Warning: This article spoils the ending of Dash & Lily‘s first season. Haven’t watched? Grab a blanket and head over to Netflix. You’ll thank us later. Between the iconic location (New York’s famed Strand Bookstore), the perfect time (New Year’s Eve at midnight) and the ludicrously romantic ambience (literal fireworks!), the final scene of Dash & Lily‘s first season finale is about as perfect as it could be. Is it any wonder why executive producer Joe Tracz says it’s his favorite page-to-screen moment in the Netflix series? “First of all, I think anyone who loves books has that dream of getting locked in a bookstore overnight,” Tracz tells TVLine. “And to have that as the ending, with the two of them kissing at midnight on New Year’s Eve, was what we always wanted. These characters spent so much of the season apart, so we really wanted to make that moment feel sweet and special. We shot that in The Strand overnight, so we were filming it at like three o’clock in the morning. Even with how brain-fried everyone was, the chemistry was still there. I’m really proud of that scene.” Though Netflix hasn’t officially renewed Dash & Lily, there’s certainly plenty of story to be mined from Rachel Cohn and David Levithan’s book series — and Tracz is as ready to make a second season as he is ready for Pixar to produce Collation for real. “I would love to be able to go back and do the second book and third book,” he says. “The third book was actually written on set. David and Rachel would visit the set, and they’d be working on their chapters for the third book. I love these characters so much and the city that they live in. Knowing that there is more story to be told, those are stories I’d love to tell.” Meanwhile, Austin Abrams (aka Dash) is playing things by ear, telling TVLine that he won’t read the other Dash & Lily books unless he knows the show is being renewed. “I’m waiting to see what’s going to happen before I fully immerse myself,” he says. “I haven’t fully gone into it because I don’t know what’s going to happen.” (Something tells us Abrams can go ahead and order a copy of that second book.) Were you satisfied by Dash & Lily‘s romantic conclusion? Grade the finale (and the season overall) below, then drop a comment with your full review. Netflix’s newest romantic comedy is fun, addictive and an excellent reminder of the power of pen on paper in a world dominated by social media. But more than any of that, it’s Christmas porn. Set and filmed in New York City at Christmastime (production wrapped in December 2019), Dash & Lily is a bittersweet escape into a pre-pandemic holiday wonderland, one where differences are forgotten, love conquers all and you never know when you might find yourself at a Jonas Brothers concert. Star Austin Abrams always knew that the New-York-at-Christmas aspect of the show would be a huge draw, noting that showrunner Joe Tracz was “adamant about all the locations being as authentic a possible,” but he could never have predicted the additional emotional value of displaying a world without the coronavirus. “That turned out to be one of the show’s biggest strengths, which we had no idea was going to happen,” Abrams tells TVLine. “But I am happy that it does supply people with that nostalgic feeling.” The magic begins in Episode 1 at famed NYC bookstore The Strand, where Abrams’ character — a wealthy, mildly pretentious teenage Grinch named Dash — discovers a mysterious red notebook left by a romantic, Christmas-loving stranger named Lily (played by Midori Francis). She promises to reveal more about herself if he completes a series of dares, from doing a dramatic reading of Joni Mitchell’s “River” in front of the entire bookstore to boldly carrying around a copy of The Joys of Gay Sex. Any way you shake it, it’s hardly a typical experience at The Strand. “It was crazy to be in these places and have free rein,” Abrams says of the many iconic New York landmarks featured in the show’s first season, from Macy’s Herald Square to Grand Central Station. “You’re used to walking through tons of people everywhere, so it was really crazy to be able to walk around and have it all to yourself.” Following a failed sting operation and a traumatic brawl with a department store Santa, Dash ends the premiere on a high note, having finally nabbed a clue about Lily’s secret identity — her first name. What transpires in the following handful of episodes is an endearing back-and-forth between two people who won’t meet face-to-face for quite some time. “The production schedule very much mirrored the show in that aspect,” Abrams says. “I’d show up to shoot my scenes, and [Midori] would leave. Then it would be her turn, and I’d leave. So it was very similar to how the show is. She and I have such a great connection, so I wish we had more scenes together, but I do love that the audience gets to put everything together along with the characters.” Will you follow Dash & Lily‘s romantic adventure — based on David Levithan and Rachel Cohn’s young-adult book series — to its potentially happy conclusion? Grade the premiere below, then drop a comment with your thoughts on the series. Dash & Lily’s Book of Dares is getting the TV treatment. The young-adult novels, written by Rachel Cohn and David Levithan, will serve as the inspiration for Netflix’s holiday-themed series Dash & Lily, TVLine has learned. Production on the first season, which will feature eight 30-minute episodes, has already begun in New York City. Per the series’ official description, “a whirlwind holiday romance builds as cynical Dash and optimistic Lily trade dares, dreams, and desires in the notebook they pass back and forth at locations all across New York City, finding they have more in common with each other than they would have expected.” Austin Abrams (Euphoria) stars as Dash, “an only child born and raised in New York City. He is a smart and cynical teenager whose maturity, wisdom and sophistication are advanced for his age. Barely tolerating the forced merriment of the holidays, he’d prefer to be alone watching depressing foreign films. Dash can be quite charming, despite his sour feelings on the holiday season.” Midori Francis (The Birch) also stars as Lily, a “smart and hopeful New York City teen with a stubborn optimism and youthful energy. Despite her bubbly and passionate demeanor, she possesses a raw and honest vulnerability. The holidays are her favorite time of year, and this holiday season, Lily is looking for love.” Additional series regulars include Dante Brown (Lethal Weapon) as Dash’s adventurous best friend Boomer, and Troy Iwata (New Amsterdam) as Lily’s “romantic, impulsive” older brother Langston. They’re joined by a slate of recurring cast members, including Keana Marie (Huge in France) as Dash’s ex-girlfriend Sofia, James Saito (Altered Carbon) as Lily’s overprotective grandfather Arthur, and Jodi Long (Sullivan & Son) as Lily’s “eccentric, theatrical” great aunt Mrs. Basil E. Joe Tracz (A Series of Unfortunate Events) will serve as writer and showrunner, executive-producing alongside Shawn Levy and Josh Barry (for 21 Laps), Nick Jonas (for Image 32) and Brad Silberling, who will direct the first two episodes. Additional directors include Fred Savage (Modern Family) and Pamela Romanowsky (Riverdale). Book authors Cohn and Levithan are co-executive producers. Dash & Lily will premiere sometime in 2020. (credit: Tor/Orbit) Author Ann Leckie may not be the first to explore the consequences of ruling sentient beings and dueling AIs within a book, though her award-winning sci-fi novel Ancillary Justice and its sequels suggested there were still new storytelling ideas in the conceit. For instance, what if that dystopian-future lens was applied to the fantasy genre? The answer comes in Leckie’s newest book, The Raven Tower, and it’s the first in a fantasy series that focuses on mysterious gods and the kingdoms they watch over. It’s a challenging first installment that will capture the interest of fantasy nerds if they can grasp all of this world’s moving parts—including some that the gods themselves don’t fully understand.

Bragi isn’t willing to wait for the court to resolve its dispute over OnePlus’ use of the word “Dash.” The audio device maker has filed for a preliminary injunction that would block OnePlus from using the Dash name in association with its products while the trademark dispute unfolded. While OnePlus had signaled that it was “phasing out” use of the Dash Charge name for its fast power technology in favor of Warp Charge, it allegedly refused to say whether or not the upcoming OnePlus 6T would adopt the new naming scheme. Bragi had to make this move to “ensure” the 6T launch didn’t violate its trademark, according to the filing.
The company reiterated some of its justifications for the trademark dispute, including claims of similar branding, similar categories and the increasing likelihood of overlap (such as OnePlus’ Bullets Wireless earbuds). However, it acknowledged that it didn’t have evidence of “actual confusion” among customers and argued this shouldn’t affect the outcome.
A hearing for the injunction is slated for December 12th.
We’ve asked OnePlus for comment. It’s reasonable to presume that the company will object to the potential injunction, though, especially if the 6T is still using anything Dash-branded. If the court grants Bragi’s request, it could disrupt 6T sales mere weeks after the phone’s November 6th release. OnePlus can change the packaging and software references, of course, but that’s likely something it would want to avoid at this stage.

Do you see much of a connection between smart earbuds and fast smartphone charging? No? Bragi would beg to differ. The audio company has sued OnePlus in the European Union for allegedly infringing on its trademark for the Dash. According to Bragi, OnePlus is purposefully sowing confusion with the Dash Charge feature in its phones, which sounds similar to the Dash Charger case that tops up Bragi’s wireless earbuds.
Bragi is already in the midst of a federal lawsuit against OnePlus in the US. To back up its case, Bragi pointed out that both the US Patent and Trademark Office and the EU’s Intellectual Property Office had shot down OnePlus’ bid to register a Dash Charge trademark.
We’ve asked OnePlus for comment.
Is there much real-world confusion? Practically speaking, no. You probably aren’t expecting to get Bragi technology when you buy a OnePlus 6, just as you likely don’t think Bragi is using OnePlus technology to keep your earbuds charged. However, Bragi might feel compelled to sue regardless. There is a “use it or lose it” aspect to trademark law in some countries — if you don’t defend the trademarks you have, you risk losing the ability to enforce them. Bragi wouldn’t want to risk more companies using the Dash name and diluting its branding.

Most microSD cards are perfectly fine for your smartphone. Your dash cam or home security camera, however? That’s another story — that non-stop video recording can be brutal on cards that aren’t designed for continuous writing. Enter Samsung with its Pro Endurance card. The new microSD range reportedly endures about 25 times longer than other “speed-focused” cards, handling up to 43,800 hours of 1080p video recording on a 128GB model. That’s five years of around-the-clock use, folks. There’s a chance your camera stops working before the card does.
All of the cards are water, temperature, magnet and X-ray resistant, and they come with a full-size SD card adapter for cameras and card readers that use the larger format. Samsung is unsurprisingly charging a premium for the Pro Endurance line in its 32GB ($ 25), 64GB ($ 45) and 128GB ($ 90) flavors, but they might save you money in the long run if you don’t have to burn through cards like they’re going out of style.

With an increasing number of drivers opting to fit their vehicles with dash cams, bad driving footage is spreading across the internet.
From dangerous overtake manoeuvres to bizarre and unexpected road users, dash cam footage captures daily life on the road.
Having captured a number of deadly road incidents, dash cam footage is now used in court to prosecute drivers, naming and shaming those who thought nobody was looking.
One recent incident in Chester lead to the prosecution of an Audi driver after his dangerous driving was caught on camera.
Filmed on a road in South Gloucestershire, this shocking footage captures a van driver attempt a very dangerous move.
While driving along the A4174 ring road approaching the Dramway Roundabout in Pucklechurch, a white van can be seen approaching a junction.
Filmed from the dashboard of a car behind, the white van suddenly realises it is in the wrong lane and starts to pull out.
However, as the van switches lane late, the car behind has been given little time to slow.
The white van shows no indication that he has seen the speeding car behind and continued to pull out.
As both vehicles speed towards one another, it looks as if a nasty crash is about to unfold.
Just in the nick of time the car behind with the dash cam pulls into the slip road and misses the van by inches.
While breaking hard, the dash cam car narrowly sails past the white van and appears to carry on driving.
Hopefully, the van driver will think twice before rapidly changing lanes again.
However, it’s not just dangerous driving that dash cameras have a habit of capturing.
Previous footage caught the moment a pedestrian attempted to teach a bad driver a lesson.
Filmed in Russia, dash cam footage shows the car approaching a pedestrian crossing at speed.
As the car draws closer to the crossing, a pedestrian using the walkway becomes upset.
The man looks angry as he approaches the car, clasping his hands in rage.
It what appears to be an attempt to teach the driver a lesson, he punches the car bonnet.
After this bizarre outburst, he seems unfazed and proceed to carry on walking.
