Emmerdale viewers are going to see Matty Barton (played by Ash Palmisciano) head to hopsital for his surgery in upcoming scenes. 

But his decision to go under the knife has left mum Moira Dingle (Natalie J. Robb) nervous and worried. 

And as a result she is going to turn on Victoria Barton (Isobel Hodgins) and unleash her frustrations in her direction. 

Official soap spoilers have revealed how Matty is going to get drunk the night before his appointment with the consultant. 

Frustrated and furious, Moira questions whether he son is taking this life-changing decision seriously enough. 

And when faced with the doctor, she steps in to ask the questions leaving Matty extremely annoyed. 

Upset with how his mum took over, Matty decides he doesn’t need Moira’s support and bans him from coming to the operation. 

Ignoring his request, the farmer turns up at the hospital and whilst a nervous Matty sits patiently waiting, Moira runs into Victoria. 

And in true Victoria-style she is all guns blazing and tells Moira off for not respecting Matty’s wishes. 

But, it isn’t long until Moira explains her worries; she fears her son could die on the operating table, thus meaning she loses another child. 

As the two women bond, they are interrupted as a nurse comes rushing past and into Matty’s operating room. Will he be ok? 

Elsewhere in Emmerdale, there is a chance Cain Dingle (Jeff Hordley) could lose custody of son Kyle. 

It comes after Amy Wyatt (Natalie Ann Jamieson) returned to the village and expressed how much she wanted Kyle to be involved in her life.

Express.co.uk spoke exclusively to Linda Lamb, a director at LSL Family Law firm about the impact the ‘missing Joe Tate case’ could have on Cain’s current arrangements with son Kyle and explained how Amy could have a chance at seeking custody. 

Meanwhile, many viewers are waiting for the moment Maya Stepney (Louisa Clein) is finally exposed for grooming Jacob Gallagher (Joe-Warren Plant). 

Earlier this week the pair were caught by Liv Flaherty (Isobel Steele) in his bedroom and she quickly found out the school teacher had coerced Jacob into a relationship through her manipulative ways. 

After demanding £5,000 from Maya, Liv is going to up the threat and should the teacher be unable to find the money she is going to leak the recording. What will Maya do? 

Alongside this, there are also suspicions surrounding Jessie Grant (Sandra Marvin) and whether her being in close proximity of both Jacob and Maya as the headmistress will bear consequences. Is Jessie in danger?

People with diabetes have a much greater risk of developing problems with their feet, due to the damage raised blood sugars can cause to sensation and circulation.

Now a footwear company has warned warm wet weather increases the risk of serious infections for diabetics.

It said the currently weather – warm but humid and with heavy downpours could cause problems for people with diabetes.

Experts at IOMO Footnurse Socks are reminding people with the condition that warm wet weather could leave them at an increased risk of foot ulcers.

WHAT IS TYPE 2 DIABETES?

“For the 4 million people in the UK who are living with diabetes, ill-fitting footwear is more than just an uncomfortable inconvenience,” said a spokesman for the company.

“With diabetes, a simple cut or blister can turn into what’s known as a diabetic foot ulcer, but with due attention to what we put on our feet can minimise the risk.

“Raised blood sugar levels impact on sensation and circulation, meaning that even small wounds can go unnoticed, and take longer to heal.

“The feet are a particularly good breeding ground for bacteria, providing a warm, moist and dark environment for it to thrive.

“This can be made worse by in the current humid and rainy conditions.”

Experts have warned wearing inappropriate footwear for the current weather can be very serious for diabetics.

Around 10 per cent of diabetics will experience a foot ulcer, which in the worst cases can lead to amputation.

Symptoms of a foot ulcer include a wound that is painful to the touch, firm in the surrounding area, warm or discoloured.

SYMPTOMS OF TYPE 2 DIABETES

People with type 2 diabetes are recommended to see a podiatrist once a year on the NHS, but doctors warn people should also regularly check feet themselves.

IOMO said choosing the correct footwear can prevent ulcers developing.

Guidance by health watchdog NICE said: “Foot complications are common in people with diabetes.

“It is estimated that 10 per cent of people with diabetes will have a diabetic foot ulcer at some point in their lives.

“A foot ulcer can be defined as a localised injury to the skin and or underlying tissue, below the ankle, in a person with diabetes.”

“Poor blood flow also means the wound heals much slower, and in the most devastating cases, this can lead to amputation.”

Diabetes UK said has previously said more money should be ploughed into improving treatment for people with foot ulcers.

Estimates indicate that as many as one-third of people with the disease will develop at least one foot ulcer over the course of their lifetime.

Experts have claimed morbidity and mortality associated with foot ulcers can go unrecognised by doctors and patients.

Jon Bloom, who worked at Massachusetts General Hospital said he has seen a number of foot amputations caused by foot ulcers.

His new startup called Podimetrics has developed a smart mat which can detect signs before foot ulcers develop. This, he said, could drastically reduce amputations and reduce medical costs.

The smart map is fitted with sensors which detect spikes in temperature in the foot – which are often a warning sign of ulcers.

The patient is supposed to stand on the mat for about 20 seconds every day, with the measurements being uploaded.

If an ulcer is sensed, it can send a message to the patient’s GP to treat the issue as early as possible.

A paper published in Diabetes Care revealed the mat has already detected 97 per cent of ulcers about five weeks before they were diagnosed by a doctor.

Foot ulcers are likely to get infected.

Diabetes UK said NHS England could save as much as £250million a year – a quarter of the £1 billion it spends on diabetes foot care.

The charity found significant savings could be made by improving foot care services and by reducing the number of foot ulcers in people with ulcers.

Speaking at the time, Chris Askew, Diabetes UK chief executive said there are more than 20 leg, foot or toe amputations, most of the resulting from a diabetic foot ulcer.

Experts have said people with diabetic foot ulcers are less able to feel pain. When ulcers are healed, as many as 40 per cent of patients will have recurrence of some kind in a year.

This rises to three-quarters of patients by five years.

Dr David G. Armstrong, professor of surgery and director of the Southern Arizona Limb Salvage Alliance at the University of Arizona College of Medicine said: “People can wear a hole intheir foot just as you or I might wear a hole in a sock.

“These sores are covered up by a shoe or a sock, and very often a person with diabetes may feel little or no pain.”

The expert said developing a diabetic foot ulcer means a person’s chances of living an additional ten years are half that of someone who has not developed one.
