The murder of 21-year-old medical volunteer, Razan Al-Najar, is a direct violation of all “international treaties and conventions” that ensure the protection of the medical staff in the conflict zones, Palestinian Minister of Health, Jawad Awwad, said late Friday, noting that the shooting of the paramedic must have been “deliberate” and amounted to a “war crime.”

The volunteer was shot in the chest by the Israeli Defense Forces on Friday near the border fence east of Khan Younes, in the southern Gaza Strip, while she was helping wounded Palestinians.

While the Israeli military has yet to comment on Najar’s death, an anonymous witness told Reuters that, at the time of the tragedy, the medical worker wore a white uniform, which clearly distinguished her from the rest of the Palestinian crowd taking part in the 10th weekly Great March of Return protests.

Furthermore, the medical volunteer “raised her hands high in a clear way, but Israeli soldiers fired and she was hit in the chest,” the witness told Reuters.

Najar became the latest victim of the Israeli crackdown on protesting Palestinians at the Gazan border. More than 100 protesters were injured by Israeli fire, including 40 by live bullets, directed at them by the IDF during the 10th Great March of Return rally. Another four paramedics were among those wounded while helping the injured.

The shooting of a medical worker is a “heinous crime committed by the occupation forces,” the Palestinian Minister of Justice, Ali Abu Diak, said in a statement, calling on the International Criminal Court to document Israeli brutality and to “try leaders, officials, officers, soldiers” and all those who committed “crimes against humanity.”

International humanitarian law affords special protection to medical personnel whose mission is to save lives in conflicts, under four Geneva Conventions of 1949. Article 24 was especially adopted to protect “medical personnel exclusively engaged in the search for, or the collection, transport or treatment of the wounded or sick.”

The West Bank’s ruling Fatah party also condemned the murder of the 21-year-old medic. “This crime…reflects a terrorist fascist mentality that deliberately kills, destroys and persecutes [Palestinians],” spokesman Osama al-Qawasmi said in a statement.

Fatah also condemned Washington’s move on Friday to veto an Arab-backed UN draft resolution which called calling for protective measures for the Palestinians. Qawasmi stressed that the “veto” used by the United States encourages the Jewish State to continue its crimes against the Palestinians.

Over 120 Palestinians have so far been killed since the beginning of the Great March of Return, mainly by live Israeli fire amid the raging protests at the Gaza-Israel border, which began on March 30. Thousands of others have been injured as Israel maintains its right to protect the border by all means necessary.

SAN FRANCISCO (Reuters) – Democratic attorneys general across the United States on Sunday condemned President Donald Trump’s order to restrict people from seven Muslim-majority countries from entering the country and are discussing whether to challenge the administration in court.

Democratic attorneys general are expected to be a source of fierce resistance to Trump, much like Republican attorneys general opposed former President Barack Obama’s policies. A lawsuit brought by states would heighten the legal stakes surrounding the president’s executive order, signed late on Friday, since courtroom challenges have so far mostly been filed by individuals.

Trump put a 120-day hold on Friday on allowing refugees into the country, an indefinite ban on refugees from Syria and a 90-day bar on citizens from Iran, Iraq, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, Syria and Yemen.

The attorneys general from 15 states and the District of Columbia said in a joint statement they would work together to fight to ensure the federal government respected the Constitution.

The officials that signed the statement represent California, New York, Pennsylvania, Washington, Massachusetts, Hawaii, Virginia, Vermont, Oregon, Connecticut, New Mexico, Iowa, Maine, Maryland, Illinois and the District of Columbia.

“Religious liberty has been, and always will be, a bedrock principle of our country and no president can change that truth,” the attorneys general said.

The New York attorney general used Twitter on Sunday to appeal to travelers detained at New York’s JFK airport to contact his office.

The states could decide not to file lawsuits, and it was unclear how many would ultimately sign on for such an effort.

Trump, a businessman who successfully tapped into American fears about terror attacks during his campaign, had promised what he called “extreme vetting” of immigrants and refugees from areas the White House said the U.S. Congress deemed to be high risk.

He told reporters in the Oval Office on Saturday that his order was “not a Muslim ban” and that measures were long overdue.

Federal judges in three states followed a U.S. judge in New York in barring authorities from deporting travelers affected by Trump’s executive order. Judges in Massachusetts, Virginia and Washington issued rulings late Saturday or early Sunday.

The federal judge in New York said stranded travelers could stay in the country. The American Civil Liberties Union, which sought the emergency court order, said it would help 100 to 200 people with valid visas or refugee status who found themselves detained in transit or at U.S. airports after Trump signed the order.

The Department of Homeland Security said it would comply with judicial orders but that Trump’s immigration restrictions remained in effect.

President Donald Trump’s order Friday banning immigrants and visitors from seven Muslim nations is being met by both harsh and somber verbal resistance from top tech sector leaders—from Apple to Y Combinator. The move was racist, affected perhaps thousands of tech workers, and was un-American, the executives said in tweets, e-mails, Facebook posts, blog posts, and in LinkedIn entries.

Steve Altman, president of the startup mentorship program Y Combinator, urged the tech sector to “take a stand” against the order that has launched a wave of chaos throughout the immigration system and prompted protests nationwide.

Altman said the executive order “is tantamount to a Muslim ban and requires objection. I am obviously in favor of safety and rules, but broad-strokes actions targeted at a specific religious group is the wrong solution, and a first step toward a further reduction in rights.”
