Lauren Graham will have some familiar help in bringing the Mighty Ducks back to notoriety. As we hinted Wednesday, Emilio Estevez will reprise his iconic role as Coach Gordon Bombay in Disney+’s forthcoming series reboot of The Mighty Ducks. He will star opposite Graham, who will play the team’s new coach. The project — which is based on the ‘90s film franchise — received a straight-to-series 10-episode order from Disney+. It will premiere laster this year. “Once a Duck, always a Duck!,” Estevez exclaimed in a statement. “After 25 years, I am delighted to lace up my skates, put on Coach Bombay’s jacket and return to play the iconic character for this new chapter in The Mighty Ducks franchise. Likewise, I am thrilled to return to my old stomping grounds with my friends at Disney and Steve Brill, the original creator of the franchise, to join them on their exciting new platform, Disney+.” Estevez, who will also serve as an EP, joins a cast that includes the aforementioned Graham, as well as Brady Noon, Swayam Bhatia, Taegen Burns, Julee Cerda, Bella Higginbotham, Luke Islam, Kiefer O’Reilly, Maxwell Simkins and De’Jon Watts. Set in present day Minnesota, the Mighty Ducks have evolved from scrappy underdogs to an ultra-competitive, powerhouse youth hockey team. After 12-year-old Evan (Noon) is unceremoniously cut from the Ducks, he and his mom Alex (Graham) set out to build their own ragtag team of misfits to challenge the cutthroat, win-at-all-costs culture of competitive youth sports. With the help of Gordon Bombay (Estevez), they discover the joys of playing just for the love of the game. As cliffhangers go, “Who shot J.R.?” it wasn’t. But it was still kinda fun that Monday’s episode of The Voice left us hanging, wondering whether Cali Wilson would choose John Legend, Blake Shelton or Gwen Stefani to be her coach. (Only Kelly Clarkson’s chair, you’ll recall, had remained unmoved during the contestant’s haunting rendition of Fleetwood Mac’s “Dreams.”) Aand… at the top of the hour, we learned that Cali opted to go with Blake. From there, NBC’s sing-off put through five more acts to the Battles. But, were any of them strong enough contenders that you thought they’d get to, much less past, the Knockouts (which thankfully have re-replaced the Live Cross Battles in Season 17). Read on, and we’ll discuss. Jordan Chase (Team Blake), “Makin’ Me Look Good Again” — Grade: B | Presented at first as a real Blind, this 19-year-old dazzled from the start with a fantastically lived-in vocal — Gwen called it “a real man voice” — that was at the same time so polished, it would’ve been easy to believe that he was an old pro. Still, it took ages for him to get any chairs turning. Post-performance, Blake praised the fact that Jordan had both a “sandpaper voice” and great range. For some reason, Gwen went on and on about how she could imagine being a 19-year-old boy. James Violet (Team Gwen), “Sweet Creature” — Grade: B- | Since this 20-year-old’s performance came at halftime in the show, I was afraid he wasn’t going to get a chair turn (there’s always one!) — and I liked him; he was funny. For instance, his secret shampoo, he told us, was water. And he had something to prove, having had his ass kicked as an L.A. busker. When he stepped behind the mic, he demonstrated admirable control without it diminishing in any way the sincerity of his performance. Kelly likened his vocal to a nice glass of wine. I’d go back for a refill, sure, but I wasn’t certain he’d stand out from the other singers in his crowded lane. So, who, if anyone, really dazzled you Tuesday? Vote in the poll below, then explain why (or why not) in the comments. Zuerlein is hoping to recover from a foot sprain so he can participate in Sunday’s game in Atalanta. The 31-year-old suffered his injury in bizarre fashion after stepping on a steel plate during a half-time warm up in the Rams NFC Championship game against the New Orleans Saints. McVay confirmed Zuerlein had limited training in the session and also gave an update on Safety Blake Countess’ injury. Both players are currently the only two listed on the Rams injury report. “Greg Zuerlein kicked a little bit, and he’s on track,” McVay said. “And I believe Blake will be good, but we want to be smart with him earlier this week.” “I think Blake will be OK with his foot and same thing with Greg. “Really that’s all you can ask for this time of year to be as healthy as we are.” Zuerlein played a crucial role in helping the Rams reach the Super Bowl. Despite sustaining the injury in the Saints game, he still put on a fantastic performance as he made two pressure kicks as the Rams beat the Saints 26-23 in overtime. The first was a 48-yard curving kick, which tied the game at 23-23 and sent the game into overtime. This was then eclipsed with a season-best 57-yard kick, which secured the victory and sent Los Angeles on their way to Georgia. After picking up the left foot injury Zuerlein brushed off the severity, despite it forcing him to have limited practice time 11 days later. “Hit something hard in the ground. Just warming up at halftime,” Zuerlein said after the Saints game. “[I] landed on something that didn’t give as much as turf and then that’s when it started hurting.” “It hurt, but not enough to stop me from playing, obviously. “It really wasn’t anything special about it, just get the job done.” The Rams training session took place at the Atlanta Falcons’ team facility in Flowery Branch and McVay was glad to get back on the field. “It was good really for players and coaches,” he said. “You almost get away from it a couple of days. It’s good just to sharpen yourself up, making sure we’re tightening all the screws on the game plan. “I thought the players did a nice job just getting a little bit of a lather. “It was really a big emphasis on above the neck, and then tomorrow and Friday will be good to kind of finalise the week.”

Injoy Fountain (Team Kelly), “7 rings” — Grade: C+ | “As a single mother, I have to make it for my child,” this onetime Rent “Seasons of Love” soloist told us before her Blind. And on stage, she made it, alright, earning chair turns from both Kelly and Gwen with her loose but impassioned Ariana Grande cover. I didn’t hear a ton of technical proficiency, but she definitely had energy to spare. As Kelly put it, “She’s a force.” I just wasn’t convinced that she was gonna be a force to be reckoned with.

Dane & Stephanie (Team Legend), “Angela” — Grade: B | Dane told us in his pre-interview that he was born Dana but realized that he was transgender when he was 14. Thankfully, his twin sister/singing partner was supportive and loving when he came out. On stage, they sounded beautiful together on their Lumineers cover — very chill and coffeehouse, with vocals so synchronized, you could’ve convinced me that the same voice was just being layered on top of itself. In the long run, I’m not sure they’ll be able to compete with the vocal pyrotechnics that the show generally favors. But in the short run, they’re going to be delightful to listen to.
Preston C. Howell (Team Legend), “Dream a Little Dream of Me” — Grade: B+ | Adorably earnest, this 14-year-old got himself a four-chair turn with a Mamas & the Papas cover that was as soft and airy as a summer cloud. At first, I was on the verge of filing his audition under “Pleasant, Nothing More,” but the baby-faced wanna-Bublé refused to let me do so. He put enough of his own spin on a line here, a line there, that I thought OK, maybe he could compete with what John called the show’s usual noisy “fireworks.”

Malek’s performance as the late musician has gone down a treat with viewers, and there’s even been a Golden Globe nomination – and speculation that an Oscar nod could follow. Despite the film’s lacklustre reviews, it has broken box office records and is the most successful musical biopic of all time. So how did Malek get it so right?
Speaking to Billboard, movement coach Polly Bennett opened up on the complex nature of Mercury’s physicality.
“[Freddie] was a long-distance runner at school and a boxer,” she said of his athleticism.
“This gives us a reason why Freddie ran across the stage and punched the air, and [allows me to explain to] Rami: ‘This is why that character moves the way that he does.’
“It’s interesting that Freddie only did solo sports, rather than football or rugby or any sort of team sport.
“In itself, that creates a physical attitude.”
Mercury was self-conscious about his teeth, which was reflected in his physicality.
“If you’ve got something that you’re self-conscious of, your body is going to respond,” Bennett said.
“It’s the same for Freddie’s large teeth. On stage, he holds his microphone incredibly close to his lips.
“He’s using the apparatus as both his power and his self-consciousness.”
Malek himself has spoken about how he wanted a movement coach rather than a choreographer to help capture Mercury’s unpredictability.
His performance was widely praised by not just the public, but by Queen icon Brian May.

Father and coach of UFC lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov, Abdulmanap, says his son has been offered 15 million dollars for a rematch with Irish MMA superstar Conor McGregor, but they are aiming for the offer twice as big.
In an interview with Russian media outlet Sport 24, Abdulmanap Nurmagomedov spoke on a range of topics, including his son’s life-changing victory over McGregor at UFC229, a possible boxing match with undefeated legend Floyd Mayweather Jr. and his next UFC fight plans.
“As an active fighter, defending his UFC belt, Khabib has 3-4 fights left,” Nurmagomedov Sr. said regarding his sons plans within the promotion, while also indicating that seeing his son fighting in Russia is one of his biggest desires.
“I always had this dream – one fight (in Russia). Wherever, whenever, whoever. For the UFC to give us that. And I will be fighting for that right. We’ve spent almost an eternity (in the sport). With injuries, and without them, thinking of retiring, thinking of staying, thinking of the health. We came back, we proved our point, we won it. That is it. There is no motivation left. We won the belt, defended it.”
“It’s like not like we had two or three fights, like (Eddie) Alvarez. We conducted 11 fights, and won all 11 of them. Many people were talking about the (Al) Iaquinta fight, that he was (ranked) number 11, that he was weak, and all that. We destroyed all (these talks) in McGregor fight. Fair and square.
“We said there will be one round of a stand up fight – there was. We said we’d drop him – we did. We’ll make him give up – we did. What else do you want, dear haters? Where are you now? They are reaching out to us now. You want to fight? Sure, 30 million and we will.
When asked by the reporter whether his last words were addressed to haters, Abdulmanap said:
It’s for McGregor. They offered us 15 million for a rematch with McGregor. But why? 30, guys, 30.
“There are some other guys who deserve it and are waiting for Khabib. We should respect them as fighters. We should consider that as well – Poirier, Ferguson. Ferguson, I think fully deserves it. He’s number one sports-wise,” continued Nurmagomedov Sr.
“But if we want to attract the fans, make some money, hype it up, increase the following. It could be Diaz. The opportunity is there, we’ve got time to choose. Our task is to get prepared, perform and win. The promotion’s task is to prepare a new contract, which should consider our interests: one fight, wherever, whenever, whoever. We are making a choice and calling it a deal. If in Moscow — then in Moscow. In Sochi — then in Sochi. In St. Petersburg — then in St. Petersburg. In Ekaterinburg — sure,” concluded Abulmanap.
“Is Khabib’s manager Ali Abdelaziz aware of that?” Asked the journalist.
“If he doesn’t know, he will know by now,” came Abdulmanap’s reply.

South Korean short-track champion Shim Suk-hee has revealed that she was subjected to systematic physical abuse for more than 10 years in a court testimony given against her coach Cho Jae-beon.
The 21-year-old skater detailed horrific scenes from her training process, adding that the coach’s brutality resulted in numerous injuries, including broken bones and concussion.

“When I was in fourth grade, I suffered broken fingers after getting stuck by an ice hockey stick,” she said while attending an appeal trial at the Suwon District Court in South Korea.
Shim, who won three medals at the Sochi Olympics, said that her coach’s horrible attacks started when she was just eight, and lasted until the Pyeongchang Winter Games when the skater sustained a concussion after being hit in the head.
“Before the Pyeongchang Olympics, he kicked and punched me so hard that I thought I was going to die,” Shim said. “I had a concussion afterwards, and I fainted and fell down during the Olympics because of that,” she added.
Cho was sentenced to 10 months in prison in September for assaulting four short-track speed skaters, including Shim, but appealed the indictment denying all the allegations brought against him.

Kawhi Leonard appreciates his coach's support, but it came at cost.
Toronto Raptors coach Nick Nurse was fined $ 15,000 US by the NBA on Tuesday for comments he made to the media about officials following the Raptors' 95-86 loss in Denver on Sunday.
"It's great . . . he can see the game," Leonard told reporters after Tuesday's practice. "We're playing it and we might see it a certain way and we always feel like we're right on the floor, but when you have your coach watching it and seeing the same things you're feeling then it's great."
Nurse had lashed out at officials, saying he didn't understand why they were allowing opponents to "play one of the best players in the league so physically."
"It's been going on all year," Nurse said after the game. "But tonight was a very severe case of a guy who was playing great, taking it to the rim and getting absolutely held, grabbed, poked, slapped, hit and everything, and they refused to call any of it. It's unbelievable to me."
Watch: Is Kawhi to blame for Raptors' losses?
C.J. Miles said bigger, stronger players such as Leonard routinely take a beating because they're capable of playing through a lot of contact.
"Sometimes, getting hit, it might not look the same as if Freddy (VanVleet) went in there and got hit, but it's still a foul," Miles said.
He believes a vocal coach can translate to favourable calls on the floor.
"It helps. I played for Jerry Sloan [in Utah] and he talked to the referees in a way, I don't know how to put it, but definitely, they hear you," Miles said. "They're human beings, they make mistakes, the way you approach them, the way you talk to them definitely makes a difference."
Nurse said Tuesday that his comments were a long time coming.
"So I just thought it was time to do it. And . . . I'm gonna back my players," the coach said. "I don't mind physicality in the least. I don't mind it in the least, both ends of the floor."
Sunday's game at Denver capped a four-game western road trip that saw the Raptors go 2-2.
Despite the two losses, the Raptors (23-9) continue to lead the league. They host Indiana on Wednesday and Cleveland on Friday.
]]>After eight years as head coach, Hansen will quit after next year’s World Cup in Japan, ending an era of dominance unmatched anywhere.
It will open the door to the most sought after rugby coaching post in the game, one occupied by just two men since 2004 — Graham Henry and Hansen.
While former assistant Hansen succeeded Henry in a straightforward promotion, the 2020 appointment shapes as a dogfight.
NZ Rugby chairman Brent Impey confirmed recruitment won’t begin until Hansen departs, creating a “clear runway” for the best candidates.
Speculation has already thrown up offshore based Kiwi names such as Warren Gatland, Vern Cotter, Jamie Joseph and Dave Rennie.

Successful Irish mentor Joe Schmidt is seemingly out of the mix, promising to step down from coaching after the World Cup.
Double title winning Crusaders coach Scott Robertson might show some interest, along with Hansen’s long serving assistant Ian Foster.
While Hansen said Foster boasted the right credentials, he was reluctant to nominate a successor.
Instead, the 59-year-old wants to fix his sights on next year’s defence of the Webb Ellis Cup in Japan, relieved the same question won’t keep dogging him and that more time with his family is on the horizon.
Hansen has overseen the All Blacks during a period of unprecedented success, with just eight losses in his 96 Tests in charge.
Stepping aside will be painful but necessary.

“I’d like to coach this team for the rest of my living days but it’s not the right thing to do,” he said.
“It’s right for the team to have someone new after this World Cup, some fresh eyes, some fresh thinking.
“I’m focusing on making sure that we get to next year and we try to retain that Bledisloe Cup and try to do something that’s not been done before, which is win three of these World Cups in a row.
“I’m highly motivated by that.”
The former policeman enjoyed success with Canterbury and the Crusaders before taking charge of Wales for two years in 2002.
He was enticed home by Henry after John Mitchell was deposed as All Backs coach.
Hansen has overseen the career of some of world rugby’s finest players such as Richie McCaw and Dan Carter but it was an ability to maintain the All Blacks’ high standards after such players moved on that set him apart.
