed her voter identity card and the court order for her release from jail.

No religious bias

The BJP has said previous governments have included many Bangladeshi immigrants on electoral rolls to buy votes.

At the local NRC office in the Muslim-majority area, only around 4,500 people had made it to the preliminary list out of nearly 11,000 who had applied.

The government officer in charge of the center, Gautam Sharmah, said there was no religious bias against Muslims.

“That’s impossible. We only look at documents,” Sharmah said at his office, as people trickled in to look for their names on the second day of the list’s publication. “The time taken in the verification process depends on what kind of documents people submit.”

Reuters saw a tribal Hindu man leaving the NRC office with a smile after being told that the names of all six members of his family were on the list. Soon after, two Muslim women came with their infants, and left disappointed.

Hundreds of thousands of people fled to India from Muslim-majority Bangladesh after it declared independence from Pakistan on March 26, 1971, setting off a nine-month civil war. Most of them settled in Assam and the neighboring state of West Bengal, where there are similar demands to send back illegal Muslim immigrants.

The migrants include many Hindus, but the federal BJP government has said they will not be deported.

Himanta Biswa Sarma, Assam’s finance minister who is also in charge of the citizenship register, told Reuters that all those whose names do not figure in the final NRC list would be segregated.

“Deportation is an issue handled by the central government,” Sarma said.

“Hindu Bangladeshis who had faced persecution should be given shelter in India and that is the central government’s stand.”

Muslims leaders have called the NRC a tool to make them stateless, likening themselves to Myanmar’s persecuted Rohingya minority. They have also warned of unrest.

Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal told the Times of India daily that the “people who are declared foreigners will be barred from all constitutional rights, including fundamental and electoral. They will have only one right — human rights as guaranteed by the U.N. that include food, shelter and clothing”.

In Fofonga, Bibi said she would challenge the list if it did not include her and her family as citizens.

“We are poor people, my husband is a laborer,” she said, going back to weaving her mat. “But I will go to court if we are left out.”

Danish immigration minister flees deportation center chased by angry migrants (VIDEO) https://briefnews.eu/danish-immigration-minister-flees-deportation-center-chased-by-angry-migrants-video/ https://briefnews.eu/danish-immigration-minister-flees-deportation-center-chased-by-angry-migrants-video/#respond Sat, 04 Nov 2017 10:31:40 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/danish-immigration-minister-flees-deportation-center-chased-by-angry-migrants-video/

Police and security had to intervene to help the Danish immigration and integration minister escape a potential assault by a crowd of rejected asylum-seekers, indignant over her decision to focus attention on only one family in the deportation facility.

On what was supposed to be a photo op on Friday for Danish Minister for Immigration, Integration and Housing Inger Støjberg at the Sjælsmark deportation center on the island of North Zealand, things went awry as a group of failed asylum applicants encircled her, Danish broadcaster DR reported.

A crowd of around 40 disgruntled residents of the center, all awaiting deportation, confronted the minister as she was about to drive away.

“When we came outside after the visit, the atmosphere started getting aggressive. Residents started gathering around Støjberg,” journalist Martin Torpe, who witnessed the scene, said as cited by DR.

At that moment, the minister’s security detail and police began to push through the crowd as they escorted her to the car. The crowd became more enraged and attempted to prevent her from leaving by blocking the car. In a video of the incident posted by DR, a woman can be seen jumping under the wheels of the moving vehicle, which does not stop. Police said the woman was only slightly hurt and her injuries are believed to not be serious.

The minister was joined by several lawmakers and journalists on the visit and was filmed for DR. The unrest was reportedly triggered by Støjberg’s decision to speak with only one family of Kurdish asylum-seekers, with rumors circulating that the family would be granted asylum afterwards.

“They had baked cakes, bought flowers and made signs on which the words ‘we are not criminals’ are written. But we are all [considered to be] problems, so all she did was go in and talk to one chosen family,” Valid Rahmatti, one of the residents of the center, told Politiken. Following the incident, Støjberg thanked her security and driver for keeping her safe. “Without you it could have ended completely wrong,” she wrote on Facebook.

Denmark took in around 21,000 refugees at the height of the European refugee crisis in 2015. The following year, it only accepted 6,072 people and cut social benefits for refugees in half. As a result of the policy change, 532 asylum-seekers voluntarily left the country last year.

On Wednesday, the Migration Court of Appeal ruled that Bibihal Uzbeki was in “a very bad state of health, which may deteriorate drastically,” overriding an earlier decision made by the Swedish Migration Agency.

“From a humanitarian perspective, it would be shocking to require her to travel to her home country,” the judge said.

The woman was given “a time-limited residence permit for 13 months,” expiring on July 19, 2019, after which she can apply for an extension, her grandson, Mohammed Uzbeki, told AP.

Although the Swedish migration agency’s policy is that age is irrelevant when deciding asylum, the court decided that special consideration must be given in this case, where the plaintiff is extremely old and is in such poor health.

Uzbeki fled her home in Afghanistan in fear of the advancing Taliban terrorist group militants in 2015, with her journey later making headlines in international media.

The woman made her way across Iran, Turkey, Greece and Croatia before ending up in Skaraborg, Sweden.

Since she found it hard to walk, her son and grandson had to carry Uzbeki much of the way before they were eventually given a wheelchair.

Her bid for asylum in Sweden was rejected in June, with the authorities considering sending the 106-year-old back to Afghanistan.

Once one of the most welcoming countries for asylum seekers and refugees, Sweden tightened up its immigration laws in 2016 to ease the pressure on its infrastructure, amid the anger of right-wing parties.

As a result, the Nordic country received over 160,000 asylum applications in 2015, but only 30,000 in 2016.

Despite the ongoing Taliban insurgency, the Swedish migration agency doesn’t consider arrivals from Afghanistan to be at the highest levels of risk.

Kelly’s spokesman, David Lapan, told CNN and Politico on Wednesday that Kelly has been informed by legal experts within and outside of the White House that DACA, or the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals, will likely be struck down as unconstitutional in a US court.

Kelly shared that information with Democrats in the Congressional Hispanic Caucus and also told them that he personally supports the program.

However, he wouldn’t say the same about the rest of the Trump administration, most notably Attorney General Jeff Sessions, an immigration hardliner who would shock many if he directed the Department of Justice to defend DACA in court.

The DACA program was instituted in June 2012 by President Barack Obama, who said the executive action was necessary as Congress had failed to pass comprehensive immigration reform.

Critics called the move an abuse of power, and President Donald Trump promised to terminate the program during his 2016 campaign.

Mixed signals have come out of the Trump administration on the matter ever since. Immigrant advocacy groups applauded Trump just fives days after he took office, when he told ABC News that so-called “dreamers,” people who came to the US illegally before reaching the age of 16, “shouldn’t be very worried.”

“I do have a big heart. We’re going to take care of everybody,” Trump said on January 25. “But I will tell you, we’re looking at this, the whole immigration situation, we’re looking at it with great heart.”

Earlier that same day, Vox published a leaked draft of an executive order that would discontinue DACA applications and renewals. That didn’t dissuade immigration restrictionists who had supported Trump and took him at his word that DACA would be eliminated on his first day in office.

In April, as news came out that the Trump administration was approving new DACA applications, Mark Krikorian, director of the Center for Immigration Studies, accused Trump of flip-flopping in an interview with Breitbart News Daily. Around the same time, Trump was telling the Associated Press that those with DACA protection could “rest easy” as his deportation policy would go “not after the dreamers,” but instead “the criminals.”

DACA could be challenged in court as soon as September, when a pending lawsuit will be heard against the related Obama-era program DAPA, which never went into effect but is meant to cover parents of children who illegally entered the US. Ten state attorneys general are challenging DAPA and could easily add DACA to their complaints.

Rep. Nanette Barragan, one of the Democrats who met with Kelly on Wednesday, told CNN that there was “there was a combination of laughter and appalled shock in the room” when Kelly said he was unaware of ongoing efforts to make DACA permanent, such as the bipartisan BRIDGE Act, after telling the group that they should work on a legislative fix.

Kelly appeared next to Republican leadership after the House passed two immigration enforcement bills at the end of last month, but when asked to do the same for Democrats to encourage support for their bills, he did not commit but only indicated he would consider it, CNN reported.

“His urging is that Congress do something,” Rep. Ruben Gallego (D-Arizona) told CNN. “Our urging is: Don’t be a fool. If you truly believe and Donald Trump believes that you should protect DACA, then the government should join and encourage the protection of DACA and fight against his attorney general.”

Pew Research Center has estimated more than 750,000 undocumented immigrants “have received work permits and deportation relief.”

From January 1 to June 24 this year, some 1,300 Europeans were deported, nearly as many as the 2016 total of 1,450 deportations, according to Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), the Associated Press reported.

Magdalena Dolas, executive director of the Polish American Association in Chicago, has said that the organization she belongs to has been asked to give talks about what people should do if immigration officials come to get them at their residence.

Polish and Irish community groups in the city of Chicago have reported experiencing more inquiries about citizenship-related services, in regards to people seeking legal protections against deportation.

John Cunningham, who worked as an electrical contractor, is a well-known Irishman in Boston who came to the US with a 90-day visa over a decade ago. He overstayed and had been in the US up until last week when he was deported. Cunningham had a warrant out for his arrest after not showing up to a court hearing in a dispute with a customer. State records showed he also was not licensed as an electrical contractor, the Los Angeles Times reported.

Ronnie Millar of the Boston-based Irish International Immigration center told the AP that “people are very, very concerned and lying low.”

Approximately 440,000 of the 11 million illegal immigrants in the US are of Irish descent, according to the Migration Policy Institute, the AP reported.

Large numbers of people from various European countries are seeing a high deportation rate so far this year. From the United Kingdom, already 102 individuals have been deported; from Russia, 81; and 74 people from Poland. These countries accounted for the most deportations last year, according to the study.

Romanians are the largest group in the US being sent back to their original country so far this year, with 193 deported, according to the AP.

In 2017 so far, the total number for all deportations by the Trump administration has reached 167,350. This is compared to 240,255 in all of 2016. Mexicans are leading in the deportation category, with 93,000 people sent back to Mexico.

An HIV-positive Russian asylum seeker in San Jose, California, Denis Davydov, may face deportation due to overstaying a visa. He was detained for more than a month after returning from a vacation. Davydov’s lawyer had him released due to his status as a gay, HIV- positive asylum seeker.

Davydov is feeling vulnerable as his hopes of seeking asylum have recently become uncertain.

“Before this I thought I was doing everything right, but I’m afraid now that doing everything right is not enough. I don’t know what else I can do,” he said, adding, “I feel like it can happen again to me anywhere. In the airport or in the street,” the AP reported.

Ali Noorani, executive director of the immigrant rights group National Immigration Forum, has made the argument that the rise in deportations shows the Trump administration is going too far.

“It’s pretty clear ICE is removing anyone undocumented they come across,” he told the LA Times. “The bigger issue is that the Trump administration is wasting really valuable law enforcement resources on many people who aren’t a public safety threat, whether they’re Irish, Latino, Asian or otherwise.”

The report reveals the extent to which the UK government allows convicted extremists to stay in Britain due to concerns they may face inhumane treatment back home.

Published in February, the Home Office report details the impact of the government’s Deportation with Assurances (DWA) scheme, which allows Britain to deport convicted terrorists with guarantees from their home countries they will be treated fairly after extradition. The UK agreed on DWA with Ethiopia, Algeria, Jordan, Lebanon, Libya, and Morocco in 2005.

International law expert Professor Clive Walker, who authored the report along with David Anderson QC, an independent reviewer of terrorism legislation, told the Telegraph: “My research suggests there are more than 40 foreign terrorists convicted in the UK who have avoided deportation using the human rights act.

“The figure is much larger than was previously thought,” he said, adding “the report is finished. It is a substantial piece of work.”

“David [Anderson] has produced other reports critical or not of the Government which have always been published.

“My role in it was to compile a detailed description of the rules and regulations about deportation with assurances. I still think the Home Office wish to pursue DWA,” Walker explained.

Among those who managed to stay in the UK using the Human Rights Act, which applies the European Convention on Human Rights (ECHR) in domestic law, was Siraj Yassin Abdullah Ali, who was released in 2011 after serving just half of a nine-year prison sentence for aiding the perpetrators of the attempted London bombings of July 21, 2005.
