The Grand Tour is part-way through its fourth season, after the release of its first special, The Grand Tour Presents: Seamen. While the show has expanded its size and scale, so too has its budget. Although the budget is not common knowledge, the cast of the show discussed its budget in an unearthed video. Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond, and James May are usually pretty secretive about the show’s budget – as are Amazon Prime Video. But during a video interview with GQ back in 2017, they touched upon the money being spent on the series. After being asked a question about the show’s budget, the trio were then questioned about the supposed £160 million surrounding the show. But Clarkson quickly hit back at the question, shrugging it off as incorrect. READ MORE: The Grand Tour season 4: Richard Hammond’s crashes cause huge show change – here’s how “It doesn’t take a rocket scientist. There’s no Stig, there’s no track, there’s no dunsfold. What we wanted to protect was the films.” But he went on to say: “It does get hilarious. You’ve got these meetings where it’s like: ‘Can James May still say c**k or is the BBC going to sue?’ “James is then saying: ‘I’ve always said c**k!’ It’s win-win, as if we get sued for James saying c**k that’ll be brilliant. They got funnier and funnier.” To ensure the show is not at risk of becoming involved in any legal issues, Andy concluded: “The lawyers go through everything.” Thankfully, there hasn’t been any legal issues in the show so far, so it is due to continue. The next portion of The Grand Tour’s fourth season has not yet been released, and so far, no release date has been provided. Thankfully, fans know where it will be set – Madagascar – bringing a bright and colourful setting to the gearhead show. The Grand Tour Presents: Seamen is available on Amazon Prime Video now. It would be the height of drama if television bosses decided to shut the Street or Albert Square for good. But TV commentator Mark Lawson suggested they could do just that when he said the end was in sight for the nation’s biggest soaps. Perhaps, though, he was only articulating what many viewers have been thinking. After all, there are only so many rapes, murders and love triangles that can take place in relatively small geographical areas over a given period of time. He told Radio Times that there are only a handful of women in EastEnders that have not been the victims of rape and the bodycount on all the major soaps rises higher with every passing month. TV schedules without Coronation Street seem unthinkable as it approaches its 60th year, but viewing figures are down from 20 million-plus in the 1980s to a mere six million today. EastEnders dropped to an unthinkable 2.91 million viewers for one episode in the summer. That means decreasing revenues set against ever-increasing production costs as writers seek to create more sensational stories including catastrophic fires and plane disasters. Cast numbers have exploded from a stable of around 25 regulars to between 60 and 70 today, pushing wage bills ever higher. That huge list of characters needed to fill the extra hours of broadcast has also left viewers baffled. Increasing from the traditional two to six weekly episodes for Coronation Street and Emmerdale and four for EastEnders, leaves fans struggling to identify with so many different faces. Nigel Pivaro says writers intensify scripts to counteract decreasing production budgets (Image: Collect) It all does sound pretty gloomy. But one senior ITV executive I spoke to doesn’t think things are so bad, and as a former soap producer he knows what he’s talking about. He told me: “It’s all down to the ratings. As long the soaps continue to occupy say, at least 10 out of the top 15 slots in the ratings for any one week, they are doing their job, which is to attract solidly high audiences during early-peak and peak times, delivering a large foundation audience for the rest of the evening output. “All audiences are down because of the proliferation of channels and new platforms, but the soaps’ relative popularity remains high. “What would be interesting to watch is if one of the big broadcasters cracks and cancels one of their big soaps. “Will others follow, or will they relish the less-crowded market and invest in their own favourite? It’ll take a brave programme controller to cancel any of the big serials.” It has happened before, though. Channel 4’s Brookside ended in 2003 after 21 years when producers simply ran out of storylines, not to mention space in which to bury bodies under the patios in the small suburban close in Liverpool. The body count piled up, exhausting credibility and the viewers fell away from millions to just a few hundred thousand in the end. It happened in the US too. Guiding Light – known as the “soap of soaps” – started life on radio, transferred to TV in 1952 but after running for 72 years the show was axed in 2009. The tone of soap storylines has changed hugely. When I first appeared in Coronation Street during the 1980s, storylines were generally very workaday with a big emphasis on humour. The most important thing was establishing the personalty of a character followed by their relationship with other characters. Looking at terrestrial TV today I can’t help thinking that in making people care about the personalities on screen, reality shows such as Love Island have stolen a march on “soapland”. In the 1980s Corrie storylines could appear, by today’s standards, to be mundane. They would centre around Jack Duckworth’s racing pigeon going missing or a chancer trying to muscle in on Eddie Yates’s window cleaning round. But people watched because they had invested in the richly-drawn characters and cared what happened because, often as not, they saw the characters battling and dealing with problems and situations they were confronted with in their own lives. Action-packed storylines did happen, but when they did the ratings were staggering. More than 27 million tuned in to see the Rovers Return burn down, while a similar figure saw dastardly Alan Bradley get poleaxed by a Blackpool tram as he chased Rita across the Promenade. They happened but at a much slower pace than now, in step with how big events unfold in real people’s lives. The key is in keeping things real. Indeed, a friend and former colleague who is still very much part of the show insists that the lifeline for soaps lies in “a back to basics approach with a reliance on strong character-based scripts, actors that keep it real and allow a lovely humour to come through”. He warns: “I don’t think we can do battle with the big dramas who can do dark themes better than us, they have more money and more time. “We don’t need silly walks nor should we try them, just actors who can convey the reality of ordinary lives and are able to squeeze the humour out of real situations.” As long as producers remember that, then it may still be a while before the end credits roll for good… Bradley Walsh, 59, was joined by the Sinnerman star Paul Sinha, 49, on this afternoon’s edition of The Chase as four new contestants tried their luck at winning the jackpot. After 52-year-old Linda was sent home minutes into the game, student Ashley became the first player to make it through to the final round of the ITV quiz show. Contestant Trevor also failed to make it to the Final Chase, with the last player of the day Stuart joining Ashley to claim the cash prize. With £9,000 at stake, Ashley and Stuart gave Paul a run for his money as they built up 20 points between him and the jackpot. The contestants were offered several push-backs as Paul answered Bradley’s questions, but a few of them Ashley and Stuart failed to guess correctly. One question posed to the pair was: “A sequel to what Anna Kendrick musical film came out in 2015?” Whereas Paul passed, Ashley seemed confident she knew the answer by telling Bradley it was Pitch Perfect 2. However, Bradley told her she was incorrect as Ashley had misinterpreted the question, with the host explaining: “It is not Pitch Perfect 2, that was the sequel.” Viewers watching at home weren’t too happy, with one posting on Twitter: “@ITV – “What sequel to what Anna Kendrick musical film was released in 2015?” – they were told it was wrong… but it is Pitch Perfect 2… #TheChase. Another added after Ashley failed to correctly answer another push-back: “That’s a shame. She knew that, David Guetta. Couldn’t recall his name. Feel so sorry for her. Also Pitch Perfect was *almost* a trick question the way it was worded. #TheChase.” READ MORE: The Chase: ‘Does that ring a bell?’ Bradley Walsh SCOLDS contestant after odd confession A third simply wrote: “Oh f**k off #thechase #pitchperfect2,” as Bradley explained the real question being asked. With several failed attempts to push Paul back, the Sinnerman beat the contestants, meaning they walked away with nothing. Bradley said they could have got the jackpot as their was only four seconds to spare if they’d answered the Pitch Perfect question correctly. “Ashley, don’t be so disappointed. You played brilliantly well,” the host told the dismayed contestant. Commending the pair, Paul said: “That was a great game.” “Yet, we all made mistakes,” the Sinnerman continued. “Me and Ashely between us should have come up with David Guetta’s name and if Stuart had got William The Conqueror, the whole thing would have been a very, very different game.” Commenting on the contestant’s efforts, viewers posted on Twitter with one sharing: “What a shame, they did so well! #thechase.” Another opined: “Two easy push backs and couldn’t execute!! Unlucky, but good work #THECHASE.” Whilst a third remarked: “That was so close! #TheChase. Think they could of won if they got Pitch Perfect.” Netflix is denying accusations that the order in which its new animated anthology, Love, Death & Robots, is presented is based on each viewer’s sexual orientation. The curious issue came to light when Out in Tech cofounder/LGBTQ+ tech advocate Lukas Thoms suggested on Twitter that Love, Death & Robots changes up the episode order “based on whether Netflix thinks you’re gay or straight.” Thoms shared side-by-side screen grabs of playlists that open with the official first episode, “Sonnie’s Edge” (in which the titular lesbian hero braves an underground world of “beastie” fights), or, as he put it, one that features “the most realistic and explicit hetero sex.” There are reports that the episode order for Queer Eye‘s new season on Netflix is similarly shuffled. “We’ve never had a show like Love, Death & Robots before so we’re trying something completely new: presenting four different episode orders,” Netflix explained on Twitter. “The version you’re shown has nothing to do with gender, ethnicity, or sexual identity — info we don’t even have in the first place.” The “info we don’t even have” part of the streaming giant’s defense has drawn more than a bit of side-eye since, as Tech Crunch notes, Netflix’s TV show and movie recommendations — including the photos/actors used to promote them — are clearly customized based on aggregated user data. Netflix, though, maintains the Love, Death & Robots issue isn’t about guessing at your sexuality, but just an experiment with non-serialized programming. As it told Tech Crunch, “We want to showcase the variety of shorts within the anthology series in different ways and see what works for our members.”

Huawei isn’t taking kindly to the US’ charges of sanction violations and trade secret theft. A spokesperson told Engadget the company was “disappointed” to hear of the charges and flatly “denies” it or an associated company (namely Skycom) committed any of the crimes in the indictments. It’s also “not aware of any wrongdoing” by CFO Meng Wanzhou, according to the statement (available below). Huawei went so far as to suggest the US was unfair and trying to revive a dead case.
To start, it claimed the trade secret issues had already been “settled” in a civil lawsuit where a Seattle jury rejected allegations of “willful and malicious conduct” and denied penalties on the trade secret claim. The firm also said it tried to discuss an Eastern District of New York investigation with the Justice Department, but that officials had tossed out the demand “without explanation.”
It’s not surprising that Huawei would dispute the charges, which center around allegations of swiping T-Mobile technology and trying to bypass sanctions against Iran. The stakes are high — the company saw how an export ban hobbled ZTE and forced the company to make substantial compromises to earn a reprieve. Huawei isn’t as dependent on US exports (its phones use custom-designed chips, for example), but it knows that a loss in court could still have severe consequences.
“Huawei is disappointed to learn of the charges brought against the company today. After Ms. Meng’s arrest, the Company sought an opportunity to discuss the Eastern District of New York investigation with the Justice Department, but the request was rejected without explanation. The allegations in the Western District of Washington trade secret indictment were already the subject of a civil suit that was settled by the parties after a Seattle jury found neither damages nor willful and malicious conduct on the trade secret claim.
“The Company denies that it or its subsidiary or affiliate have committed any of the asserted violations of U.S. law set forth in each of the indictments, is not aware of any wrongdoing by Ms. Meng, and believes the U.S. courts will ultimately reach the same conclusion.”
Kyrgios suffered his worst ever performance at the Australian Open – eliminated in the first round for the first time in his career in a 6-4 7-6 6-4 scrap with boom-serving Milos Raonic.
Raonic needed just under two hours to wrap up his passage through to a second round match with Stan Wawrinka after proving untouchable on serve. Kyrgios did not get one break point opportunity in the entire contest.
Kyrgios saved his best performance of the night for his media conference where he largely sidestepped prickly questions.
Kyrgios said he hadn’t seen Tomic’s explosive accusations against Hewitt, which included a claim that both Kyrgios and Thanasi Kokkinakis do not want to play for the former two-time grand slam champion.
When asked directly if there is a rift between himself and Hewitt, Kyrgios replied: “Not really”.
When asked about Tomic’s declaration that Kyrgios doesn’t want to play for Hewitt, Kyrgios was again unconvincing in his support of Hewitt.
“I don’t know what to say,” he said.
“I don’t have a big deal with anything. I always want to play Davis Cup. I love playing Davis Cup.”
He said he is not “upset” towards Tomic for dropping his name.
When asked if he supports Hewitt’s captaincy continuing, Kyrgios said with a bored shrug of his shoulders: “Sure”.
Kyrgios also said he will make himself available for the next Davis Cup tie, but conceded he may not be picked after his rankings slide.
“I don’t think I’d be picked though,” he said.
“There’s a lot of good players right now. Alex de Minaur, (John) Millman, they’re all playing great. There’s a lot of depth which is pretty good for us.”
Having been unable to defend his ATP Tour Rankings points from his fourth round appearance at last year’s Open, Kyrgios is expected to slide outside the top 70.
Tomic on Monday night said he has spoken with Nick Kyrgios and Kokkinakis and that both have told him they do not want to play for Australia while Hewitt remains captain.
“It’s all Lleyton,” Tomic said.
“I’m going to say it honestly. Nobody likes him anymore. He’s doing the wrong thing. He’s playing Davis Cup and I thought he’d retired?
“Absolutely. Kokkinakis, Kyrgios, we don’t want to play anymore because he’s ruined the system. I mean, go away. Why are you still in tennis?
“He doesn’t put the players first from what I hear in the past year. He doesn’t put the players first. He doesn’t put Nick First. He doesn’t put Kokkinakis first. He always thinks of himself. It’s not good.”
Hewitt responded to that extraordinary claim by declaring Tomic has thrown both Kyrgios and Kokkinakis under the bus by leaving them to face questions from the media about the rift following their round one matches on Tuesday.
“The disappointing thing that the Aussies men and women had a great day and it was overshadowed by Bernard Tomic,” Hewitt told Channel 9.
“He threw a couple under the bus.
“Those boys [Kyrgios and Kokkinakis] are going on for big matches today … we’ve spoken before the Australian Open and we will continue to speak after the Australian Open leading into the Davis Cup tie.”
Kokkinakis just four days ago described reports he has fallen out with Hewitt as “bulls***”. He then refused to elaborate on his relationship with the Davis Cup captain.
Kyrgios also used his press conference to shower praise on Raonic, declaring he had “never seen anything like” the Canadian’s unstoppable serving display.
He also refused to blame his knee soreness, despite complaining about the injury repeatedly through his match/
When receiving treatment for a second time in between the second and third sets, Kyrgios told the Tour physiotherapist that his knee felt like “dogs***”.
“It hurts to walk, it hurts to rock on my serve, I’ve just given up basically,” Kyrgios said.
“I’ve taken four tablets and it’s gotten worse. It’s f***ing terrible. By this stage, it’s f***ed. It feels like dogs***, mate. Absolute dogs***.”
He earlier called his knee complaint a “joke”.
“It’s f***ing ridiculous,” Kyrgios said to the trainer.
“I put a bucket load of deep heat on it.
“I don’t know how it can get so painful in the space of three games.
“Honestly bro, I don’t really care. I’m trying my nuts off and then my f***ing knee starts flaring up. At this stage I can’t even rock back on my serve .
“This is a joke, I warmed up. It flared up. I feel good, I was feeling fine. I’ve been doing treatments, extended warm-ups, it’s like nothing it working.”
Minnesota Timberwolves forward Andrew Wiggins is denying he used the word "gay" in describing Oklahoma City Thunder guard Dennis Schroder's behaviour during their game on Tuesday night.
Thunder centre Nerlens Noel was taken off the court on a stretcher in the third quarter after Wiggins collided with Noel on a dunk attempt Tuesday night. Schroder, unhappy about the play and other incidents in what was a testy game, eventually was given a technical foul for an altercation with Timberwolves guard Jeff Teague.
After the game, Wiggins, who grew up north of Toronto in Vaughan, thought Schroder's actions were unwarranted and some thought he appeared to say "He was just gay. He was acting crazy for no reason."
Andrew Wiggins said he was not worried about Dennis Schröder trying to step to the Timberwolves. "He was acting crazy for no reason." #thunder pic.twitter.com/gjkEcugVSi

However, the Canadian used Twitter on Wednesday to deny that he made such a comment.
Id like to clarify what I said tonight during my post game media session. I said: “I don’t know what’s wrong with him he was just getting… acting crazy for no reason”.

I have the utmost love and respect for the LGBTQIA community and I would never use any term to disrespect them in anyway.
—@22wiggins
The incident overshadowed Wiggins' season-high 40 points and 10 rebounds in the Wolves' 119-117 victory.
The NBA has fined players for using anti-gay slurs in the past. Denver Nuggets centre Nikola Jokic was fined $ 25,000 US in November for using offensive language during a post-game interview.
Thunder coach Billy Donovan said after the game that Noel was taken to the University of Oklahoma's OU Medical Center. He did not offer details on the injury.
Wiggins said he didn't mean to hurt Noel.
"I just tried to make an aggressive move and dunk," Wiggins said. "He tried to contest it. I think he fell wrong. I didn't really see it until I saw him on the ground. Hopefully, he's good. I hope nothing but the best for him. I hope he gets healthy soon and comes back stronger."
The skirmish between Schroder and Teague came a few minutes after the collision. Two technicals were called on Teague and he was ejected.

Chrissy Metz is “distraught” over an apparent misunderstanding — made significantly worse by social media — that occurred between herself and Alison Brie prior to Sunday’s Golden Globe Awards.
At the end of her interview during the Globes’ official pre-show on Facebook Live, Metz appeared to play along with host AJ Gibson’s sassy set-up to the next red carpet interview, which happened to be Brie. (The actress was nominated for Best Actress in a Comedy Series for her work on Netflix’s GLOW.)
“You know a girl named Alison Brie?” Gibson asked. “Do I!” Metz replied. The camera then cut to Brie’s interview, but Metz and the hosts could still be heard discussing Brie, with Metz’s microphone seemingly catching her saying, “She’s such a [unintelligible word starting with b].”
The video of Metz allegedly dissing Brie immediately caught Twitter’s attention, circulating the video and gathering reactions.
“I’m so distraught and upset,” Metz tells People. “I don’t speak about anyone like that I don’t speak like that. I love Alison, I follow her. … When I was walking up they said, ‘Do you know Alison,’ and I said, ‘Oh boy, do I.’ I love her.’”
Metz’s rep echoes the actress’ sentiment, adding, “Chrissy never said that. She would never say that about anybody. She’s a huge fan and friend of Alison Brie.”

By airing allegations of sexual misconduct with the New York Times on Sunday night, the Australian-born actor Yael Stone faces both the challenge of confronting the most powerful man in Australian theatre, but also running the gauntlet of Australia’s upside down libel laws.
A young Australian stage actor who had informally made a complaint late last year with the Sydney Theatre Company over Rush’s alleged “inappropriate behaviour,” has found this out to her own detriment, being called as the star witness in a defamation case derived from her own complaint to the theatre that employed both her and Rush.See the rest of the story at Business Insider

An attempt by Nigeria’s president to reassure his countrymen that he is alive, and wasn’t replaced by an impostor during a long medical leave, failed to convince everyone because that’s exactly what a clone would say, isn’t it?
Rumors of a double or a clone ruling the country instead of President Muhammadu Buhari have plagued the minds of Nigerians for roughly a year ever since the 75-year-old returned from his medical treatments in the UK, looking all reborn.
One of the questions that came up today in my meeting with Nigerians in Poland was on the issue of whether I‘ve been cloned or not. The ignorant rumours are not surprising — when I was away on medical vacation last year a lot of people hoped I was dead. pic.twitter.com/SHTngq6LJU
— Muhammadu Buhari (@MBuhari) December 2, 2018
When publicly confronted and asked if he was an impostor by a member of the Nigerian community in Poland, Buhari finally addressed the rumors, slamming them as irresponsible, but reassuring the audience he was the real deal.
It’s the real me, l assure you.
Yet such a direct but seemingly prepared answer managed to convince just a few of his Twitter followers, who noted that only a genuine impostor would answer that question this way.
clone or clone, it is u we want. Ur clone is far better than them Wen they are in power.
— Ambrose (@Ambrose81564938) December 3, 2018
Remove your cap for once let's see the bald head of Buhari we knew in 2015. Let's have presidential media chat which you've bn avoiding. Which presidential debate are you planning to be part of? When wl you tell us the much you know Nigeria, ruling by proxy is your modus, why?
— Samson Uchenna Eze (@Samsino79) December 2, 2018
This act of yours is a confirmation of what Nnamdi KANU is saying. That you're a body double, a Jubril from Sudan. The issue is simple, take off your cap, do a media chat in Nigeria. Is it so hard? Who are you? Jubril? Sudanese?Who?The shadows and shrouds of a so called president
— CHYCHY CHUKWU (@CHYCHYCHUKWU) December 3, 2018
I wish I was the President for just this moment. I would have said: "Yes, it is true that I was cloned. This is Jibrin speaking and I take telepathic directives from Buhari.
— Chuks Cashie (@realchukscashie) December 2, 2018
Conspiracy theories about the president sprouted like mushrooms after Buhari took a number of trips to the UK last year to seek medical treatment for an undisclosed malady. While the presidency repeatedly rejected rumors that the head of state was terminally ill or dead, failure to disclose his illness prompted rumors that the president could have been cloned. Another rumor suggests that the top seat is currently occupied by an impostor, namely an imaginative Jibril Aminu of Sudan.
Take a look at his hands and fingers, does it look 80 years old sick Buhari finger,No !
Is obvious This is an imposter jubril from Sudan, even Obama gets older as US president but Buhari all of a sudden gets younger and fresher as a president ,Why can’t black man investigate pic.twitter.com/CMm6X45WDN— IgboAwake Org (@IgboawakeOrg) November 29, 2018
