Yes, Netflix, love is blind… but it’s also pretty ridiculous sometimes, right? Well, at least on reality TV, it is. Love Is Blind has attracted a lot of buzz for its novel concept — daters meet each other in separate rooms and talk through a wall, and then get engaged without ever seeing what the other person looks like — but it’s hardly the first out-there dating show to hit the small screen. In pursuit of romance (or, let’s be honest, camera time), TV daters have subjected themselves to plenty of outlandish obstacles, with the success of The Bachelor inspiring dozens of increasingly bizarre dating shows. Some vanished after only a handful of airings (R.I.P., Chains of Love) while others are still going strong to this day (welcome back, Temptation Island!). In honor of Love Is Blind‘s reunion special debuting this week on Netflix, we’re taking a fond look back at some of the wildest dating shows we’ve ever seen. From Date My Mom (yikes) to The Littlest Groom (really?), we can hardly believe some of these ever made it on the air. Check out the gallery to the right — or click here for direct access — for our list of wacky dating shows, and then hit the comments below to remind us of any we might have missed.

It’s called the H500, and the design house says it features “leading edge technology developed by HK of the drive system, with battery, electric motors, central control unit and range extender.” So it sounds like an extended-range hybrid in the mold of the Chevrolet Volt or the BMW i3.

The images show a swoopy fastback design and an interior featuring extensive digital interfaces, including a touchscreen low on the center console, and Hybrid Kinetic’s basketball-like logo on the steering wheel. Pininfarina says the H500 “combines elegance and sportiness, pure shapes and sophisticated details, designed for dynamic lifestyle seekers.” There are no details as yet on the second concept.
The teasers come a month after Pininfarina unveiled the HK GT, the electric-powered luxury gullwing concept at the Geneva Motor Show. The H500 and unnamed concept bring to six the number of concepts produced in tandem with Hybrid Kinetic Group, joining the H600 all-wheel-drive electric sedan that it unveiled in Geneva in 2017 and plans to build in 2019 or 2020, plus two SUVs: the K550 crossover and the K750 seven-seater.
Pininfarina is promising to release more details about the new concepts in the coming days.

Easter is coming up, which is a big deal for both Christians and Jeep fans. The latter of which are excited because the annual Easter Jeep Safari off-road event in Moab is coming, along with Jeep’s wild concepts it builds for the event each year. We’re getting an sneak peek at two of those Jeeps early, thanks to illustrations the company revealed.
The first of them is very obviously a two-door 2018 Wrangler, but with some small changes, and the inspiration is obvious when spotting the badge on the front fender: “Jeepster.” This concept pulls from the old Jeepster Commando from the ’60s and ’70s, a slightly longer Jeep that was a bit more civilized and had an available hardtop that had a distinct slant at the back. The slanted rear roof is very clear on this Wrangler’s hardtop, and it has the contrasting color that its inspiration had, too. This Wrangler Jeepster is more off-road ready, though, with big chunky tires, a full-size spare moved inside, and gas cans mounted to the rear cargo door.
It’s more difficult to tell what sets apart the second Jeep Safari concept. It’s obviously based on the 2018 Wrangler. The front fenders have been severely cut down and the front bumper removed to make room for what appear to be enormous tires and lots of suspension travel. It also bears a big hood scoop, maybe indicating a more powerful engine underneath. It also has full front doors, but the rear top has either been removed or lowered.
We’ll have more details on these and other Jeep Safari concepts in the next couple of weeks around the time of the event. So stay tuned for more wild Jeep news.

BlackBerry, the once-great smartphone maker that exited the hardware business in 2016, is suing Facebook for patent infringement. BlackBerry owns a portfolio of broad software patents that cover some of the most basic features of modern smartphone messaging services—and the company says it wants Facebook to pay up.
Facebook “created mobile messaging applications that coopt BlackBerry’s innovations, using a number of the innovative security, user interface, and functionality-enhancing features that made BlackBerry’s products such a critical and commercial success in the first place,” BlackBerry’s Tuesday lawsuit claims. The lawsuit argues that Facebook subsidiaries Instagram and Whatsapp infringe BlackBerry’s patents in addition to Facebook’s own messaging apps.
It’s not unusual for technology companies that lose their lead in the marketplace to turn to patent licensing as an alternative way to make money. Yahoo sued Facebook for patent infringement in 2012, for example, while Nokia sued Apple for patent infringement in 2016.

Albert Einstein said,
If you can’t explain it simply, you don’t understand it well enough.
But a lot of times, we struggle about how to explain some difficult, or even abstract concepts to others.
In this article, I will provide you with a solution: metaphor. Explaining and examining concepts using metaphors improves our thinking.
Metaphorical thinking is a great way to analyze and synthesize abstract concepts such as cyber security. In a report issued by Sandia National Laboratories for the U.S. Department of Energy, a research team explored metaphors for cyber security. By thinking metaphorically, they found it improved their thinking and discussion of cyber security in four ways:[1]
Before we examine some metaphors, let’s first define what a metaphor is. In Metaphors We Live By, George Lakoff and Mark Johnson define metaphor in this way:
Conceptual metaphors are grounded in everyday experience. They are abstract. Our conceptual systems are not consistent overall, since the metaphors used to reason about any concept may be inconsistent. We live our lives on the basis of inferences we derive via metaphor.
On the other hand, Zoltan Kovecses defines a metaphor in Metaphor: A Practical Introduction as:
Metaphor is defined as understanding one conceptual domain in terms of another conceptual domain. Examples of this include when we talk and think about life in terms of journeys. A convenient shorthand way of capturing this view of metaphor is the following: conceptual domain (A) is conceptual domain (B), which is what is called a conceptual metaphor. A conceptual metaphor consists of two conceptual domains, in which one domain is understood in terms of another.

Let’s examine some metaphors to help with the understanding of cyber warfare and cyber security. My inspiration for the creation of the format for my ideas that follow came from Bigthink.com.

For more information on this concept, read In Athena’s Camp.

For more information on this concept, read here Lessons from pest control: Why the popular metaphors in cybersecurity are broken.

Thinking about concepts using metaphors leads to a deeper understanding of an idea and leads to new and creative approaches. They are a way for us to fill in the gap and create connections in our mind regarding a concept.
Using the ideas above, what are some metaphors you can think of for difficult and abstract concepts?

While Hyundai brought a pair of pretty standard tuner cars to the 2017 SEMA show, it also displayed a couple of weird ones, and the brand’s stand was all the better for it. Bisimoto Engineering’s HyperEconiq Ioniq takes performance engineering and puts it in the service of efficiency, while Rockstar Performance Garage’s Santa Fe Sport turns a soft-roader into a pretty credible go-anywhere machine.
–
–
Bisi Ezerioha is best known around the halls of SEMA for stuffing wildly powerful engines into unsuspecting vehicles. With the HyperIoniq, based on Hyundai’s Ioniq hybrid, his company flipped the script and applied years of tuning expertise to the task of squeezing maximum efficiency out of the commuter special. Most immediately noticeable are the rear fender spats meant to increase aerodynamic efficiency. Set up with a pulse-chamber exhaust system, Racepack OBD-monitoring electronics with an interactive OBD cluster, Carbon Revolution 19-by-5-inch one-piece carbon-fiber wheels, Buddy Club aluminum calipers, Recaro Pole Position racing seats, and a Progress Performance dropped coil-over suspension, it also sports enhanced generators, all in the pursuit of the mighty mpg. Bisimoto claims that the mods are good for 80 miles per gallon in regular driving. We managed 52 mpg out of the stock Ioniq hybrid in our highway testing. A 28-mpg jump is serious business, but then again, Bisi has pretty much dedicated his life to posting crazy numbers.
–
–
On the other side of the divide lies the Hyundai Santa Fe Sport Moab Extreme, put together by the caffeine swillers at Rockstar Performance Garage. It’s got a Cascadia tent on the roof and a Kicker sound system inside, and it rolls on 17-inch KMC Machete beadlock wheels wearing 35-inch Mickey Thompson Baja MTZ tires hung from the car by King coil-overs with 2.5-inch internal bypass shocks with reservoirs. To handle the bashing, Rockstar fabbed up some skid plates and tucked a Warn winch in behind the grille. In its none-more-digi black camo paint job, it looks surprisingly tough, like it’d be at home playing with the new Jeep Wrangler out on Utah’s red rocks.
–
–
–
–
–
Rockstar also upgraded the power with an AEM intake as well as a Mishimoto intercooler and downpipe. Spent gases exit via a Magnaflow exhaust system. Oh, and did we mention that it’s got a wet N2O system from Nitrous Express? Nitrous and a tent? It’s gotta be either a Dead show or the SEMA show, man.

2018 Ford EcoSport by Vaccar

What is it?
Ford’s new-to-the-U.S. EcoSport gets the custom treatment from Vaccar. The modifications are fairly limited. Under the hood is a standard 2.0-liter naturally aspirated four-cylinder that’s livened up with a cold-air intake and axle-back exhaust. It should also be more responsive with the recalibrated throttle-by-wire gas pedal. The little crossover also is better suited to dirt roads with large fender flares and bigger all-terrain tires. Ford roof rail bars and some aftermarket amber LED light bars complete the exterior. Occupants of the EcoSport will be treated to better sound courtesy of the upgraded sound system and 10-inch subwoofer.
Why we like it.
Well it’s the only EcoSport here, so besides being our favorite by default, we also like that at least one company is taking a stab at making the little trucklet interesting. It probably doesn’t go much faster with the limited performance upgrades and bigger heavier tires, but it does look better than a stock model, and should sound better, too. Maybe in the future we’ll see more ambitious custom EcoSports. It is based on the outgoing Fiesta, so it would be really cool to see someone fit the Fiesta ST powertrain in one. Maybe add back the hatch-mounted spare available overseas. Or if Ford would like to do one (or both) of those things, we wouldn’t object.
2018 Ford Expedition by LGE-CTS Motorsports

What is it?
This Expedition is another off-road oriented vehicle. It features a lifted suspension with coilovers and big fender flares to fit 35-inch mud-terrain tires. Those big tires are stopped by larger brakes, and the EcoBoost V6 engine benefits from a cat-back exhaust. Custom off-road bumpers and roof rack from LGE CTS Motorsports are also attached to the truck. It’s ready for camping trips, too, with a roof-top tent above, and a refrigerator and safe inside.
Why we like it.
It’s an Expedition that’s actually ready for some expeditions. It now has a place to sleep and a place to keep food. With all the storage space, this would be perfect for the outdoorsman with room for toys or more supplies. It’s also a nice example of how you don’t need to go crazy to have a solid off-roader. Add some suspension lift and some bigger tires and you’re good to go. We also appreciate the addition of upgraded brakes, something that isn’t a bad idea when dealing with heavy vehicles and bigger, heavier wheels and tires.
2017 Ford F-150 RTR Muscle Truck by RTR Vehicles

What is it?
RTR Vehicles took a V8 F-150 and prepped it for high-speed off-road duty. The engine simply has a custom exhaust, but the suspension is upgraded with long-travel shocks all around, and extended control arms up front. It’s also supported by heavy duty springs for additional load capacity. Visually, it features RTR’s custom tailgate, fender flares, and grille. The grille has the same style of accent lights as the version available for the 2015-and-up Ford Mustang. Under the flares are off-road tires, and a skid plate protects the under side of the truck.
Why we like it.
We don’t have anything against the EcoBoost V6 in the current Ford F-150 Raptor. But as good as it is, it still doesn’t make those sweet burbly noises the old V8 did. As such, we’re happy to see RTR build what is basically a new generation V8 Raptor. It’s also cool to see a company turn a regular F-150 into a real Raptor competitor.
2017 Ford F-250 Project SD126 by BDS

What is it?
This F-250 is both the smallest and biggest F-250 you may see running around. It’s among the smallest because BDS took a stock regular cab F-250, and shortened it to accommodate a short bed (not available on Super Duty Fords) and thus be more capable off road with a greater breakover angle and less truck to have to maneuver. The shorter length also supplied the truck with its name, as it now has a 126-inch wheelbase. It’s also one of the biggest Super Duty trucks because it’s been lifted to fit gargantuan 42-inch off-road tires. Supporting the body, which has wide fiberglass fenders to fit over the tires, are Fox coilovers that have 14 inches of travel. Additional upgrades include F-450 axles, a cold-air intake, upgraded exhaust, engine tune, winch, and 40-inch LED light bar.
Why we like it
Come on, this thing is basically a Tonka truck brought to life. It’s huge. It’s orange. It has a big powerful diesel. It’s even tastefully done, for a giant orange truck. It doesn’t have gaudy graphics, overwrought wheels, or too many lights. Plus it has some legitimate off-road parts under it. It hits every note just right.
