Meghan Markle and Prince Harry last week issued a lengthy statement in which they outlined the new system they will adopt once they quit the Royal Family, confirming they will not be making use of the Sussex Royal brand after their departure. Royal biographer Tom Bower accused the Duchess of Sussex of infusing the statement with “spiteful fury” aimed at the Queen over the brand and of being “rude” to Her Majesty. But Good Morning Britain contributor Afua Adom hit back at the biographer accusing his of taking the statement “out of context” and contributing to a campaign of “Meghan bashing.”

Ms Adom said: “I think what is spiteful in this instance is the way this whole statement has been interpreted.

“No other part of the statement has been talked about where Harry talked about the work he is going to continue doing on the armed services and the Invictus Games.

“Nobody is talking about the fact they said they want to remain working with the Royal Family, with the Queen but they are not going to do that.

“It would be spiteful if they said they are going to use the term royal anyway – it was a statement, it was very, very factual. There was no emotion in there.”

She added: “People are taking things that they say out of context, blaming solely on Meghan as per usual as people have continuously done over this whole thing, assuming it’s all Meghan as if Harry is weak-willed, assuming she’s somehow ruling him and all-powerful.

“On Friday, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex confirmed they will not be using the Sussex Royal brand while remarking neither the Queen nor other members of the Royal Family have exclusive rights to use the term “royal.”

The statement read: “While there is not any jurisdiction by The Monarchy or Cabinet Office over the use of the word ‘Royal’ overseas, The Duke and Duchess of Sussex do not intend to use ‘Sussex Royal’ or any iteration of the word ‘Royal’ in any territory (either within the UK or otherwise) when the transition occurs Spring 2020.”

The Duke and Duchess have spent the past month living in Canada with their son Archie. Meghan and Harry are expected to settle down in the Commonwealth country for the time being but sources close to the royals suggested they have also been seeking a house in Los Angeles.

The couple have been spotted crossing the border into the US to attend a private JP Morgan conference in Miami earlier this month, during which Prince Harry delivered a speech.

They later travelled to Meghan’s native California to hold meetings with officials at Stanford University’s Palo Alto campus over their plans for their future charitable endeavours.

This morning, Nintendo sent out one of its periodic brag-heavy business press releases, this time focusing on a strong start to the US holiday shopping season. In addition to updates on lifetime US sales for the 3DS family of systems (22 million), and recent Classic Edition systems (2.5 million for SNES Classic, 2 million for NES Classic), the release highlighted more than 8.2 million lifetime US sales for the Nintendo Switch (through November 26).

That sounds pretty impressive for a system that has just hit its 20-month anniversary on retail shelves, without even two full holiday seasons under its belt. But we wanted to figure out just how those sales stack up to the competition. So we tracked down some numbers for past consoles for comparison. As you can see, the Switch’s US sales pace puts it in some pretty elite company:

The announcement comes a day after the human rights chief expressed shock over Israel’s use of force against the Palestinians; in a crackdown, the roots of which, “can sadly be traced directly back to the unilateral US announcement on the status of Jerusalem.” Stating that Washington’s decision to move its Israeli capital to Jerusalem was “dangerously provocative,” Hussein added that Trump’s initiative goes against “international consensus.”

It’s not the first time that the UN’s human rights chief has criticized the American leader, who after assuming office, is seen trying to reshape the global political environment, focussing particularly on the Middle East and the Korean peninsula. Even before Trump was elected, Hussein warned that the Republican’s “deeply unsettling and disturbing” point of view “will be dangerous from an international point of view.”

Hussein expressed strong criticism of the US leader in October after listening to Trump’s speech at the United Nations. Trump’s rhetoric at the General assembly, he said, was “one part chauvinistic nationalism, one part balance-of-power swordplay and a crumbling adherence to law.”

“The combination of all of this, in the early part of the 20th century, led to the annihilation of millions of people,” Hussein warned, recalling the “calamity of two world wars and the Holocaust.”

In his letter to his colleagues, Hussein painted a “gloomy assessment of the state of human rights one year after US President Donald Trump came to power,” FP noted. The UN human rights commissioner said America’s new foreign policy disregarded human rights and “reintroduced torture as a tool to extract information.”

The FP report also noted, citing diplomatic sources, that UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres had allegedly “urged Zeid to tone down his critics of Trump, fearing that it could risk losing US support for the United Nations.”

Trump has indeed threatened to cut aid to UN member states who vote against the US at Thursday’s rare emergency UN General Assembly session. “They take hundreds of millions of dollars and even billions of dollars, and then they vote against us. Well, we’re watching those votes. Let them vote against us. We’ll save a lot. We don’t care,” Trump told reporters at the White House on Wednesday.

Hussein said he would focus his final months in office on promoting the Universal Declaration of Human Rights through “mobilization and defiance, pushing back the many trends across the world that seem to negate and deny the value of human rights.”

“There are many months ahead of us: months of struggle, perhaps, and even grief – because although the past year has been arduous for us, it has been appalling for many of the people we serve,” he wrote.

If you’ve been following video game news at all this year, you’re probably tired of hearing stories about how the Switch is the hottest selling console since the Sliced Bread 64. With Nintendo announcing this morning that its console has sold 10 million units in under nine months—before its first holiday season is even complete, to boot—we thought we’d skip the wordy analysis and just give you some relevant numbers that put the Switch’s current sales in context. As far as recent consoles go, the Switch’s sales so far put it in some pretty rarified company.

(Note that for most of these comparisons with other consoles, the time period includes an entire holiday season following a mid-November launch).
