Superheroes have been at the forefront of pop culture now for more than two decades, thanks to the success of movies like “X-Men” and “Spider-Man” in the early 2000s. But it can’t just be DC and Marvel’s A-listers like Batman and Captain America carrying this torch forever. More to the point, we could use more stories that bring us into the world of superheroes in a unique way.
That’s where IDW’s new miniseries “Crashing,” which has just hit shelves, is worth putting on your radar — and we’ve got an exclusive look for you!
What we’ve got today is a unique look at Matthew Klein’s five-issue miniseries, which offers a window into the process that illustrator Morgan Beem, colorist Triona Farrell and lettererd Hassan Otsmane-Elhaou went through to get the book in our hands, in its finished form.
“Crashing” follows Rose Osler, a specialist whose focus is patients with Powers. She works at a hospital with a “No Powered Patients” policy. When a battle between Boston’s protectors and destroyers erupts, Rose is trapped between saving the city’s beloved hero by day and greatest villain at night. Except Rose could become a casualty when she’s forced to risk her recovery. This artwork gives us a glimpse at what her life is like in a hospital in a world filled with super powered individuals.

Aside from the details of the plot, the book is being described as part superhero thriller, sort of on the grittier side of things like “The Boys,” by way of a medical drama, sort of like “Nurse Jackie.” So with a little more edge than something like “Grey’s Anatomy.” As someone who has read the first issue, I can confirm that description is accurate.
One thing I can say for sure is that those who enjoy superheroes via movies and TV shows but haven’t dug into the comics may have a tough time making that leap. It can be difficult and intimidating to look at decades and decades worth of stories, wondering where to begin.
What’s nice about something like “Crashing” is that it provides a fresh jumping on point. Not only that, but it’s going to be a miniseries, so it will have a beginning, middle, and end. And it could work well as a starting point for those looking to dive more into the medium of comics, given that they tend to inspire the biggest franchises in the world these days.
“Crashing” #1 is on shelves and available through digital comics retailers now.

SINGAPORE (Reuters) – The yen soared versus its peers on Thursday, breaking through key technical support levels as heightened global growth risks pushed investors into safe haven-assets in moves exacerbated by thin holiday volumes.

Most of the events, included in the annual report published by the Copenhagen-based financial institution, are featuring so-called black swans – events that are unlikely to occur but would lead to catastrophic consequences.
Although the bank’s predictions are meant to be taken lightheartedly, Saxo Bank occasionally gets it right. At the end of 2017, the bank’s analysts said that Bitcoin would surge to $ 60,000, and then plunge to $ 1,000. Though the world’s best-known cryptocurrency failed to reach the predicted level last year, it still crashed to $ 4,000 per coin after swelling to more than $ 20,000.
“We have been publishing Outrageous Predictions for more than a decade and think this year’s list is both fascinating and shocking while encouraging investors to think outside the consensus box. It is important to underline that the Outrageous Predictions should not be considered Saxo’s official market outlook, it is instead the events and market moves deemed outliers with huge potential for upsetting consensus views,” Chief Economist at Saxo Bank, Steen Jakobsen said, commenting on the Outrageous Predictions.
The list of unserious forecasts for 2019 includes the following events:
Apple “secures funding” for Tesla at $ 520 per share
Acknowledging that Tesla needs more financial power and Apple needs to expand its ecosystem to the car in a more profound way than that represented by the current Apple CarPlay software, Apple goes after Tesla, the Danish lender predicts. The tech giant secures funding for the deal at a 40 percent premium of $ 520 dollars per share, which is $ 100 more compared to the price offered by Elon Musk in his infamous tweet.
EU announces a debt jubilee
Italy’s economic problems spread across banking systems of other European countries. When contagion comes to France, policymakers understand that the EU faces the abyss.
Germany enters recession
The Europe’s strongest economy is dragged down by the car making industry. The country fails to cross over to electric vehicles.
“2019 will be the peak of anti-globalization sentiment and will create a laser-like focus on costs, domestic markets and production, and the further use of big data and reduced pollution footprint – the exact opposite of the trends that have benefitted Germany since the 1980s. As such, we see a recession arriving as early as Q3 2019,” the report stresses.
Trump tells Powell “you’re fired”
If the US Federal Reserve increases the key rate once again, the country’s economy and stock market are doomed to plunge.
“By the summer, with equities in a deep funk and the US yield curve having moved to outright inversion, an incensed President Trump fires Powell and appoints Minnesota Fed President Neel Kashkari in his stead,” Saxo’s forecast reads.
Corporate credit crunch pushes Netflix into GE’s vortex
Netflix is seen as America’s most debt-ladened corporation. That threatens investors; moreover, the company faces tough competition from Disney that commercializes its streaming video services.
“The negative chain reaction in corporate bonds sets off massive uncertainty in high-yield bonds leading to a Black Tuesday for exchange-traded funds,” Saxo Bank predicts.
IMF and World Bank announce intent to stop measuring GDP, focus instead on productivity
As soon as gross domestic product (GDP) is not able to reflect an economic performance precisely, the International Monetary Fund and World Bank may offer to calculate labor productivity, as it can be considered as the greatest determinant of the standard of living over time.
“This unprecedented decision by the IMF and the World Bank also symbolizes the transition away from the central bank-dominated era that has been associated with the collapse in global productivity since the global financial crisis,” the forecast reads.
X-Class solar flare creates chaos and inflicts $ 2 trillion of damage
“In 2019, as Solar Cycle 25 kicks into gear, the earth isn’t so lucky and a solar storm strikes the Western hemisphere, taking down most satellites on the wrong side of the earth at the time and unleashing untold chaos on GPS-reliant air and surface travel/ logistics and electric power infrastructure,” Saxo analysts say.
The disastrous event is set to cause financial damage of at least $ 2 trillion.
Global Transportation Tax (GTT) enacted as climate panic spreads
Another hot summer may make Europe take thought about reducing CO2 emissions. Governments across the world are expected to impose a transport tax that would target international airlines and shipping corporations. The new tax charge is set to $ 50 per ton of CO2 emissions.
“Stocks in the tourism, airline, and shipping industries plunge on increased uncertainty and lower growth,” Saxo Bank predicts.
Prime Minister Corbyn sends GBPUSD to parity
After winning the election the Labour government starts implementing the strategy of a mid-20th century-style socialist “scorched earth” to liquidate inequality.
Utilities and the rail networks are re-nationalised and fiscal expansion sees deficits yawn wider to the tune of 5 percent of GDP, which will reportedly lead to pound plunge.
Australia launches “TARP Down Under” after nationalizing the big four banks
The key reason among the expected recession is plummeting credit growth in the country’s property market. Overvalued mortgage-backed property ledger and banks are forced to further tighten the screws on lending. The bust also contributes to a sharp decline in residential investment and GDP decline.

As 2018 dawned, expectations for self-driving vehicles were sky-high:
Self-driving technology seemed to be right around the corner. But then the industry was battered by bad news.
In March, Uber was forced to drastically scale back its testing activities after an Uber vehicle hit and killed a pedestrian in Tempe, Arizona. The same month, a Tesla customer died when his Autopilot-enabled Model X car slammed into a concrete lane divider.
The self-described golden retriever of a comedian known as Pete Holmes has been riding a new wave of fame recently, but only because he’s playing a regressed version of himself on the HBO series Crashing. That’s okay though, because seeing Pete Holmes tap into his former (and possibly current) insecurities in this personal and hilarious series is truly a gift to audiences.
Now it looks like things are getting simultaneously better and worse for ol’ Petey Pants in the first trailer for the upcoming third season of Crashing, which features a new array of famous comedian guest stars, including Pete’s real-life, longtime friend John Mulaney.
As you can see, the Pete Holmes of Crashing is up and coming, and it’s a dream come true when big-time comedian John Mulaney asks for him by name. However, there may have been some wires crossed somewhere, because Mulaney has no idea who Pete is when meeting for the first time. Then again, Mulaney could just be messing with him, because that’s just how comics are.
Other life updates for Pete include a new jacket that becomes the subject of mockery from some of his fellow comedians, not to mention a new girlfriend (Madeline Wise), though Pete’s mother doesn’t seem impressed or convinced that she’s actually into him.
Of course, the comedy side of Crashing is still front and center, and it appears Pete Holmes is entering a whole new level of success, albeit in a less desirable fashion. In season three, Pete starts playing these massive sold out venues, but the only problem is that they’re mostly churches, and he’s not really allowed to be himself. But he’s getting paid a shitload of money, so it’s all good, right?
Adding to the comedy world of Crashing are the fantastic guest stars, which include Amy Schumer, Ray Romano, Colin Quinn, Dave Attell, Chris Gethard, and recently dubbed youth corespondent on The Daily Show, Jaboukie Young-
Crashing season 3 debuts on HBO on January 20, 2019 at 10pm ET/PT.

BTC experienced a nosedive (to around $ 3,750) on Saturday evening, falling by 14 percent in a day and a staggering 25 percent since Monday, when it plummeted to below $ 5,000. The downward trend has not been limited to bitcoin, as the day saw almost all top cryptocurrency tokens losing their value in double digits.
The last time bitcoin traded below $ 4,000 was in August 2017 at the start of the cryptocurrency craze, which saw bitcoin shooting through the roof and eventually peaking at $ 20,000 before Christmas.
Since reaching its pinnacle in December last year, bitcoin has been gradually losing value. However, this week the situation has taken a distinctive turn for the worse, given that in previous weeks it was trading in the mid $ 6,000s.
There have been several theories as to what has led to the disastrous plunge. The most common explanation has been the ongoing battle between the developers of Bitcoin Cash (BCH), a bitcoin off-shoot that was created in mid-2017 by a group of developers seeking to increase its block size limit.
The group itself then split into Bitcoin Cash and Bitcoin Cash Satoshi Version on November 15, and since then they have reportedly been waging a merciless war with each other, dumping large quantities of bitcoins onto the market in the process.
Some, however, say that bitcoin’s slump can be blamed on the usual suspect – the threat of the US financial watchdog tightening crypto regulations and scaring off potential investors.
Last Friday, The Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) released a statement, saying that it would compel some companies holding ICOs (Initial Coin Offerings) to treat their coins as securities, meaning that they will be vulnerable to lawsuits by investors if the tokens falter.

Wild Blossom Meadery and Winery is Chicago’s only meadery on the Northern Illinois Wine Trail. And we’re not talking your standard mead. Wild Blossom is taking the ancient honeyed beverage to new places, establishing itself as a Midwest pioneer in sustainability, production and creative flavors — like one spicy version that might just send your eyes somersaulting backward.
The Wolfcraft — a hoppy, sparkling mead with blood orange — pays homage to both beer and champagne.
With roots in ancient Africa, mead may be the oldest alcoholic drink in human history. Hunter-gatherers in the savanna, the story goes, stumbled upon pools of water containing the fermenting remains of fallen, honey-filled beehives. What probably began with the shy taste of a dipped finger sparked a honey wine love affair. Varieties of the drink now appear everywhere from Lithuania and Finland to Mexico, northern China and Ethiopia. Now, an American public with a growing taste for craft beers and spirits is creating a market for craft mead.

“With mead, we can manipulate it to reflect any style that we’re looking for,” says Greg Fischer, founder and owner of Wild Blossom. The mildly sour Cran Apple Cyser is an apple-infused mead, and Pirates Blood, a hot chili-infused version, is smoky, fiery and sweet (the appropriate skull-shaped bottle retails for $ 19.95). The Wolfcraft — a hoppy, sparkling mead with blood orange — pays homage to both beer and champagne. Then there’s the Charlatan, a dry blueberry mead aged in red wine barrels, and the bourbon barrel-aged Sweet Desire ($ 35.95, 16 percent ABV) that delivers autumn in a glass. At the winery, with its Finger Lakes-esque backyard patio bordering the shaded corner of the Dan Ryan Woods forest preserve, a six-pour flight will set you back $ 12 to $ 15.
Wild Blossom’s meads are made with purified water from Lake Michigan and honey that hails from a variety of local sources: five hives ranging in location from the roof of the Marriott on the “Magnificent Mile” to Indiana’s Ogden Dunes. Each bottle of the sweet, alcoholic final product leads to 2 million flowers pollinated in the area, says Fischer. In addition to meads, Wild Blossom also produces a range of Chicago-themed wines, like South Side Syrah and Chicago Bulls Blood.
The company opened for business nearly 30 years ago as a winery … in a Prohibition-era dry zone. Fischer relied on the skills he had learned as a boy, helping his Italian immigrant grandfather make wine and mead in the family basement. In 2017, Fischer opened the doors to a full-scale meadery, equipped with a tasting room, a 14,000-square-foot backyard and a production space — this time in a building just outside the dry zone.

Still, in beer country, Wild Blossom feels like a hidden gem to those in the know. The new location is helping to change that, as is word of mouth. “People appreciate a local product and our willingness to experiment,” says Fischer. But the new appetite for mead goes to show that it’s not just beer leading the craft craze, at least on Chicago’s South Side.

Malicious message crashes aren’t just for smartphones, it seems. Numerous PS4 owners have reported receiving PSN messages where an unrecognized character effectively bricks their consoles, making them crash and leaving them unable to start properly. And deleting any rogue messages (typically by leaving the conversation in the PS Messages mobile app) isn’t enough by itself — you have to either rebuild the database in Safe Mode or factory reset the system.
You can eliminate the chance of a hostile message by going into your settings (either in the console or the PS Messages app), visiting account management, and then changing your privacy settings so that messages are either limited to friends or switched off.
We’ve asked Sony for comment. The company can likely address this with a software update, and it’s relatively easy to protect yourself in the meantime. However, there’s little doubt that the consequences are serious. Most phone-oriented bugs are troublesome, but won’t necessarily prevent you from using your other apps on your device. Here, a prankster is rendering your PS4 effectively inoperable until you walk through some painstaking troubleshooting steps.

Niantic has released plenty of new quests and raids to complete before the end of August in Pokemon Go.
One of the big new events is catching a shiny Ho Oh, which will only be around for a limited time in Raid boss battles.
“Attention, Trainers! For a limited time until August 27, the Legendary Pokémon Ho-Oh is returning to Raid Battles,” Niantic confirms.
“This will be your chance to end Johto Week with a surprise, as you just might encounter its Shiny form!”
It’s a great new bonus that’s only going to be around for a short time.
It looks like the shiny Ho Oh hunt will be available to battle until around 9pm in the UK, on August 27.
It should also be noted that there is no guarantee you will fight a shiny Ho Oh raid boss either.
The more encounters you take on during the countdown, the more likely it is you will eventually run into one.
But while the return of the Johto Legendary has proven popular with fans, some Trainers are dealing with a frustrating new problem.
Players on iOS are now seeing Pokemon Go crashing during the startup of the Niantic app.
According to users posting online, the problem has been around for the past week and has directly impacted gameplay time.
“Does anyone have a solution for this problem? I’ve made sure the game and my iPhone is updated and I’ve turned my phone off and on a few times,” one fan posts on Reddit.
“Last time this happened I reinstalled the game, but I’d rather not if there is a way to fix this without deleting the game.”
The good news is that a lot of fellow Trainers have seen this problem and found a workaround.
The bad news is that it includes having to delete Pokemon Go and reinstall it.
According to a lot of Trainers affected by this issue, deleting the Pokemon Go app fixes the issue and helps avoid the problem for most.
However, there is a small selection of Trainers who say that they have tried this and still seen issues later on.
“Unfortunately, delete and reinstall is the only fix that worked for me,” one user reports.
“Screencap your teams because you will have to build them again.”
It’s been a pretty busy week with the launch of the Celebi Quest and the return of Ho Oh, so you can understand the level of frustration felt by those affected.
This problem looks to be localised to just the iOS platform, with no significant reports of the same issue hitting Trainers on Android.
An official fix was expected to be included in today’s Pokemon Go update, however, following the patch, some Trainers are still seeing crash problems.
An official answer on the issue could be shared by Niantic in the near future, so it will be worth keeping an eye on the game’s official social media channels for news.
