It’s showtime! With a Beetlejuice musical out, it was only a matter of time before a documentary dove into the making of the Tim Burton cult classic. But it will take more than saying “Beetlejuice!” three times to conjure up this documentary. The feature-length documentary, titled Documentary for the Recently Deceased: The Making of Beetlejuice, is currently running a crowdfunding campaign and will need a little monetary magic to pull through.
French Beetlejuice superfan Fred China is currently making and directing Documentary for the Recently Deceased: The Making of Beetlejuice, which released a teaser trailer to lure in more Beetlejuice lovers to help crowdfund the movie. This is the second crowdfunding campaign for the documentary which will cover the cost of more interviews.
China launched the first crowdfunding campaign in August 2017, which helped him reach out to 13 crew members that worked in the special effects industry, including Oscar winner Robert Short. In the above sneak peek, they talk about the seemingly impossible task of making Beetlejuice, which most people, including the star-studded cast of Michael Keaton, Geena Davis, Winona Ryder, and Alec Baldwin balked at. “Almost every single person who’s actually in the movie at first said no,” casting director Jane Jenkins said. “It was the strangest script I’ve ever read up until that point,” art director Tom Duffield added.
According to the press release for the documentary, Documentary for the Recently Deceased: The Making of Beetlejuice will be about:
The doc will cover all the aspects of the Beetlejuice production: from the filming in East Corinth, Vermont, to the stop motion and special effects work, and will include a series of exclusive interviews with cast and crew, as well as rare behind the scenes footage acquired by Fred China through the years. In addition to traveling to the United States, they will also be heading to Vancouver, Toronto, and Amsterdam to get all their interviews.
The Beetlejuice documentary is produced by Adam F. Goldberg (The Goldbergs) and Lee Leshen (Back in Time, Ghostheads). You can donate to the Kickstarter here.

A GoFundMe campaign has raised more than $ 24,000 for the father who attacked convicted pedophile Larry Nassar in court on Friday.
Randall Margraves attempted to get his hands on the disgraced US gymnastics team doctor, who has been sentenced to 175 years in prison, after his daughters gave victim impact statements detailing the abuse they suffered at the hands of Nassar.
The visibly upset dad first asked for “five minutes in a locked room with this demon” before rushing at Nassar, only to be tackled by police.
As he was led away from the courtroom, he shouted: “I want that son of a bitch… give me one minute with that bastard.”
In the aftermath of the dramatic scene a GoFundMe campaign was launched to help cover any legal costs Margraves could potentially face. The fundraiser had a goal of $ 1,000 but it quickly smashed that target and by Saturday morning it had already raised more than $ 24,000.
Because Margraves was not charged for the incident Aaron Pangborn, who set up the GoFundMe page, said he will work with the Margraves family to ensure the funds collected will go towards helping victims of sexual abuse.
However the Margraves’ lawyer said that the family had not authorized the fundraiser and suggested that donors should ask for a refund.
Margraves later apologized to the court for his outburst, saying he was devastated by hearing his daughters’ statements and he lost control. “I’m not here to upstage my daughters,” he said. “I’m here to help them heal.”
Eaton County Circuit Judge Janice Cunningham dismissed the idea that Margraves would face charges, saying: “There is no way this court is going to issue any type of punishment due to the circumstances of this case.”
In total Larry Nassar has been accused of sexual abuse by 265 women.

There are literally hundreds of watch companies on the market that create extremely stylish timepieces. While legacy brands have already established a name and following for themselves, startup brands must be unique to truly set themselves apart — and Filippo Loreti has done just that.
Last year, we introduced our readers to the startup as the most crowdfunded watch company ever, and their success has only grown.
Founded in 2015 by Danielius and Matas Jakutis, Filippo Loreti looked to change the watch industry by selling luxury watches at affordable prices. They’re able to do this eliminating middlemen and retailers that mark up prices exponentially. A watch that would typically go for $ 1,000 from other brands, Filippo Loreti sells for a fraction of the cost, with many styles priced under $ 250.
The brand draws inspiration from three iconic Italian cities — Venice, Rome, and Milan — and uses premium craftsmanship in an array of elegant designs to appeal to all kinds of watch lovers.
Now, Filippo Loreti is back with the newly updated Venice Moonphase Collection and the quality is even better than before. Priced at $ 239, the watch is available in six colorways, making it not only an amazing deal, but a great way to add variety to your watch collection.
The design isn’t too far off from the original Venice watch, but there are a few key difference that collectively make it more elegant. The 40mm case is sleeker, the hour markers are not as large, and there’s no second hand. Features like the subdials, which display the month, day, and date, along with a dial that shows the phase of the moon, are all carried over from the original design. Similar to previous versions, the reverse side of the case features an engraved Basilica di San Marco image, this time in more pronounced detail.

Realistically, not everyone has thousands of dollars to shell out for a single watch. High retail prices usually force people to sacrifice quality for style and value, but that doesn’t have to be the case anymore. If you’re looking for a high-end luxury watch for under $ 250, the new Filippo Loreti Venice Moonphase watch is for you.
Filippo Loreti sent over a few watches from the collection for the Insider Picks team to try. Check out our thoughts and impressions, below:
Filippo Loreti
I first tried Filippo Loreti watches back in August 2017 and was thoroughly impressed with the quality — so much so that I’ve worn one of their watches almost every day since then. When I first heard about the all-new Venice Moonphase collection, I was expecting the same premium quality, but was pleasantly surprised with an even better made watch.
The first thing that stood out to me was the rich textured Italian leather strap. I was very happy with the smooth leather straps found on earlier models, but the tumbled leather used here feels a lot more luxurious. I also really enjoy the updated sleek design of the case. Initially, I thought the removal of the second hand was odd, but knowing the time down to the second isn’t that important. It gives the display a clean and simple look that I’ve come to appreciate.
I’ve tested a lot of watches in this price range and none of them match up to Filippo Loreti. If you’re looking for a classy watch that you can wear on a daily basis, the Venice Moonphase is a great choice.
Filippo Loreti
I tried the Venice Moonphase Blue Gold. I’ve always liked moonphase watches, but I never had a chance to actually wear one before. While the moonphase feature obviously isn’t as applicable as the date or day of the week, I still loved having it on the watch. It adds a nice bit of character and timelessness.
Speaking of the moonphase, that, and the other complications — month, date, and day — are perfectly sized, laid out well, and easy to read. Even with four subdials, the term that kept coming to mind was “minimal.”
In terms of style, what I loved about the watch was that it had a unique look without being tacky or overdone. The blue bezel makes the watch stand out, and even though I was a little skeptical at first, I found that the watch dressed both up and down well. I can wear it with a sweater or shirt to work, or with a suit to a wedding.
Filippo Loreti
I have never been much of a fan of wearing watches. My wrist is small and watches with big faces often look to clunky, while smaller faces tend to look too feminine. This was true until I saw the Filippo Loreti watch filling the gap between the two. It is elegant, with a blue face and quality blue leather band all accented with gold hardware details. It’s also the perfect size.
The best part of the aesthetic is the fact that it is not overdone. It does not feature diamonds or patent leather where the watch prescribes the situation in which you can wear it. In fact, the simplicity of the watch itself makes it perfect for everyday use at work or home, while the gold punch allows you to “wear it up” with a full suit like I did to a dinner party.

Swedish startup Uniti says it’s selected the manufacturing location for its all-new lightweight electric vehicle along with a planned Dec. 9 worldwide launch before investors, buyers, supporters and business partners, including Siemens and Kuka Robotics.
Uniti says it has begun transitioning its operations to the new site in Landskrona, a small city in southern Sweden that is across the Oresund from Copenhagen. There, it will expand its evaluation prototyping process and production planning in parallel, while making renovations to the light industrial building. The company says the new site provides it with access to well-established shipping and logistics infrastructure, high-speed Internet and clean energy.
Uniti’s funky flagship is a two- or four-seater made of composite biomaterials and carbon fiber, developed with the use of virtual reality and built on what the company says is a new kind of platform. The car weighs just 992 pounds and has a range of 300 kilometers (186 miles) from a 11- or 20-kWh lithium-ion battery and 15-kilowatt hub motors. It comes equipped with electronic steering, full-screen display, autonomous driving features and a small auxiliary battery that Uniti says is easily swapped with the main battery and can provide enough power for trips of up to 30 km, or about 18 miles. It’s envisioned as an urban car for millennials (apparently they’re the hot market demographic in Europe, too) or as a daily commuter vehicle for families.
Uniti finished its FundedByMe campaign last year with more than 1.23 million euros ($ 1.4 million) from 570 investors in 45 countries. It launched a new equity crowdfunding campaign on its website in September
The company says it now has 915 pre-orders for the EV, whose target price is around 20,000 euros ($ 23,000). First deliveries are expected in early 2019.

Luxury watches are categorized by superior quality, beautiful designs, and of course, high price tags.
Specific name brands have built up enough clout to charge super high prices, but paying thousands of dollars for a single watch simply isn’t doable for most people. With that said, that still doesn’t mean luxury watches are unobtainable.
Filippo Loreti, a 2015 Kickstarter, set out to bring guys high-quality, luxury timepieces at affordable prices by eliminating middlemen and retailers that mark up prices exponentially.
Founded by Danielius and Matas Jakutis, the brothers set their initial crowdfunding goal at $ 20,000. After just 30 days, the company raised $ 926,620, making it the most crowdfunded watch company ever. In late 2016, when the brand launched its second collection of watches, they shattered the old record by raising $ 5.17 million in 30 days with more than 18,000 backers.
Inspired by three iconic Italian cities — Venice, Rome, and Milan — Filippo Loreti’s watches include premium craftsmanship in an array of elegant designs to appeal to all kinds of watch lovers. The prices range from $ 219 for a minimalistic watch to $ 459 for an automatic watch — all priced well under what luxury watches typically go for.
If you want high-quality and stylish luxury designs, without paying traditional luxury prices, Filippo Loreti is the way to go. They’re so nice, you will absolutely want to start a collection of them.
To help with that, Filippo Loreti will include a collector’s box when you buy two or more watches. The luxurious box is made of wood with a high gloss polished lacquer finish, a rich black leather interior, and has room for eight watches. Valued at $ 200, the box can be yours for free.
Filippo Loreti sent over a few watches for the Insider Picks team to try out. Check out our thoughts and impressions, below:

When it comes to watch designs, I’m not bound to just one distinct style, but the Filippo Loreti Rome Gold is my new go-to choice for a minimal aesthetic. The watch features a premium brown leather band, a gold case, and a white dial with gold hands and hour markers — and that’s it. There are no sub-dials getting in the way of simply telling the time.
While the watch is simple, there are many details that will let you know this is a true luxury watch.
The back of the case has a laser-etched image of the Piazza del Campidoglio on it and the dial features a bold geometric pattern inspired by Michaelangelo’s rosette designs.
Filippo Loreti
Finally, a watch that matches my aesthetic. While most watchmakers are striving to make traditional-looking watches meant for a business or business-casual environment, Filippo Loreti is taking things a step further. Sure, you can still get a “normal” watch with a black band, but the one I’ve been trying has a navy strap and face that works well with my navy-heavy wardrobe.
The watch itself is minimalist, which I like, and the gold-colored buckle and back accent the navy face nicely. As an added touch, there’s an etched image of the Piazza del Campidoglio on the back of the watch you’ll only see before you put it on and when you take it off. I appreciate things like that because it proves Filippo Loreti put a lot of time into the watch’s design.
If you’re looking for a watch that fits your personality without going overboard, I strongly suggest you give this brand a try.
Filippo Loreti
I tried out the Venice Silver Blue and was immediately a fan. Besides hours, minutes, and seconds, the watch also features month, day of the week, date, and a day/night function. When I first read the description, it seemed like too much to present attractively on a watch face, but after wearing it I know that’s not the case.
I don’t think I’ve ever worn a watch that’s presented so much information so clearly and stylishly on its face.
Besides the watch face, the quality of the Italian leather strap is very noticeable on the wrist. With such a quality design, the selling point of a Filippo Loreti Venice watch is its $ 239 price. For other watches similarly priced, you might get a watch to look like a $ 1,000 model, but rarely will it feel like a $ 1,000 one, too. For this reason, it’s easy to see why the brand is shaking up the luxury watch business.

Enlarge / The Generation Identity crowdfunded ship C-Star broke down off Libya’s coast this morning. (credit: Sea-Eye)
A right-wing “European identity” group called Generation Identity crowdfunded enough to hire a ship in order to intercept refugees from North Africa trying to reach Europe. But as the effort cast off in July, Patreon cancelled an account being used to fund the efforts. And today, the group’s ship lost propulsion off the coast of Libya. The ship that arrived to provide assistance was one operated by Sea-Eye, a nongovernmental organization coincidentally working to rescue refugees in distress on the Mediterranean.
The C-Star is a 42-year-old research and survey ship operated by Marine Global Services Ltd. and registered in the land-locked nation of Mongolia. The vessel was hired in July by the anti-refugee organization using funds from a Patreon campaign called “Defend Europe” that started in May. Through sites such as Patreon and WeSearchr, the group collected funds for its “rescue mission”:
It’s a mission to save Europe, stop illegal immigration and save lives on the sea. We want to expose doings of the NGOs, disrupt the human traffickers and support the Libyan Coastguard with informations [sic]. To do that we need your help to get our ship in the Mediterranean Sea.
The group promoted their cause and fundraising campaign with the assistance of Canadian right-wing YouTube personality Lauren Southern. Southern had accompanied Generation Identity on a prior mission at-seas, when the group used a small boat to intercept a rescue ship operated by Doctors Without Borders and the French refugee rescue charity SOS Mediterranee (Generation Identity fired flares at it). Southern said that the group’s goal was to get more boats and to use nets and other tools to foul the propellers of “migrant boats.”
]]>EVERYONE would like a piece of the next Google or Facebook. But the big venture-capital (VC) firms do not usually raise money from small investors. And some entrepreneurs complain that it is hard to get noticed by the hotshots in the VC industry. Hence the enthusiasm for crowd-funding, where small investors can buy a stake in startup companies.
Seedrs, a British crowd-funding firm, was set up in 2012, and has backed 500 firms so far, raising a total of £210m ($ 271m) from more than 200,000 users. But there are two big problems with crowd-funding. First, it is risky: most startups fail. Second, investments tend to be illiquid—shareholders have to wait for a takeover or a stockmarket flotation to recoup their investment.
Seedrs is trying to solve the illiquidity problem by setting up a secondary market, where buyers and sellers can exchange shares. The new market will start operating this summer, and will allow trading for a week every month, starting on the…

The connected home is getting out of hand. These days your mattress can do everything from keep tabs on your cheating spouse to start your coffee each morning. But why let the surface you sleep on have all the smarts when you can pay $ 300 for a pillow that knows when you’re sleeping and when you’re awake. Like Santa but from 1984.
Behold the Sunrise Smart Pillow from Mode Modern. It’s currently being via a Kickstarter that has septupled its $ 50,000 funding goal with nearly two weeks left in the campaign.
This thing is, in a word, ridiculous. There are more gizmos packed into it than Inspector Gadget’s chest cavity. Embedded color-changing LED lights flip on in the mornings to both rouse you from your slumber and display customizable wake up message. The pillow incorporates a gyroscope and accelerometer monitor how often you toss and turn. It plays wireless music through a Bluetooth connection as well as a variety of white noises. Heck, the Sunrise can even guide you through meditation sessions.
And, of course, all that data it generates gets fed back into its associated mobile app. Because obviously your pillow needs an app. It’s 2017, everything needs an app. The Sunrise pillow is currently discounted to $ 130 through the end of its crowdfunding campaign if you want to throw away only half as much money as you would two weeks from now.

The creators and stars of Star Trek: Deep Space Nine have launched an Indiegogo campaign to produce a documentary about the show. What We Left Behind will tell the story of the third fourth Star Trek series as told by (most of) the people who made it. More than that, however, the film has assembled the show’s writing team (including Ronald D. Moore) to map out what a mythical eighth season of the show would look like. Sadly, the AV Club beat us two pointing out that this is basically that Portlandia sketch, but in real life.
In just over a day, the project has smashed through its original $ 150,000 target and is pushing toward $ 200,000. It’s something of a vindication for the show that — when it launched — was treated as the red-headed stepchild of the Star Trek universe. Now, after living through Voyager and Enterprise, fans have come to appreciate the show for what it is. Backers can contribute $ 15 to be able to watch the show when it’s available, which is expected to be around February 2018.
The team behind the documentary has plenty of experience producing Star Trek retrospectives. Director Adam Nimoy made For the Love of Spock, while producers 455 Films was behind Chaos on the Bridge, The Captains and Get a Life!. In addition to showing you what the eighth season of DS9 would have looked like, viewers will also be able to see how much the cast have changed in the last nearly two decades. Most notably, you’ll be able to see Cirroc Lofton (Jake Sisko) and Hana Hatae (Molly O’Brien) now that they’re adults.
Of course, what’s interesting here isn’t the documentary itself, but the fact that we’re inching ever closer to pop culture’s nostalgia singularity. After all, online platforms have seen plenty of classic TV shows getting revivals, many of which were produced with cash from fans. Beyond the Star Trek fan films Veronica Mars, Reading Rainbow, Mystery Science Theater 3000 and Thunderbirds 1965 were all bankrolled by members of the public. In addition, online education site Masterclass hired Aaron Sorkin to re-break the fifth season opener of The West Wing for his screenwriting course.
Let’s be honest, but for Joss Whedon’s reluctance, it’s only a matter of time before someone actually secures $ 50 million to make a second season of Firefly.

]]>Milltex has created Spero, an affordable, no-compromise ebike for the Indian consumer. Like any other electric bicycles, a battery-powered motor can push you along on your commute. Where this bike differs is in its ability to recharge the battery as it’s pedaled.
More: Transform your boring bike into an eBike in 60 seconds with the GeoOrbital Wheel
Spero was built with commuters in mind. At a full stop, the bike can accelerate up to 15 miles per hour in ten seconds. Instead of standard gears, the bike uses 5-speed digital gears when in electric mode. If you choose to ride manually, or run out of a charge, regenerative pedaling allows you to charge the ebike. Alternatively, if you travel at a constant speed for six seconds, cruise mode will take over so the bike will continue to maintain that speed without pedaling.
The battery itself is a 48-volt lithium-ion battery that can easily be removed for charging. It can be recharged through any standard outlet and can go from 20-80 percent in 3 hours. For safety sake, there is a mounted light on the handlebars and a digital display that provides all the necessary data. Charge level, speeds, distance covered, and more can all be seen at a quick glance.
At this time, Spero has been successfully crowdfunded on India’s equivalent to Kickstarter, Fuel a Dream. Three different models were available for pre-order through the service, the E-30, E-60, and E-100. Conveniently, the numbers refer to how many kilometers the batteries can take you on a full charge. At pre-order, their prices converted to about $ 500, $ 600, and $ 700 respectively, but crowdfunded products tend to cost a bit more once they hit retail.
For more information, check out Spero’s website.
