Four days after copping an accidental headbutt from teammate Isaac Humphries that resulted in heavy concussion, Blanchfield is on the mend.

Last Thursday night and Friday, though, he struggled to sleep due to headaches.

It’s the third concussion Blanchfield has suffered in his career and it’s why he won’t risk playing against the Bullets if doctors rule him out.

“I can’t afford to rush back, because concussion is serious,” Blanchfield told The Daily Telegraph.

“I’m definitely feeling better than I did on Thursday, but I’m still not 100 per cent.

“I’m talking to the doctor every day. It is how I feel every 24 hours and I can’t put a time on it.

“I have to look after myself because it can lead to some pretty serious things.

“I walked down to the coffee shop yesterday and my body just doesn’t feel right yet.

“I feel like this one might take me a couple of days to get over and it’s not something I can take lightly.”

To understand Blanchfield’s cautious approach, you needed to feel his pain after he sustained the concussion in the first half against Cairns on Thursday.

The unintentional head clash with Humphries left him on the floor for several minutes, before he was assisted to the sheds and didn’t return.

Blanchfield then spent a sleepless night due to headaches.

“I was waking up every two or so hours to take Panadol because I couldn’t sleep as my head was pounding,” he recalled.

“That’s how it felt the next day as well.

“I don’t really remember the incident though. I remember afterwards trying to stand up and having the wobbly legs.

“But I don’t remember getting hit. I saw it on twitter afterwards though — it was scary.”

Blanchfield believes his latest setback highlights the importance for all sport, professional or not, to take concussion seriously.

“It’s not fun to have and it’s not something I would wish for anyone to have to deal with,” he said.

“You can’t take it lightly because it can have major affects later on.

“It’s good to see basketball has jumped on board with the concussion protocols in place for athletes in other sports.

“Our team doctor is not letting me do anything until I feel 100 per cent.”

Blanchfield said it “sucked” to watch Sydney’s nine-point loss to Cairns on Saturday from his lounge room.

He remains hopeful he’ll receive the all-clear to take on Brisbane at Qudos Bank Arena on Saturday night.

The Kings must beat the Bullets to keep their slim finals hopes alive and it won’t be easy with star import forward Perry Ellis also in doubt with a shoulder injury.

Even if Ellis is ruled out, Blanchfield insists Sydney have the roster to win and keep their season alive.

“It’s a huge game,” he said.

“We could only really afford to lose four more games for the rest of the season and we dropped one to Cairns.

“Now we have to move on and try and beat Brisbane.”

Spanish police are investigating an “Islamophobic” attack which saw a group of young men beat up a 38-year-old Muslim woman in Madrid.

Three young men set upon the woman outside the Usera Metro station in the Spanish capital. She received several blows and was taken to hospital by ambulance, suffering from a panic attack and concussion.

Police in Madrid are treating the incident as a hate crime, El Mundo reports. The Diversity Management Unit of Madrid’s police force is investigating the case.

The unit investigates any act of intolerance and discrimination that occurs in the Spanish capital, whether it’s a criminal offense or not.

The woman told investigators that the men insulted her and started beating her because she was wearing a hijab and looked like a Muslim.

Numerous politicians and officials were quick to condemn the assault which came less than a week after the terror attacks in Barcelona and Cambrils that killed 14 people and injured another 130.

“We condemn the sexist aggression suffered yesterday. Madrid will always be an open and cosmopolitan city,” José Luis Martínez-Almeida, a spokesman for Madrid’s Municipal People’s Group, wrote on Twitter.

Meanwhile, El Pais reports that the Diversity Management Unit are investigating “xenophobic and Islamophobic” banners hung on a building that the neo-Nazi Hogar Social group uses as its headquarters.

‘Islam destroys Europe’ and ‘Terrorists Welcome,’ a reference to the ‘Refugees welcome’ campaign, the banners read.

Authorities have called for them to be removed.
