Tombola said: “There are an estimated 80 million rats in the UK, compared to the human population of 67.6 million people. “A rat can survive longer without water than a camel and can fall as far as 50 feet and land uninjured.” The other animals to be found either side of the hemisphere include beetles, mice, fruit flies and crickets. Whether any of the creatures will appear again in the series – more than likely – will be revealed each evening on ITV. I’m A Celebrity 2019 continues every night on ITV. To see Tombola’s ‘Detect and Deter’ guide, click here.

You want horror remake news? We’ve got horror remake news for you, baby! Get it while it’s spooky! First: Guillermo del Toro has confirmed he’s working on an American remake of the scary Argentinean horror film Terrified. Then, Halloween director David Gordon Green expresses interest in remaking either Critters or Ghoulies (maybe, he could be joking). And finally, a look at Rob Zombie‘s abandoned remake of The Blob.
Terrified is one of the creepiest horror movies in recent memory. This Argentinean export is now streaming on Shudder, and filled with enough scares to keep you on the edge of your seat. Some of the plotting is a bit wonky, but the fright factor is through the roof. In her review of the film, Marisa Mirabal wrote “Terrified is a gory and gruesome gem that solidifies its spooky real estate within the genre we all know and love.”
The horror film works fine on its own, and really doesn’t need an American English-language remake. But we’re getting one anyway. At least we can rest easy knowing it’s in good hands. Guillermo del Toro has confirmed to THR that he’s producing the American remake, and I have no doubt del Toro will make sure the original gets the respect it deserves. In the original, a group of paranormal researchers investigate strange events in a neighborhood in Buenos Aires.
Now that David Gordon Green has saved the Halloween franchise, what does he want to do next? “I’d like to make a little Critters/Ghoulies movie,” he said at a recent Q&A. “When I was a boy I asked my parents for Goonies for Christmas and they gave me a copy of Ghoulies, never gotten over it.”
Ghoulies involved puppet monsters that popped out of the toilet (“They’ll get you in the end!” cried the tagline). Critters dealt with tiny, hairy animals. It’s worth noting that Green could be joking here. And if he’s not joking, he doesn’t say he wants to specifically remake these two films, but rather that he wants to make a movie in the same vein. In other words, he really wants to make a movie about tiny puppet monsters running around. I say go for, David.
Almost 10 years ago, Rob Zombie announced he was going to remake The Blob, the 1958 sci-fi horror film later remade in 1988. The movie featured a viscus, ever-growing slab of goo from space that wrecked havoc on earth. Zombie’s take was apparently much, much different – but it never happened. Zombie later said he walked away because he had a bad feeling about working with the producers.
Now, some concept art from Zombie’s never-made film has surfaced, and it certainly looks different. The art comes from artist Alex Horley(via Bloody Disgusting), and certainly indicates Zombie’s approach was different. In the other two Blob films, the blob mostly roams around town, murdering people. In the art, we see what looks like zombies created by the blob, attacking people. There’s also a huge stone monolith that probably has something to do with what’s going on. I have to say, based on the art, this looks pretty damn cool – but who knows how it would’ve actually turned out. See the art below.

In recent years, SyFy has become known for their intentionally abysmal programming efforts such as the Sharknado franchise and other monster movies. But they’ve also been responsible for praiseworthy efforts like Battlestar Galactica, The Expanse, Channel Zero and the upcoming Nightflyers and Deadly Class. That makes us wonder just what to expect from their most recently revealed endeavor.
A new report indicates that SyFy is currently in talks to land the rights to the gloriously goofy yet twisted 1980s cult favorites Critters and Killer Klowns from Outer Space with the intention of making new movies based on the properties. The question is, just what kind of movies can we expect?
Bloody Disgusting learned of SyFy’s efforts to pick up Critters and Killer Klowns from Outer Space, the horror films created by the Chido Brothers in 1986 and 1988 respectively. Both films are known for their impressive practical creature effects, unique premises, and definitive 1980s style. If you’re not familiar with either of the properties, here you go:
When teenagers Mike (Grant Cramer) and Debbie (Suzanne Snyder) see a comet crash outside their sleepy small town, they investigate and discover a pack of murderous aliens who look very much like circus clowns. They try to warn the local authorities, but everyone assumes their story is a prank. Meanwhile, the clowns set about harvesting and eating as many people as they can. It’s not until they kidnap Debbie that Mike decides it’s up to him to stop the clowns’ bloody rampage.
When strange fuzzy creatures from outer space arrive on a farm, the Brown family — Jay (Billy Green Bush), Helen (Dee Wallace-Stone), their daughter, April (Nadine Van Der Velde), and their son, Brad (Scott Grimes) — must fend off the malevolent little aliens. Two bounty hunters with superhuman abilities follow the aggressive beasts from beyond, but the warriors aren’t terribly effective, leaving the Brown family to battle the fur balls and rescue April from their clutches all by themselves.

SyFy goes from one end of the spectrum to the other when it comes to quality genre programming. They could either make reboots Critters and Killer Klowns from Outer Space genuine efforts to recapture the fun and warped sensibilities of the original movie, or they could go the Sharknado route and make intentionally terrible movies that completely miss the mark. The former is more preferable to the latter, but it’s also that much more difficult to pull off.
These two properties won’t be the first familiar franchise that SyFy takes a fresh crack at. They’ve got Leprechaun Returns coming in March of 2019, so maybe that gives us some idea of what they’re trying to do with these titles:
All right, maybe SyFy can get the right people together to make reboots of Critters and Killer Klowns from Outer Space worthwhile. But at the same time, both movies are a product of the decade in which they were created, and it’s hard to replicate the unique charm and playfully twisted nature that makes them so great.

In this edition of Theme Park Bits:
This week, in the queue of Guardians of the Galaxy – Mission: BREAKOUT! at Disney California Adventure, the Collector’s collection just got a little more obscure with the addition of three Vyloos. These creatures — which resemble intergalactic Porg cousins and will respond to the movements of guests in line for the ride — appeared briefly in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. Director James Gunn shared the word about them on Instagram. The only sensible reaction to news of this kind is the utterance, “I am Groot.”

The promenade in front of “it’s a small world” in Fantasyland at Disneyland will soon be undergoing some changes as the location of the attraction’s queue is moved and the parade route in the area is adjusted accordingly.
Over in Adventureland at the same park, TV Overmind reports that the Jungle Cruise “is now a self-sustaining ecosystem and requires very little landscaping.”
“Are you hungry yet?” asks Disney Parks Blog. If not, feasting your eyes on pictures and reading about some of the exclusive new items on the chef-driven menu at Splitsville Luxury Lanes in the Downtown Disney District might just be the thing to whet your appetite. Tell me those Macho Nachos don’t look good …
Here’s a look at the new Disney Store refurbishment, courtesy of Parkhopper Ryan on Twitter:

We’ve already shared satellite imagery of the Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge construction site at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, but if you’d like to zoom in a little closer, you can check out more of The Disney Blog’s aerial imagery. That imagery also gives a glimpse at the development of Toy Story Land, where you can now see details like the dinosaur Rex perched atop a Jenga tower inside the Slinky Dog Coaster loop.
Adding to Disney’s growing list of filed patents (which includes one for lightsaber technology) is a new one for a “Location-Based Experience with Interactive Merchandise.” A number of images used in said patent are up over on Inside the Magic. Here’s the description of one image:
“A game player is wearing a specific pair of gloves that are associated with the ‘freezing’ magic powers. When the game player makes a predefined gesture (in this example, pointing all their fingers at a target) a stream of ice particles is shown to be directed along the pointing direction of the game player.”
In Frozen’s “Let It Go” musical sequence, the gloves famously came off before the snow queen Elsa started shooting ice from her hands. But if you’ve ever dreamed of dancing around and acting out that sequence, it sounds like you may be able to do that in the Disney parks some day, simply by pulling a reverse Elsa and donning gloves (provided these particular magic gloves ever move beyond the patent stage). One has to wonder if there will be a singing aspect involved, or if hearing people belt out in-park karaoke renditions of that song would simply drive too many other visitors mad.
Avatar fans, you might want to rewind the video above a few times so you can check your Na’vi pronunciation against that of the language’s creator, before watching some highlights from his recent visit to Pandora – The World of Avatar at Disney’s Animal Kingdom.
Entertainment Weekly has shared an exclusive first look at the design for the 2018 Celebration of Harry Potter poster, along with a look back at posters for each year since the event started in 2014. In the final days leading up to the event, the Universal Orlando blog has also revealed a few last details about what’s on offer this year.
Having already opened a location at Universal Studios Hollywood last spring, the popular Voodoo Doughnut chain, known for its unique doughnut creations, is now coming to Universal CityWalk in Orlando. The only question is whether Diablos Rex is just a cute novelty name, or whether it is, in fact, an incantation that people can utter to conjure a demon after consuming their chocolate cake doughnuts decorated with vanilla frosting pentagrams.
In New Jersey, Six Flags Great Adventure is cutting down 40 acres of trees to make way for a solar electricity farm that will allow it to become the world’s first solar-powered theme park.
Above, you can see some video (via Disney and more) of Rex’s RC Racer doing a test run at Shanghai Disneyland.
At Walt Disney Studios Park in Paris, this year’s Season of the Force event boasts some big fan-made vehicles. On June 2, a special one-night-only event at the park called FanDaze is set to offer visitors the opportunity for some rare character encounters, among other things. Book a flight now if you want to meet Kronk from The Emperor’s New Groove.
While the photos are lovely and worth the effort, the weather is unforgiving and cold ???? At least I got photos of #TDR in the snow! That's what counts right? ????https://t.co/8wlQ1EmXZL

Warner Brothers Digital’s Blue Ribbon Content announced a web series based on the horror-comedy Critters film franchise. Jordan Rubin will write and direct Critters: The New Binge for the digital platform that also has Daphne & Velma, Good Girls Get High, Golden Revenge and animated shows Vixen, The Ray and Constantine. 1986’s Critters was New Line Cinema’s answer to Gremlins, following a group of alien fur balls as they terrorized a family with their poison porcupine darts. Critters 2: The Main Course opened in 1988, but Critters 3 and 4 went straight to video.
Rubin spoke with /Film after Blue Ribbon Content’s presentation to the Television Critics Association. A writer on The Man Show and The Late Late Show with Craig Kilborn, Rubin co-wrote and directed the horror comedy Zombeavers in 2014. He’s just turned in the script for Critters: The New Binge, so hopefully, we’ll interview him again when the series drops online.
Is Critters: The New Binge a new origin story?
I wouldn’t say it’s an origin story because the Critters already exist in the world. They’re returning to Earth because they left one of their offspring behind that they’re trying to find. They’re being chased by the bounty hunters. So it’s a new binge, but it’s not an origin story per se like Batman Begins where you’re seeing from the ground up. This is a world that already exists that we’re joining.
So fans might see things they know?
Things and references they’ll be able to chomp onto. Is that a horrible joke?
I like it! Did they leave one of the eggs during one of the previous movies, or something we haven’t seen yet?
It’s sort of a surprise and a reveal. Let’s just say there was an impregnation that happened. There was a seed that was left behind and now that maybe has come to fruition, so they need to find it because they think it will help them maybe take over the galaxy.
Are there two new bounty hunters?
Yeah, the bounty hunters are always shape shifters, this nebulous face which can become different things. But yeah, two new bounty hunters coming to Earth in their same Terminator type walk and taking on different forms as they encounter them.
So is it still Ug and Lee with new faces of the new actors playing them?
I’d say it’s two new guys. I think they’re maybe retired at this point.
Does one of them still have trouble finding a face that fits?
I love that angle in the first film. There’s elements of that. We’re definitely having some fun with what faces they find, but try to reinvent a different angle on the joke maybe. It’s not like it’s the same dynamic of, “Oh, I can’t a face.” “Pick someone, just choose someone.” It’s a new take.
Are the straight-to-video Critters 3 and 4 still canon?
It’s sort of its own story. Well, [Leonardo] DiCaprio would be nice to show up in it but I’d say it’s more off of the first one. I felt like the later films started to have more fun and get a little more silly campy in a good way, but I like the darkness of the first one to me. It felt more like it went for it. I know people that still watch it and get scared by it. I don’t get scared by that kind of thing. I’m laughing.
How long is each episode?
Probably about 10 minutes roughly. It’ll be about eight episodes, averaging about 10 minutes in length.
Does it form a full feature movie?
Yeah, and I’m very much approaching it having come from the feature world, shooting it like a feature in the set amount of days and shooting as if I’m shooting a feature. I think it’ll easily translate if they decide to go that way.
Do you have the freedom of an R-rated movie to have language and violence?
It seems at this point like we do. TBD. We’re getting final script approval, but I think the original Critters was PG-13. It seems like we have the freedom to do that. I remember a conversation early on where they’re not looking to reign in too hard, maybe because it’s the digital space. I’m not sure.
Who are the human protagonists?
There’s a kid that’s in high school and it revolves around a high school world and a family. It’s a little bit more modern and a little bit more dysfunctional than the first Critters, but it’s that kind of typical American family you would see in an early ‘80s horror film, but with more of a modern bent and a little more dysfunction.
Where is this high school and town the Critters land in?
The Critters land in Burbank, California. The bounty hunters have a little issue with their ship and end up landing in another continent.
Is there any room for Don Opper, who I think remained a bounty hunter in space?
Not in the current version. It’s just two new guys, but there may be a sleeper cell bounty hunter. Who knows?
Is it still the Chiodo Brothers doing the puppets?
We spoke to them and I’m trying to make that work. I think that would be amazing. It’s all a matter of budget and if it can work out with their schedule and where we shoot. If we shoot in Canada… I’m trying to make that work because I met with them and they were great, but we’re speaking to a couple different puppet houses.
Was Zombeavers good practice for Critters?
Yeah, I think 100%. I think a big part of it was getting a handle on being prepared because you often have one or two fully animatronic creatures. Then you have puppets as the backups and secondary. Just in terms of budget you have one or two fully articulating. So you have to plan your schedule very tightly if you want scares and if you want reality. On Zombeavers, often I would be running out of time and I’d want to make the day and get all my shots. So if it was going to be 30 minutes to prepare an animatronic beaver, I would go with a puppet but that would affect the look in the edit. So I ended up picking up some reshoots, so I want to use animatronics as much as possible.
Do you have a release date you’re aiming for for Critters: The New Binge?
We don’t. We’re aiming to shoot in the next couple months and then go quickly into post, so hopefully soon.
