To close off the show, the presenters had a debate about mittens seeing the icy chills the weather forecasted for the day. “Hood up, scarf on, hat on,” said Naga. “Gloves?” asked Mike Bushell “Mittens!” replied Jon, while Mike was baffled by the idea. “I had gloves and mittens on yesterday when I went for a walk,” said Naga. BBC Breakfast continues daily at 6am on BBC One. Bradley quizzed player: “Do you think you’ve messed it up?” to which he said: “I think I have, actually.” However, the fact the player got the correct answer despite not knowing which option to choose from prompted Mark to go on a joking tirade. The Beast explained: “All the other letters up there are worth one, ‘w’ and ‘v’ are worth four, so ‘Ten’ is worth three, ‘Eleven’ is worth nine and ‘Twelve’ is worth 12…” But he soon lost his patience adding: “I knew it, you fluked it, next!” as Bradley tried to cleverly work out the Scrabble value of the word next to lighten the mood. “At auction, I would expect to see between £10,000 and £15,000,” he said. Shocked, the owner said: “Wow for a sewing machine.” “But not just a sewing machine,” Jon quipped. “The rarest you could ever find.” Antiques Roadshow is available to watch on BBC iPlayer. Bradley Walsh, 59, was joined by the Sinnerman star Paul Sinha, 49, on this afternoon’s edition of The Chase as four new contestants tried their luck at winning the jackpot. After 52-year-old Linda was sent home minutes into the game, student Ashley became the first player to make it through to the final round of the ITV quiz show. Contestant Trevor also failed to make it to the Final Chase, with the last player of the day Stuart joining Ashley to claim the cash prize. With £9,000 at stake, Ashley and Stuart gave Paul a run for his money as they built up 20 points between him and the jackpot. The contestants were offered several push-backs as Paul answered Bradley’s questions, but a few of them Ashley and Stuart failed to guess correctly. One question posed to the pair was: “A sequel to what Anna Kendrick musical film came out in 2015?” Whereas Paul passed, Ashley seemed confident she knew the answer by telling Bradley it was Pitch Perfect 2. However, Bradley told her she was incorrect as Ashley had misinterpreted the question, with the host explaining: “It is not Pitch Perfect 2, that was the sequel.” Viewers watching at home weren’t too happy, with one posting on Twitter: “@ITV – “What sequel to what Anna Kendrick musical film was released in 2015?” – they were told it was wrong… but it is Pitch Perfect 2… #TheChase. Another added after Ashley failed to correctly answer another push-back: “That’s a shame. She knew that, David Guetta. Couldn’t recall his name. Feel so sorry for her. Also Pitch Perfect was *almost* a trick question the way it was worded. #TheChase.” READ MORE: The Chase: ‘Does that ring a bell?’ Bradley Walsh SCOLDS contestant after odd confession A third simply wrote: “Oh f**k off #thechase #pitchperfect2,” as Bradley explained the real question being asked. With several failed attempts to push Paul back, the Sinnerman beat the contestants, meaning they walked away with nothing. Bradley said they could have got the jackpot as their was only four seconds to spare if they’d answered the Pitch Perfect question correctly. “Ashley, don’t be so disappointed. You played brilliantly well,” the host told the dismayed contestant. Commending the pair, Paul said: “That was a great game.” “Yet, we all made mistakes,” the Sinnerman continued. “Me and Ashely between us should have come up with David Guetta’s name and if Stuart had got William The Conqueror, the whole thing would have been a very, very different game.” Commenting on the contestant’s efforts, viewers posted on Twitter with one sharing: “What a shame, they did so well! #thechase.” Another opined: “Two easy push backs and couldn’t execute!! Unlucky, but good work #THECHASE.” Whilst a third remarked: “That was so close! #TheChase. Think they could of won if they got Pitch Perfect.”

BEIJING (Reuters) – China’s propaganda work has been “absolutely correct” and those who work in the field should be trusted, President Xi Jinping told top officials, amid domestic criticism China has messed up its messaging over a trade dispute with the United States.

A British couple missed out on a five day holiday to China due to a confusion over a new visa law.
Ian and Jane Swann, from Devon, were travelling from New Zealand to China when the incident occurred.
After visiting their son in Christchurch, they decided to fly to Beijing to take advantage of a new visa regulation which allows travels 144 hours without a visa.
This means that for six days, travellers can travel between the two countries and be expect from a visa.
However, when attempting to fly with Qantas Airways, they were refused to board.
The check-in staff at the airport in Christchurch prevented the couple from being allowed on the flight.
Mr Swann told The Independent: “They say we do not have a visa and their information is we require an approved visa prior to boarding flight.”
They then asked if they could instead travel to Sydney, which they had the correct documentation for in the hopes of heading to the Qantas headquarters.
Yet when this was also refused, the couple were forced to book a new flight with Emirates, costing £1,164.
They also missed out on visiting China and meant they travelled back to the UK via Dubai.
A spokesperson for Qantas told The Independent: “We apologise for the inconvenience caused to the Swann family who were incorrectly denied travel from Christchurch to Beijing for allegedly not having the required visas.
“We’re working with our check-in team to ensure this mistake doesn’t happen again and have reached out to the customer to offer compensation.”
The couple has said that they have since been offered £137 in compensation.
Qantas Airways have been contacted by Express.co.uk.
The ban follows on from another couple who were prohibited from flying thanks to visa issues.
A couple who were flying with EasyJet were attempting to travel to Turkey.
Yet when boarding, their e-Visas which they had downloaded were not allowed and were told they had to print them off.
This goes against the rules given by the Foreign Office which states an electronic copy is allowed.
It states: “Print off and carry a paper copy of your e-Visa, or make sure you have an electronic copy on a smartphone or other device to show to the immigration officer.”
Good Morning Britain reporter, Jonathan Swain, was in south west London revealing the details of Ant’s arrest following a car accident yesterday when he appeared to struggle to remember the name of Declan Donnelly.
Standing by the scene of the incident, Jonathan could be heard noting: “This happened just a few hours, less than 24 hours after him presenting Saturday Night Takeaway with his er, other, his er friend, er Dec and then much publicised problems in his personal life.
“Recently announced that he is going to divorce his wife, Lisa, of 11 years and he checked himself into rehab didn’t he for the addiction to painkillers.
“So lots of problems in his personal life and the incident that happened here yesterday, Piers and Susanna, certainly won’t help that will it?”
Back in the ITV studios, Piers Morgan replied: “Nope it certainly won’t, he’s had a lot going on, that’s for sure.”
He went on to correct the reporter, commenting: “By the way Jonathan, it’s Dec is the name of the other guy.”
“Declan,” his co-host Susanna Reid chipped in.
Piers, 52, continued: “He appeared to be struggling to remember who dear old Declan is.”
“I know,” sighed Susanna.
It came just moments after Strictly Come Dancing star Anton Du Beke presented the entertainment news and Piers hit out at the Spice Girls.
Anton was discussing whether or not the girl band could make a return when the father-of-four insisted that they “had their moment”.
“I’m never too sure about these comebacks, I’ve got to say, I think they have a moment in time,” Piers said.
“The Spice Girls had a moment in time, girl power, it was all fantastic. I’m not so sure it’s such a good idea to come back.”
Anton wanted to know what Piers thought they could do instead.
“Mummy power,” Piers replied. “They’re all mums now.”
Good Morning Britain airs weekdays on ITV at 6am.
The 29-year-old actress plays Lucille Anderson, the first West Indian character on the BBC series, who becomes a vital part of Nonnatus House in the latest series.
In a happy accident, Leonie’s Jamaican heritage stood her in perfect stead to be hired for the part, and her own aunt even moved over to England in the 1960s to train as a nurse.
Yet executive producer Heidi, 55, has revealed that the actress was often checking with her grandmother, in a bid to ensure that the series had historical accuracy.
In an interview with Express.co.uk and other media, the writer shared one of the “simple” mistakes that had to be corrected, and it involved drinking tea.
She explained: “There was one thing actually, it was quite a simple one, there was a spell of hot weather and all the nurses are trying to cool down, and I’d put something in like drinking tea. You know British people always drink tea when it’s hot and it doesn’t work, but I put a reference to what ladies did in Jamaica.
“We went and checked with Leonie’s gran and actually what they used to drink was black coffee when it was hot. They also added a pinch of salt, and that was what they drink in Jamaica in hot weather.
“We would never have had that information and it’s quite ridiculous to that part of the world that she’s from. Sometimes it varies from parish to parish but especially in that parish that’s something they would do.”
The Little Women writer went on to admit how much it “helped” the series by having Leonie on-board because of her history and connection to the story.
She continued: “There was just something about Leonie which was absolutely everything that I wanted, and auditioning for such a major character it’s a long process, but it was instant with her.
“And what was so delightful was once we had her on board we had her fitted for a red cardigan and we started to kind of fit it all together which has been lovely, and quite often with any continuity issues we’d just check that line in the script and Leonie asked her Grandma.
“I think it just really helps to keep it rich because Lucille is obviously younger and she’s looking at the experience of a generation previous to her, which would be my generation, and so she would be getting new information all the time.”
When asked if she knew anything about the connection before hiring Leonie, Heidi insisted that despite the research she’d done it was just a coincidence.
“No, not at all,” she said. “I mean obviously one does loads of research to build a character from the ground up. I mean, for example, Lucille was a librarian and that’s how we had the lovely scene with Sister Monica Joan [Judy Parfitt].
“A lot of these girls were very bright, quite middle class, and they had careers prior to immigration to Britain but nursing was a new opportunity for them so I loved the idea that she had been a librarian.
“But you haven’t been a librarian?” she suddenly asked Leonie.
“No,” the younger actress exclaimed with a laugh.
Call The Midwife season 7 returns tonight at 8pm on BBC One.
Flu symptoms include sore throat, coughing and fever, and catching the virus risks complications such as pneumonia and even death.
Public Health England and the NHS are encouraging people, particularly those in high-risk groups such as children, the elderly and those with chronic illnesses, to protect themselves by getting the flu jab.
However, Calvin Harris, the Scottish DJ and producer, has caused controversy over comments he made last week about the safety of the vaccine.
In a series of since-deleted tweets to Dr Ellie Cannon, a GP and TV presenter – who was defending the vaccine – he claimed that it was a “neurotoxin shot” and suggested that the “mercury” he alleged it contained was harmful.
Harris suggested that the virtues of the flu jab were a “conspiracy theory” and argued that the dangers were acknowledged in “several government medical papers”.
Richard Pebody, acting head of respiratory disease at Public Health England, said it was incorrect of Harris to claim that the flu jab contains potentially-harmful metals, explaining that it does not contain any of the metal mercury.
“All ingredients in the flu vaccine are safe,” he said.
“The main ingredient of any vaccine is the disease-causing virus, bacteria or toxin, but a number of other components are needed to make the final vaccine as safe and effective as possible.”
The confusion over whether the flu vaccine contains mercury may derive from a component that is present in other vaccines.
Pebody said: “There is an ingredient called thiomersal that does contain mercury, but is not present in the flu vaccine.”
According to the World Health Organisation (WHO), thiomersal is a preservative used to prevent bacterial and fungal growth in some inactivated vaccines.
The WHO states: “There is no evidence to suggest that the amount of thiomersal used in vaccines poses a health risk.”
Pebody reiterated that the flu jab was still the best protection against the flu, and was free for many groups in the UK.
“It is crucial that all eligible groups get vaccinated before people start getting flu,” he explained.
“This year the vaccine is available to those aged 65 years or over, those with a long-term health condition such as asthma or diabetes, pregnant women, children aged two to eight as well as those living in a residential or nursing home and the main carer of an older or disabled person.”
