This Morning viewers have seen Ruth Langsford and Eamonn Holmes host This Morning together for 14 years and are hugely popular with ITV viewers. However, it was reported last weekend the duo had been dropped from their slot on Friday’s editions of the morning daytime show. Now, it’s been claimed they could be back on-screen elsewhere as the BBC look to give them a new gig.

Ruth and Eamonn appeared on Friday morning’s edition of the daytime show as normal but it came just days after rumours they had been axed from their roles in a shock move from ITV.

This Morning favourite Alison Hammond and Dermot O’Leary are said to be gearing up to replace them.

The pair had impressed show bosses with their chemistry when they stepped in for Ruth and Eamonn during the summer.

Despite Alison and Dermot’s reported appointments pleasing fans of the hosts, some This Morning viewers were gutted to hear the report that Ruth and Eamonn had been dropped.

However, a TV source has revealed the pair could be making a move to the BBC as the broadcaster looks to poach them after being dropped.

“Eamonn and Ruth have a huge fanbase and are very experienced.

“They can easily carry any number of shows, so producers at the Beeb are considering handing them a format to front,” a source told The Sun.

Express.co.uk has contacted representatives for Ruth Langsford and Eamonn Holmes as well as the BBC for comment on reports.

It comes after reported new host Dermot O’Leary spoke out on the prospect of the new role, noting he didn’t want to “tread on anyone’s toes.”

Speaking to Ireland AM on Thursday, The X Factor veteran said: “Of course, I hope so, but like you said it is always tricky when there are colleagues and friends involved.

“There’s nothing confirmed yet, but you know, we enjoyed doing the summer, so we’d like to do more.’

“But at the same time, you don’t want to tread on anyone’s toes or treat anyone badly,” he added

It’s not yet known when Ruth and Eamonn will be waving goodbye to the ITV show as they continued to appear on Friday morning.

And fans are reluctant to see the pair go, with one fan saying on Twitter: “Ruth and Eamonn absolutely make this morning, stupid to get rid of them #thismorning.”

“@ITV you’ll be mad to get rid of Eamonn and Ruth. Only watch the show on Fridays now for them #ThisMorning,” agreed another.

A third wrote: “#ThisMorning Please don’t get rid of Eamonn and Ruth, they’re Brilliant! I won’t be watching the dreadful Dermot O’dreary.”

This Morning airs weekdays from 10am on ITV.

Anna Faris‘ Mom departure will not stand in the way of Christy Plunkett’s happy ending.

Fans of the long-running CBS comedy can rest easy knowing that Bonnie’s daughter won’t be pushed in front of a moving train, squashed by a baby grand piano, or worse, offed by kung-fu coupon. She also won’t succumb to any one of the many vices she kicked on her seven-year journey with sobriety.

In an interview with TVLine, series co-creator Gemma Baker assures us that viewers will in fact be “satisfied” with Christy’s “new path” when all is revealed in the Season 8 premiere (airing Thursday, Nov. 5, at 9/8c).

“One of the beautiful things about recovery is that quite often people’s lives get bigger and better than they could have imagined,” Baker says. “And that will be Christy’s experience. We are pretty sure that our audience, many of whom have been rooting for Christy since the pilot, will be happy for her and satisfied by her new path.”

Meanwhile, with her daughter out of the apartment, Bonnie finds herself at a crossroads. “Christy’s absence will have a ripple effect on Bonnie throughout the season,” Baker says of Allison Janney’s character. “Part of Bonnie’s journey this year will be to figure out what she wants to do now that she’s actually grown up.”

Part of that journey will involve Adam, as husband and wife adjust to an empty nest. “With all the alone time, [Bonnie and Adam] discover that they actually really like each other,” Baker teases. “So much so that they try to help another couple achieve their level of happiness to mixed results.”

Mom Season 8 - Jill, Bonnie and MarjorieAmong the couples that may or may not need Bonnie and Adam’s help are Jill and Andy, who hit a rough patch early on in Season 8.

“Jill’s desire to move their relationship along causes some friction,” Baker says. “Out of this conflict, Jill will have an opportunity to learn about who she truly is and what she wants.”

Meanwhile, a new relationship will expose “a different side” of Marjorie, says Baker, as Christy’s former sponsor “falls in love with a new fella” for the first time since the death of her second husband, Victor. In turn, “We will also get to see a different side of our other ladies,” including Wendy and Tammy, “when [it’s revealed] they don’t like him.”

News that Faris was walking away from her role as Christy, in order to pursue other opportunities, broke on Sept. 4. At the time, Faris released a statement which in part read, “The past seven years on Mom have been some of the most fulfilling and rewarding of my career. I’m so thankful to Chuck [Lorre], the writers, and my amazing castmates for creating a truly wonderful work experience.”

How do you think Mom will resolve Christy’s storyline, based on the hints above? And what are your hopes for the Anna Faris-less Season 8?

Euphoria: Zendaya opens up on real life inspiration for Rue ‘Not a huge departure’ https://briefnews.eu/euphoria-zendaya-opens-up-on-real-life-inspiration-for-rue-not-a-huge-departure/ https://briefnews.eu/euphoria-zendaya-opens-up-on-real-life-inspiration-for-rue-not-a-huge-departure/#respond Fri, 21 Aug 2020 02:09:24 +0000 https://briefnews.eu/euphoria-zendaya-opens-up-on-real-life-inspiration-for-rue-not-a-huge-departure/

Zendaya stars as a displaced young student named Rue in the widely acclaimed HBO series. Ahead of a possible second season of Euphoria, the Spider-Man star reflected on some real life experiences that inspired her portrayal of the series’ complicated protagonist.

23-year-old star Zendaya has revealed she shares a number of similarities with her television counterpart, Rue Bennett, on the hit HBO series Euphoria.

The actress and model stars as a recovering drug addict who opens the series struggling to stay clean, who quickly befriends a new transgender student named Jules (Hunter Schafer).

The series has been praised for Zendaya’s stunning central performance, as well as effectively tackling real world high school issues such as drug addiction, sexuality and social media.

While Zendaya confirmed she hasn’t shared the difficult experiences of her on-screen persona, the star doesn’t feel her personality is so different compared to Rue’s.

Speaking to Deadline, she said: “I think Rue is kind of a smush of [creator Sam Levinson] and me in our own ways.

“This amazing person that is Rue is formed from our collective life experiences. I’ve always said it but Rue doesn’t feel like a huge departure from who I am.”

As an actress, Zendaya is best known as Spider-Man’s love interest MJ in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, as well as appearing alongside Zac Efron and Hugh Jackman in The Greatest Showman.

Her role in the gritty teen drama Euphoria was seen by some as a departure from her more family-friendly work on the big screen.

However, the star expressed some frustration with those who felt her performance as Rue was a significant departure from her previous roles.

Zendaya continued: “People are always like ‘this is so different’ or ‘this is so far out from what you usually do’, ‘it doesn’t seem like yourself’ and to a degree of course it is.

“She’s very different from me and has a lot of different life experiences and things I’ll never fully understand, but with that being said there’s something that feels so close to me with her.

“I can only understand things to a certain extent because I haven’t personally dealt with addiction. [But] I never feel like I’m putting something on or pretending when I play Rue, it’s just something I slip into.”

Many critics felt Zendaya’s performance was one of the strongest aspects of HBO’s new hit drama, and fans are eager for Euphoria’s heightened high school challenges to continue.

Although the series was renewed for a second season, Euphoria is unfortunately unlikely to be returning any time soon.

Production came to a stop in March this year following the outbreak of coronavirus, and Zendaya confirmed the entire second instalment will be rewritten.

Speaking to guest host Ben Platt on Jimmy Kimmel Live!, Zendaya expressed hopes of a special episode to bridge the gap during the hiatus.

She said: “We can do [an episode] with a limited amount of people in a safer environment that can give people something, because we also miss Euphoria as the people who create it, too.

“And give everyone who loves the show a little something so we have something to live on until we are able to go into season two.”

Speculation has suggested the one-off episode could be achieved via TikTok or Zoom chats, but nothing has been confirmed so far.

Euphoria season 1 is available to stream on HBO Max, or in the UK on Now TV.

13 Reasons Why returns to Netflix for its final season on Friday, closing the book on Liberty High School’s legacy of trauma and giving its characters what Devin Druid calls a “proper sendoff.”

“We were really fortunate that Netflix gave us the opportunity to have this many seasons and write an actual ending,” Druid, who plays Tyler Down, tells TVLine. “Not every show has that same luxury, so I’m really grateful.”

Not only is the show’s final season shorter than its previous three (with 10 episodes instead of the usual 13), but as Druid explains, it’s also “more of a departure from the other seasons, which had a central catalyst that motivated the characters. This season just takes a look at everything these characters have gone through, and the story comes from how they react to all of that. So it kind of goes the opposite way, which I think is really fun.”

13 Reasons Why Devin DruidThe show’s final season forces its characters to confront everything they’ve done, including the painful secrets they agreed to bury rather than work through. (As we saw in the trailer, the ghosts of Bryce Walker and Montgomery Cruz are among those still haunting the hallways.) For Tyler, facing his past may include taking responsibility for the time he brought an assault rifle to the school dance back in Season 2.

“We did see those guns being pulled out of the water at the end of Season 3,” Druid reminds us. “If something like that were to get brought back into play, that would certainly be traumatizing for Tyler. It would also threaten everything he has worked on and built towards in order to make things right. So he’s definitely worried about that. These characters have a few huge secrets that they’re trying to keep under wraps, so everyone has a lot to worry about.”

And while Druid can’t say how Tyler’s story will play out, he feels good about the progress that his character has made during the show’s four seasons. “Tyler doesn’t always make the right decisions, but he’s the first one to take the necessary steps to right his wrongs,” Druid says. “I’ve always appreciated that about him.”

The Walking Dead season 10 spoilers: Michonne star reveals exit twist ahead of departure https://briefnews.eu/the-walking-dead-season-10-spoilers-michonne-star-reveals-exit-twist-ahead-of-departure/ https://briefnews.eu/the-walking-dead-season-10-spoilers-michonne-star-reveals-exit-twist-ahead-of-departure/#respond Mon, 12 Aug 2019 21:57:39 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/the-walking-dead-season-10-spoilers-michonne-star-reveals-exit-twist-ahead-of-departure/

Danai has played Michonne since the third season of the AMC series but season 10 will be her last.

Her exit from The Walking Dead was announced earlier this year although details of the character’s departure have been kept tightly under wraps.

However, Danai has lifted the lid on some of the details surrounding it.

The actor has revealed that she had some input into how her exit would play out.

She told the Los Angeles Times: “I know nothing. But what I will say in my know-nothingness, the great thing about this show is they are very, very, fantastic at creating great structure for everyone’s story.”

“I was in a room where they have all the pictures of people who have left the show, and everyone’s exit has been so specific and really resonate in its own, very original way. And so there was no exception to that in my case, I’m very thankful for that.

“And I was allowed to be a collaborator. But they created a very, very, very sound structure of how Michonne exits, which I was very thankful for.”

But viewers will have to wait and see how Michonne leaves the show in the upcoming series.

The Walking Dead chief content officer Scott Gimple has hinted that it won’t be the last that viewers see of Michonne.

Although Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln) left the programme during the last series, his fate was left open.

He is set to feature in a trilogy of The Walking Dead films that will be released in cinemas.

Scott said of Danai: “She has some amazing things ahead of her and we’re not completely done with her, I’ll say that.

“We’re not completely done with anyone who comes and goes on the show. But she has some amazing things ahead.”

Could Michonne reunite with Rick in the film franchise?

The main series already has one spin-off show in Fear the Walking Dead but another one it set to be released next year.

The as-of-yet untitled spin-off is reportedly scheduled to be released in spring 2020.

It will focus on a younger main cast as AMC have previously teased: “[The series will] focus on the first generation to come-of-age in the apocalypse as we know it.

“Some will become heroes. Some will become villains. In the end, all of them will be changed forever.

“Grown-up and cemented in their identities, both good and bad.”

The Walking Dead returns October 7 on FOX in the UK.

The doctor is out — and he’s bummed about it. Chicago Med‘s Colin Donnell is confirming that he will not be returning to the Windy City-set hospital drama in Season 5.

“Sorry to say that this is true.” the actor behind Dr. Connor Rhodes lamented late Friday on social media, shortly after news of his exit broke. “I love my #ChicagoMed #OneChicago family dearly. And a special thank you to all the fans that have made these last four seasons so amazing.”

Donnell went on to say, “It’s been an honor to be a part of such a great trio of shows and in the [Dick Wolf] family. I know that there’s great things coming for Season 5 and I can’t wait to see what they are along with all you fans.”

The actor also posted a message on Instagram:

As also reported on Friday, Donnell’s Med co-star Norma Kuhling — who plays Dr. Ava Bekker — will also be leaving the series at the conclusion of Season 4. Additionally, Chicago P.D. star Jon Seda is departing that series after six seasons.

In February, NBC issued early renewals to Chicago Fire (for Season 8), P.D. (Season 7) and Med (Season 5). The trio currently air Wednesdays from 8-11 pm, with their season finales slated to air on May 22.

COC names Robin Brudner interim CEO after Overholt's abrupt departure https://briefnews.eu/coc-names-robin-brudner-interim-ceo-after-overholts-abrupt-departure/ https://briefnews.eu/coc-names-robin-brudner-interim-ceo-after-overholts-abrupt-departure/#respond Wed, 05 Sep 2018 18:57:35 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/coc-names-robin-brudner-interim-ceo-after-overholts-abrupt-departure/ Robin Brudner was hired by the Canadian Olympic Committee two years ago to drive change in its corporate culture.

The 55-year-old from Toronto will now lead the organization on an interim basis as chief executive officer.

Chris Overholt is stepping down after seven years as CEO, an abrupt departure, CBC Sports has learned, with staff being notified of his departure only hours ahead of the distribution of the news release.

He has accepted a leadership role with another organization, the COC said Wednesday in a statement, and that organization is expected to make its own announcement soon.

Chris Overholt is stepping down as CEO of the Canadian Olympic Committee. Under Overholt, Canada posted its best medal total at a Winter Olympics in February with 29 medals and matched the country's best performance at a non-boycotted Games with 22 medals in 2016. (Frank Gunn/Canadian Press/File)

Brudner spent almost 18 years working for Maple Leaf Sports and Entertainment, eventually rising to the position of executive vice-president and general counsel.

She was the first female general counsel in the NBA and often the only woman in the boardroom while MLSE built its massive sports empire.

Brudner was the MLSE representative in the 2011 sale of the Ontario Teachers Pension Plan's majority ownership share in MLSE to Bell and Rogers, which was a $ 1.32-billion transaction.

But the COC asked her to do work she had never done before in the aftermath of president Marcel Aubut's resignation in October 2015.

Scathing review

He was accused of sexual harassment by several women, but did not face criminal charges and apologized in a written statement.

The hiring of a corporate secretary, Brudner, was one of several moves the COC made following a scathing independent review of the organization following Aubut's departure.

A report said senior executives knew about, and did not do enough, about harassment in the organization.

"I was hired to make recommendations to improve the governance of the COC," Brudner told The Canadian Press.

"In terms of significant changes, they would have occurred in the first year, but then you have to repeat them and you have to make sure they're ingrained in the culture.

"When I spoke to staff, I said it wasn't about bylaw change, it was about culture change."

Instituting term limits for board members was one change Brudner led at the COC, but clearly defining roles was her priority.

"The key thing was to separate proper board work from operations," she explained.

Noncommittal

"People on staff know they have the authority and autonomy to operate the business. Because of that, people have become more empowered and they understand they are trusted to make these decisions.

"I think they trust the leadership that much more. They know it's a culture of more inclusivity, a culture of collaboration, a culture of growing the trust within the organization.

"These things really make a difference on a day-to-day basis."

Brudner has yet to decide if she'll put her name forth as a candidate for the CEO position going forward.

"The permanent position is one I will think about once we transition," Brudner said. "It's too big an opportunity for me to make that decision without really giving it consideration."

Former rower Tricia Smith was the COC vice-president who replaced Aubut. The COC is responsible for all aspects of Canada's involvement in the Olympic Games, as well as the Pan American Games.

"We went through a succession planning discipline several months ago, and in that process, Robin Brudner was identified as the most qualified and capable person to assume the CEO position should it become vacant," Smith said in the COC's statement.

"Our board reaffirmed that decision by voting unanimously to name her interim CEO and secretary general while we conduct a thorough search to permanently fill the position."

Strong resumé

In June, the COC unanimously approved Calgary as a potential host of the 2026 Winter Games, should the city decide to go ahead with a bid.

"The bid is a huge priority for us and that will be part of the transition discussions I have with Chris," Brudner said.

Under Overholt, Canada posted its best medal total at a Winter Olympics in February with 29 medals, including 11 gold.

Canada's 22 medals, including four gold, at the 2016 Summer Games equalled the country's best performance at a non-boycotted Games.

During his tenure, the COC also instituted the Game Plan program that helps athletes transition from their competitive careers into the professional realm.

"I have had the great pleasure of knowing Robin Brudner for more than 20 years, working alongside her both at Maple Leaf Sports and Entertainment and with the Canadian Olympic Committee," Overholt said.

"She has been one of the most highly-respected and trusted executives in the Canadian sports industry for many years, playing key roles typically behind the scenes on virtually every matter that a sports organization can encounter.

"She has the unique perspective of knowing the inner workings of the office of the CEO, and of our board of directors, and that knowledge will serve her well."

Brudner has a law degree, but says sports and entertainment was always her professional ambition. Her first job in sports was a six-month contract with the then-expansion Toronto Raptors in 1995.

"I have been an Olympic junkie for as long as I can remember," she said.

"When I was a kid I would have loved to be an Olympian and to have this opportunity so many years later, to be part of the Olympic movement and to be here is pretty close to a dream come true from a professional standpoint."
