HONOLULU (AP) — A civilian contractor for the Hawaii Air National Guard who was participating in a military exercise survived after his plane crashed off the coast of Honolulu, authorities said Wednesday.

U.S. Coast Guard spokeswoman Petty Officer Sara Muir says the pilot is in stable condition after being rescued about 3 miles (4.8 kilometers) south of Oahu near Honolulu’s Sand Island.

An onion-laden truck fell off an elevated highway in western India, spilling its load. But while the injured truck driver was reportedly lying unattended, locals flocked to the site to ransack the cargo, disrupting traffic.

The incident took place on the Pune-Mumbai highway outside the western Indian town of Lonavla earlier this week. The driver of the onion-filled truck lost control of his vehicle and fell at least nine meters (30 feet) off the elevated road.

Shocking footage from the scene has since emerged, showing how locals and fellow motorists rushed to the scene – not to help the critically injured driver, but to plunder the spilled cargo, local media reported.

Videos show people with sacks flocking to the location to steal the spilled onions. Some looters appear to be quite picky, as they search through the onion pile to get only the best of the crop.

The incident and looting that followed disrupted traffic, forcing police to close the road for around an hour due to “security concerns.” The driver managed to survive the crash, and was eventually taken to a local hospital.

Law enforcement will now consider filing a criminal case against “unidentified persons” over the stolen onions.

I remember exactly where I was the first time I played Glory to Rome. It was the spring of 2011. I was on a Thalys high-speed train leaving Amsterdam, headed for Cologne, not far from where I was living at the time in Bonn, Germany. My friend Joe brought this new game straight from the US that he’d recently acquired—he was eager to teach it to me on the train ride.

Joe, who had a penchant for game nights, roped me into board games by teaching me the classic gateway game Catan. From there, I learned Puerto Rico, Power Grid, and many others. There was a period of time when our circle of friends gathered most Fridays over burritos and beer to play one game or another.

But GTR felt different. First, I noticed the packaging. Unlike the high-quality large-format cardboard boxes with soft colors and thoughtful art, GTR came in a compact, cheap, plastic tub that wasn’t much bigger than a large paperback book. Second, and more jarring, was the game’s art. It had a bright color palette and cartoonish characters that seemed like they belonged in a children’s clip art computer game. But hey, who was I to argue with Joe?

A passenger recorded a short video after a Russian Boeing 787 slid off a runway in Sochi, crashing into a river and catching fire on both wings.

“We crashed, but it’s OK, I guess,” a man can be heard calmly saying in a short clip recorded minutes after the airliner crashed into a river in the southern Russian city of Sochi. The video shows flames blazing in the night, and some people can be heard shouting at the background.

The incident happened on Saturday after the plane skidded off a runway during a late-night emergency landing. All 166 people on board survived, the Health Ministry said, adding that 18 passengers, including several children, received injuries.

The only fatality of the night was that of an airport employee, who led the first response team. He was rushed to a hospital with heart failure and died en route.

An airplane employee took off in a plane without permission at Sea-Tac Airport in Seattle, Washington and later crashed in Puget Sound, the airport confirmed Friday night. There were no other passengers on board.

Many tech companies have to write code to adapt to China’s strict rules, including its denial of Taiwan’s independent status. However, Apple’s approach to it may have been… slightly buggy. Security researcher Patrick Wardle has reported that iOS 11.3 and earlier included a bug that would crash some users’ devices whenever they wrote “Taiwan” or used the Taiwanese flag emoji, regardless of the app. While some aspects of the flaw remained mysterious to Wardle, he determined that certain language/region settings would return a “null” code, prompting the crash when referencing the island.

You may have noticed that we’re referring to the bug in the past tense — that’s because it’s thankfully been fixed as of iOS 11.4.1. And unlike some of Apple’s past text-related bugs, it wasn’t guaranteed to happen. You could even fix it yourself in an interim fashion by switching back and forth between China and another region. Still, it’s not exactly the kind of bug you want to have — especially not for people who have good reason to talk about Taiwan in regular conversation.

Google Maps Street View, created in 2007, uses 360-degree panoramic views to open up the world to online users.

First launched in the US, it has since extended to hundreds of countries and some of the most remote areas.

Google Maps has covered many streets and roads across the world capturing exciting shots of the natural world, poignant moments between couples and numerous embarrassing incidents.

One such awkward snapshot photographed by Google Maps Street View is this image of a crashed car in Central Shasta, California and its seemingly overwhelmed driver crouched by the side of the road.

The Jeep Grand Cherokee seems completely written off. Its bonnet is crumpled, its front tire flat and the front of the vehicle utterly crushed.

However, what is intriguing about the scene is that there is no hint as to what the jeep actually crashed into.

The car has come to a stop in the middle of the road and although there are trees and shrubs at the side of the road, the vehicle isn’t anywhere near them.

One explanation might be that the motorist drove into the tree and then reversed a little way back onto the road before the car failed completely.

The driver can be seen crouched behind the car on the grass verge head in hands. It is presumed he is devastated about what has happened to his truck. No one else can be seen.

To add another mystery into the story, the Google team seem to have blurred out some of the ground next to the driver.

No clue is given as to what they might be trying to hide – perhaps the man felt so sick he couldn’t keep down his lunch?

Shasta State Historic Park was once a bustling town in the 1900’s and was an important base of operations when gold was found nearby. 

However the place sadly passed into ‘ghost town’ status after the Central Pacific Railroad was built in the mid 1880s and bypassed Shasta.

Today the park features the ruins of the gold mining town and some of the original 19th century truck buildings have even been restored.

Other bizarre crashes have also been captured by Google Maps Street View, such as the lorry that ploughed into a ditch by the side of the road in Mexico only for a pick-up truck half its size to come to its rescue.

Another bad crash took place in Scotland where Google photographed a woman standing over her car.

However her car is no longer on the road having reversed into a ditch.

A very embarrassing situation to have shared with her family and friends, never mind the general public.

Fortunately for this women she isn’t alone, two passers by appear to have stopped to help her out.

Other awkward photographs from Google Maps include a man who was snapped while he crouched for an al fresco toilet break behind his van parked at the side of the road next to a wall.
