Kingdom Come Deliverance has been given a new update on PS4, Xbox One and PC.

According to the update 1.4 patch notes, the big new update fixes over 200 major bugs and glitches.

That’s on top of brand new hair and beard mechanics, which includes the ability to gain extra charisma when you cut your hair.

Developer Warhorse has also entered into the Easter spirit, adding a traditional Czech Easter-themed weapon, and a golden egg hunt.

And with the Resurrection Day approaching fast, some non-playable characters have risen from their graves.

And perhaps more exciting is the addition of the free HD Texture and Audio Pack DLC on PC.

As the name suggests, the HD Texture and Audio Pack drastically improves the audio and visuals.

“As a special treat, we’re releasing the first free DLC – HD Texture & Audio Pack for PC which together enhance the visual and audio experience of Kingdom Come: Deliverance.

“HD Textures boost the overall graphics of Kingdom Come: Deliverance to create an ever more lifelike look at 1403 Bohemia.

“HD Audio is available for all three voiceover languages (English, German and French) and enhances all in game voiceovers and sounds.”

Console fans are waiting for the next big Kingdom Come Deliverance patch to arrive.

Included in it should a be a host of fixes that are badly needed, with quest-breaking bugs stopping player progress.

KCD 1.3 is already out on PC, with developers Warhorse handling the Steam version and QuickSilver handling more of the console stuff.

And there’s been some big release date news confirmed this week for those waiting for the PS4 and Xbox One Kingdom Come update.

Warhorse’s Daniel Vàvra has announced that for console players, the new patch will probably arrive in the next week.

The 1.3 patch has been in the console certification process since March 9, and barring the weekend that could mean a launch on Friday.

“Patch info time! 1.3 for consoles is being certified,” Vavra reveals.

“Early next week (if everything goes according to plan) we will release 1.3.4 for PC which will fix random events and add some cool new features.”

“Approx week later we will release 1.4 with lots of bugfixes and cool new stuff.”

In an earlier tweet, Vavra adds: “Patch 1.3 is out on PC and sent to certification on consoles (so it will be available in few days).”

While Vavra doesn’t provide an exact date, the console certification process usually takes around 5-10 days, depending on what kind of problems are found.

The Xbox One is known to take longer than the PS4, so we could see something arrive this week on one platform, and the patch on another the week after.

Fans will be hoping for the new update to arrive as soon as possible, as it includes some big changes.

The game’s Save and Exit process will launch with the new patch, as will an Improved lockpicking system.

  • The game now has Save and Exit feature.
  • Saving is much more robust and saves won’t get corrupted even if the game crashes while saving.
  • Performance improved
  • LoD switching tweaked, reducing pop-in and improving texture streaming.
  • Stuttering in some areas reduced.
  • Slightly smoother framerate on Vsync 30. (Consoles and some PCs)
  • Improved lockpicking
  • New interface design makes it much easier to hold the sweet spot while turning the lock.
  • Easy and Very Easy trunks are now easier to lockpick when playing with a controller. (Mouse difficulty unchanged)
  • Improved pickpocketing
  • You will no longer get caught if you stop at the beginning of the minigame. (Unless someone sees you)
  • The risk indicator is now much more precise. When green, you are sure not to get caught.
  • Alchemy bench will no longer shoot you into the air.
  • The last quest with Lord Capon is now visible on the map when he is ready to assign it to you.
  • Guards won’t frisk you so often.
  • Your horse shouldn’t get stuck when jumping fences.
  • Horse items are cleaned along with player items in bathhouses.
  • You can see when looking at a bed whether it will save your game.
  • You can sleep on beds without having to sit down first.
  • Levelling up stealth by sneaking past enemies is more consistent.
  • Sneaking past sleeping NPCs is now easier.
  • Some easily accessible trunks with extremely good loot have been removed.
  • Cave mushrooms can now be found in many other damp places.
  • You can no longer autocook potions that you haven’t brewed by hand at least once before.
  • German voiceovers will no longer cut off in mid-sentence in cutscenes.
  • Late game player strength tweaked
  • Some combat perks that were unintentionally overpowered were tuned down.
  • Weapons scale less with high-level stats.
  • It should now be much harder to kill high-level enemies with one hit. (Unless they’re helmetless. Stupid Runt…)
  • Other combat system tweaks
  • “Untargeted attack” exploit fixed.
  • Enemy combat archery AI improved.
  • Guards now react to combat more aggressively.

A new build for the console version of the game is now available to download on Microsoft’s Xbox One.

The new Kingdom Come Deliverance update weighs in at a hefty 9.9GB, meaning a long download for some.

This new KCD patch is already out on PS4 and PC, with the Xbox One certification process known to take longer.

Version 1.2 release notes aren’t very thorough when it comes to details, simply listing these as changes being made to the game:

  • Stealth and Stealth kills adjustment
  • People now get dirty more gradually
  • Additional quest bugs fixed
  • Various optimizations

Here’s how the process of patching the game works, according to developers Warhorse: “When we finish any patch we can’t just upload it and send it to you immediately.

“There is a certification phase in which platform holders check whether the patch is stable.

“This process takes various amounts of time on different platforms. This is the reason why the patches are released at different times.

“However, they check not only stability but also platform-specific requirements, for example, whether the controllers are named correctly, whether you can change user mid-gameplay etc.

“If we fail any of these platform-specific requirements, we have to upload a correction just for that specific platform. This is the reason why we are releasing a different number of patches on each platform.”

According to the game’s community managers, the Warhorse team give the Patch to Deep Silver, who are the ones that actually communicate with Microsoft.

It should also be noted that this is not the Kingdom Come Deliverance 1.3 update, which is another patch that is likely to land on PS4 and PC, before Xbox One.

“This is the patch we are currently working on,” a message from Warhorse explains.

“It hasn’t been released on any platform yet. It’s mainly focused on bug-fixing as we are studiously going through every player report, watching every stream we can and fixing all the bugs as fast as possible.

“But apart from these fixes, we are working on the following features – Which is not a guarantee of delivery in this patch:

  • Save and Exit functionality
  • Lockpicking minigame controls improvement on controllers
  • Pickpocket minigame improvement
  • Alchemy recipe for respec potion
  • Many quest related bug fixes

Kingdom Come: Deliverance is already a hit, having sold over 300,000 copies just on Steam. The open-world historical role-playing game came out on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC on February 13. But Warhorse Studios’ game is experiencing performance issues on all platforms.

YouTube channel Digital Foundry has created a video comparing the game running on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 4 Pro, Xbox One, and Xbox One X. You can watch it above.

All versions of the game have problems with muddy textures and pop-in. The PlayStation 4 and Xbox One releases suffer from uneven framerates that are capped at 31 fps. The PlayStation 4 Pro and Xbox One X versions run better, but they can still drop down to framerates in the 20s.

Digital Foundry notes that the Xbox One X runs the game best, although it still has its problems.

Although Digital Foundry doesn’t cover the PC version, Kingdom Come also has performance issues on that platform. The game is attracting fans with its realistic take on medieval role-playing, but some performance patches could enhance the experience.

I’ve just started on my quest in Kingdom Come: Deliverance, and I’m not sure what to think about it yet. The medieval open-world adventure — that I’ve started describing as “Skyrim minus fantasy” — takes its time before unleashing you on its world, so I’m still unsure what options I have to solve any particular obstacle. But I found out organically that committing crimes is often a means to achieve certain ends even if it’s in a roundabout fashion.

Kingdom Come is out now on PC and consoles. It’s beautiful thanks to developer Warhorse’s use of the powerful CryEngine development kit, but it’s also quite buggy with a tendency to crash. I’m only a few hours in, which means that my parents are dead, my village is gone, and I’ve found myself embroiled in the matters of the state. But as I started playing today, I was facing a basic challenge: leave town.

After the lengthy intro, I ended up in one of the small hamlets that is on lockdown due to an invading force — y’know, your standard Holy Roman Empire stuff. I wanted to return to my home to bury my family because that’s what the game told me to do, but the guards wouldn’t let me leave. Eventually, after flexing my pectoral muscles, one guard gave me the idea to dress up as a guard to sneak out on patrol.

This is when things went wrong for me.

I spent a couple of minutes scouring the town looking for unused armor, but I gave up after clumsily sneaking through a couple of homes. My impatience eventually convinced me to take the renegade route.

I guided the hero of Kingdom Come, a boy named Henry, to a remote part of the village where a guard was standing alone. My plan was to knock him out and take his gear before anyone knew what was up. I attempted to knock the soldier out from behind, but my chokehold did not take. The guard spun around, raised his fists, and started swinging. Without thinking, I drew my sword — and then I immediately regretted that decision when the guard and his newly arrived friend pulled theirs out as well.

After realizing the errors of my ways, I put away my sword and surrendered. And because I didn’t have any money, they threw me in a jail cell for the night.

And that’s when everything went right for me.

After rotting away for the evening, I woke up with the guard telling me to piss off … and then they let me go outside of the town. I was free. I had figured out how to get out of the village, and all I had to do was punch someone a little bit. And I think this is the lesson for all you kids out in the world: Crime often pays — at least in Kingdom Come.
