Language is a tool, and just like any tool, it has equal capacity to inflict both good and bad on the world. Language is a beautiful, human thing; the connective tissue that transfers culture, knowledge and critical information across borders and generations. It’s also a means of segregation and detachment, erecting invisible walls among neighbors and strangers alike, impeding coexistence on a global scale.

It’s that second function — the divisive one — that inspired developer Rami Ismail and voice actor Sarah Elmaleh to produce a conference for game creators that removes language as a barrier to entry. Gamedev.world is billed as the first truly global online games conference, with plans to host 48 hours of expert panels and live Q&A sessions on Twitch, YouTube and Mixer, translated in real-time into English, Japanese, Spanish, Portuguese, Russian, Arabic, Simplified Chinese and French. It’s all scheduled to take place June 21st to 23rd.

“If games can be played by anyone, and made by anyone, we want to make sure everyone feels like they truly belong here,” Ismail told Engadget. “Speaking to someone in a language they understand seems like a good start.”

Gamedev.world speakers will hail from across the globe and they’ll give talks in their native tongues, while the conference itself will be accessible for anyone with an internet connection and a viewing device, potentially opening up the industry to underserved communities. The actual process of game development is largely homogeneous no matter where the programming actually takes place, but as Ismail explained it, context matters.

For example, he said English-speaking developers inherently understand the language of games. Game code uses words like “if,” “then,” “while” and “for” — common for anyone who knows English.

“If you don’t, these are abstract ideas and you don’t know what you’re typing besides what it does,” Ismail said. “If you use the Latin alphabet, you can modify that with a ton of work, but if you use, say, Cyrillic or Arabic, that’s often not an option because our existing technology wasn’t built on it.”

It doesn’t all come down to language, though. Developers outside of the major game-making hubs — the United States, Europe, Japan, Canada — often face obstacles that mainstream developers never have to consider.

Engare

Mahdi Bahrami

“If you’re an Iranian game developer, you can’t use American payment processing services because of the sanctions — so despite your incredible game, you can’t sell it using PayPal or on any of the larger stores,” Ismail said. “If you’re African or South American, importing a dev kit is cost-prohibitive because the major companies often don’t have headquarters there. In some places, the power might cut out for weeks at an end. In other places, getting access to the games press is practically impossible due to language difficulties, or access to the games events is impossible due to visas or language.”

It’s not impossible to create games in these regions, but it can be hard. Independent Iranian developer Mahdi Bahrami infused his 2017 geometric puzzle game, Engare, with Persian text and Islamic art, and it’s won a handful of awards. South African studio Nyamakop launched Semblance on the Switch last year. It was the first South African game (and essentially the first African game, period) to ever hit a Nintendo console.

“The entry curve into being an indie game developer in South Africa is like a cliff face,” Nyamakop co-founder Ben Myres told Engadget at E3 2018. He said there were no resources, events or even contacts for developers in the region he called home, so Myres and his partner were forced to travel for months at a time. They added the cost of flights, food and lodging to their meager indie budget, not to mention all the lost development hours they undoubtedly racked up.

“You can make a game everywhere, but that’s about it,” Ismail said. “We want to change that last point: No matter where you are, your economical situation, your legal status, or what language you speak, we want there to be a games conference you can go to, learn from, and contribute to.”

The goal of Gamedev.world is to help diversify, not divide, the video game industry. It’s not a new mission for Ismail, who is one half of indie studio Vlambeer, and a creator of Ridiculous Fishing, Super Crate Box and Nuclear Throne. The idea for a language-agnostic, global games conference actually took off in 2015 with the first “gamedev.world” showcase at the Games For Change festival in New York City. Ismail and Sarah Elmaleh, best known as the voice of Katie in Gone Home, organized that initial showing, too.

It goes even farther back than that, for Ismail. He said he grew up between two cultures, Dutch and Egyptian, and he remembered falling in love with video games as a kid, regularly playing as an English-speaking man shooting aliens, monsters or distinctly Arab-looking enemies.

“Why was the Arabic in all the games set in the Arab world wrong?”

“It honestly didn’t bother me too much back then — I was a kid that got to play games — but when I started making games it started to bother me,” Ismail said. “Where were these other games? Wouldn’t it make sense that there’d be games that were the other way around? And why was the Arabic in all the games set in the Arab world wrong?”

These questions pestered Ismail more and more as he found success as an indie developer. He quickly realized the enormous influence that games could have over a culture, since they could connect with anyone, anywhere, through the magic of play. Playful activities, like kicking a ball back and forth with someone, didn’t require words, Ismail said. The video game complex could have been an inclusive field where people from different backgrounds communicated through the basics of play, but as it turned out, industry standards excluded a lot of developers and perpetuated stereotypes in the process.

“The best way to fix that seems to be to fix whatever structural and accidental boundaries might be in the way of more diverse creators,” Ismail said. “If game development is possible everywhere, what is stopping some territories and cultures from adding their voice to a language-less medium?”

“[It’s] a production effort the size of a large multinational broadcast, not a small team of game developers.”

Gamedev.world is an attempt to even out the playing field for aspiring developers anywhere on Earth. It’s a complicated undertaking rife with unforeseen issues and unconscious biases, so Ismail and Elmaleh have tapped a handful of collaborators to serve as an advisory board for the show. These include Brazilian developer and Pro Indie Dev founder Gabriel Dal Santo, The Molasses Flood founder Gwen Fey from the US, and Tunisian Global Game Jam board member Houssem Ben Amor.

“The scale of Gamedev.world is far larger than the Gamedev.world team could have predicted,” Ismail said. “Creating dependable, multi-language closed captioning, live, is a production effort the size of a large multinational broadcast, not a small team of game developers.”

Ismail and Elmaleh are moving ahead with Gamedev.world anyway. It’ll be hard — but so is game development, especially for folks outside of the major industry hubs.

“As I traveled the entire globe for the past decade, I’ve met game developers in the most incredible circumstances, in impossible contexts,” Ismail said. “Knowing how much effort game development takes in a country as cozy, organized, consistent, and safe as the Netherlands has given me so much respect for developers in places that might not have those privileges — these developers love games with a passion, or they’d find something easier and more welcoming to do.”

Tempers flare as shirtless Tyson Fury & Deontay Wilder clash at fiery LA press conference (PHOTOS) https://briefnews.eu/tempers-flare-as-shirtless-tyson-fury-deontay-wilder-clash-at-fiery-la-press-conference-photos/ https://briefnews.eu/tempers-flare-as-shirtless-tyson-fury-deontay-wilder-clash-at-fiery-la-press-conference-photos/#respond Wed, 28 Nov 2018 23:08:08 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/tempers-flare-as-shirtless-tyson-fury-deontay-wilder-clash-at-fiery-la-press-conference-photos/

What started out as a run-of-the-mill occasion descended into an ugly shouting match as scuffles broke out on stage at the pre-fight press conference between Deontay Wilder and Tyson Fury in Los Angeles.

Tempers erupted when the pair confronted each other during an intense face-off, with Wilder shouting in the Brit’s face, telling him he was going to knock him out while Fury mockingly bobbed and weaved his head in response.

And when members of Wilder and Fury’s respective teams moved in to prevent tempers from boiling over, scuffles broke out among the teams and Fury took off his jacket and shirt as the two protagonists were separated to avoid an ugly clash.

Wednesday’s press conference took place on the three-year anniversary of Fury’s world title-winning performance over Wladimir Klitschko, and the timing wasn’t lost on the Brit.

“It’s my anniversary today,” he told the assembled press. “It’s three years since I went to Germany and kicked Wladimir Klitschko’s arse all over Dusseldorf, and I’ll do the same to Deontay on Saturday.

“I’m here to do a job and enjoy myself, and I hope the boxing fans around the world are going to enjoy this fight as much as I will.”

Wilder started out calm and composed in his opening statement as he revealed his excitement ahead of the contest.

“I can’t wait,” he enthused. “It’s been my saying this whole time: I cannot wait. Time is clicking, it’s boiling down. Can you feel the energy?

“This is a moment I’ve been waiting for my entire career. This is the time, it’s my time. Fury had his time. When he beat Klitschko that was his time, that was his window. Now it’s my time.”

But things started to heat up when the press conference went to the Q&A segment, which quickly descended into a back-and-forth shouting match between the pair.

Before the chaos ensued, Fury said that he was returning to the sport not just as the heavyweight division’s lineal champion, but as a champion for people around the world who deal with mental illness.

The Brit suffered with mental health issues during his time away from the sport. But he explained that now he is back on the world stage, he wants to be an inspiration to those who deal with similar issues every day.

“I stand for more than a championship. I stand here as an ambassador for mental health,” he said.

“I’m the people’s champion. I’ve got millions of people around the world who look up to me and I’m on a mission to inspire these people.”

Then Fury turned up the mental warfare and clearly touched a nerve when he questioned Wilder’s tough-guy image.

“When I look at him I don’t see a bad man, I see a pretender,” said Fury.

“This ain’t an act. I am what I am. A bald-headed, big-bearded hulk of a man. And I didn’t practice to talk like this. I just do it.”

READ MORE: Betting bonanza: Boxer Billy Joe Saunders makes £70K wager on Tyson Fury to beat Deontay Wilder

It left Wilder all fired up, as the American turned his sights on Fury as he looked to questioned the Brit’s boxing credentials.

“I was at the Olympics. I medalled. I’ve never seen him in the Olympics, I’ve never seen him medal,” he stated.

“I’ve knocked out every fighter I’ve faced. Why hasn’t he? Why is his ratio so low?

“He didn’t beat Klitschko, Klitschko beat himself. If Klitschko had shown up and thrown more punches he’d have won. Everybody knows that.”

And with the fight just a matter of days away, the defending WBC champion issued a warning to the returning Fury, saying that he’s been ready for their matchup for weeks, and that the smiling adversary he had spent time with during the lead-up to the event was now replaced by a world champion determined to defend his crown.

“So much emotion is running through my body right now. I was ready two weeks ago,” he declared.

“I can’t wait to put these hands on you. When I get in the ring, it’ll be no more Mr. Nice Guy.”

For CFL's final four, conference finals a chance to make up for lost time https://briefnews.eu/for-cfls-final-four-conference-finals-a-chance-to-make-up-for-lost-time/ https://briefnews.eu/for-cfls-final-four-conference-finals-a-chance-to-make-up-for-lost-time/#respond Sat, 17 Nov 2018 14:38:28 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/for-cfls-final-four-conference-finals-a-chance-to-make-up-for-lost-time/

CALGARY — The 2018 CFL season is down to four teams. And for two of those fanbases, a Grey Cup celebration has been a long time coming.

Winnipeg and Hamilton have the two longest Grey Cup droughts in the league — it's been 19 years since the Ticats last tasted football supremacy, while Winnipeg has forgotten what it even tastes like.

Not since 1990 have the Blue Bombers hoisted the trophy, but optimism in Winnipeg hasn't been this high for a long time.

Meanwhile, their respective opponents in the East and West Finals have been there, done that quite recently.

Ottawa and Calgary are no strangers to playing for the Grey Cup. The Redblacks shocked the Stamps two years ago in Toronto to claim the championship. Calgary has played in back-to-back Grey Cup games only to lose both in dramatic fashion. The Stampeders did win the Grey Cup in 2014, however.

QB battle key in East

This final showdown of the season between Hamilton and Ottawa has all sorts of drama surrounding it. The two teams have met three times this year, with the Redblacks always victorious.

But clear the slate in the playoffs — it's a one-game showdown in the nation's capital.

Ottawa is hosting the East final for the third time in the last four years. Since returning to the league five years ago, the team has been nothing short of sensational. Should the Redblacks beat Hamilton on Sunday, it will be their third Grey Cup appearance.

It's hard not to mention what happened the last time these two teams met in the East Final in Ottawa during the 2015 season. With time ticking down and the Redblacks pinned deep in their own end, Henry Burris connected with Greg Ellingson for a 93-yard touchdown that sent Ottawa to the Grey Cup.

If Ottawa is going to make it back to the championship, quarterback Trevor Harris must repeat his stellar regular-season play. He was the backup quarterback when the team won in 2016 behind Henry Burris.

But it's Harris' team now and he has a massive opportunity on Sunday.

For as poised and confident as Ottawa seems going into the East final, Hamilton has all sorts of swagger right now after a beatdown of the B.C. Lions at home in the East semifinal by 40 points.

Quarterback Jeremiah Masoli threw for three first-half touchdowns and helped his team cruise to the victory. He threw the second most yards of all quarterbacks during the season and was given the division's most outstanding player nod.

This marks Hamilton's third appearance in the East final in the last six years — made even more remarkable considering the team was 0-8 to begin last season and have turned things around in a hurry with head coach June Jones at the helm.

The Ticats are looking to get back to the Grey Cup for the first time since 2014 when the team thought it had beaten Calgary, only to have a late Brandon Banks punt return touchdown called back on a penalty. They also lost the championship game in 2013 to the Saskatchewan Roughriders.

Pressure on Stamps

The Calgary Stampeders have been in this exact same situation so many times before. In fact, the Stamps have hosted a home playoff game and made the West final seven consecutive years.

They've been dominant.

But then there's the Grey Cup. The past two seasons have ending in bitter disappointment. An overtime loss to Ottawa two years ago and a late interception against Toronto last year ended Grey Cup dreams for the Stampeders.

Can this third time be the charm? The Stamps have to make it past Winnipeg first. There's no denying the capability of Bo Levi Mitchell. In a one-game showdown, there aren't many other quarterbacks in the league a coach would prefer to lead their team.

Calgary wasn't great down the stretch, losing three of its last four games to end the season. But in its final game of the season and needing a win to secure a berth in the West Final against BC, the Stampeders were brilliant. Perhaps the mini slide to end the season was the wake-up call Calgary needed going into the biggest game of the year this Sunday.

Meanwhile, Winnipeg is on a roll.

The Bombers have won six out of their last seven games, including a tough playoff win on the road in Regina last Sunday.

Andrew Harris ran wild and Matt Nichols avoided mistakes — a clean football game for a Winnipeg team playing its best football at exactly the right time.

This is the first time the two teams will in the playoffs since the 2001 Grey Cup in Montreal — Calgary won that game 27-19. This marks Winnipeg's first West Final appearance since 2002 when they played the Edmonton Eskimos. The Bombers have a playoff road record of 22-32 all time.

For the Bombers, this season is quickly becoming about snapping that nasty Grey Cup drought of 28 years. For the Stamps, this season is about salvaging a competitive window that's yet to yield the ultimate prize.

Italy hosts Macron-snubbing Libya peace conference as Eni and Total race for petroleum assets https://briefnews.eu/italy-hosts-macron-snubbing-libya-peace-conference-as-eni-and-total-race-for-petroleum-assets/ https://briefnews.eu/italy-hosts-macron-snubbing-libya-peace-conference-as-eni-and-total-race-for-petroleum-assets/#respond Mon, 12 Nov 2018 13:01:47 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/italy-hosts-macron-snubbing-libya-peace-conference-as-eni-and-total-race-for-petroleum-assets/ A two-day Libya conference is starting in Palermo, Italy – an event widely perceived as a counter to a similar gathering organized by France in May – as two European countries compete for the fractured nation’s oil and gas assets.

The meeting in Sicily is meant to bring together key stakeholders involved in the ongoing turbulence in Libya. The North African country, which once prided itself for high standards of living that were paid for by oil exports, remains in chaos seven years after a NATO-backed uprising ousted long-time leader Muammar Gaddafi. There are two rival governments in Libya and numerous smaller players with various tribal, ideological and political affiliations playing their own games.

Italian Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte denied that the meeting organized by Macron last May had placed the two European countries at odds over Libya. However, Italy traditionally considers its former colony to be within its sphere of influence. France, which briefly occupied the southwestern Fezzan area after World War II, sees this part of Libya as important for the French presence in Central Africa.

Oil games

The two nations are also competing for Libya’s energy reserves, with both Italian Eni and French Total buying additional assets in the country’s struggling oil and gas industry. It remains the holder of the largest proven oil reserves in Africa, and is a major supplier of “sweet” crude, which is cheaper and easier to refine into petrol products.

Libya’s oil sales are affected by regular protests, security problems and rivalry between factions, which result in port blockades, attacks on fields, and other problems. Control over oil revenues is a major point of competition between Tripoli and Tobruk, which has to conduct financial transactions through the UN-recognized Central Bank despite controlling physical fields and terminals.

Will the top general attend?

As the event started on Monday, questions remained as to whether it would be attended by Khalifa Haftar, a powerful general allied with the government based in the eastern city of Tobruk. He controls half of the country and is trying to take the capital Tripoli to achieve legitimacy for his rule.

The strongman, who enjoys the support of France, Egypt, the UAE and Saudi Arabia, among other nations, announced that he was cancelling the visit at the last minute, undermining the Italian conference. The general objected to the presence of Qatar, the backer of the Islamist faction of the UN-recognized government in Tripoli, which Haftar accuses of supporting radical jihadists against whom he is fighting.

However, Italian PM Conte hasn’t lost all hope and said he still expected Haftar to come.

Snowden to speak at Israeli conference – with ex-Mossad deputy chief ‘responding’ https://briefnews.eu/snowden-to-speak-at-israeli-conference-with-ex-mossad-deputy-chief-responding/ https://briefnews.eu/snowden-to-speak-at-israeli-conference-with-ex-mossad-deputy-chief-responding/#respond Wed, 10 Oct 2018 22:27:43 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/snowden-to-speak-at-israeli-conference-with-ex-mossad-deputy-chief-responding/ Edward Snowden is expected to speak via video link at a closed conference held in Israel. The event, which expects to hear Snowden touching upon US spying on Israel, will be joined by a former top Mossad official.

The NSA whistleblower is set to speak through a secure video system from Russia, at a conference organized by the local media consultancy company OH! Orenstein + Hoshen. He is expected to cover the issues “relating specifically to Israel” at the November 6 event, Israeli media report, speculating that this might involve the instances of the US snooping on Israeli officials.

“Snowden is a fascinating figure because his actions are so controversial. We have no intention of expressing support or an opinion on what he did. The audience will hear what he has to say, can ask tough questions and people can work out their own opinions on the matter,” the company said in a statement issued to the media. The participants, including Snowden, have been approved by the Israeli security officials including the military censor, the Israeli news service Arutz Sheva reported.

Snowden’s remarks are to be followed by a “response” from Ram Ben-Barak, the former deputy chief of the Israeli intelligence service Mossad. Ben-Barak headed the Keshet division, responsible for gathering intelligence data through electronic means, and held the position of the Intelligence Ministry and Strategic Affairs Ministry director general. Some media reports also suggest that the current Mossad leadership will also be present at the closed event.

Snowden, who worked as a private contractor for the NSA, leaked a trove of documents in 2013 that revealed an extensive surveillance program run by the US intelligence, which involved spying on numerous foreign countries – including US allies. He also notably revealed the NSA was collecting sensitive data on hundreds of millions of people, including the US citizens. Ever since getting stuck in Moscow after his passport got revoked, Snowden has been living in Russia, where he was eventually granted a residence permit.

Some of the documents obtained by Snowden revealed that the NSA and the British intelligence service GCHQ have spied on Israel. This provoked an angry reaction in Tel Aviv, as Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said at the time that such things are “unacceptable” and “must not be done” between close allies.

In 2016, another leak showed that the two agencies had been spying on Israeli air force’s operations for at least 18 years, while the British secret services have been spying on Israel’s diplomats, defense firms, and militarary.

Trump's greatest hits from the UN press conference https://briefnews.eu/trumps-greatest-hits-from-the-un-press-conference/ https://briefnews.eu/trumps-greatest-hits-from-the-un-press-conference/#respond Thu, 27 Sep 2018 00:24:44 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/trumps-greatest-hits-from-the-un-press-conference/

US President Donald Trump’s chat with the media after his appearance at the UN was a roller coaster of bizarre claims, boasts and jabs at the media. Even one of the Founding Fathers got involved. Here are the best takeaways.

UN audience was laughing ‘with’ Trump, not ‘at’ him

The press conference dipped into the realm of the surreal a few times, but this was perhaps the most eyebrow-raising moment. When asked about his Tuesday bragging bout at the UN General Assembly and some of the world leaders’ reaction, Trump has this to say.

“They weren’t laughing at me, they were laughing with me. It was fun.”

That was when he said that he had accomplished more in two years than any administration ever had. The giggles it provoked were a sign that “the United States is respected again,” according to Trump.

Democrats would vote against George Washington

As establishment journalists swiped at Trump again and again for an answer about Brett Kavanaugh’s nomination, he turned to the iconic figure of George Washington. As Trump put it, the Founding Father “may have had some accusations made” against him, as well, suggesting that modern-day Democrats would be his fans at all.

“George Washington would be voted against 100 percent by Schumer and the con artists.”

Twitter liberals were immediately there to confirm it.

Let’s ask women

CNN’s Jim Acosta did his best to turn the briefing into a women’s rights discussion, by asking why Trump wasn’t taking questions from female reporters (Acosta was the fourth man in a row Trump called up). “What does he mean by that?” Trump asked.

“Wouldn’t make any difference to me.”

What Acosta meant, of course, was to prod Trump about the nomination of Brett Kavanaugh and the sexual assault allegations against him. This was followed by questions on why Trump was willing to give the accused the benefit of the doubt instead of believing the accusers’ words without reservation. Trump said several times he would be listening to Kavanaugh accuser Christine Blasey Ford when she testifies, and even admitted that if he thought Kavanaugh was culpable, he could withdraw his nomination.

Women ‘were paid’ to accuse Trump of sexual misconduct

As a natural segue from the allegations against Kavanaugh, Trump was asked if his own experience with similar allegations was coloring his opinion. Trump answered at length about how he believes those allegations came to be.

“I was accused by four or five women who got paid a lot of money to make up stories about me.”

One of those, according to Trump, had her mortgage paid off to the tune of $ 52,000. Another, he said, was offered $ 750,000, but she “reported it instead of taking the money.” He didn’t say who he believed was throwing cash around to smear him. He did say why, though: all because he is “a very famous person, unfortunately.”

Trump would prefer to keep ‘nice man’ Rosenstein

The US media has been rife with speculation that Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein will be either shown the door by Trump or resign in the wake of a New York Times report that he suggested recording Trump in the White House to expose him for being unfit to run the country.

“We’ve had a good talk. He said he’d never said it, he said he doesn’t believe it, he said it with a lot of respect for me, and he was very nice and we’ll see,” Trump said.

“My preference would be to keep him and to let him finish up.”

Trump did say he would call Rosenstein to reschedule the meeting due to the other big story of the week: Thursday’s Senate Judiciary Committee hearing with Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh.

No rush on North Korea

Stepping away from the guerrilla warfare of American internal politics, Trump was asked about the timeline for the North Korean denuclearization. He said there was no rush, since the nuclear testing has stopped.

“We’re not playing the time game. If it takes two years, three years or five months, doesn’t matter.“

He then gushed with praise for North Korean leader Kim Jong-un, calling his recent letter “a beautiful peace of art,” and saying he “likes me, I like him, we get along.” Trump wouldn’t be Trump if he forgot to praise himself, too: were it not for him, the US would be at war with North Korea now, said the man who less than a year ago was boasting about how his nuclear button was bigger than Kim’s.

Trump ‘saved millions’ in Idlib, Syria

There was room for the bizarre in the international part of the briefing, of course. When it came to Syria (though the question was actually about the US relations with the Kurds), Trump claimed responsibility for averting an offensive on the militant-held Idlib province.

“I think millions of people would’ve been killed,” Trump said, had he not picked up the “failing New York Times,” read about the upcoming battle and ordered Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and National Security Advisor John Bolton to stop it.

“Nobody is going to give me credit, but that’s OK.”

He most generously gave credit to Russia and Syria “for not doing it.” It was them and Turkey, after all, that actually hammered out a deal on September 17 that created a buffer zone between government troops and rebels.

‘It will probably be just US and Mexico’ – on revised NAFTA deal

Trump hinted that Canada might be left out from a new trade deal, because if the negotiations with Canada do not work out, the US is “going to make a much better deal” while putting “billions of dollars into our treasury” from import taxes.

“What we are probably going to do is call it USMC… But It will probably or possibly be just USM, United States and Mexico.”

He said he had declined a one-on-one meeting with Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau during the UN General Assembly, because of how poorly Canada treats American farmers with its dairy tariffs. Trudeau’s spokesperson said they never requested a meeting.

Trump says he is making Iran suffer like never before

Stressing that, unlike his predecessor Barack Obama, he favored the people of Iran against their government, Trump then boasted that he has brought them unprecedented misery.

“There are riots in the streets, you can’t buy bread, you can’t buy anything, it’s a disaster.”

The most important thing is that Iranians are having it much worse now than they were ”during the green period with President Obama.” It doesn’t matter that other nations are acknowledging the success of the 2015 nuclear deal and trying to save it, Trump said, it was still the “worst deal ever.”

Two-state solution for Israel and Palestine ‘is a real estate deal’

Trump said he was okay with either a one- or two-state solution for the Arab-Israeli conflict. A two-state solution would allow for “people governing themselves,” but it’s more difficult, because “it’s a real-estate deal,” where “you need metes and bounds and lots of carve-outs and lots of everything.”

“I’m happy if they’re happy. I’m a facilitator. I want to see if I can get a deal done so that people don’t get killed anymore.”

This coming from a US President who has been taking Israel’s side and ignoring Palestine’s at every turn. One of the moves that caused the most outrage was his moving the US embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem, which derailed talks and caused Arab protests worldwide.

Paul Pogba admits he could LEAVE Man Utd, addresses Mourinho in worrying press conference https://briefnews.eu/paul-pogba-admits-he-could-leave-man-utd-addresses-mourinho-in-worrying-press-conference/ https://briefnews.eu/paul-pogba-admits-he-could-leave-man-utd-addresses-mourinho-in-worrying-press-conference/#respond Thu, 06 Sep 2018 20:24:57 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/paul-pogba-admits-he-could-leave-man-utd-addresses-mourinho-in-worrying-press-conference/

The French World Cup winner was a target for Spanish giants Barcelona during the close season.

Pogba’s agent Mino Raiola held talks with Nou Camp bosses about a possible deal for but Manchester United held firm, making it clear the midfielder was going nowhere.

Pogba has held clear-the-air talks with Mourinho in a bid to repair their damaged relationship and he was asked about the United boss while on international duty.

He says they have a ‘pure coach player relationship’ – although that won’t stop him walking out of Old Trafford.

“We have a pure coach-player relationship, that’s right,” Pogba said.

“One thing I can assure you: I will always give 100 percent, no matter who the coach is, I always give everything for United, I cannot say more.”

Asked about the chances of him staying at United, Pogba added: “My future is currently at Manchester United. I still have a contract. I’m playing there at the moment, but who knows what will happen in the next few months.”

Express Sport understands player and manager have made a pact that will see Pogba commit himself to United for this season and not agitate for a move in the January transfer window.

In return, United have agreed not to discuss his immediate future and will address the issue next summer.

Barca have made no secret of their desire to sign Pogba and not disguised their strong interest in him.

Luis Suarez and Gerard Pique have both gone public on Pogba and talked up Barca’s chances of landing the 25-year-old.

Suarez said: “Pogba’s an elite player who’s won everything. He has a lot of quality and he’s one of the references at United.

“I think he would like to be competing for more than he is at the moment. He’s not a player that belongs to Barca, but he would always be welcome.”

While Pique said: “We would be happy to have him (Pogba) here.

“I know little about what he is going through in Manchester and the relationship that exists (between Mourinho and Pogba).

“Pogba is a very good player, but a Manchester United player right now and we’ll see if something happens in the future.”

Barca vice-president Jordi Mestre has also added fuel to the fire after by insisting Pogba is unhappy at United and that he is one of the best players in the world.

Mestre said: “We do not talk about players that are not at our club. What I read is that Pogba is unhappy at Manchester United and his agent, Mino Raiola, has been more vehement in efforts to sell him.

“But I have not read that he says he wants to sign for the club. Yes, he is a player of unquestionable quality in the eyes of all the world.”

No one can deny that SpaceX founder Elon Musk has thought a lot about how to transport humans safely to Mars with his Big Falcon Rocket. But when it comes to Musk’s highly ambitious plans to settle Mars in the coming decades, some critics say Musk hasn’t paid enough attention to what people will do once they get there.

However, SpaceX may be getting more serious about preparing for human landings on Mars, both in terms of how to keep people alive as well as providing them something meaningful to do. According to private invitations seen by Ars, the company will host a “Mars Workshop” on Tuesday and Wednesday this week at the University of Colorado Boulder. Although the company would not comment directly, a SpaceX official said, “I can confirm the event and that we regularly meet with a variety of experts concerning our missions to Mars.”

This appears to be the first meeting of such magnitude, however, with nearly 60 key scientists and engineers from industry, academia, and government attending the workshop, including a handful of leaders from NASA’s Mars exploration program. The invitation for the inaugural Mars meeting encourages participants to contribute to “active discussions regarding what will be needed to make such missions happen.” Attendees are being asked to not publicize the workshop or their attendance.

  • During his press conference with Putin on Monday, Trump initially said he did not “see any reason why” Russia would be responsible for meddling in the 2016 US Presidential election.
  • Trump later clarified his comments on Tuesday, telling reporters that he accepted “our intelligence community’s conclusion that Russia’s meddling in the 2016 election took place.”
  • Burnett did not appear convinced and noted that Trump and his aides failed to “correct the record,” even as Republican lawmakers demanded clarification for “28 hours.”

In a scathing opening monologue on Tuesday, CNN anchor Erin Burnett slammed President Donald Trump’s explanation that he misspoke during a joint press conference with Russian President Vladimir Putin.

“Damage control, the president claims he misspoke once in his disastrous summit with Putin,” Burnett said on CNN. “Did the dog eat his homework too?”
