It first revealed the "results about you" feature at I/O 2022 in May, describing it as a way to "help you easily control whether your personally-identifiable information can be found in Search results." 

If you see a result with your phone number, home address or email, you can click on the three-dot menu at the top right. That opens the usual "About this result" panel, but it now contains a new "Remove result" option at the bottom of the screen. A dialog states that if the result contains one of those three things, "we can review your request more quickly."

You can then monitor the request in a new menu item in the Google app called "Results about you," available by tapping your user profile at the top right. You can then monitor the progress of requests via filters "All requests," "In progress" and "Approved." 

The same page also lets you make a new request with a "Why would you like to remove this result" step. Options there include "It shows my personal contact info," "It shows my contact into with an intent to harm me," "It shows other personal info," "It contains illegal info" and "It’s outdated." Previously, though, Google has said that not all requests may be granted:

It’s important to note that when we receive removal requests, we will evaluate all content on the web page to ensure that we’re not limiting the availability of other information that is broadly useful, for instance in news articles. And of course, removing contact information from Google Search doesn’t remove it from the web, which is why you may wish to contact the hosting site directly, if you’re comfortable doing so.

The new feature has only rolled out to a limited number of users in the US and Europe, 9to5Google notes (I've yet to see it in France and I'm in the Google app beta). In the meantime, you can remove other personally identifiable information or doxxing content from Google Search via a removal request — there's more information about that available here.

  • A new study by a site that tracks online misinformation found that 1 in 5 videos on TikTok contain misinformation.
  • The study found that TikTok often yields more partisan search results than Google.

TikTok is no longer just a place for viral dances and food hacks. Gen Z users have begun replacing Google with TikTok as their primary search engine, The New York Times recently reported.

That might be a serious predicament.

A new study by NewsGuard, a site that monitors misinformation across the internet, found that one in five search results on TikTok contains misinformation. The study analyzed the top 20 search results across 27 different news topics ranging from "2022 election" to "mRNA vaccine." 

NewsGuard's study found that TikTok also prompted users with biased search terms. For example, if a user searched for "covid vaccine." TikTok would offer suggestions for more biased search terms such as "covid vaccine truths" or "covid vaccine hiv." More than half of the search results that popped up about the 2022 midterm elections contained "hyper-partisan left-leaning rhetoric," the study noted. 

The rampant misinformation on TikTok is particularly significant given the number of home remedy videos circulating on the platform. The ongoing baby formula shortage has led to a nebula of videos promoting DIY baby formula that pediatricians have labeled as "dangerous." 

After the Supreme Court's decision to overturn Roe vs. Wade, herbal remedies for abortion began trending on TikTok. Videos that suggested everything from bitter garnish parsley to mugwort, a flowering plant, were toted as remedies for abortion. Insider reported that a TikTok video that suggests that mugwort can induce a miscarriage had over 1 million views on TikTok. The National Center for Complementary and Integrative Health noted that "very little research has been done on Mugwort in people." 

Meghna T., a senior from suburban Michigan, said that if she's searching for anything health or education related she still uses Google. For "everything else" though she turns to TikTok.

Atmospheric oxygen both enables complex life and is a hallmark of it. Aerobic respiration is so energetically efficient that it’s thought to have been needed for multicellularity. There is hardly any oxygen in the atmosphere surrounding Mars, raising questions about the prospects for complex life there.

But it’s possible some oxygen is dissolved in any watery brines that could exist at or just below the Red Planet’s surface. Geologists at CalTech and Harvard have analyzed exactly how much oxygen these brines could hold and found that it might be just enough.

A few conditions made them think there was even a chance. First, the Martian atmosphere has a tiny bit of oxygen, which is very different from it having none. (“There’s a big difference between mostly dead and all dead.”) Second, the chemistry of Martian meteorites and rocks indicates that oxygen played a role in the formation of the Martian crust. Third: the brines on or just beneath the Martian surface have a much lower freezing point than pure water because of the magnesium and calcium perchlorate salts they contain. They can supercool down to 140 to 150 Kelvin while staying liquid, and cooler liquids can dissolve more gas.

Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev has said Russia will not hide behind protectionist barriers as the world becomes more turbulent and competitive. The country will fight for a dominant place in the global economic system, he added.

Medvedev outlined Russia’s position concerning current international and political relations in an extensive article published in Economic Issues magazine.

Every time our country actively positions itself in the international arena, it encounters harsh attempts to hinder these steps. We cannot ignore any tendencies of this kind and we will actively fight for a decent place in the global political and economic systems.

The head of the Russian government also stated that the acute politicization of international economic relations had resulted from a period of general turbulence caused by a wave of technological and social changes. He said that trade wars and politically motivated sanctions had already become a reality that has to be reckoned with.

However, Medvedev emphasized that Russia would not isolate itself from the global economy in a bid to avoid turbulence.

Russia will not create barriers for international economic relations. We will not close ourselves from the international markets or ignore it. [We will broaden] Russia’s participation in international trade, building our own chains of added value, and participation in economic unions and agreements.

The Russian PM said that the next six years would determine the limits of possibility for Russia and the country’s future role in the global economic and political systems. He also outlined two major principles that, in his view, would help the nation to assume a decent position: social stability and a high level of trust between the state and its citizens, as well as high mobility in society in general – the ability to adapt to new conditions and address new challenges.

While a wave of jubilant celebrations has swept across France following Les Bleus’ FIFA World Cup victory, sporadic clashes between police and over-excited fans erupted in several cities amid the nationwide football fest.

As the nation cheered the French 4-2 triumph over Croatia, some hardcore fans could not contain their excitement, somewhat spoiling the historic evening with violence. While most Parisians took to the Champs Elysees, a few rowdy fans started thrashing the side streets of Paris.

Parisian law enforcement officers had to deploy tear gas and water cannons to stop unruly groups from vandalizing the streets of the capital, damaging shops and setting trash cans on fire.

Several graceless incidents also took place in Lyon, where fans targeted the police by throwing empty cans at them. Centering around the Bellecour area, where a fan zone had been set up to welcome the public, the restless crowd did not shy away from expressing their emotions with violence. The police fired back using tear gas. Firefighters also had to intervene to extinguish fires set to trash cans.

The party mood was also ruined in Marseille, where firecrackers, smoke flares, and projectiles were thrown at police lines. Law enforcement had to intervene using tear gas to suppress the crowd, which also smashed car windows and set trash cans on fire. At least 10 arrests were made, according to reports.

Similar disturbances were witnessed in Rouen where two journalists were injured during violent outbursts from the crowd. Police had to move in to quell the violence.

Naked supporters in Bordeaux were seen celebrating the French victory, as excited fans invaded one of the city’s fountains. The feast was so grand, that fans even set a vehicle on fire in Gambetta Square.

Besides sporadic clashes, however, the rest of the country celebrated the World Championship in style, with tricolor-waving supporters flooding the streets, jumping and screaming for joy over the French second World Cup.
