The Premier League doesn’t restart until September 15 as stars jet off around the world to play for their countries.
City’s rivals for the title – Liverpool, Manchester United, Chelsea, Tottenham and Arsenal – all lose almost all their stars to international duty.
But City have an extraordinary list of key players who are not turning out for their country.
Brazilian quartet Ederson, Danilo, Gabriel Jesus and Fernandinho have all been overlooked for friendlies with United States and El Salvador, which will be played in New Jersey and Washington.
Argentina are also in the States for games against Guatemala and Colombia but Sergio Aguero and Nicolas Otamendi have been left out.
Jorge Sampaoli was sacked as Argentina boss after the World Cup and interim-boss Lionel Scaloni has overlooked the City pair.
World Cup winners France will call on the likes of Paul Pogba of Manchester United and Chelsea’s N’Golo Kante and Olivier Giroud – but Aymeric Laporte and Eliaquim Mangala are both missing.
David Silva has retired from international duty with Spain while Raheem Sterling has withdrawn from the England squad due to a back problem.
The 23-year-old has won 44 caps for his country, scoring twice, and made six appearances at the World Cup in the summer as England reached the semi-finals.
But he and his team-mates will now get an extended rest ahead of the Fulham clash on September 15.
Liverpool, meanwhile, have more than 20 players on international duty including Alisson, Virgil van Dijk, Mohamed Salah and Roberto Firmino.
Tottenham and Arsenal too have a host of players flying around the world as do Manchester United – although Alexis Sanchez is going nowhere.
Sanchez dropped out of Chile’s squad to face Japan and South Korea with their coach Reinaldo Rueda claiming pressure had been exerted by the Reds.
But that’s been refuted by Jose Mourinho, who said: ““I didn’t ask Alexis – and I never ask players not to go away.
“I also never contact national teams for players not to go. It’s a personal thing between him and the national manager.
“At the same time, coming from injury, Alexis feels that for him it is a much-needed two weeks off.
“He is still in conditions to play against Burnley but he feels that after that he needs two weeks to put himself in good shape.
“And because they are friendly matches in Asia, they made a decision for his good and by consequence for our good.”
HOW MANY PLAYERS WHO STARTED LAST PREMIER LEAGUE GAME ARE NOT ON INTERNATIONAL DUTY?
SEVEN
Man City – Ederson, Aymeric Laporte, Fernandinho, David Silva, Raheem Sterling, Sergio Aguero, Gabriel Jesus
SIX
Arsenal – Petr Cech, Hector Bellerin, Shkodran Mustafi, Mesut Ozil, Matteo Guendouzi, Alexandre Lacazette
THREE
Chelsea – Cesar Azpilicueta, David Luiz, Antonio Rudiger
TWO

Facebook is taking action to halt the spread of hate speech and misinformation in Myanmar, banning Senior General Min Aung Hlaing, the Myawady military TV network and other people and groups. It said that international experts, working with the UN Human Rights Council, “found evidence that many of these individuals and organizations committed or enabled serious human rights abuses in the country.” In total, it removed 18 Facebook accounts, 52 pages and one Instagram account.
The UN has just released a damning report accusing the Myanmar military of genocide against the Rohingya, writing that the it was “killing indiscriminately, gang-raping women, assaulting children and burning entire villages.” Over 25,000 Rohingya have been killed and over 700,000 have fled to Bangladesh. The UN further recommended that those responsible be tried for “atrocious crimes, instead of more hollow condemnations and expressions of concern.”
Today, we are taking more action in Myanmar, removing a total of 18 Facebook accounts, one Instagram account and 52 Facebook Pages, followed by almost 12 million people. We are preserving data, including content, on the accounts and Pages we have removed.
Facebook acknowledged that it was “too slow to act” on the problem, which first surfaced over a year ago. It only took action belatedly at the urging or six organizations that condemned Facebook for the way it handled the spread of misinformation early in the conflict. The was further inflamed by the Facebook’s Free Basics internet service, which it has since pulled from Myanmar and other markets.
Facebook launched an investigation into the problem earlier this month, but its move to ban military figures is its most significant yet, and will likely draw the ire of the Myanmar government. It seems to be timed with the release of the UN report, which came just minutes before. Facebook listed several posts it pulled, including one posing as an innocent news post that instead “covertly pushed the messages of the Myanmar military.” It also removed content that violated its community standards.
Facebook said that by banning the military accounts, “we want to prevent them from using our service to further inflame ethnic and religious tensions.” At the same time, it has promised to preserve the data in the banned pages. The UN hopes that individuals in the military responsible for the genocide will be held to count, and called for them to be brought before the international criminal court (ICC).

]]>The home side started the day’s play only 20 runs ahead, but behind a brilliant AB de Villiers innings and the tail wagging, South Africa forged a big first-innings lead.
After eventually cleaning up the batting attack, Australia started their second innings following the lunch break and despite a promising start from David Warner and Cameron Bancroft, the wheels quickly fell off.
Kagiso Rabada wasn’t letting the fact he’s facing suspension from the series get in the way of breathing fire into the contest, as he ripped through Warner and screamed in the opener’s face.
Usman Khawaja played the role of saviour for the Aussies as he scored his first half-century in South Africa for seven years.
Here were the major talking points from day three.
ACCUSATIONS FLY IN SHADY CONSPIRACY
Former Australian fast bowler Ryan Harris has accused South Africa of having underhanded motives in accusing David Warner of ball tampering.
Reports emerged following day two the home side’s batsmen raised questions about the amount of tape on Warner’s hands and the impact that was having on the ball when he was shining it.
But Harris says there’s no substance to the allegations, instead believing the Proteas are trying to get Warner suspended for a Test match. The Aussie opener was slapped with three demerit points for his ugly altercation with Quinton de Kock in Durban and per ICC regulations, any player who incurs four demerit points within a 24-month period will be suspended for one Test or two limited-overs matches.
“I think their allegations are a little bit frivolous,” Harris told Channel Nine’s Sports Sunday. “They’re obviously looking for something to pin on him — he’s one step away from suspension as we’ve heard over the last week.
“The time I played with Davey he had all that strapping on his fingers and unless there’s something rough like sand or glass on that tape then that’s not going to do anything with the ball.
“To get roughness on the ball he’s got to rub the tape or rub something on the ball — he’s not doing that, he’s rubbing it with his pants.”
South African quick Kagiso Rabada will be lucky to escape punishment for bumping into Steve Smith after dismissing him on day one and Harris says the fiery paceman has nobody to blame but himself.
“I look at that and as a bowler the batter’s got right of way. You’ve got to move, you’ve got to make sure you’re away from the batter,” Harris said.
“To me, that is avoidable. If he takes half a step to his right he doesn’t touch him. We all know you’re not allowed to touch anyone, you shouldn’t be touching anyone, not even a little brush.
“For me that is absolutely avoidable so I’ll be very surprised if he gets away with it.
“He’s got to be smarter.”
KHAWAJA EXPOSED AFTER CLAIMING CATCH
The South African tail was exposed and the Australian bowling attack was hoping to make light work of them to contain the lead ballooning out.
Nathan Lyon did his part with the ball as he lured Keshav Maharaj into lofty shot that was sent deep into the outfield.
On the boundary Usman Khawaja waited and as he juggled the ball on either side of the rope, after tossing the ball into the air and reclaiming it back inside the field of play he quickly celebrated with his teammates.
The catch was sent upstairs to be reviewed and that was when Khawaja was exposed.
Replays showed Khawaja still had the ball in hand when his foot, which was outside the rope, was in contact with the ground.
Maharaj remained at the crease and went on to frustrate the Australians as he piled on a 58-run partnership with AB de Villiers.
Khawaja drew the ire of many fans on social media after claiming the catch that wasn’t and former South African skipper Graeme Smith thought he made a mess of the chance.
“It wasn’t his best bit of work,” Smith said of the catch.
“He had a chance to make it easier but he continued to move and fidget.”
AB DE VILLIERS MASTERCLASS
South Africa built a big lead with their first innings total and it was all thanks to the brilliance of AB de Villiers.
The incredible knock of 126 from only 146 deliveries saw de Villiers punish the Australian bowling attack as he led the locals charge on day three.
De Villiers was the anchor in late partnerships of 44 with Quinton de Kock, 84 with Vernon Philander (36) and 58 off just 43 balls with Keshav Maharaj (30) to keep South Africa going.
The 34-year-old de Villiers, one of the best players of his generation, is nearing the end of his Test career and there’s speculation that this might even be his last series.
He hit 20 fours and a six in his century, going to 100 with a boundary down to third man.
He reached 100 off just 117 balls, a free-flowing innings that made batting look much easier than it really was, especially with the ball reverse swinging on Day 2.
De Villiers also passed 8,500 test runs during the innings, the fourth South African after Jacques Kallis, Graeme Smith and Hashim Amla to do that.
This was de Villiers’ first test century since January 2015 having taken nearly two years out of test cricket in an effort to prolong his career. He returned to tests late last year.
The stunning innings was lauded by past and present players with David Warner also applauding the show he had a front-row seat for.

The armed school resource officer who failed to confront the Florida high-school shooter last month also warned other first responders to stay away from the scene as the massacre was unfolding, internal radio dispatches show.
The deputy, Scot Peterson, resigned roughly a week after the shooting, after an investigation by the Broward Sheriff’s Office revealed he did “nothing” to stop the gunman and stayed outside the building for several minutes instead.See the rest of the story at Business Insider

McCabe authorized the leak to the Wall Street Journal for a story about an ongoing investigation into the Clinton Foundation scandal in 2016, according to The New York Times and the Washington Post, who cited several sources familiar with the upcoming report. McCabe also misled the DOJ watchdog investigators about his improper media disclosure.
McCabe stepped down from his position as the FBI Deputy Director in January, amid concerns over a review by Justice Department Inspector General Michael Horowitz.
The report is part of Horowitz’s review on how the FBI and Justice Department handled the investigation into Hillary Clinton’s use of a private email server while she was serving as secretary of state. The Justice Department is investigating why McCabe took three weeks to act on a request to examine Clinton’s emails, which were discovered during the 2016 US presidential election. The Wall Street Journal revealed a dispute between the FBI and the Justice Department over how to address the probe into the financial dealings of the Clinton Foundation.
McCabe became acting director of the FBI in May 2017, following President Donald Trump’s removal of then-FBI Director James Comey. McCabe is closely connected to Democrats through his wife Jill, who ran for state office in Virginia in 2015 and received $ 500,000 from the super PAC of Terry McAuliffe, a Clinton ally and former governor of Virginia. She lost by 2,000 votes.
McCabe became involved in the Clinton email probe in February 2016.
Trump has been highly critical of McCabe, believing he has pushed anti-Trump bias in the upper echelons of federal law enforcement.
How can FBI Deputy Director Andrew McCabe, the man in charge, along with leakin’ James Comey, of the Phony Hillary Clinton investigation (including her 33,000 illegally deleted emails) be given $ 700,000 for wife’s campaign by Clinton Puppets during investigation?
— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) 23 December 2017
It was later revealed that McCabe’s former senior adviser, Lisa Page, exchanged anti-Trump and pro-Clinton text messages with Peter Strzok, a senior FBI agent, while they were involved in ongoing investigations of Clinton and Trump.
Comey also has a reputation for leaking classified materials. After Trump fired him in May 2017, Comey leaked the contents of his memos to the press through a friend.
The disclosures come at a particularly unfortunate time for the FBI. The agency has been embroiled in even more controversy after the House Intelligence Committee released a Republican memo purportedly showing that the FBI committed surveillance abuses in 2016. The memo alleges that a dossier, paid for by the Clinton campaign, formed the basis of the FISA warrant obtained by the FBI to spy on Trump’s former campaign adviser Carter Page.
In December 2017, McCabe was questioned by the House Intelligence Committee regarding possible collusion between Trump and Russia. Fox News sources said that McCabe told the panel that the FBI worked assiduously to verify the contents of the Trump dossier and the agency stood by it.

The high-profile meetings between the NFL and its players over protests during the national anthem and promoting social justice seemed to have fallen apart due to infighting amongst the players.
According to ESPN’s Howard Bryant, the players split into factions during the negotiations about how to better promote social activism, with one side joining the Philadelphia Eagles’ Malcolm Jenkins and the Players Coalition and the other basing itself around Colin Kaepernick and San Francisco 49ers safety Eric Reid.
The entire issue seemed to boil down to differences in opinion about how to handle the matter, but through the publicized negotiations that ran through October and November, the players apparently could never get on the same page.
According to Bryant, one NFL owner offered a damning but prescient take on how the negotiations would play out.
“The players had real leverage,” the owner said. “But we knew we could sit back and watch them implode.”
It proved true. The NFL seemed to be at a disadvantage with player protests. With fan and some commercial backlash, the NFL wanted to end protests, and the players seemed to be at an advantage in bargaining what they wanted from the league.
However, as Bryant detailed, the negotiations seemed to come undone in he-said-she-said fashion, with players disagreeing over who should lead the movement and what they really wanted from the league.
The NFL agreed to donate money, with players matching the donations, to charities that support social justice and social activism, a win in some players’ eyes.
According to Bryant, some of the leading players, like Jenkins, Reid, and Chris Long, feel the offseason and a break could reunite the players and help them move forward, but as of now, there hasn’t been much progress since the fall.

And it’s not just Father Christmas who would suffer from health issues – his reindeers would be struck down with debilitating Lyme disease, too.
This is according to the head of the Royal College of GPs.
Professor Helen Stokes-Lampard, chairwoman of the RCGP, joked that leaving out mince pies for Father Christmas would contribute to his obesity, if he were a real person.
She claimed that Saint Nick could also be suffering from alcoholism thanks to his binge-drinking on Christmas Eve.
Meanwhile Rudolph, Dasher, Dancer, Prancer, Vixen, Comet, Cupid, Donner and Blitzen could be carrying ticks infected with the bacteria that causes Lyme disease.
Prof Stokes-Lampard said: “He’s overweight and all of us do our bit to add to his obesity by leaving mince pies and cookies for him and milk or alcohol.
“He may have gout, he may have alcoholism – there’s a real bit of binge drinking going on.
“There are also issues with sleep deprivation, work stress, his mental health.
“Lyme disease is another potential one as reindeer can carry ticks.”
If passed on to humans, Lyme disease can have serious and debilitating effects such as loss of energy and muscle and joint pain.
Prof Stokes-Lampard said she would enforce a new exercise regime on Santa to help him shed the pounds, by encouraging him to run between houses on his Christmas Eve deliveries.
She also told how he could do more to set a good example by adopting a healthier diet – and giving up the sherry.
She added: “Although he sets a brilliant example of good behaviour and teaches the importance of giving rather than receiving, he could probably do more to encourage healthy lifestyles – something youngsters and adults alike can benefit from.
“Santa is almost certainly living with multiple morbidities which, if left untreated, can become increasingly distressing and debilitating.
“If Mr Claus was a patient at my practice, I would be encouraging him to adopt a vastly healthier diet and take more exercise in the new year.
“I’d also be keen to address his binge drinking, something which many people – perhaps even unknowingly – tend to do while celebrating Christmas.
“The human body can only process one unit of alcohol per hour, which means excessive consumption could make Santa drunk very quickly.
“This not only increases the likelihood of him slipping in the snow or mixing up important presents, but could also lead to long-term issues affecting his mood and mental health.
“In the meantime, I would recommend that Santa gives the sherry a miss this year – and maybe asks Rudolph if he can share his carrots.”
A REAL-life Santa would be plagued by gout, sleep deprivation, poor mental health and alcoholism, the nation’s leading GP claimed yesterday.![]()
Apple are reportedly “looking into” viral footage of a smoking iPhone 7 Plus… and Samsung users are smug AF.
On Thursday, 18-year-old Brianna Olivas shared a video of her rose gold iPhone emitting a stream of smoke after it had apparently exploded, and with almost 30,000 retweets, it caught Apple’s attention.
Olivas told Gizmodo that the phone, which she bought in January, wouldn’t turn on the day before it exploded, but a Sprint employee told her everything seemed fine after running a diagnostics test.
