Australian coach Justin Langer must manage keeper Tim Paine’s workload while replacing banned Steve Smith and David Warner for next month’s one-day series against England.

Head is the most experienced leader of a young cohort including injury plagued Mitch Marsh and Pat Cummins. Victorian opener Aaron Finch, 31, has led Australia in two 50-over and nine T20 games and favourite as interim captain if Paine doesn’t tour England.

“You have to give guys a chance to lead. Travis got an opportunity, albeit possibly before he was ready,” said Cox, with Australia’s one-day tour squad announced next week.

“He has captained sides into some big finals. It would be a nice reward for some foresight a few years back.”

Marsh is sidelined by an ankle injury until next summer while Paine, 33, was relieved by gun understudy Alex Carey in 50-over and Twenty20 last summer.

Cox, as South Australian high performance manager, blooded batsman Head in 2011 before appointed its youngest skipper aged 21 in 2015.

“Hopefully that opportunity he got from his home state pays dividends and selectors say ‘if his state was prepared to give him an opportunity four years ago, he has led them to finals and Strikers T20 title, give him a crack’,” said Cox.

Cox noted Head’s 58 average across five one-day games opening for Australia compared to 36 over 34 games.

“Him and Finch seem like a pretty dangerous combo to me,” Cox told The Advertiser.

The heroic officer was murdered in an act of bravery as an unnamed man charged into the Houses of Parliament and stabbed him in what police have called a terrorist attack. 

Almost a year after Labour MP Jo Cox was killed by an extremist, her late husband told Piers Morgan, 51, and Susanna Reid, 46, that he knew what Palmer’s family were going through. 

“I think it’s just the sense of loss and knowing what those families will be feeling, those people that didn’t come back yesterday,” he said. “The people who this morning will be waking up without their mums and dads.

“I think we have to understand what happened and we have to tackle it, but one of the things I also want to make sure that we do is we remember the people that died – not just the person that committed this act.

“I think we should be focussing on those heroes, I think we should be focussing on the victims and their families, I think we should be telling the stories of PC Palmer, the remarkable person who, unarmed, put his life on the line to save people, to save the values that we care about.”

He continued: “One of the reasons that people do this, whether they’re motivated by Islamism or whether they’re motivated by far-right ideologies for notoriety, and one of the things I hope we don’t fall into the trap of, is giving them what they want. That’s both about the notoriety but also we have to respond to this together, united against this extremism and make sure we don’t make the mistake of dividing amongst ourselves.”

 “I don’t think we should rise above it, I don’t think we should be calm about it, I think we should confront it.”

Brendan also urged viewers to look at the horrific events, which has been presumed to be linked to Islam, without prejudice. 

“If you look around us, the people who are protecting us they’re from all faiths and backgrounds they’re all races and religions,” he stressed. “We have to remember that we’re united against these extremists no matter what their background. If we do that we’ll succeed.

“These are extremists. We have to take them on and defeat them but without making the mistake that they represent the broader group.”

Viewers praised Brendan in their droves on Twitter as he moved a nation to tears.

“Huge respect for Brendan Cox being able to come on tv today and talk about the one thing that ripped his world apart,” commended one, as another agreed: “Great interview of good inspirational man Brendan cox by Piers and the lovely Susanna.”

The 52-year-old appeared on the US version of the BBC’s hit show Who Do You Think You Are? which sees celebrities explore their family tree, often with extraordinary results. 

However, Courtney hoped to find her distant relatives had achieved all sorts of heroic greatness, only to learn that they’d murdered royalty.

Speaking on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, Courtney’s former Friends star and executive producer of the reality series, Lisa Kudrow revealed the mother-of-one was in for a shock. 

“She was hoping that her family were good people, and no-one murdered anyone,” she said. “And it turns out her ancestors murdered the King of England.”

Courtney’s shock past comes after Danny Dyer discovered he was descended from royalty and related to Thomas Crowell. 

Lisa’s confession comes after she recently recalled a horrifying sexist incident on the set of Friends after being confronted by unnamed guest star. 

Appearing on US TV’s Watch What Happens Live, she told host Andy Cohen about the time was called “f**kable” after she put makeup on.

“I rehearsed without makeup most of the week,” she explained. “And then on show night I’m in hair and makeup and I was told, ‘Oh wow, NOW you’re’ – can I say it? ‘Now you’re f**kable.’”

She added that she later told her co-star and Top Gear host Matt LeBlanc, because “he’s like a big brother”.

Brendan Cox spoke to Susanna Reid and Piers Morgan to make a plea to unite the country in the face of an ordeal too horrific to comprehend. 

Jo was brutally shot and killed outside her constituency office in Birstall, West Yorkshire, in an act of extreme “hatred” in the midst of the Brexit row which divided the nation. 

It’s been almost a year since Jo’s death and now her husband said the pain is still very fresh. 

“It still feels very early,” he said. “I think when something like this happens, when it’s so sudden, the shock insulates you from some of that pain over the first few days and weeks, but that fades.”

He added: “At the time, I said I’d do two things: To make sure kids are ok – that they feel protected, that they feel safe – and take on this hatred that killed Jo and bring communities together, so I’m throwing myself into those things.”

After footage of Jo played out on screen, Brendan confessed seeing his wife’s extraordinary smile and spirit brings it all back. 

“Whenever I see hear voice or I see her image, it brings a lot of things back,” he explained. “That’s the thing with grief – feel like your on an level keep and then a smell, or picture…”

Brendan blamed the “shrillness” in the political debate on breeding extremism in the United Kingdom.  

When Piers suggested Jo’s death was the result of mental instability, Brendan hit back: ”There was no mental instability there, it was hatred.”

Ahead of the first anniversary of Jo’s murder, Brendan is planning an enormous community event to bring thousands of people together across the country, launched by The Jo Cox Foundation. 

“Jo was obsessed with loneliness,” Brendan stressed. “People don’t know each other on their street so on the anniversary I thought, ‘how do we remember Jo like Jo?’

“I didn’t want it to be about mourning, I want it to have that energy. The killing of Jo was designed to divide communities, so what better way to respond than bring them together?”

The Great Get Together takes place on the weekend of 17-18 June and is expected to mark the biggest local celebration since the Queen’s diamond Jubilee.
