Even though the throwaway reference to Wendy’s brother wasn’t intended to create a whole new storyline for future seasons, Linney’s idea eventually led to the introduction of Ben.

Finally, she added: “We came up with that in the boat, Jason and I, and they wrote the line in. After that, there were jokes throughout the first two seasons like ‘when’s the brother gonna show up?’”

Luckily, viewers had their patience rewarded and the Netflix series eventually paid off Wendy’s concerns with her brother in the latest season, with shocking results.

Ozark season 3 is available to stream on Netflix.

Davis calls Barnier’s bluff over Brexit trade deal – ‘Germany call us TREASURE island!’ https://briefnews.eu/davis-calls-barniers-bluff-over-brexit-trade-deal-germany-call-us-treasure-island/ https://briefnews.eu/davis-calls-barniers-bluff-over-brexit-trade-deal-germany-call-us-treasure-island/#respond Thu, 23 Jan 2020 18:14:41 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/davis-calls-barniers-bluff-over-brexit-trade-deal-germany-call-us-treasure-island/

Tory MP David Davis explained the EU is already showing cracks in their Brexit  trade negotiation tactics. While on ITV Good Morning Britain (GMB) Mr Davis explained the UK had other nations like Japan very interested in trade deals with Britain post-Brexit. He added the EU will eventually cave in and give the UK a great trade deal as they consider the UK “Treasure Island” because of how much money they make from the country.

Mr Davis said: “We actually have a whole load of options out there.

“We have got the Trans-Pacific Partnership, that probably will happen on January 1.

“The Trans-Pacific Partnership is an organisation of countries, mostly around the Pacific ocean, not entirely, it does not include America but it does include Japan.

“Japan is desperate for us to be a part of it.

“Why do they want that? Because when we come along a load of other countries will think to join as well.

“That is a big partnership for us and it is big on services.”

GMB panel guest Kevin Maguire then raised the point about us not doing as much trade with the European Union.

Mr Davis quickly replied: “It is £200billion us to them and £300billion them to us.

“They are saying, oh we are not going to give as good a deal as Japan or other countries.

“Why would they do that, when we are right on their doorstep, The EU sells more to us than we do to them.

“They call us ‘Treasure Island’ because they make so much money here.

“That is what the Germans call us, Treasure Island.

“They are not going to walk away from that, so this is the time.”

  • New Orleans Pelicans superstar Anthony Davis announced his desire to be traded on Monday.
  • Just hours after the news became public, the Pelicans posted a picture to Instagram celebrating “True Teammates,” which some saw as a shot at Davis.
  • While it’s possible the timing of the post was a coincidence, the awkward situation is a good illustration of the tension that now exists between the franchise and its star player.

Anthony Davis is set for an awkward few days with the New Orleans Pelicans.

The perennial All-Star told his team on Monday that he wanted to be traded, and his agent didn’t mince words to express his desires.

Anthony Davis REQUESTS trade: Lakers on red alert as LeBron James agent drops shock demand https://briefnews.eu/anthony-davis-requests-trade-lakers-on-red-alert-as-lebron-james-agent-drops-shock-demand/ https://briefnews.eu/anthony-davis-requests-trade-lakers-on-red-alert-as-lebron-james-agent-drops-shock-demand/#respond Mon, 28 Jan 2019 13:06:52 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/anthony-davis-requests-trade-lakers-on-red-alert-as-lebron-james-agent-drops-shock-demand/

The stunning report comes from NBA expert Adrian Wojnarowski, who spoke to Paul about Davis’ desire to leave.

He wrote on Twitter: “Agent Rich Paul has notified the New Orleans Pelicans that All-NBA forward Anthony Davis has no intention of signing a contract extension if and when presented and that he has requested a trade, Paul told ESPN on Monday.”

Wojnarowski then quoted Paul as saying: “Anthony wants to be traded to a team that allows him the chance to win consistently and compete for a championship.

“Anthony wanted to be honest and clear with his intentions and that’s the reason for informing them of this decision now.

“That’s in the best interests of both Anthony’s and the organization’s future.”

Paul is the long-time agent of LeBron James, who is desperate for Davis to join him at the Lakers.

The Pelicans can offer Davis a supermax deal worth $ 240million in the summer.

But the 25-year-old, a five-time All-Star, has repeatedly held off making a decision on his future until now.

The Lakers are the favourites to get him now if they put forward an enticing enough offer.

The NBA trade deadline closes on February 7 so the Lakers face a race to convince the Pelicans.

Last week, NBA legend Reggie Miller claimed the Pelicans could be enticed into a trade for Davis if Kyle Kuzma is put in a package.

“That would be huge if they could get Anthony Davis,” Miller said on The Dan Patrick Show.

“I’m hearing rumblings in New Orleans. The whole finger issue, granted I think he is hurt, but if they get a chance to get Anthony Davis to play alongside LeBron James…

“When LeBron comes back, it’s not etched in stone that they’re going to go on another run.

“They had just built up playing together and playing well when he went down.

“What are they now? Five and nine without him and now they’re in 10th place in the Western Conference.

“No Ball for another month and Rondo is on the verge of coming back.

“It’s time maybe for Magic Johnson and Rob Pelinka to make a big move.

“The question is, who are you going to give up?

“To me personally, Kuzma can not be in the deal but I have a feeling he will be.

“He will be in the deal. Who has been the best player on the Lakers besides LeBron James? He [Kuzma] has to be in the deal unfortunately.”

NBA news: Anthony Davis to Warriors, LeBron James worry, Kevin Durant SHOCK Knicks deal https://briefnews.eu/nba-news-anthony-davis-to-warriors-lebron-james-worry-kevin-durant-shock-knicks-deal/ https://briefnews.eu/nba-news-anthony-davis-to-warriors-lebron-james-worry-kevin-durant-shock-knicks-deal/#respond Fri, 28 Dec 2018 06:17:20 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/nba-news-anthony-davis-to-warriors-lebron-james-worry-kevin-durant-shock-knicks-deal/

Anthony Davis

Anthony Davis is wanted by Golden State Warriors, according to ESPN’s Zach Lowe.

Los Angeles Lakers and Boston Celtics have been long linked with a move for the MVP-calibre power forward.

But sources have apparently told Lowe that the reigning champions Warriors are also mulling over a scoop for the Pelicans star.

However, there is a major problem in that the Warriors can ill-afford to send any of their leading men as part of a trade for Davis.

“The Warriors have been publicly linked to Davis before and would surely be interested, sources say,” Lowe wrote.

“But it’s hard to find a realistic path ahead of next season. They aren’t trading [Steph] Curry or [Kevin] Durant for him; Durant is a free agent anyway.

“Draymond Green probably isn’t enticing enough as a centerpiece considering what little else the Warriors have in draft picks and young players.

“Klay Thompson is a free agent too, and it seems unlikely he would agree to a sign-and-trade sending him to New Orleans.”

LeBron James

LeBron James could take a number of weeks to return to action after picking up a groin injury, according to Golden State Warriors star Steph Curry.

Curry has only recently returned to full fitness after spending almost a month out injured with the same problem and he offered advice to his cross-state rival.

“You got to take those first four or five days, that was what my experience was, to make sure you don’t do any more damage,” Curry told The Undefeated.

“You have to let the healing process start. That is one you can’t really rush. That is how I felt because it was such a delicate area.”

Kevin Durant

Kevin Durant could be tempted into a move to New York Knicks, according to NBA pundit Shannon Sharpe.

Durant is in the last year of his Golden State Warriors contract and can walk away as a free agent next summer.

“Warriors, I would be a little concerned,” Sharpe told the Undisputed.

“It sounds like to me, and KD knows this, he is never going to get the credit he deserves winning Championships there.

“If he goes to the Knicks and wins one Championship it would be worth more than the three [with the Warriors] if he was to win one this year.”

Lakers news: Anthony Davis deal hope, LeBron James and Magic Johnson comparison https://briefnews.eu/lakers-news-anthony-davis-deal-hope-lebron-james-and-magic-johnson-comparison/ https://briefnews.eu/lakers-news-anthony-davis-deal-hope-lebron-james-and-magic-johnson-comparison/#respond Thu, 11 Oct 2018 03:20:57 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/lakers-news-anthony-davis-deal-hope-lebron-james-and-magic-johnson-comparison/

Anthony Davis deal backed

The Los Angeles Lakers have what it takes to trade for Anthony Davis if Brandon Ingram fulfils his potential this season.

That’s the opinion of ESPN pundit Max Kellerman.

Get More Sports reporter Chris Sheridan claimed that Davis is considering the Lakers among four teams, as well as the Boston Celtics, New York Knicks and Philadelphia 76ers.

It is reported that Davis’ future will be decided by how well the Pelicans do in the first half of the new season and that if they are not competing at the top end of the Western Conference, the five-time All-Star could request a trade.

Davis is under contract for two more seasons in New Orleans and has a player option for 2020-21, with the Pelicans likely to require a handsome package in return for parting with their star man – widely regarded one of the league’s best players.

But Kellerman told ESPN programme First Take that it is a possibility.

He declared: “Yes, the Lakers have enough to get Anthony Davis I believe. We have to see how the season pans out. If Brandon Ingram had a catastrophic injury and Lonzo Ball doesn’t develop at all, obviously your assets aren’t what you think they are.

“But if this trajectory holds true for Ingram, that’s an All-Star player. He’s exceptionally young and has the potential to be an All-Star two-way player.

“He starts hitting the three eventually and then what doesn’t he do? Defend, pass the ball, he can run the point at his height, slash, get to the rim, the whole thing.

“He’s their crown jewel of all the draft picks but, and [Kyle] Kuzma can really shoot the ball and if Lonzo develops, there’s literally no price too high to pay for Anthony Davis if you’re the Lakers because he’s already the main competition for Tim Duncan in terms of the greatest power forward who ever lived.

“His peak is already better than Karl Malone, Charles Barkley, Dirk Nowitzki, Kevin Garnett and these are some of the greatest players who ever lived.

“Did any of those guys achieve the overall ability that Anthony Davis has already achieved? I would say no. When you have an all-time player like that in his prime, what price is too high to pay even if they say they want Ingram, Kuzma and another player.

“What package will be put together that’s better than a package centered on say, Brandon Ingram? You have to look around, if no other team can put together a better package or is willing to – then that’s the one that is going to do it.”

LeBron lure will pay off – Scott

Lakers icon Byron Scott is confident that the lure of playing with four-time MVP LeBron James will allow the team to put another superstar alongside him in the purple and gold.

The 2019 free agency class is expected to be packed with high-profile options including Kevin Durant, Klay Thompson and Kawhi Leonard.

The Lakers seemingly pinned their hopes on landing Leonard next year after allowing him to go to the Toronto Raptors, having been unwilling to part with assets to take him from the San Antonio Spurs.

And they were ultimately left having to go into the upcoming season with James as the only current All-Star on the team, giving them a big challenge to challenge in the Western Conference alongside the likes of back-to-back champions the Golden State Warriors and the Houston Rockets.

But Scott – a three-time NBA champion with the Lakers in their Showtime era of the 1980s who was also the team’s coach in 2014-15 and 2015-16 – believes James is similar to the legendary Magic Johnson and that as a result, the Lakers can add big pieces around him to strengthen their hopes of championship contention in years to come.

Scott told The Jump on ESPN: “Absolutely [they can sign a big-name free agent]. When I look at LeBron, I think of Magic Johnson. Guys are saying, ‘In this league, it’s difficult to play with LeBron’. Why? How?

“He makes everybody better. He’s a willing passer, he’s all about the time. Magic Johnson, same thing.

“Do I think he can attract a guy? Absolutely. I think there’s a free agent superstar that’s looking at this team and is going to keep their eye on this team the whole season to see how they’re doing and see if they can be that final piece to the puzzle to get them to the point where they can challenge Golden State next year.

“I do think without a shadow of a doubt that he can attract another superstar to this Los Angeles team.”

Milos Raonic seals Canada's Davis Cup victory over the Netherlands https://briefnews.eu/milos-raonic-seals-canadas-davis-cup-victory-over-the-netherlands/ https://briefnews.eu/milos-raonic-seals-canadas-davis-cup-victory-over-the-netherlands/#respond Sun, 16 Sep 2018 22:12:11 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/milos-raonic-seals-canadas-davis-cup-victory-over-the-netherlands/

Milos Raonic dispatched Scott Griekspoor in three sets to give Canada a 3-1 win over the Netherlands on Sunday afternoon in their Davis Cup world group qualification playoff at Toronto.

Raonic, from Thornhill, Ont., beat Griekspoor 7-6, 6-3, 6-4, for his second win of the five-match tie.

Denis Shapovalov of Richmond Hill, Ont., won his singles rubber on Friday night, while Toronto's Daniel Nestor and Vancouver's Vasek Pospisil lost their doubles rubber on Saturday.

Griekspoor was subbed in for No. 44 Robin Haase an hour before the match. The 27-year-old was making his Davis Cup debut and is ranked 224th on the ATP Tour. He peaked at No. 205 in the world on Aug. 6.

Haase lost a lengthy five-set match to Shapovalov on Friday night, while Raonic had a brief three-set win over Thiemo de Bakker earlier that night, making him better rested.

Raonic, No. 20 on the ATP Tour, was the highest-ranked player in the tie.

Despite being a lopsided matchup on paper, Griekspoor came out strong, taking a 3-1 lead in the first set. Raonic leaned more and more on his big serve, firing nine aces to Griekspoor's one to battle back and take the set.

Raonic took firm control of the match in the second set. He added six more aces and finished off the frame when Griekspoor's volley return went wide.

He put away the third set with back-to-back aces. Raonic finished with 23 aces to Griekspoor's five.

The 46-year-old Nestor was honoured in a pre-match ceremony where he was inducted into Canada's Tennis Hall of Fame.

Nestor's skill in doubles competition made him invaluable to Canada at the Davis Cup, as he competed in 53 ties over 25 years, a reliable doubles competitor who earned a team-best 33-13 doubles record and was 15-15 in singles rubbers.

Nestor won eight Grand Slam doubles titles over his lengthy ATP Tour career with a variety of partners and won gold for Canada at the 2000 Sydney Olympics with Sebastien Lareau. He and Vasek Pospisil finished fourth in the 2016 Rio Games. In 2002, Nestor peaked as the top doubles player in the world.

Epic Shapovalov comeback gives Canada 2-0 lead in Davis Cup tie vs. Netherlands https://briefnews.eu/epic-shapovalov-comeback-gives-canada-2-0-lead-in-davis-cup-tie-vs-netherlands/ https://briefnews.eu/epic-shapovalov-comeback-gives-canada-2-0-lead-in-davis-cup-tie-vs-netherlands/#respond Sat, 15 Sep 2018 03:46:59 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/epic-shapovalov-comeback-gives-canada-2-0-lead-in-davis-cup-tie-vs-netherlands/ Denis Shapovalov battled back for a five-set win over Robin Haase as Canada took a 2-0 lead versus the Netherlands on Friday night in the second rubber of their Davis Cup draw.

Shapovalov, from Richmond Hill, Ont., struggled with his returns in the first two sets, but then re-focused before ultimately beating Haase 3-6, 3-6, 7-5, 6-3, 6-4.

The most evenly matched pairing of the five-match international competition, Shapovalov is No. 34 on the ATP Tour's world rankings and Haase is 44th. They were 1-1 in their previous ATP Tour matches.

After spraying his returns all over the court for the first two sets, Shapovalov seemed more focused in the third.

Serve rounded into form

Shapovalov saved several points before an overhead smash that Haase didn't even swing at gave him the third set, bringing the partisan Canadian crowd to its feet.

That momentum carried over to the fourth set, with Shapovalov's serve rounding into form. He blasted an ace past Haase for the set point, taking his total up to four aces in the set, when he had combined for seven in his previous three.

Shapovalov fell behind in the tightly contested fifth set, trailing three games to one but took back-to-back games to tie it. Haase took a 4-3 lead but the 19-year-old Canadian came right back, winning the next quickly.

He took his first lead of the set, 5-4, when Haase's return went into the net. He then put away the match with a strong return down the line that Haase stopped short on.

Shapovalov's win came after Milos Raonic manhandled No. 236 Thiemo de Bakker in three sets to give Canada a 1-0 lead in the first rubber of the draw. Raonic overpowered de Bakker 6-3, 6-2, 6-2, relying on his big serve for 23 aces to the Dutchman's three.

Raonic was reluctant to say he gave Canada any sort of momentum with his victory.

Canada's Milos Raonic reaches to make a return in his win over the Netherlands' Thiemo de Bakker during their Davis Cup match on Friday in Toronto. (John Blacker/Canadian Press)

"Maybe it does set the tone in some ways, but as much as this is a team event, once you step out on the court you're there trying to figure out your own things," said Raonic, who is the top-ranked Canadian on the ATP Tour, rising up to No. 20 worldwide after his run to the fourth round at the U.S. Open at the start of September.

"Tennis, no matter what, will be an individual sport other than doubles. Those things don't change."

Raonic missed every Davis Cup tie since 2015's 3-2 win over Japan in Vancouver due to injury and his inclusion on the team has helped make it what many have touted as Canada's best-ever Davis Cup entry. Despite that long layoff from the international competition, he improved to 11-1 when playing on home soil in the Davis Cup.

Played in Coca-Cola Coliseum at Toronto's Exhibition Place, home of the American Hockey League's Toronto Marlies, the hard-court match had a hockey atmosphere. Fans wore red and white, waved Canadian flags, banged drums, and clapped thundersticks together during stoppages in play.

Nestor's last match

Several times the chair umpire had to ask fans to quiet down with a terse "please," or "thank you." In the fourth set of Shapovalov's match against Haase the chair umpire had to threaten a fan with ejection when he kept making noise during the players' serves.

"I think this event, here, has very unique possibilities," said Raonic, who is from Thornhill, Ont., a suburb north of Toronto. "I think if you look at the outer population of Toronto, with the suburbs included, I think there's almost a quarter of Canada's population living here.

"I think there's a very big opportunity for people to come out and support tennis."

Toronto's Daniel Nestor and Vancouver's Vasek Pospisil will team up on Saturday in the doubles rubber, facing Matwe Middelkoop and Jean-Julien Rojer.

The singles matchups will flip on Sunday, with Raonic playing Haase and Shapovalov taking on de Bakker.

UFC 228: Zabit Magomedsharipov continues rise with stunning kneebar win over Brandon Davis https://briefnews.eu/ufc-228-zabit-magomedsharipov-continues-rise-with-stunning-kneebar-win-over-brandon-davis/ https://briefnews.eu/ufc-228-zabit-magomedsharipov-continues-rise-with-stunning-kneebar-win-over-brandon-davis/#respond Sun, 09 Sep 2018 12:02:22 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/ufc-228-zabit-magomedsharipov-continues-rise-with-stunning-kneebar-win-over-brandon-davis/

Russia’s Zabit Magomedsharipov added to his burgeoning reputation as one of the featherweight division’s best prospects by beating Brandon Davis with a rare kneebar submission at UFC 228 in Dallas on Saturday night.

After a cautious opening, Magomedsharipov cranked up the pressure in round two, peppering his opponent with knee shots and punches, before taking him to the mat.

The Russian brought proceedings to an end by flipping Davis over while on the American’s back, before applying the kneebar and forcing him to tap with just over a minute to go in the round.

Despite the apparent gulf in class – with Davis stepping into the bout at 11 days’ notice, replacing the injured Yair Rodriguez – it was nonetheless an impressive performance from Magomedsharipov.

The Dagestani native, who moved his career record to 16-1, including 4-0 in the UFC, said after the bout that he was still keen on taking on Rodriguez, but that he was also setting his sights on a potential match-up with Chad Mendes or Jose Aldo.

“I’m very happy with the UFC and the matchmakers because the only thing I was worried about is if they would find me a new opponent on time,” the 27-year-old said, according to MMA Junkie.

“I put so much work and focus to get prepared for UFC 228, that I didn’t want to lose the opportunity of fighting in this card.

“I mentioned I want to fight Chad Mendes or Jose Aldo next, because if you want to be the best, you need to fight the best.”

Magomedsharipov’s victory over Davis was reportedly only the third kneebar submission in UFC history, but was remarkably the second of the night after Aljamain Sterling earlier defeated Cody Stamann by the same method.

After the win, the Russian was lauded for his performance as he continues to be touted as one of the biggest prospects at 145 lbs.

The fighter has also won praise from MMA expert Robin Black, who has hailed him as part of a “new generation” who will take the sport to the next level.

“He is a wonderfully gifted, talented fighter…. Maybe gifted is not the right word, because he wasn’t born with these skills, he’s created these skills and put them together in a modern context,” Black told RT Sport.

“Fighting like all things evolves… the modern fighters like Zabit, they don’t box, then kickbox, then wrestle, then do jiu-jitsu. To them, they see that as what the old people did… they just fight, it’s free-fighting, it’s innovative, it’s improvisational.

“They train their body’s ability to move freely, and they train their mind’s ability to explore in the moment.

“So they’re never wrestling or boxing or kickboxing or grappling, they’re just fighting, and that’s the next stage,” Black added.

READ MORE: ‘Khabib can 100% knock out McGregor’: Robin Black analyzes UFC 229 scenarios

The MMA analyst also said the sports biggest star, Conor McGregor, took a similar approach.

“There are others like him, we’ve seen others like him, it is what [Conor] McGregor – as much as we see his left hand throwing punches – it is a principle of the game he wants to play, or believes he’s capable of playing, but he has been able to win with only a portion of it.

“These fighters, that’s the next generation… that is the next level, he’s not alone there, but he’s at the front end of it.”

WOODLEY BEATS TILL TO RETAIN TITLE

On the card’s main event, Tyron Woodley retained his welterweight belt in style by beating Darren Till via second-round submission.

Woodley finished the British fighter, nicknamed ‘The Gorilla’, with a D’Arce choke inside the last minute of round two – capping an impressive display in which he overwhelmed Till from the outset.

The American set the stage for the denouement by dropping Till with a vicious right hand early in the second round, before pounding away at his stricken opponent and then transitioning to the choke, forcing the UK fighter to tap.

It was an aggressive, well-rounded performance from Woodley, who after the bout called out his “haters.”

“There’s a lot of people hating against me but there’s more people with me… It feels awesome. I’m a student of the game.

“Whenever I name a name, I don’t get a good response. Whoever they put in front of me, I’m gonna beat them up,” said ‘The Chosen One’, who moves to a record of 19-3-1.

Till, who was bidding to become only the UK’s second ever UFC champion, after Michael Bisping, conceded that he had been well beaten in the bout at the American Airlines Center in Dallas.

“Tyron was the better man, s*** happens. I’m just gutted. There’s no excuses. Make no mistake I will come back stronger. The goal doesn’t change,” said the fighter, 25, who was handed his first professional defeat and moves to 17-1-1.

Trailers are an under-appreciated art form insofar that many times they’re seen as vehicles for showing footage, explaining films away, or showing their hand about what moviegoers can expect. Foreign, domestic, independent, big budget: What better way to hone your skills as a thoughtful moviegoer than by deconstructing these little pieces of advertising?

This week we get chummy with a killer, have our sanctity violated by a pack of drunken roustabouts, get ourselves a date by swiping right, follow along with Robert Davi as he sings Sinatra, and watch a teen girl get some supernatural powers.

The Dig

When you have a debut that looks as self-assured as what directors Andy and Ryan Tohill have done here you can’t help but feel they have a solid future ahead of them. What is a story about a “paroled, amnesiac killer [who] is confronted by his victim’s father” seems to be weighed down, in a good way, by the emotions involved on all sides of this issue. We don’t get much in the form of a narrative but what makes this such a solid trailer is just how spartan it is. Very little use of words, heavy on the emotion, and keeping things wrapped up in a mysterious bundle for us to try and unpack. Such a fan of the talent on display.

The Most Beautiful Couple

Revenge. I am a fan of these kinds of stories if for no other reason than it supposes an interesting question: If you were violated how far would you go to right that wrong? Writer Andre Dubus did with his short story “Killings”, which became In the Bedroom, and it did it masterfully. Director Sven Taddicken looks to be going down that same path. No one died as a result of these hooligans’ actions, but the morality play performed in front of us gets complex. You have two victims and, therefore, two ways of looking at how revenge factors in their healing process. The trailer is edited well in how quick we get right to the heart of the issue and, more importantly, what’s at stake for each of those who have been aggrieved.

Swiped: Hooking Up In The Digital Age

I’m old and should have zero opinion on this, but I do remember a time when it was all about using your friends to act as intermediaries to find out if someone you liked was single. Fast forward a couple of decades, and now there’s an app for that. Director Nancy Jo Sales who notably wrote the Vanity Fair article “The Suspects Wore Louboutins,” which became the basis for The Bling Ring, is uniquely qualified to talk about the intricacies of youthful behavior. This time she’s examining the dating lives of millennials as seen through the lens of dating apps. The story is a fantastic sociological examination into phenomena that has commoditized dating as we know it; or, at least as those looking for a mate realize it. The trailer tees up the issue wonderfully, and this seems like a leisurely stroll through a world some of us have never visited.

Davi’s Way

This may all be as real as an episode of Keeping Up With the Kardashians, but Robert Davi is one of our generation’s most celebrated character actors. From Goonies, to Die Hard, to Showgirls, the man has been in over 160 films. Director Tom Donahue is along for the journey of Davi trying to recreate the magic of Frank Sinatra’s “Main Event” concert at Madison Square Garden on Sinatra’s 100th birthday. The trailer shows a lighter side, an exacting side, an obnoxious side, to Davi and, again, whether this is all a put-on or not the singing is quite real and I’m here to see where this nutty path leads.

At First Light

I need more Saïd Taghmaoui in my life, and his appearance here caught my eye. As well, director Jason Stone looks to have made a movie that is kinda-sorta like 2012’s Chronicle but, for some reason, this has some charm all its own. You have a young girl who gets some supernatural abilities, has a little E.T. vibe tossed in there for good measure, and, overall, feels like a tiny movie with big ambitions. Whether or not the entire thing works, I can’t say, but at least it does a respectable job of selling a teen movie that looks thoroughly watchable.

Nota bene: If you have any suggestions of trailers for possible inclusion in this column, even have a trailer of your own to pitch, please let me know by sending me a note at Christopher_Stipp@yahoo.com or look me up via Twitter at @Stipp
