Oh Cook premieres on Amazon Prime Video across the globe today as The Grand Tour fan-favourite James tries his hand at a show well out of his comfort zone. Fans are used to seeing James alongside the likes of Jeremy Clarkson and Richard Hammond on The Grand Tour and Top Gear whizzing around the race track but now, he’ll be chopping, dicing and frying up some tasty dishes instead. And speaking exclusively to Express.co.uk, James announced he’s planning on doing it all over again – whether people watch the debut series or not.

With the first season of Oh Cook premiering in its entirety on Friday, November 13, Express.co.uk asked if he’d be interested in starring in any future episodes.

“I’d love another go at it, yes,” he said. “We’ve planned the second series just in case.”

He continued: “We’ll get a bit more adventurous, we won’t start getting into breeding our own cows or anything like that,

“But we will look more closely at things like health food, diets, going a bit more deeply into you know, using spices, trying to do a few more things from scratch and actually learning the basics of those things.”

“On the whole, (Oh Cook) is less hazardous, I suppose,” James explained. “And people expect me to know what I’m doing and what I’m talking about if I’m driving a car.

“I don’t think anybody thinks I’m particularly well versed in cooking or you know, I’m not an authority.

“But in a lot of ways, the kitchen is quite high pressure because it all happens in real-time, cooking.

“You can’t really uncook something, once you’ve put the egg into poach, you can’t say, ‘well, I’ll just take that out and do that bit again.’

“You’ve got to keep going or you’ve got to start the whole thing,” James said. “Again, which we didn’t want to do.”

“And also everybody there is trying to tell you how to do it. It’s actually quite fractured in the way the kitchens are.

“And that’s true even if you’re not filming in them.

“If you’re trying to cook and you’ve got a lot of people interfering that is – I’m sure most domestic fights start either in the kitchen or around the TV remote control.”

The UK Civil Aviation Authority announced earlier today that Thomas Cook had “ceased trading with immediate effect”. It comes after last-minute negotiations to save the holiday firm failed, putting 22,000 jobs at risk.

BBC Breakfast had reporter Gavin Lee at Palma Airport in Mallorca reporting live on the situation to Charlie Stayt and Louise Minchin back in the studio.

The correspondent attempted to speak to Thomas Cook staff members as well as holidaymakers who had booked with the company.

However, he wasn’t met with much of a response as employees he approached did not wish to talk about the situation on air.

He told viewers: “One of the staff said to me this morning that she was devastated, she’s also got to work out how to get home to the UK. They don’t want to speak on camera this morning.”

While another chimed in: “Totally out of order speaking to the Thomas Cook staff at the airport. They have lost their jobs. Leave them alone. #bbcbreakfast.”

“Can #bbcbreakfast stop harrassing innocent #ThomasCook employees?” a third asked.

A fourth questioned: “Why, oh why are #bbcbreakfast spending a whole morning harassing Thomas Cook staff who have just lost their jobs?”

“@BBCBreakfast and @BBCNews Not impressed with your man in Palma trying to speak with staff that turned up when they didn’t have to and pointing the camera at the girls in the office who’d said they didn’t want to speak on camera either. Distasteful to people who have lost jobs through no fault of their own,” a fifth opined.

But not everyone was reluctant to talk to Gavin as he did hear from holidaymaker Christopher who was concerned about the situation.

Christopher: “We were lucky, we were going back on EasyJet but our reps work for Thomas Cook so we got here on a third party coach to get back today but we were worried you see because we’re going back to work but it’s a shame what happened.

“I just feel sorry for what’s happening for all the people who’ve got to get back who are struggling.”

BBC Breakfast airs weekdays at 6am on BBC One.

Apple CEO Tim Cook calls on Bloomberg to retract its Chinese spy story

(credit: Wikipedia)

Apple CEO Tim Cook is calling on Bloomberg Business to retract a story that said his company was the victim of a hardware-based attack carried out by the Chinese government. It’s the first time Apple has ever publicly demanded a retraction, according to BuzzFeed.

Since Bloomberg published the exclusive article 15 days ago, a gaggle of companies, well-placed government officials, and security researchers have publicly challenged its accuracy. Apple and Amazon have said they have no knowledge of ever finding or removing servers that contained the kind of spy chips Bloomberg alleged were found in the companies’ networks. Supermicro has also denied knowing anything about malicious chips being secretly implanted into any of its motherboards during the manufacturing process, as Bloomberg reported.

Meanwhile, an official from the US Department of Homeland Security has said he has no reason to doubt the Apple and Amazon denials, and a top official with the National Security Agency has said the vast resources at his disposal have been unable to confirm the report. As Ars reported last week, hardware experts, including two who were contacted by Bloomberg when reporting the story, said the kind of chip-based backdoors alleged by Bloomberg are extremely complex, particularly when introduced in the supply chain. They said state-sponsored attackers likely would prefer to exploit the numerous firmware vulnerabilities that affect motherboards from Supermicro and other makers.

Alastair Cook RETIRES: England opener and Ashes hero to quit international cricket https://briefnews.eu/alastair-cook-retires-england-opener-and-ashes-hero-to-quit-international-cricket/ https://briefnews.eu/alastair-cook-retires-england-opener-and-ashes-hero-to-quit-international-cricket/#respond Mon, 03 Sep 2018 11:49:13 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/alastair-cook-retires-england-opener-and-ashes-hero-to-quit-international-cricket/

Alastair Cook RETIRES England

Cook captained England for four years, leading them to a famous Test series triumph in India within 12 months of his reign.

The opener stepped down as captain of the Test team two years ago and will now hang up his international gloves for good, leaving as England’s leading runs scorer of all time.

And he maintained that the timing was right saying that he had “nothing left in the tank”.

“After much thought and deliberation over the last few months I have decided to announce my retirement from international cricket at the end of this Test series against India,” he said.

“Although it is a sad day, I can do so with a big smile on my face knowing I have given everything and there is nothing left in the tank.”

has played 160 Tests for England scoring 12,254 runs and led the side as captain for 59 matches between March 2010 and December 2016.

But a sustained dip in form in the last 12 months have brought him to the conclusion that now is the right time to go.

“I have achieved more than I could have ever imagined and feel very privileged to have played for such a long time alongside some of the greats of the English game,” he said.

“The thought of not sharing the dressing room, again, with some of my teammates was the hardest part of my decision, but I know the timing is right.”

“There are too many people to thank individually, but a special mention must go to Graham Gooch.

“As a seven year-old I queued for his autograph outside Essex County Cricket Club and years later was so fortunate to have him mentoring me.

“Graham was my sounding board, especially in the early years of my career, spending hour after hour throwing balls at me with his dog stick. He made me realise you always need to keep improving whatever you are trying to achieve.

“My family and I have had 12 wonderful years fulfilling my dreams and this could not have been done without them. So I wish to thank my parents and brothers, my wife, Alice, and her family for their quiet, unwavering support behind the scenes.”

Cook has endured a miserable summer at the crease with England, averaging just 15 runs during the current Test series with India.

It is in stark contrast to the form he showed during the peak of his career, where he knocked two centuries and a double-ton during the triumphant 2010/11 Ashes tour.

Cook surrendered the Test captaincy in 2016, handing over duties to Joe Root, but has continued to bat at the top of the order.

It is understood he will continue to play first-class cricket for Essex, as well as other short-form versions of the game.

Cook broke into the Test team back in 2006 and helped form the backbone of the team after the triumphant 2005 Ashes series on home soil.

He took over the captaincy from Andrew Strauss six years later and oversaw a mixed period of results.

England lost the Ashes in Australia last winter – a crushing 4-0 defeat on Root’s first tour Down Under as captain.

Cook then contributed just 23 runs in four innings during England’s short Test series in New Zealand.

Discussing his form in April, Cook said: “In New Zealand I just never got going. That tour kind of passed me by.

“It is frustrating when you go all that way, you train, and you just don’t turn up. It does happen.

“If you play 100-odd Test matches, there’s going to be little periods when you don’t score the runs. I’ve always managed to turn it around.

“The last six months, I’ve never been quite so inconsistent. I still averaged 47 last year. I could still average 47 this year.

“I go back to India in 2011, I was averaging five in the first two Test matches, ended up with 290 at Edgbaston, and the whole series changed.

“But since I’ve come home I’ve started to look at my preparation. Have I got my preparation right? Do I need to change things? Because that’s the right way to do it.

“I will never sit here and say I’ve cracked the game or will ever be perfect. But there’s certain things that have gone too far this way or that way.”

Mary: I was naughty…so I learnt to cook https://briefnews.eu/mary-i-was-naughty-so-i-learnt-to-cook/ https://briefnews.eu/mary-i-was-naughty-so-i-learnt-to-cook/#respond Sun, 02 Sep 2018 01:55:22 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/mary-i-was-naughty-so-i-learnt-to-cook/

Speaking at the annual Chatsworth Country Fair in Derbyshire, Mary said: “I got into cooking because I was rather naughty at school. When I was 13 you could either do Latin and maths or you could do cooking, so I naturally chose cooking.”

Mary, who gave demonstrations to the crowd, called for the return of school cookery lessons so youngsters learn how to make healthy meals.

She said: “I think it is very sad that we don’t have cooking in schools because it means that there are people who are going to leave school and haven’t got the knowledge. They could cook maybe eight things, inexpensively, and when they go off on an apprenticeship or to live on their own, they can cook food that is not junk.”

During her presentation, Mary prepared a pavlova dessert – proving it had the correct consistency by tipping the mixing bowl over her assistant Lisa’s head.

She also told how she met her dance hero, Strictly judge Darcey Bussell, and told the ex-ballerina she had named her beloved dog after her.

“I have Darcey, who is a working cocker, and I named her after Darcey Bussell because she is very beautiful and she moves so beautifully,” Mary said.

“When I went to watch Strictly, I told Darcey and she was quite flattered.”

Passengers ‘throw up’ as they're made to stay in boiling Thomas Cook plane for 3 hours https://briefnews.eu/passengers-throw-up-as-theyre-made-to-stay-in-boiling-thomas-cook-plane-for-3-hours/ https://briefnews.eu/passengers-throw-up-as-theyre-made-to-stay-in-boiling-thomas-cook-plane-for-3-hours/#respond Mon, 02 Jul 2018 13:37:48 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/passengers-throw-up-as-theyre-made-to-stay-in-boiling-thomas-cook-plane-for-3-hours/

Thomas Cook has attracted numerous complaints after 214 passengers were left stranded on a plane without air conditioning for three hours at Zante airport.

The conditions were so awful that some passengers vomited and fainted while others were bathed in sweat and forced to strip in order to cool down.

Flight MH1805 was due to depart Zante for Stansted airport yesterday afternoon at 2pm.

However, the flight was first delayed when passengers were told the plane needed to be refuelled.

When the holidaymakers boarded they were told to remain in the plane for three hours, despite it remaining on the tarmac.

The aircraft did not have functioning air conditioning, proving a health hazard for many.

One passenger, Kerry Shippey, tweeted: “Nobody minds a delay, things happen, but keeping people in a tin can in 40 degree heat so that people are passing out and throwing up is taking things a little far don’t you think?”

Another passenger told The Sun that some travellers were even having panic attacks.

Whenever they asked for an update on the service, cabin crew allegedly told passengers that the flight was due to take off in minutes.

Eventually, however, the flight was cancelled due to a technical issue.

The passengers were provided with accommodation but diabetic Isabella Wright told The Independent that it was so “dirty and unhygienic” she didn’t have enough clean space to administer essential injections.

Thomas Cook has said that refreshments were provided but numerous passengers have said they received nothing.

“We were given no food at all for over four hours,” tweeted Liv Sanders.

“Thomas Cook we were given no refreshments wrong information,” Jackajary tweeted.

A Thomas Cook Airlines spokeswoman told Express.co.uk: “Flight MT1805 from Zante to Stansted was delayed due to a technical issue with the on board air conditioning.

“We tried to fix the issue so that we could get customers on their way as soon as possible, but we recognise that we should have disembarked the aircraft earlier. We are very sorry for the discomfort our customers experienced.

“The flight departed Zante at 9am local time this morning and arrived in Stansted at 11am. All customers were given a letter of apology with detail on their entitlement to compensation.”

A flight delayed in India recently had the opposite problem when the air conditioning was blasted so strongly into the aircraft cabin people were left, yelling, coughing and even vomiting.

A clip from inside in the plane shows the passengers shouting loudly and complaining as the mist swirls around the cabin nearly obscuring the people.

AirAsia India acknowledged the delay in a statement and explained that the air conditioning had been turned on as a result of “high humidity conditions.”

  • Speaking at the Fortune CEO Initiative in San Francisco Monday evening, Apple CEO Tim Cook explained why he chose to speak publicly against President Trump’s immigration policies.
  • Cook thinks CEOs should be cautious about commenting on issues where they don’t have “significant standing,” but urged CEOs to speak out when a public policy doesn’t align with their company values.
  • “If you don’t [speak out], you’re in the appalling silence of good people category, and this is something I’ve never wanted to be a part of,” Cook said.

SAN FRANCISCO — Apple CEO Tim Cook thinks chief executives should speak out when public policy contradicts their companies values.

Speaking at the Fortune CEO Initiative on Monday evening, Cook said he thinks companies should only speak out when they have a “significant standing” in a public issue. But he urged company leaders to be vocal when public policy contradicts their stated company values.
