Giovanni had appeared on the ITV show to take part in its dance-a-long segment along with Strictly judge Craig Revel-Horwood.

But before they could show off their skills, Alison asked if Giovanni was still in contact with Ranvir.

“100 percent,” the Strictly pro replied: “I think Ranvir delivered a very, very good performance every week,

“And I’m sure Craig loved all of them – and yeah, we’re still in touch.”

WandaVision theories: Voice on the radio contains major Ant-Man connection https://briefnews.eu/wandavision-theories-voice-on-the-radio-contains-major-ant-man-connection/ https://briefnews.eu/wandavision-theories-voice-on-the-radio-contains-major-ant-man-connection/#respond Wed, 20 Jan 2021 02:13:34 +0000 https://briefnews.eu/wandavision-theories-voice-on-the-radio-contains-major-ant-man-connection/

Wanda Maximoff (played by Elizabeth Olsen) and Vision (Paul Bettany) are still stuck in an eerie alternate reality, but someone seems to be investigating from the outside. Eagle-eyed Marvel aficionados may have deciphered who’s trying to contact the supernatural superhero in the second episode of WandaVision on Disney Plus.

Some observant comic book enthusiasts seem to have exposed Randall Park’s first appearance as Agent Jimmy Woo in the second episode of WandaVision.

While the Fresh off the Boat star is confirmed to be joining the series in a more physical role, Agent Woo appears to be trying to contact Wanda via an ominous radio signal.

Episode two of the series leaps forward in time to the 1960s, and kicks off when Wanda and Agnes (Kathryn Hahn) attend a meeting for the women of the neighbourhood, led by the uptight Dottie (Emma Caulfield Ford).

Wanda’s illusions grind to a halt when a mysterious voice asks ‘Who’s doing this to you, Wanda?’ from a nearby wireless.

Marvel fans are convinced that’s the voice of Jimmy Woo, now working for the intelligence organisation known as S.W.O.R.D.

One perceptive viewer summed up the theory on a recent Reddit thread, following the premiere of WandaVision’s first two episodes last Friday.

They said: “That voice over the airwaves was definitely Jimmy Woo from Ant Man and the Wasp (Randall Park).”

Woo made his first appearance in the Ant-Man sequel, where he was established as a former S.H.I.E.L.D. agent whom the FBI recruited to be Scott Lang’s (Paul Rudd) parole officer.

As the mystery unravels over the next four episodes, Agent Woo is likely to make further appearances as more of S.W.O.R.D.’s investigation into Wanda’s hallucinations is revealed.

Moreover, the sprawling Marvel Cinematic Universe is notorious for wrapping up its films with post-credit stingers to tease the Avengers’ upcoming battles.

Having already built a rapport with Scott Lang/Ant-Man, his role in WandaVision could neatly set up the tiny hero’s next adventures with his partner Hope Van Dyne/The Wasp (Evangeline Lilly).

Randall Park is speculated to make another appearance in the upcoming sequel Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, which will also set up the next Avengers-level threat, Jonathan Majors’ Kang the Conqueror.

As the first entry into the MCU since 2019, WandaVision could revitalise the blockbuster franchise even more with a surprise cameo from the two Ant-Man stars.

Meanwhile, while Woo is speculated to have been reinvented as an agent of S.W.O.R.D., which is connected to S.H.I.E.L.D., the same fan offered an alternative theory.

They continued: “Guessing that the FBI got involved in some missing persons’ cases and that intersected with Wanda’s infatuation with this reality where she can have Vision back.

“Dottie and all these people may have just been a genuine suburb that got taken hostage inadvertently.”

It’s still unclear if Wanda is in charge of her idyllic new reality, but S.W.O.R.D. definitely seems to be trying to breach her powerful illusions.

Fans got their first glimpse of the new organisation when Wanda noticed its logo brandished across an uncanny, red toy helicopter she found in the second black-and-white episode.

Another episode is set to air this Friday, so MCU fans will undoubtedly be keeping their eyes open for more references to the world beyond Wanda’s strange new reality.

WandaVision continues Fridays on Disney Plus.

This week on The Good Doctor, Shaun and Lea debate whether or not to cohabitate — and they’re not the only ones contemplating a new living arrangement.

For Lea, moving back in with Shaun isn’t a small decision. The relationship is different now, and to agree to live together as boyfriend and girlfriend requires more trust — and an even bigger commitment. After taking some time (but not that much time) to think it over, she realizes that she can’t see herself living with anybody else in a year. To delay the move is to delay the inevitable, so she picks up her belongings and heads back to the loft.

Back at the hospital, Park shows up late to work. He says he had a flat tire, but Morgan catches him in a lie. He eventually reveals to her that he was held up because he was finalizing his divorce. He also mentions that he’s been living in a motel for quite some time, having forfeited his place when he thought he was moving to Arizona. Once he comes clean, Morgan offers him her spare bedroom. He balks at being roommates, but turns up at her front door, with luggage in hand, later that night.

The Good Doctor Season 4, Episode 4In addition to big moves, Monday’s installment features a pretty big reveal: Dr. Andrews is Olivia’s uncle. The junior resident doesn’t want word of mouth to spread, but supervisor Shaun does a little detective work, unconvinced that her resume is what earned her an internship at St. Bonaventure. The connection is made as Olivia assists Dr. Murphy on a distressed pregnancy, which culminates in a delayed interval twin delivery. Along the way, Shaun learns that in order to be a good teacher, he has to adapt and adjust his methods to fit the individual needs of his interns. Olivia requires extra attention and positive reinforcement; Jordan just wants to know that her supervisor has her back at all times.

As for Jordan, she gets a bit of a backstory this week. We find out that she could’ve been happily married to an Army lieutenant, living off a base in Germany, rather than a surgeon-in-training. Asher and Enrique also open up, with the former revealing he’s estranged from all but one family member — his sister — following his decision to depart the Hasidic community, and the latter revealing a strained relationship with his realtor dad, having pursued a career in medicine rather than real estate.

Throughout the series they reside in the small fishing village of Kattegat, which eventually becomes the foundation for the vast Viking kingdom.

Unfortunately, many locations of the series are more fictional than they may appear.

For starters, most of the series is actually filmed in Ireland, so the on-screen representations of majestic Scandinavian fjords and coastlines don’t actually line up with reality.

Plus, several posts from fans on IMDb have illuminated some glaring errors with the geography of the series.

AHS: 1984 Recap: Death Becomes Her (Plus, a Surprise Asylum Connection!) https://briefnews.eu/ahs-1984-recap-death-becomes-her-plus-a-surprise-asylum-connection/ https://briefnews.eu/ahs-1984-recap-death-becomes-her-plus-a-surprise-asylum-connection/#respond Thu, 24 Oct 2019 04:54:47 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/ahs-1984-recap-death-becomes-her-plus-a-surprise-asylum-connection/ American Horror Story‘s 100th episode scared up a few celebratory surprises on Wednesday, including a fun connection to a previous season, the return of a fan-favorite performer and, of course, more twists than you could shake Trevor’s baby elephant trunk at.

The episode began with a flash-forward to 1985, where we joined Richard and Jingles’ killing spree already in progress. Jingles was beginning to question their murderous way of life, and in a perfect world, I feel like the two serial killers could have settled down Bert and Ernie-style in a nice quiet suburb. Sadly, Richard’s bloodlust — much like Ernie’s — was simply too strong, so he forced poor Jingles to keep cracking skulls. That is, until Jingles got the brilliant idea to expose Richard, resulting in him getting beaten to bloody pulp in the city streets by a mob of angry citizens.

AHS: 1984 RecapWe then jumped to 1989, at which point things got truly insane. Like, coked-up Dynasty levels of crazy. While Xavier and Montana were gleefully murdering anyone foolish enough to stumble into Camp Redwood, Margaret was building a real estate empire by turning infamous horror sites — including Briarcliff Manor! — into profitable tourist attractions. And Trevor, who apparently survived his brush with death, agreed to marry Margaret and reap the benefits of the good life. Besides, as Margaret pointed out, “They can’t make you testify against your spouse.”

That’s when the show’s 100th episode blessed us with a familiar face: Leslie Jordan (as Margaret’s assistant Courtney) arrived to inform his boss that Brooke lost her last appeal and was set to be executed. And speaking of familiar faces, who did Brooke reunite with in prison? Why, none other than Richard, who was horrified to hear what Brooke had done to Montana. “I gutted that bitch from the inside out,” she told him, “and now she’s in hell, licking Satan’s balls.” Richard’s response, naturally, was that that Montana “should be so lucky!”

Richard threw Brooke a lifeline of sorts, explaining that she could survive her trip to the electric chair if she agreed to accept Satan as her master. (A fairly simple exchange by American Horror Story‘s standards, if I’m being honest.) But Brooke refused his offer with a simple “f–k off,” leaving her to walk the green mile without an assist from the man downstairs.

Before receiving her lethal injection, Brooke took one last opportunity to confront Margaret — whom she correctly assumed was watching from behind the two-way mirror — and offered a friendly warning: “You are going to burn for wanting to watch me die.” (Yeah, for that and the million other atrocities she’s committed.) But Brooke’s plan to die with dignity was sidelined by Donna, who snuck into the facility and brought her back to life in the episode’s final moments.

Meanwhile, Margaret took advantage of the recent murders at Camp Redwood by returning to her old stomping — er, stabbing — grounds to throw an expensive food and wine festival for rich, thrill-seeking idiots. In addition to a performance from the one and only Billy Idol, guests were also promised “plenty of spooky and bloody surprises.” (Um… Can someone please explain to me how any of that was a draw?)

Now let’s go back to Mr. Jingles, who managed to do a full 180 with his life, starting anew in Alaska with a wife and son. He assured his new bride that he had moved on from the events of Camp Redwood, that he was free. Or so he thought. After coming home one night to find his wife murdered — possibly by Richard, who received a ‘get out of jail free’ card from Satan — Jingles snapped. He dropped the baby off with his wife’s sister, muttered something about how darkness will always follow him, then stumbled off into the night in full serial-killer garb. You know, just another casual interaction between in-laws.

Police in Sussex, UK, have arrested two individuals believed to be involved in bringing London’s Gatwick airport to a standstill for over 24 hours. Police said that the two alleged perpetrators were arrested as part of an investigation into the criminal use of drones just after 10 pm on Friday, without elaborating on their role in the incident or the charges they’re facing. It’s unclear if police are seeking any more suspects. “Every line of enquiry will remain open to us until we are confident that we have mitigated further threats to the safety of passengers,” police said in a statement. The UK’s second busiest air hub first reported sightings of drones at around 9.00 pm on Wednesday, which forced it to ground all outbound flights and divert incoming planes to other airports. The flights have resumed as of Friday afternoon.

Danielle Rose Russell on Legacies' Mysterious Monsters: What's Their Connection to an 'Overall Big Bad'? https://briefnews.eu/danielle-rose-russell-on-legacies-mysterious-monsters-whats-their-connection-to-an-overall-big-bad/ https://briefnews.eu/danielle-rose-russell-on-legacies-mysterious-monsters-whats-their-connection-to-an-overall-big-bad/#respond Thu, 29 Nov 2018 15:08:16 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/danielle-rose-russell-on-legacies-mysterious-monsters-whats-their-connection-to-an-overall-big-bad/ The Salvatore School has already faced a dragon, a gargoyle and a spider monster in Legacies‘ first four weeks on the air, but star Danielle Rose Russell promises that the wildest creatures are still to come. “You haven’t met my favorite one yet,” Russell tells TVLine, adding that it will finally rear its (presumably) ugly head in Episode 7.

Russell also assures us that there’s a method to the show’s mythological madness, which will soon reveal itself. “When we shot Episode 2, I was like, ‘Dragons? Really?‘ But it all starts to make sense,” she says. “Some things will be explained in Episode 5. You’ll find out why these monsters exist in this world and why they’re here. I’m excited for that explanation, because that’s when our show really begins. The overall Big Bad is coming.”

She also can’t lavish enough praise on the show’s “amazing” monster and special effects team, which manages to craft new creatures for the show on an incredibly tight schedule. “We have eight days to do each episode and we always have a new monster,” Russell says. “They do incredible work. And there are so many more I wish I could talk about. They’ve really exceeded my expectations.”

Legacies SpoilersIn the immediate future, tonight’s episode (The CW, 9/8c) leads to more growth for the show’s core non-couple. “For all the people who do ship Hope and Landon, you’ll see them come to terms with certain things in this next episode,” Russell says. “My stuff with Hope and Landon has been my favorite, because I love playing romantic Hope and angry Hope. He’s someone who somehow means so much and so little to her all at once.”

Do you have a favorite monster of the week from Legacies? (For the record, we will allow both Grodd and Ghostface.) And what are your thoughts on the show thus far? Whatever’s on your mind, drop it in a comment below.

The Campbell connection in Edmonton — Rick Campbell looks for 2nd Grey Cup win https://briefnews.eu/the-campbell-connection-in-edmonton-rick-campbell-looks-for-2nd-grey-cup-win/ https://briefnews.eu/the-campbell-connection-in-edmonton-rick-campbell-looks-for-2nd-grey-cup-win/#respond Sat, 24 Nov 2018 12:04:47 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/the-campbell-connection-in-edmonton-rick-campbell-looks-for-2nd-grey-cup-win/ EDMONTON — Ottawa Redblacks head coach Rick Campbell was just seven years old when he first got a taste of what it was like to win a Grey Cup championship.

His father, Hugh Campbell, led the Edmonton Eskimos to the championship in 1978. That win was the first of five consecutive Grey Cup wins by the Hugh Campbell-coached Eskimos.

On Sunday afternoon at Commonwealth Stadium, Rick will try and do something his father was never able to do despite all those wins — capture the title in the Alberta capital inside the stadium Hugh won so many regular season and playoff battles.

"This is a special place to me and a big part of my growing up," Rick said. "It is a big deal to me. I think I'm just trying to keep my emotions in check so I can do my best job for the team."

Rick Campbell had been around the CFL in various coaching roles in Edmonton, Winnipeg and Calgary before landing a head coaching position in Ottawa the year they returned to the league. In five seasons as the Ottawa Redblacks coach, Campbell has led the team to three Grey Cup games. They won it all against the Stampeders in 2016.

But unlike the previous two championship games Rick coached, this time his father is going to be at the stadium for the game.

Hugh Campbell led Edmonton to 5 straight Grey Cup wins:

"They haven't come to the previous two games I was the head coach in the Grey Cup," Rick said. "They kind of gave me my space. So it's going to be pretty cool. I think my sisters are coming too."

Despite all of the connections to the city he grew up in and trips down memory lane, Rick is trying to stay as grounded and focused as he possibly can before entering the biggest game of the season.

"We haven't gone over to the stadium yet because we're practicing at a different facility. I think it's going to be a bigger thing for me when I reflect back on it afterward. I think I'm in work mode, where I'm trying to keep my head down and go about my business."

Campbell connection in Edmonton

Rick first started playing football at Harry Ainlay High School in Edmonton. He recalls winning a provincial title with the Titans. Rick played nearly every position on the field.

He was born into a championship football family. His father Hugh won his first Grey Cup championship as a receiver with the Saskatchewan Roughriders in 1966. Then Hugh coached the Eskimos to all those Grey Cup wins.

Rick says growing up in Edmonton during the 1980s was an incredible thing, mostly because the pro teams were winning a bunch of championships.

"I just remember the Eskimos and the Oilers got really good. People were shocked when they didn't win the whole thing," Rick said.

Ottawa Redblacks head coach Rick Campbell has a long history in Edmonton. (Jason Franson/The Canadian Press)

"This town is pretty special when you think about having two pro sports teams be that good for that long. I just remember the expectations were through the roof."

It would be a tall task to follow in the footsteps of a father who coached a team to five titles in a row, and Rick is the first to admit that early on in his career it was a nice last name to have when applying for jobs.

"I'm sure it helped initially," Rick said. "The thing about football though is you can't fake it. No matter who you are as a player or coach, if you're not a contributor it doesn't matter who you are."

Some have drawn uncanny parallels between the two — Hugh and Rick described as being cool, calm and collected under pressure on the sidelines. But for as similar as they are, Rick is trying his best to do things his way.

"I even have a similar voice to my dad, but I'm just trying to be myself. I don't try to emulate him. I just have to be myself. I guess I could come off as laid back like him but definitely not in the inside."

Making his mark in Ottawa

Rick Campbell was always a western Canadian kind of guy. He grew up in Edmonton, coached in the West throughout much of his career — he admits to knowing very little about Ottawa before taking the coaching position there five years ago.

"I went to Ottawa not knowing much about it," Rick said. "I just knew when I saw the ownership group going through all the hurdles and making sure they got it right, I wanted to be a part of it."

Rick lives a walk away from TD Place Stadium. He's a big part of the community now. More than anything, Rick Campbell is trying to create somewhat of a football dynasty in Ottawa. Just like his father Hugh did in Edmonton. He'll attempt to take a step closer to that on Sunday in the city where it all started with his dad watching from the stands.

"I'm a lucky guy and I don't take any of this for granted," Rick said.

The Russian connection? Banned Facebook pages were featured on 2016 ‘blacklist’ https://briefnews.eu/the-russian-connection-banned-facebook-pages-were-featured-on-2016-blacklist/ https://briefnews.eu/the-russian-connection-banned-facebook-pages-were-featured-on-2016-blacklist/#respond Mon, 15 Oct 2018 15:03:34 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/the-russian-connection-banned-facebook-pages-were-featured-on-2016-blacklist/

A host of alternative news pages banned by Facebook last week were first featured on the PropOrNot blacklist in 2016 – a list of “Russian propaganda” sites that was compiled with little evidence and called “McCarthyite.”

Facebook banned 800 alternative media pages last week, ranging from left-leaning organizations like The Anti-Media to flag-waving opinion sites like Right Wing News and Nation in Distress. Others include those belonging to police brutality watchdog groups Filming Cops and Policing the Police. Twitter followed suit and banned many accounts associated with the same groups.

The social media giant said the pages were banned for “coordinated inauthentic behavior,” and, disturbingly, the company said in a blog post that it is working hard to root out pages, groups, and accounts “created to stir up political debate,” ahead of next month’s midterm elections in the US.

However, in deciding which pages to ban, it seems that Facebook drew some inspiration from a ‘blacklist’ released after the US presidential election in 2016, when Russian hysteria was beginning to take off.

The ‘PropOrNot’ list was published anonymously in November 2016, and claimed to offer a comprehensive rundown of “Sites That Reliably Echo Russian Propaganda.” PropOrNot’s anonymous team did not explain its methods, or what criteria made a site ‘Russian propaganda’, but the Washington Post still ran a glowing feature on the site, which the paper said opposed “Russia’s increasingly sophisticated propaganda machinery.”

PropOrNot’s list was described by journalist Glenn Greenwald as a “McCarthyite blacklist” compiled by “anonymous cowards.” Harper’s editor Andrew Cockburn called the Washington Post’s article on it “a sorry piece of trash,” while Rolling Stone’s Matt Taibbi called it “shameful and disgusting.”

READ MORE: Facebook vanishes Venezuela-based left-leaning news network again

All three journalists slammed the Washington Post for not properly investigating PropOrNot’s “shady” fact-checking process, and concluded that all the sites on the list really had in common was vague opposition to centrist, Hillary Clinton-style foreign policy.

Many of the pages banned last Thursday were named on PropOrNot’s list. While Facebook has not said whether it drew inspiration from PropOrNot, its sweeping ban was cheered by Russophobic list-lovers, who thanked Facebook and Twitter “for refusing to let Putin’s brutally corrupt mafia-fascist dictatorship use their platforms.”

While PropOrNot has been widely discredited, Facebook has teamed up with another third-party fact-checker of dubious motive. The Digital Forensics Lab is an offshoot of NATO-funded think tank The Atlantic Council, and has pledged to be Facebook’s “eyes and ears” in the fight against disinformation (read: alternative viewpoints).

In announcing the partnership in May, the DFL said it would strive to “expose and explain falsehood online,” and crack down on ‘Russian bots’ manipulating discussion. In reality, the crackdown has focused on left-leaning and alternative news sites, and has been called part of “a wider war on dissident narratives in online media” by journalist Max Blumenthal.

Carolina connection key trigger in Flames' reset https://briefnews.eu/carolina-connection-key-trigger-in-flames-reset/ https://briefnews.eu/carolina-connection-key-trigger-in-flames-reset/#respond Fri, 28 Sep 2018 14:10:17 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/carolina-connection-key-trigger-in-flames-reset/

The 2017-18 season went south for the Flames, so the Flames looked south for the solution.

The answer, apparently, was in Carolina.

After finishing sixth in the Pacific Division and out of the playoffs, Glen Gulutzan was out as head coach after two seasons, replaced by former Hurricanes coach Bill Peters.

The search didn't stop there, as the Flames and Hurricanes then orchestrated the biggest trade of the off-season: Dougie Hamilton, Michael Ferland and prospect Adam Fox to Carolina for Noah Hanifin and Elias Lindholm.

It's not so much a rebuild as it is a reset.

With Johnny Gaudreau (24G-60A-84 Pts) knocking on the door of the NHL's top tier, Sean Monahan (31-33-64) not far behind and a defence anchored by Mark Giordano (13-25-38), the Flames have the nucleus of a contender.

Adding Lindholm (16-28-44) and free-agent James Neal (25-19-44) to the mix gives the Flames options for a top line that can compete with most in the league.

As good as Hamilton is, it wasn't working in Calgary. In Hanifin, the fifth overall pick of the 2015 draft, the Flames get a defenceman with tremendous upside. That was clearly the thinking in quickly signing him to a six-year deal with an annual average value of $ 4.95 million US. If Hanifin develops the way the Flames hope, he will be a bargain at that price.

In net, Mike Smith (.916 SV%., 2.65 GAA) has proven the reliable goaltender the Flames wanted when they acquired the 36-year-old from Arizona in 2017.

Names and numbers:

2017-2018 record: 37-35-10 (84 points), 5th in Pacific Division, missed playoffs

New faces: Coach Bill Peters, F James Neal, F Elias Lindholm, F Derek Ryan, D Noah Hanifin,

Key forwards: James Neal, Johnny Gaudreau, Sean Monahan, Elias Lindholm, Matthew Tkachuk

Key defencemen: Mark Giordano, Noah Hanifin, T.J. Brodie, Travis Hamonic

No. 1 goaltender: Mike Smith
