As with the Android version Razer revealed a few months ago, the gamepad costs $ 100. You can order it from Razer's website.

The biggest change from the first Kishi is to the mechanism that holds the two sides together and keeps your phone in place. Razer has ditched the flexible bridge in favor of a sturdier sliding version (similar to the setup used by its rival, Backbone). This makes Kishi V2 compatible with all modern iPhones —namely iPhone 6S and later handsets, as well as both iPhone SE generations. What's more, if you remove the rubber inserts, you may be able to keep your phone's case on when you slot it into place.

Additionally, Razer has swapped out the switches, replacing the V1's membranes with the microswitches from its Wolverine V2 console controllers. "This delivers advantages in actuation responsiveness, comfort and tactile feedback," Razer claims. Meanwhile, there's now a Share button on the front and two additional programmable buttons next to the triggers.

Users can set up those buttons in the Razer Nexus app. You'll also need that app to share your gameplay on YouTube or Facebook when you hit the Share button. Moreover, you'll be able to find supported games through the app, which you can launch with a dedicated gamepad button.

The Kishi V2 works with cloud gaming devices (including Xbox Cloud Gaming and Google Stadia), remote play apps for consoles and PC and iPhone games that support MFi controllers. There's a Lightning port for passthrough charging but, sadly, no 3.5mm headphone jack.

8BitDo adapter adds wireless controller support to PlayStation Classic https://briefnews.eu/8bitdo-adapter-adds-wireless-controller-support-to-playstation-classic/ https://briefnews.eu/8bitdo-adapter-adds-wireless-controller-support-to-playstation-classic/#respond Mon, 10 Dec 2018 17:30:06 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/8bitdo-adapter-adds-wireless-controller-support-to-playstation-classic/

The PlayStation Classic, Sony’s retro console that includes 20 PS1 games, arrived last week, and for those of us who prefer to play a little further away from the TV than wired controllers allow, a solution is on the way. Later this month, 8BitDo is releasing a USB adapter that lets you use its own wireless controllers with the console, along with Sony’s DualShock 3 and 4, Bluetooth Xbox controllers, Switch Pro, Wii U Pro and even Joy-Cons.

The adapter will provide lag-free connections between your controller and the console, according to 8BitDo, which should prove useful for your Tekken 3 fights and Ridge Racer Type 4 races. Pre-orders are now open for the $ 20 adapter, which starts shipping December 31st.

The May unveil of the Xbox Adaptive Controller included a pledge from Microsoft: the company didn’t care if other gaming companies jumped on board, or even piggybacked on Microsoft’s product, to get more limited-mobility users into console gaming.

Neither Sony nor Nintendo has followed suit by unveiling official support for the $ 100 XAC, but one enterprising user has confirmed what we long suspected. Other consoles (in today’s case, the Nintendo Switch) can nimbly support Microsoft’s ambitious controller after jumping through simple hoops.

YouTube user MyMateVince posted his confirmation over the weekend (embedded below) along with a step-by-step guide of what’s needed to open the Nintendo Switch up to the XAC—and, thus, its support for USB joysticks and 3.5mm-port switches and pedals. The biggest requirement is a third-party USB adapter, and this test used the Mayflash MAGIC-NS Wireless Controller Adapter (currently under $ 25 at Amazon). This adapter was chosen in part because its retail box includes a USB Type-C adapter, which works with the XAC whether you set up the Nintendo Switch in docked or handheld mode. (Though this adapter is advertised as a wireless one, this test only confirmed wired XAC support.)

Hero air traffic controller dies helping last plane escape Indonesian earthquake and tsunami https://briefnews.eu/hero-air-traffic-controller-dies-helping-last-plane-escape-indonesian-earthquake-and-tsunami/ https://briefnews.eu/hero-air-traffic-controller-dies-helping-last-plane-escape-indonesian-earthquake-and-tsunami/#respond Sat, 29 Sep 2018 18:05:45 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/hero-air-traffic-controller-dies-helping-last-plane-escape-indonesian-earthquake-and-tsunami/ A young Indonesian air traffic controller stayed on duty as the earthquake shook the building, to make sure one last aircraft escaped Friday’s deadly disaster. He was fatally injured fleeing afterwards.

Anthonius Gunawan Agung was the last person remaining in the air traffic control tower at Mutiara Sis Al Jufri Airport in Palu when the 7.7 quake hit the city on the Indonesian island of Sulawesi.

While his colleagues ran for their lives as the tower swayed violently from the shocks, Agung, 21, remained steadfast to ensure that Batik Air Flight 6321 got off the ground, as deep fissures and cracks began to appear on the runway.

When the plane took off to safety, further trembling hit the tower. Fearing that he would be trapped beneath the rubble, Agung jumped the four stories off the tower, landing on the ground where he sustained a broken leg and internal injuries.

He was rushed to a nearby hospital where doctors decided to send him to a bigger one for better treatment. However, he died before the helicopter transporting him could reach its destination. He was just one month shy of his 22nd birthday.

Tributes to Agung’s bravery were led by Yohannes Sirait, spokesman for Air Navigation Indonesia, who said Agung’s sacrifice had potentially saved the lives of hundreds of people.

“He gave clearance for this flight, and if he left his post before the plane was airborne, hundreds of people inside the plane might be in danger,” he said.

“Unfortunately we lost him this morning before the helicopter reached Palu.”

Hundreds of tributes have since flooded in, with Agung given a hero’s farewell earlier Saturday as soldiers carried his body to be transported to the burial.

In acknowledgement of his bravery and sacrifice, AirNav Indonesia officials raised his rank by two levels saying that he “demonstrated tremendous dedication” in providing flight safety.

At least 384 people have so far been confirmed dead and over 500 people injured as a result of Friday’s earthquake and tsunami.

Palu airport has been damaged to the extent that it has lost at least 500 meters of its 2,500 meter-long runway, but is still operational for rescue aircraft.

Article intro image

Microsoft’s newest game accessory, the Xbox Adaptive Controller, probably isn’t for you. That’s just an odds game, when counting the percentage of people who fall into the “limited mobility” camp that this strange, unique controller is aimed at.

But that’s the incredible thing about the XAC: that it’s targeting a particularly fractured audience. Limited mobility is a giant, vague category, after all, with so many physical ailments to account for (let alone psychological ones). And previous answers in the gaming sphere have typically been specialized, one-of-a-kind controllers for single hands, feet, heads, and more.

XAC wins out in an odd way: by leaving some major work in users’ hands. This $ 99 lap-sized device is truly incomplete on its own, as it’s designed from the ground up to require add-on joysticks, buttons, and more. As a result, there’s no way to fully review the possibilities Microsoft’s XAC opens up for disabled gamers. Still, we’ve put a retail unit through its paces to see what kind of accessibility canvas this revolutionary “controller” opens up—and exactly how it works—to help limited-mobility gamers and their caretakers decide if its functionality, ease-of-use, and practical cost is right for them.

AUDIO emerges of conversation between Seattle hijacker & air traffic controller https://briefnews.eu/audio-emerges-of-conversation-between-seattle-hijacker-air-traffic-controller/ https://briefnews.eu/audio-emerges-of-conversation-between-seattle-hijacker-air-traffic-controller/#respond Sat, 11 Aug 2018 13:40:22 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/audio-emerges-of-conversation-between-seattle-hijacker-air-traffic-controller/

An audio emerged online of a conversation between a man who hijacked a plane from the Seattle Airport and an air-traffic controller. On the clip the hijacker talks about running low on fuel and asks if he’ll get life in jail.

The conversation between the man, addressed as Rich/Richard, and the air-traffic controller right before the Horizon Air Q400 plane crash, was released by Aviation journalist Jon Ostrower on Twitter.

At some point the man starts to worry about the fuel. “I’m down to 2,100 (pounds),” he is heard saying. “I started at 30 something… I don’t know what the burnage is like on takeoff, but it burned quite a bit faster than I expected.”

The air controller tells him there is a runway just off to his right “in about a mile [1.6km],” referring to a military airfield at Joint Base Lewis-McChord. “Oh man,” Rich says, “those guys will rough me up if I try and land there. I think I might mess something up there too. I wouldn’t want to do that. They probably have anti-aircraft.” The controller responds that the authorities were “just trying to find a place for you to land safely.”

“I’m not quite ready to bring it down just yet,” Richard said. “But holy smokes, I got to stop looking at the fuel, because it’s going down quick.”

The man seemed to understand that his actions would have dire consequences. “This is probably jail time for life, huh? I would hope it is for a guy like me,” he said.

Richard then says he feels like one of the engines “is going out or something.” The controller replies: “If you could, you just want to keep that plane right over the water. Keep the aircraft nice and low.”

The man, described by police as a 29-year-old mechanic, says that he has a lot of people that care about him. “It’s going to disappoint them to hear that I did this. I would like to apologize to each and every one of them. Just a broken guy, got a few screws loose, I guess. Never really knew it, until now,” he added.

North American Aerospace Defense Command scrambled two F-15 fighter jets to deal with the Horizon Air plane. While the jets were in pursuit of the small plane, air traffic control helped the rogue plane stay clear of the Seattle cosmopolitan area.

The Pierce County sheriff said that the perpetrator acted alone and “was confirmed a suicidal male.” He stressed that it was not a terrorism-related incident.

On Saturday morning, White House Press Secretary Sarah Sanders told media that President Donald Trump was briefed on the incident and is currently “monitoring the situation” in Seattle.

Independent aviation expert Gerry Soejatman told RT that employees of air companies should be vetted more thoroughly. “This is what we call the inside risk,” he said, explaining that the security measures should not only be aimed at passengers, but also at employees. “People need to realize that flying an aircraft is not hard, flying it correctly is the hard part.”

You can now play Mario Kart 8 with Labo’s cardboard motorbike controller https://briefnews.eu/you-can-now-play-mario-kart-8-with-labos-cardboard-motorbike-controller/ https://briefnews.eu/you-can-now-play-mario-kart-8-with-labos-cardboard-motorbike-controller/#respond Wed, 27 Jun 2018 05:42:24 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/you-can-now-play-mario-kart-8-with-labos-cardboard-motorbike-controller/

In a surprise announcement this morning, Nintendo revealed a free downloadable update for Mario Kart 8 Deluxe that will allow the Switch game to be controlled using the Toy-Con Motorbike controller constructed with the Nintendo Labo Variety Kit.

As shown in a brief preview video, the cardboard enclosure uses the Joy-Con’s gyroscopic motion sensing to detect a handle twist for acceleration and leaning to steer. Cardboard protrusions on the motorbike controller can push buttons on the Joy-Cons to activate items, braking, and drifting. Four sets of motorbike controllers can be used on the game simultaneously.

The setup reminds us of nothing so much as the plastic Wii Wheel accessory that came with Mario Kart Wii, albeit with a bit more assembly required—Nintendo recommends 90 to 150 minutes to put together the Toy-Con motorbike.

Valve’s Knuckles EV2 controller will let you squeeze things in VR https://briefnews.eu/valves-knuckles-ev2-controller-will-let-you-squeeze-things-in-vr/ https://briefnews.eu/valves-knuckles-ev2-controller-will-let-you-squeeze-things-in-vr/#respond Sat, 23 Jun 2018 05:11:40 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/valves-knuckles-ev2-controller-will-let-you-squeeze-things-in-vr/

Valve originally introduced its vertical-grip “Knuckles” controllers for VR in 2016, and shipped working models to developers last year. Now the company sending game makers another version, the EV2, that has revamped buttons, straps and a slew of sensors that essentially translate finger motion and pressure to let you touch, grab and squeeze objects inside games.

Some of the EV2’s changes are evident: The old Steam Controller-style touchpad that dominated the controller’s top has been shrunken to an oval ‘track button’ that measures touch and force. That’s flanked by traditional inputs: A joystick (by developer demand, Valve noted in a blog post) and standard circular buttons. The strap is adjustable for different hand sizes and pulls tight to let players let go of the controller completely without dropping it — which could be key for the pressure inputs.

While last year’s model had touch inputs tracking each finger in the ‘grip’ area, the EV2 introduces pressure sensors that measure how much force the wielder is using. Obviously, this has implications for VR developers who want players to grip or squeeze objects in the world, but as Valve’s blog post points out, combining those with the touch sensors tells games when players let go of the grips — like, say, when they’re throwing things in-game. Imagine how this could allow throwing different baseball pitches, let alone introducing different control schemes.

Lastly, the battery life has been extended to last six hours. Below is a gameplay video of Moondust, a Valve-made demo (set in the Portal universe, natch) that lets developers fiddle with the full range of the EV2’s capabilities. Sadly, there’s no indication that Valve’s latest Knuckles controller is near its final form and ready for the consumer market.
