The Undoing and Big Little Lies share a network (HBO), a writer (David E. Kelley), a star (Nicole Kidman) and a conceit (wealthy moms in crisis!). But that’s pretty much where the project’s similarities begin and end, maintain Kidman and her Undoing director Susanne Bier. The fact that Bier has a “very different” visual style than Big Little Lies‘ respective Season 1 and 2 helmers, Jean-Marc Vallée and Andrea Arnold, allows The Undoing to stand on its own, Kidman tells TVLine, adding, “That’s the beauty of great filmmakers.” Bier acknowledges that she had seen both seasons of Big Little Lies prior to taking on The Undoing. “I liked it a lot, but it’s definitely very different,” the Night Manager auteur maintains. “I think one of the reason why it gets compared a lot to [BLL] is that David E. Kelley writes [female characters] really well.” Another parallel between the two dramas: Like The Undoing, Big Little Lies was initially conceived as a limited series. It would, of course, go on to a see a second season. And talk of a potential third season is picking up steam, especially with Kidman making the media rounds for The Undoing. The Oscar and Emmy winner recently divulged to Marie Claire Australia that Kelley and BLL author Liane Moriarty “have a really good idea for” a third season.” Kidman tells TVLine that the pair shared “a tidbit” of that idea with her, but she’s reluctant to share it because “you never know what it will end up as.” For her part, she’s game to head back to Monterey. “I would like there to be [a Season 3],” she enthuses. “There are so many great stories to tell and I am open to all the different horizons. I think it would take an enormous amount of commitment from all of us. We all love each other and want to work together. We’re deeply intertwined now. There’s this enormous pull from this desire to just be together. “Whether that [camaraderie yields] a story that will be fascinating and complex and important, that’s a different thing,” she continues. “It would need to be a story that makes our jaws drop.” A Quiet Place was released earlier this year and became one of the biggest horror hits of 2018. In it, the characters cannot make a sound, or they will be hunted down by deadly creatures with exceptional hearing. In Bird Box, a mysterious entity or creature roams the earth, and the only way to dodge its wrath is to not look at it. So while one focusses in on sound, the other is on sight. The movie was reportedly put together very fast, and Bier was asked in a new interview if the success of A Quiet Place hurried it along. “No, no, no,” she told Polygon. “We were shooting [in April 2018] when we had heard of A Quiet Place and we were almost finished editing when it came out.” She added: “I think also what is one of the reasons why it keeps being compared to is … yes, they are post-apocalyptic thrillers, both of them, but more relevant is that they both have female protagonists, and so few movies with female protagonists. “And mothers. So they kind of tend to be compared. “I think A Quiet Place is a great movie, but they’re very different.” On how Bird Box was made speedily, she explained: “So I got told that I should read the script relatively fast because it was something which could happen pretty fast, and Sandra Bullock was interested in starring. “She and I met a few times and talked about working together. I got very interested in it. “There was something really compelling about her playing that sort of woman who is not particularly accessible. She’s brutal, she’s harsh, she doesn’t talk nicely to the kids, but she wants to then to survive at any price, and I felt that her playing that part would just be really interesting. “So I read it and expressed my interest and then at the same time it kind of moved from one of the studios to Netflix and then it happened very fast.” The tense thriller has been entertaining audiences since its release, with Bier also explaining how she filmed it with her actors being unable to see. Bird Box is streaming on Netflix now.

He’s only 14 but already Matthew Savoie is drawing comparisons to the likes of NHL stars Sidney Crosby and Nathan MacKinnon.
Trouble is, Savoie isn’t eligible for the Western Hockey League bantam draft until May 2019 and even then would be allowed to play just five games during the 2019-20 campaign. That has Savoie’s family considering whether to apply for exceptional status.
If granted, Savoie could play the entire 2019-20 season.
“There’s been some talk about it,” said Savoie’s father, Scott.
Scott Savoie is well aware of the risks associated with allowing his son to move away from home and play in the WHL as a 15-year-old. But there’s also the consideration of Matthew Savoie’s development.
“We still want to challenge him in the game,” Scott Savoie said. “So depending on what his skill level is, if that’s the next level he needs to get to to be challenged, then you have to take that into account as well.”
The native of St. Albert, Alta., began playing bantam hockey as a 12-year-old last season, competing against 13- and 14-year-olds. He’s currently in his second year at the level, having recorded 20 goals and 61 points in 19 games with the Northern Alberta Xtreme.
He kind of plays the same type of style [as Sidney Crosby] where he’s so competitive, fights for pucks and is hard on his stick.— ISS Hockey scout Brent Parker on Alberta teen Matthew Savoie
His average of 3.2 points per game is tied for first in the CCSHL Bantam Prep Division.
Brent Parker, a former Regina Pats executive now serving as the head western Canadian scout for ISS Hockey, feels Savoie might’ve been a top-five selection at last year’s WHL draft and would certainly go first overall this year if eligible.
“Because of the way he skates I hate using Sidney Crosby,” Parker said. “But he kind of plays the same type of style where he’s so competitive, fights for pucks and is hard on his stick.
“I remember watching Nathan MacKinnon in bantam with Shattuck St. Mary’s, and there’s a little bit of that. I don’t think he’s quite as explosive a skater as MacKinnon, but he’s an awful good skater.”
But the WHL isn’t Savoie’s only option. He could follow his older brother, 15-year-old Carter Savoie, and take the college route. The older Savoie has committed to the University of Denver in November despite being selected by Regina in the 2017 WHL draft.
The Canadian Hockey League has granted exceptional status sparingly.
The Quebec Major Junior Hockey league have given it to just one player (Joe Veleno) while the Ontario Hockey League has awarded the distinction to four players, including Edmonton Oilers captain Connor McDavid.
The WHL has never had done so.
“If they apply for it, I’d be shocked if they didn’t get it,” Parker said. “He’s good enough.
“You watch the way he plays and how hard he competes. He’s dynamic when he’s got the puck on his stick and yet he works hard to get back and play the game at the other end too — there’s just not much to not like about the way he plays.”
One concern the family has about requesting for exceptional status is the social aspect. Savoie would face some players who are five years older than him but his coach, Tyrel Spitzer, doesn’t see that as an issue.
“I would say he’s a little bit more advanced than the majority of kids his age,” said Spitzer. “Maybe part of that has to do with always playing up [a level] and being around that and seeing that.”
Savoie is also ahead of the curve off the ice. The Grade 8 student is already working on Grade 9 classes, which he’s expected to wrap up before Christmas.
The five-foot-eight, 150-pound forward tries to model his game after McDavid and is continually looking to improve.
“My stick skills and shot at this point and my communication as well,” Savoie said regarding the areas he’s looking to get better in.
Playing against older talent has required him to be more focused.
“It’s a lot more challenging and it makes you work harder,” he said. “Put more effort in.”
Savoie’s ability to successfully make the jump to midget hockey — and play against 17-year-olds — next season will help the family determine whether to apply for exceptional status.
“If he’s one of the top players there then it’s always a good measuring stick,” said family advisor Kevin Epp. “When you see kids that are a year ahead of you who’re going to go play major junior, if you’re as good as them and you’re younger, then it’s kind of like, ‘OK well, if there going to play in the WHL, why wouldn’t I?’ “

Tech companies and NFL quarterbacks have a surprising amount in common.
While tech stocks carry outsized influence, often dictating the direction of the whole market, professional football teams are also at the whim of their signal-callers. The market would crash if tech stocks started failing — the dotcom bubble anyone? — just like how an injury to an NFL team’s starting quarterback usually spells certain disaster.
Now, as the NFL season approaches, many casual football fans are trying to get up to speed on which players and teams to watch. And there’s no better place to start than with the guys who are throwing the passes.
Below is a breakdown to help make sense of it all, with a special focus on the tech companies that best embody some of the league’s most notable quarterbacks.

Remember when Amazon was just an online bookstore? Well, before Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers was an MVP and Super Bowl champion, he was just NFL legend Brett Favre’s back-up.
It took Amazon and Rodgers years of quietly toiling away at their respective trades, plotting world domination, for them to break out and realize their immense potential. Amazon is now disrupting every industry in sight, while Rodgers is continuing his reign of terror over opposing defenses and once is again expected to carry his team to a fantastic season. And, like Amazon, Rodgers is showing no signs of slowing.
Also notable is how both Amazon and Rodgers faced their share of doubters during their respective ascents. Short-sighted pessimists first questioned Amazon’s initial foray into online bookselling, and then scratched their heads when the retail juggernaut broadened its scope. Meanwhile, Rodgers suffered the indignity of slipping to the 24th pick in the NFL draft, despite being projected as a top selection, then was stuck as Favre’s understudy for three full seasons.

The two undisputed kings of their respective fields. New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady is a five-time Super Bowl champion, a two-time NFL MVP, and widely considered to be one of the best to ever play the game. Apple is the biggest company in the world, is still growing rapidly, and holds more cash than many small nations.
In addition, both Brady and Apple got where they are today because of legendary leadership. Brady has benefited greatly from the tutelage of Patriots coach Bill Belichick, one of the greatest and winningest coaches in NFL history. Meanwhile, Apple prospered under the visionary guidance of former CEO Steve Jobs, who designed such landscape-altering products as the iPhone during his tenure.
That’s not to say the two have always had it easy. Brady suffered a torn ACL in his team’s first game in 2008 and missed the rest of the season. Similarly, Apple founder and CEO Steve Jobs was fired in 1985, a move that almost destroyed the company. Needless to say, both companies bounced back, and are the unstoppable forces we know them to be today.

Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton experienced almost immediate success upon entering the NFL in 2011, winning the Offensive Rookie of the Year award and eventually carrying his team to the Super Bowl. Facebook initially had a little tougher time gathering steam, but still managed to grow its market cap by roughly 50% over its first two years after going public in 2012. It has since become one of the most valuable companies in the world.
Further, Newton is already one of the elite few to have been named an NFL MVP (in 2015), while Zuckerberg is one of the richest people in the world, with a net worth of roughly $ 70 billion.
That’s not to say their respective ascents were without hiccups — both were accused of stealing early in their careers. Newton was suspended from the University of Florida football team in 2008 after he was arrested for allegedly stealing a laptop from another student, while Zuckerberg was sued over claims that he stole the idea for Facebook from the infamous Winklevoss twins.
They both recovered swiftly. Newton transferred to Auburn, where he won a national championship and the Heisman Trophy as the country’s top player, while Zuckerberg was able to move past the lawsuit to become the highly-respected billionaire CEO he is today.

Several young players have caught the eye lately, but one of them has been standing out at the U.S. Open.
Canada’s Denis Shapovalov is nothing less than a mix of Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal according to former world No. 1 Mats Wilander.
The 18-year-old Shapovalov, who claimed the juniors’ title at Wimbledon in 2016, defeated eighth seed Jo-Wilfried Tsonga of France in straight sets in the second round of the U.S. Open on Wednesday.
“He is a serious talent. To be 100 per cent honest, you cannot compare Shapovalov to any other youngster,” said Wilander, at the U.S. Open as an analyst for Eurosport.
5 Things About Denis Shapovalov, Tennis Superstar1:44
“He is a completely different level. It’s like watching a combination of Nadal and Federer at 18 years old. He has the fire of Nadal and the speed around the court of Nadal and he has the grace of Federer — it’s unbelievable. “He really captivates the crowd.
“[Wednesday] night it was like ‘Oh my god, where does this kid come from?’ He flies. I’m really, really impressed. The best players in the world better watch out for him now.”
Shapovalov, who next faces Britain’s Kyle Edmund on Friday, reached the semifinals at the Rogers Cup in Montreal earlier this month after beating Nadal in the third round.

The Oscar-winning Room star insisted that women have long been capable of carrying box office-smashing films, and the superhero genre should be no different.
“I mean, I feel pressure in that it’s a character that people love and are inspired by and I see that, and so I want to do right by that,” she told ET. ”And I want people to feel like their character is honoured.
“But from the female standpoint? I don’t understand why there’s pressure put on women.”
She added: ”As if it’s the most shocking concept ever that a woman can open a movie!
“It’s like, it’s kind of a tired concept. We’ve proved it for a long time!
“So I don’t feel pressure in that way at all.”
Larson’s casting was generally well-received by fans – including Samuel L Jackson, who’ll join her in the cast.
Asked by ET what he’s most looking forward to about the film, he said: “Hanging out with Brie! Brie’s my girl.”
Wonder Woman, released in June, is the highest-grossing film ever directed by a woman, having made over $ 788 million worldwide.
A sequel will follow on December 13, 2019.
As 21-year-old Omar Nurmagomedov begins his professional mixed martial arts career, it is inevitable comparisons will be made between him and his famous cousin – UFC star Khabib Nurmagomedov.
Russian Muay Thai champion Omar was successful against the two-time Jiu-Jitsu world champion from Kyrgyzstan, Alym Isabaev, beating him with a TKO in the second round of their bout at the Fight Nights Global 62 event in Moscow last Friday.
Omar did face one dangerous situation during the fight, when Isabaev caught him with an armbar in the first round, although the Russian quickly managed to get away from it.
His older cousin Khabib, who was cageside at the tournament, stepped up to his corner after the first round to make some corrections in Omar’s fight plan.
Talking exclusively to RT Sport after the fight, the young Dagestani admitted that Khabib had given him advice, although he said he preferred not to disclose what exactly had been said.
RT: How would you rate our opponent and what got you the win tonight?
Omar Nurmagomedov: He was a serious opponent and I took him seriously. But I guess I beat him due to my class advantage. Every fighter has his strong side and every fighter uses it to get the victory.
RT: Khabib was cageside during your fight. What advice did he give you?
ON: Yes, he did give me some advice. I’m not going to tell you what exactly it was; I will keep it for my future fights. But of course, I was following his advice and fighting accordingly.”
RT: How did your training camp go for that fight?
ON: The first part was in the States, at the AKA (American Kickboxing Academy). I spent two months there. Then 10 days in Russia under Abdulmanap Nurmagomedov. Then I had the weight cut.
RT: How did it feel to train at AKA?
ON: How do I break it down? When you are there you want to train and work hard. There is an unbelievable team spirit in there. You see these outstanding fighters and that makes you want to get to their level. That’s why you grind.
RT: They say Khabib took his first steps on the wrestling mat. Was it the same for you?
ON: It was. In Dagestan almost everyone takes their first steps on the wrestling mat. Then I started training in Muay Thai and Combat Sambo and eventually MMA.
RT: Does it bother you that people always compare you with Khabib?
ON: To be honest, that doesn’t bother me at all. It’s the opposite – I am happy to have such a great cousin. But I will never even attempt to compare myself to him. He is the great fighter.”
RT: Khabib walks out to the cage in his famous Papakha headgear. Will we ever see you doing that?
ON: I will wear Papakha only in one instance: if Khabib gives his Papakha to me. That is his trademark and I wouldn’t ever copy him.”
RT: Khabib is nicknamed “The Eagle.” Do you have a fight name?
ON: I don’t have any. All I’ve earned so far is the nickname ‘Junior’ – Nurmagomedov Junior. I don’t wish for anything else. I will be more than happy with that.”
His star cousin Khabib thinks Omar has a big future, but that he has to work a lot to be successful.
“I think he has a big future, because I‘ve known him all his life,” Khabib said at the opening of the Eagles MMA gym in Moscow on Saturday.

“He works so hard. I take him with me when (I’m) going to the US and when I train in Russia. He has big experience – only 21 years (old) and he has big experience. He needs still to work. We have to work with him on his ground game, on his top control. His striking is very good, you know, because he is a Russian Muay Thai champion. We need work, we need a lot of work. Yesterday he did a perfect job against a very tough opponent, too, you know, a very dangerous opponent, a two-time world champion in grappling. But he won, I am very happy about this. I think he has a very big future.”
