“Bosses were shocked that somebody who has benefited so much from the show wants to walk away. But fame and fortune has obviously turned his head.

“He’s got a West End deal in place already and that’s going to take up most of his year so there was no persuading him to stay. His mind was made up,” they claimed.

During a conversation with BBC Radio 5 Live, Stacey opened up to host Nihal Arthanayake these suggestions and set the record straight, teasing what’s to come from Kevin.

Stacey replied sarcastically: “Kevin is obviously totally incapable of making decisions for himself, and so I swooped in.

Strictly 2019: Anton Du Beke and Kevin Clifton given new roles in major show shake-up https://briefnews.eu/strictly-2019-anton-du-beke-and-kevin-clifton-given-new-roles-in-major-show-shake-up/ https://briefnews.eu/strictly-2019-anton-du-beke-and-kevin-clifton-given-new-roles-in-major-show-shake-up/#respond Fri, 29 Nov 2019 14:45:14 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/strictly-2019-anton-du-beke-and-kevin-clifton-given-new-roles-in-major-show-shake-up/

Strictly Come Dancing is heading into musicals week as the contestants take on the 11th stage of the competition. The end is near and while the celebrities have been training hard, the pros have also been working on something rather special for their opening performance.

In true musical style, the celebrities partner’s will be dancing to the iconic Hello Dolly, on the BBC show.

And, Kevin Clifton and Anton Du Beke will not just be showing off their dancing techniques – but they’ll be singing too!

On Thursday night’s instalment of It Takes Two with Zoe Ball, the host gave viewers a sneak preview of what’s to come on Saturday night’s live show.

Zoe herself looked pretty excited as she introduced the footage, unable to hide a cheeky grin as she said: “Oo, it’s good!”

The video opened with Anton singing before Kevin came in with a louder note.

“Easy tiger,” Anton rolled his eyes as Kevin giggled.

Olivier award-winning choreographer Bill Deamer, has been putting the pros through their paces this week as they train for his “biggest” musical ever done on a Strictly live show.

“This is one of the biggest musicals I’ve ever worked on on Strictly,” he admitted.

“I’ve done quite a few, but this is huge.”

And, it seems the pros think the same.

“This has to be the most complex of dances we’ve done on Strictly in terms of steps and timings,” Aljaž Škorjanec confessed.

“There is so much going on in this routine,” Luba Mushtuk added.

However it seems like Anton has a little more work do before the big performance, that’s in less than two days.

“You’re going to sort of teach me a few things and show me the world,” Kevin suggested to his singing counterpart.

Taking his partners words seriously, Anton began singing the opening of their duet: “Out there,” he sang before stopping.

“What’s out there?” Kevin listened intently while they both looked out into the distance, pretending they were acting in the West End.

There was as short pause before Anton confessed: “I don’t know, I can’t remember the second line.”

Kevin roared with laughter as his fellow dancer looked worriedly into the camera lens.

Hopefully he’ll have learnt the tune by Saturday!

But we are yet to find out who will play the main character, Dolly, in the musical tribute, as Bill is keeping it very much under wraps until the weekend.

“I’ve always had a vision of doing Hello Dolly on Strictly,” he said.

“The question is, who’s going to be Dolly in our version? I’m not telling you!”

Well, viewers don’t have long to wait as the big performance is only a matter of hours away!

Strictly Come Dancing continues on Saturday on BBC.

Strictly Come Dancing: 'It was shock' Kevin Clifton drops Stacey Dooley winner bombshell https://briefnews.eu/strictly-come-dancing-it-was-shock-kevin-clifton-drops-stacey-dooley-winner-bombshell/ https://briefnews.eu/strictly-come-dancing-it-was-shock-kevin-clifton-drops-stacey-dooley-winner-bombshell/#respond Thu, 14 Mar 2019 10:36:38 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/strictly-come-dancing-it-was-shock-kevin-clifton-drops-stacey-dooley-winner-bombshell/

Strictly Come Dancing star Kevin joined Lorraine Kelly on her ITV chat show this morning to discuss his upcoming show All Star Musicals.

However it wasn’t long before talk turned to Kevin’s win on the popular BBC series alongside Stacey Dooley last year.

Lorraine commented: “You were so, what I love is your passion, you were so happy.”

“We just didn’t expect it,” Kevin explained. “We thought Joe Sugg and Dianne Buswell were going to win, we were convinced.”

“Joe was so good and so lovely,” he continued.

The 36-year-old went on to reveal the reason why he believed he and Stacey wouldn’t lift the coveted Glitterball trophy.

“We just thought that was that as we were bottom of the leaderboard at the end of the final,” Kevin noted.

“When Tess called out our names it was genuine shock. I dropped down to the floor and Stacey’s mum invaded the pitch.”

When asked if he had any ideas who his next partner would be, Kevin admitted he was keen to get Lorraine on the show.

“I reckon, I know you’ve been saying to me you’d never do that but I reckon I could teach you to dance,” Kevin said.

However, he noted he may not win as no professional has triumphed two years in a row.

“Not in a row no. Aliona has won the Glitterall twice but no one has done it twice in a row,” Kevin commented.

The star also opened up about his marriage with fellow professional dancer Karen, which came to an end last year.

“We’re really good friends,” he told the host.

“I think cause we’ve still been dancing together, we did a tour together and were both on Strictly.

“It didn’t have to be argumentative, we thought let’s stay friends and work through it. It’s all good, we’re all fine.

“You know you’re always going to have love for each other.”

Later on the show, Call The Midwife star Laura Main teased she could sign up for the next series.

She joked she wanted to partner up with Kevin in the hope of helping him to win again.

Lorraine airs weekdays on ITV at 8.30am.

Strictly Come Dancing 2019: Kevin Clifton fans fear star is quitting BBC show https://briefnews.eu/strictly-come-dancing-2019-kevin-clifton-fans-fear-star-is-quitting-bbc-show/ https://briefnews.eu/strictly-come-dancing-2019-kevin-clifton-fans-fear-star-is-quitting-bbc-show/#respond Tue, 26 Feb 2019 00:06:36 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/strictly-come-dancing-2019-kevin-clifton-fans-fear-star-is-quitting-bbc-show/

Kevin, 36, has appeared as a professional dancer on Strictly Come Dancing since he joined the BBC dance show in 2013, first partnered with Good Morning Britain host, Susanna Reid, 48.

After making it to the final of the competition four times previously, Kevin finally secured a win when he lifted the GlitterBall Trophy alongside partner Stacey Dooley, 31, in December last year.

However, fresh from his win, Kevin has revealed he is to take on a judging role for a new ITV series due to air later this year.

All Star Musicals will see seven famous faces take to the stage at the London Palladium to perform an iconic number from a variety of productions, all proving to be the musical star.

Kevin will be one of four judges, with singer Elaine Paige, 70, Broadway royalty Kristen Chenoweth, 50, as well as Aladdin star Trevor Dion Nicholas completing the line-up.

Posting about his new role on Twitter, Kevin wrote: “Delighted to announce I will be on the judging panel for All Star Musicals on ITV alongside Elaine Paige, @kchenoweth and @astonishingtrev.”

However, it has been revealed the series will be a one-off show and will be hosted by I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out Of Here! finalist, John Barrowman, 51.

Though Kevin’s announcement was still enough to throw some fans of the BBC dance show into panic as they took to social media to question whether this meant the professional would be the second to step down in as many weeks, following the news of Pasha’s, 39, exit.

One fan posted: “Does this mean you won’t be on Strictly @keviclifton????” commenting on the stars initial post.

Another added: “Please tell me, you’re not leaving Strictly?”

Express.co.uk have contacted a representative for Strictly and Kevin.

Speaking about the one-off role, Kevin said: “When I was asked if I would like to be a part of All Star Musicals, I was like ‘hell yeah’, but to be asked to be a part of the actual judging panel was another level.

“I am so excited to join the rest of the panellists and being honest, it will be nice to be on the other side of the desk for once.”

With Pasha definitely not returning to the professional ranks later this year, there has been speculation Neil Jones, 36, could finally be given the chance to be partnered with a celebrity in the shows regular series.

Neil was partnered with Countryfile presenter Anita Rani, 41, for last year’s Christmas special but with Pasha stepping down, the professional could finally star in the 2019 series.

Speaking about Neil’s chances of taking to the spotlight, Anita told Express.co.uk: “Everybody seems to know who he is.

“He’s such a big part of the programme, it would be great if Neil was given an opportunity,” the presenter revealed.

Giving her thoughts on Pasha’s exit, Anita added: “I’m really sad Pasha’s left though. Pasha was brilliant, absolutely brilliant. He will be a loss to the programme.”

Fellow professional AJ Pritchard, 24, has also spoken out about his future on the show during an appearance on This Morning last week.

AJ said: “The thing is, we’re all in the same situation. Like any contract, we wait until that phone call comes.

“Obviously, I’d love to be back. So when that phone call does come, fingers crossed, hopefully, it’s all good.”

Strictly Come Dancing 2018: ‘Very emotional’ Karen Clifton in TEARS by impressive Rhumba https://briefnews.eu/strictly-come-dancing-2018-very-emotional-karen-clifton-in-tears-by-impressive-rhumba/ https://briefnews.eu/strictly-come-dancing-2018-very-emotional-karen-clifton-in-tears-by-impressive-rhumba/#respond Sun, 02 Dec 2018 06:46:01 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/strictly-come-dancing-2018-very-emotional-karen-clifton-in-tears-by-impressive-rhumba/

Karen, 36, and Charles, 45, took to the dance floor to perform a Rhumba routine to the West Side Story soundtrack.

After their performance, Karen and Charles joined BBC host Tess Daly, 49, to hear the judges critiques on their Rhumba.

Shirley Ballas, 58, told the pair: “Well, in Latin dancing, there are three stages to the basic technique.”

Speaking directly to Karen, Shirley praised the professional, telling her: “You very cleverly put those advanced steps in their.”

The head judge continued: “I thought your hip action was great, I thought you had a sensitivity about putting your hand on her shoulder,” Shirley told Charles.

Bruno Tonioli, 62, then gave his comments on the performance, telling the couple: “I like the fact you made it very tender,” at which point Karen seemed to fill up at the comments.

“It was never pushed. You really balanced your partner,” Bruno continued.

Joining Claudia Winkleman, 46, after hearing the comments, the pair discovered the score they had been awarded for their efforts.

Karen and Charles found themselves joint bottom of the leaderboard after the Strictly quarter-final with a score of 35.

Faye Tozer, 42, topped the leaderboard with her Charleston routine, scoring a combined total of 40.

Earlier this week, Charles and Karen were speaking with Zoe Ball, 48, on spin-off show It Takes Two.

The pair managed to avoid the dance-off last weekend after receiving a score of 30 out of 40 by the judges for their Tango routine.

Instead, it was Ashley Roberts, 37, and Graeme Swann, 39, who faced the save me dance with the latter being eliminated from the competition.

Asking of his reaction after it was announced Ashley would be in the dance-off instead of him, Charles said: “They are technically the best dancers in the group.

“And you’re thinking okay, you know – I said: ‘I guess we better get ready to dance! You know, it’s on!’”

However, the Casualty actor believed they had got the names mixed up following the technical difficulties which arose during the Lindy Hop-a-thon.

Karen added: ““I said: ‘I think they got the wrong name.’”

Zoe explained: “The thing is, though, this is it: You never know with this competition.

“Everyone is voting for their favourite – that’s what happens.”

Charles and Karen will be hoping to secure their place in next week’s semi-final of the dancing competition.

Stacey Dooley: Strictly Come Dancing star given shock WARNING over Kevin Clifton 'kiss' https://briefnews.eu/stacey-dooley-strictly-come-dancing-star-given-shock-warning-over-kevin-clifton-kiss/ https://briefnews.eu/stacey-dooley-strictly-come-dancing-star-given-shock-warning-over-kevin-clifton-kiss/#respond Sun, 04 Nov 2018 12:46:53 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/stacey-dooley-strictly-come-dancing-star-given-shock-warning-over-kevin-clifton-kiss/

Stacey Dooley struggled to train for Strictly Come Dancing this week thanks to a painful rib injury, but luckily the 31-year-old knocked it out of the park with her Street and Commercial routine on last night’s BBC show.

Delivering a romantic and refreshing performance to Alicia Keys’ Empire State of Mind Part II, Stacey’s efforts sent the studio audience wild and even achieved a standing ovation from head judge Shirley Ballas.

The dance ended with an eyeopening moment which saw Kevin, 36, place his hat in front of their faces, leading some to believe the pair were about to share a theatrical kiss.

Instead, the sweet moment was a fitting end to the rousing performance and Kevin used the cover as a means of praising his dance partner for all of her hard work this week.

In the wake of the dance however, some viewers were unimpressed with the “pretend kiss”, and took to Twitter to warn the couple not to do it again.

This comes after former contestant and comedian Seann Walsh, 32, was publicly pictured kissing his professional dance partner Katya Jones, 29, who is married to fellow pro Neil Jones.

One person wrote: “Don’t kiss her behind the hat, Kevin; you know what happened to Seann. #Strictly.”

“Imagine tomorrow’s papers with what happens behind the hat #Strictly,” another worried.

A third guessed: “That hat was remarkably still then. I’m sensing someone shared a smooch #Strictly.”

Others praised the contestant for her ability to continue after battling her rib injury all week, while some were upset newscaster Kate Silverton’s similar journey wasn’t referenced in her VT.

“Stacey’s professionalism shows! #strictly,” one person enthused, followed by: “Stacey Dooley is such a beautiful and talented lady. We don’t see enough of her on TV. #Strictly #StrictlyComeDancing #Strictly2018.”

“Is it me or are they seriously pushing for a Stacey and Kevin win? I’m convinced at this point. The emotionally dramatic VTs, the overmarking, the constant praise, the ignoring faults, etc. #Strictly,” another criticised.

A fourth viewer added: “#Strictly Not sure about this… Kate has had to have injections because of a detached muscle from her ribs, is in constant pain and it’s only mentioned briefly in passing.

“Yet Stacey’s injury is heavily featured in her VT? Hoping that Audience manipulation isn’t at play here?”

According to The Mirror, Kevin could be heard telling Stacey he was “so proud” of her behind his hat.

The popular celebrity was forced to miss two days of rehearsals after being rushed to hospital with muscle pain.

Despite this, Stacey was eager to continue on, as she joked in her VT: “Get the kettle on Kev, I’ll see you in the training room.”

Former Pussycat Dolls singer Ashley Roberts and her partner Pasha Kovalev were top of the leaderboard when last night’s show came to a close.

Strictly Come Dancing continues tonight at 7.50pm on BBC One.

Appearing on ’s sister show It Takes Two last night, Ian, 47, was quick to pull up , 31, on her mistakes as he critiqued the couple’s rehearsal.

Joined by show host Zoe Ball, 47, the former Strictly professional did say Stacey was doing well but needed to work on a couple of things.

Stacey and her partner Kevin, 35, blew the judges away at the weekend when they performed a Quickstep as the characters from the movie Despicable Me.

However, Ian suggested the pair needed to be closer together for their upcoming dance as viewers were shown the couple in rehearsal.

As Zoe moved on to speak about Stacey, the host said: “Everybody loved their Minion Quickstep last week, they’ve got a Foxtrot this week, can she keep up that level of performance?

Ian then gave his critique, stating there were a few points the pair needed to work on before taking to the dance floor this weekend.

The dancer said: “There are three points I would like her to work on. Firstly, they’re gapping a lot, she needs to keep her body up to Kevin.

“Also, you can see she has this elbow up in the air, that needs to stay flat so we don’t get any lifting of the elbow, he continued as he referred to the footage.

Ian then added: “Then her head, she sometimes comes into Kevin a little bit, she needs to keep it out to that left hand side.

“Shape it, slide it across like lovely Joanne Clifton said the other day,” Ian concluded as he addressed Karen’s advice. “Then she’ll look gorgeous,” Ian added.

However, earlier in the segment, Ian did praise the couple and in particular Stacey’s footwork.

Referring to the footage, Ian said: “They’re just going though the steps here and it’s flowing nicely.”

Ian then surprised Zoe by saying: “I particular like her feet,” but then paused to laugh when he realised what he said.

The professional then repeated: “I particularly like her feet,” with Zoe teasing him, adding: “You love Stacey Dooley’s feet, secret’s out.”

Trying to move on from the humorous moment, Ian said: “The footwork is quite good.

“She is doing some really good heel leads there where they should be and the toes where they should be which is always the difficult thing in Foxtrot.”

Also on last night’s programme, Seann Walsh, 32, and Katya Jones, 29, spoke publicly for the first time about their kiss.

The Strictly couple were pictured kissing last week, with the images emerging in the media over the weekend.

Appearing on the show, the couple apologised again for their actions after taking to Twitter earlier in the week.

Seann said: “I think that obviously I’m sorry for the hurt I have caused.

“We were getting on well, we were having fun, we had a couple of drinks and made a huge mistake and regret it deeply.”

Katya added: “I apologise to everyone it hurt and it involved.”

Strictly Come Dancing continues Saturday at 6.40pm on BBC One, with it Takes Two airing weeknights on BBC Two at 6.30pm.

Karen and Kevin Clifton ‘unsure’ of Strictly Come Dancing return after confirming SPLIT https://briefnews.eu/karen-and-kevin-clifton-unsure-of-strictly-come-dancing-return-after-confirming-split/ https://briefnews.eu/karen-and-kevin-clifton-unsure-of-strictly-come-dancing-return-after-confirming-split/#respond Thu, 15 Mar 2018 09:20:12 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/karen-and-kevin-clifton-unsure-of-strictly-come-dancing-return-after-confirming-split/

The Strictly Come Dancing duo – who have been married for three years – have been plagued with split rumours for months, but appeared to be united as they broke the news together.

Kevin began: “Privately we are not together anymore but professionally we are stronger than ever before.”

He added: “Dance is how we came together and is what glues us together.

“We’re still the best of friends – we still have a lot of love and respect for each other.

“What we’ve found is that since we’ve been honest with each other it’s unlocked our creativity.”

Karen chipped in: “We have such strong chemistry and it’s about entertaining and inspiring. At the end of the day it’s about giving back to fans. We’re feeling very positive.”

Following Brendan Cole’s Strictly Come Dancing axe, Kevin and Karen revealed they haven’t been asked back either, but insisted there’s nothing to worry about.

Kevin explained: “We don’t know [if we’re retuning] yet. We get told a bit later on in the year.

He went on: “I hope so we both love the show so much. If they ask us back we’d both be delighted to come back.”

Despite their split, Karen and Kevin will still be proceeding with their joint tour, which kicks off in May.

Kevin first hinted at their martial woes last November, when he was eliminated from Strictly Come Dancing with his partner Susan Calman.

During his farewell speech, Kevin apologised to Karen and thanked her for “putting up with him”.

“When ‘Strictly’ is on I’m not the easiest person to live with, I go a bit mad so I’d like to say first of all thanks to my wife for putting up with me,” he said.

Later, Karen admitted that their marriage needed “work”.

“We’re just a regular couple,” she told The Sun. “We’ve been together for seven years and like any other relationship you have your ups and downs and nothing is ever perfect so you make it work.”

Though, she insisted that “everything is fine”.

She continued: “It adds a little bit of spark to the relationship and it just means that we care about each other.

“We just need to keep pushing and relationships take work, it’s not as easy as you think, especially being in a job like Strictly.”

Strictly Come Dancing stars were out in full force during last night’s BBC tribute to Sir Bruce Forsyth, which took place at the London Palladium on the night of the showbiz legend’s 90th birthday.

Amid the group of dancers that performed last night were Kevin and Karen, who were seen on stage for the first time since Strictly aired last year.

Plagued with rumours of a rift within their marriage since the end of 2017, the pair were often seen dancing with other professional dancers during the Strictly live shows last season.

However these claims were seemingly dashed last night, as they took to the floor together in good spirits.

The performance began with a tap dance routine, which was swiftly followed by Strictly pros to perform to the theme songs from TV shows Sir Bruce hosted throughout his career spanning seven decades.

In turn, Karen, Kevin and other Strictly stars performed to the show’s theme song.

The pair were joined by Oti Mabuse and Pasha Kovalev.

Last month, Karen, 35, posted on both Twitter and Instagram with a photo of herself dancing with Kevin.

She wrote: “Starting the day off with a kickball change along with @keviclifton @KevinKarenDTour #kevinandkarentour2018.”

Karen and Kevin married in 2015 and are expected to return to Strictly Come Dancing this year.

Last night also saw Dame Shirley Bassey perform, leaving viewers floored as they discovered her age.

One fan wrote: “Dame Shirley, she’s still got it, at 81. Puts todays ‘singers’ to shame #sirbruceacelebration.”

Strictly Come Dancing 2018: Karen Clifton on Shirley Ballas’ return amid EXIT rumours https://briefnews.eu/strictly-come-dancing-2018-karen-clifton-on-shirley-ballas-return-amid-exit-rumours/ https://briefnews.eu/strictly-come-dancing-2018-karen-clifton-on-shirley-ballas-return-amid-exit-rumours/#respond Sun, 21 Jan 2018 03:07:24 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/strictly-come-dancing-2018-karen-clifton-on-shirley-ballas-return-amid-exit-rumours/

The 57-year-old head judge became a TV favourite this series due to her refreshingly sharp but honest comments, though it was claimed that the overwhelm from being in the spotlight was deterring her from signing up for another series.

Karen, who was partnered with during the latest series of , explained that her time off has been hectic, but she has had a nice break.

Speaking exclusively to Express.co.uk, Karen said: “Yeah I’ve managed to recover a little bit. I mean, I’m still quite wobbly but yeah I’m getting back on my feet which is great.”

Discussing Shirley, Karen revealed she is hopeful for a return due to the impact she had with her critique.

Karen, 35, gushed: “It was a fantastic show and yeah, Shirley. Shirley was ace!

“I loved the way that she was real and just kind of told it how it was and obviously she knows exactly what she’s watching.

“So you really trusted her. I mean I did definitely. I just loved everything about her which was great.

“She was a great addition for the show this year. I really hope [she comes back]. I hope everybody comes back. We should do the series all over again.”

Husband and fellow professional dancer Kevin Clifton is currently starring in the Strictly Come Dancing live tour, which Karen hopes to see once “everything has calmed down”.

Karen explained: “Oh definitely! I’m just waiting for everything to calm down and for them to get on the road but I’m definitely looking forward to seeing it. Especially when it comes to London! That’s when it gets really intense.”

The pair will begin their own tour called Kevin & Karen Dance later this year.

She continued: “Kevin and I are starting our tour in May. We start rehearsals in early May and kick off on May 22 and we go till the end of July. So it’s really exciting for us.

“Right now I’m in the process of creating everything. Putting all the costumes, makeup, dancers together, so I’m definitely keeping busy.”

Appealing directly to fans of the show, Karen pleaded that those interested in dance should “just do it” and “not be afraid”.

Karen added: “It’s baby steps. The first thing is to just go and do it. So don’t be afraid. When you find a good teacher and a great group of people you’ll start feeling like you’re part of it. But the first thing is to just go out there and just do it.”
