Demetrius Grosse, who guest-starred during Season 1 of ABC’s The Rookie, says it was a “very challenging time” between when Afton Williamson publicly ID’d him in her allegations of sexual harassment and when an independent investigation this week concluded that no one named in the actress’ complaints acted “in an unlawful manner or demonstrate[d] behavior inappropriate for the workplace.”

In an Aug. 4 Instagram post, after TVLine reported that she would not be returning for Season 2, Williamson alleged that she had experienced “sexual harassment from a recurring guest star,” whom she later identified as Grosse. She claimed that she was at first told that Grosse would be fired, only to eventually learn that not only was that not the case, but that showrunner Alexi Hawley never involved human resources in her complaints (which also included allegations of “racial discrimination/racially charged inappropriate comments from the hair department”).

A third-party, independent investigation was ordered by production studio eOne, and it concluded on Sept. 17 that after examining “nearly 400 hours of interviews and review of evidence, involving a significant amount of material, including video, “those identified in Ms. Williamson’s allegations did not conduct themselves in an unlawful manner or demonstrate behavior inappropriate for the workplace. It was also concluded that the executive producers, including showrunner Alexi Hawley, addressed matters of which they were made aware promptly and in a fair and reasonable manner.”

“As you can imagine, it’s been a very challenging time,” Grosse shared Friday on Twitter. “I am grateful to my family, friends and colleagues who have been so supportive. I will continue to be an assertive advocate for the respect, acknowledgment and advancement for women both in and out of the workplace. Blessings.”

Prior to his run on The Rookie, Grosse’s TV credits included Justified, Banshee, The Brave and Game of Silence.

Earlier in the week, Grosse’s attorney released a statement (cited by our sister site Variety) that read: “Demetrius Grosse was wrongfully accused and has been exonerated of the alleged misconduct regarding his work on The Rookie…. My client was libeled all over the media before any of the claims could even be verified. No one should publish serious allegations like these in such a reckless manner. Demetrius lost multiple jobs as a result of being falsely accused. We’re glad that the investigation has been completed and are grateful to eOne for its unwavering support. Onward.”

  • Ethics officials at the Department of Justice have reportedly advised Acting Attorney General Matthew Whitaker that he does not need to recuse himself from overseeing the Russia probe. 
  • Whitaker, who has been leading the DOJ since Jeff Sessions’ departure in early November, has been scrutinized over his frequent criticisms of the probe and Mueller’s authority.
  • Before joining the DOJ, he argued in the media that Mueller’s investigation had “gone too far,” that Trump could shut down the probe by defunding it, and that a president cannot be guilty of obstruction of justice. 

Ethics officials at the Department of Justice have advised Acting Attorney General Matthew Whitaker that he does not need to recuse himself from overseeing special counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 election, CNN’s Laura Jarrett reported Thursday. 

Whitaker, who has been leading the DOJ since Jeff Sessions’ departure in early November, has been scrutinized over his frequent criticisms of the probe and Mueller’s authority. After Sessions recused himself from overseeing the investigation in spring of 2017, it’s been under the authority of Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein.

UFC star Jon Jones has been cleared to return to action after being handed a backdated 15-month suspension by USADA for failing a drug test last summer.

Jones, 31, will be eligible to return to the octagon from October 28, having been suspended since testing positive for a banned substance ahead of his bout against Daniel Cormier at UFC 214 in July 2017.

Jones won the fight, but the result was later changed to a no contest and he was stripped of the light-heavyweight title.

He had potentially been facing a ban of up to four years, although the US Anti-Doping Agency (USADA) said in a statement that an independent arbitrator had found that Jones was “not intentionally cheating.”     

“The independent arbitrator found that Jon Jones was not intentionally cheating in this case,” USADA chief executive Travis T. Tygart said in the statement.

“While we thought 18 months was the appropriate sanction given the other circumstances of the case, we respect the arbitrator’s decision and believe that justice was served,” he added.

Jones himself expressed his delight at the verdict, writing on Instagram:

“It’s difficult to express myself at this moment, but I can definitely say my heart is filled with gratitude and appreciation. 

“I want to thank all of you who have stood by me during the toughest stretch of my life. It has meant the world to me and always will.

“But now is the time to shift the focus front and centre to the road ahead.

“Greatness is what I’m chasing and the path to reclaiming my throne is now officially open. Comeback season begins now.”

The suspension is Jones’ second, after he was sanctioned for testing positive for a banned substance in 2016.

He is in theory eligible to return as early as  UFC 230 on November 3 at Madison Square Garden in New York, although UFC chief Dana White has reportedly ruled that out, saying that a 2019 comeback is more likely.

Jones has previously told RT of his goal to return to face Cormier and relinquish him of his light-heavyweight and heavyweight titles.

A hearing for Ben Currie is scheduled for August 13 when he faces charges emanating from the Weetwood day activities and other matters.

Queensland Racing Integrity Commissioner Ross Barnett said it was important to be transparent about the test results that had now been cleared of prohibited substances, but also pointed out it is a separate matter from the allegations of race-day treatment.

“I want to make it clear that treating a horse on race-day with any medication, prohibited or not, without the permission of the stewards is a breach of the Australian Rules of Racing,” he said.

Prizemoney earnt by the horses in question, including Toowoomba Guineas winner Hang, has been paid.

The Syrian Army has announced that it has lifted the militant blockade of a major highway connecting Damascus to the rest of the country. A Ruptly drone has captured the destruction wrought by seven years of fighting.

The army said it has liberated all of the settlements in the Damascus suburb of Eastern Ghouta from militant forces, and restored government control of the area. In the most recent development, the Russian Reconciliation Center, which is assisting in restoring stability, reported having negotiated a deal with Jaysh al-Islam, the last major militant group in the region, to start evacuating from the town of Douma.

Syrian troops started their major push on Eastern Ghouta in February, aiming to unseat a militant occupation that had been in place since 2012. AUSTRALIAN Test bad boys Steve Smith, David Warner and Cameron Bancroft will be sent home from South Africa, with “significant sanctions” set to revealed in the next 24 hours.

Cricket Australia boss James Sutherland revealed that the captain, vice-captain and ball-tamperer Bancroft were the masterminds behind the Third test plot.

Sutherland refused to answer whether Smith will captain Australia again, if Warner would play again or whether the players “cheated”.

He also declared that coach Darren Lehmann was not involved and would coach on, refuting that he had offered his resignation.

Sutherland promised that “significant punishments” were imminent, but CA were not yet in a position to make a verdict.

Matt Renshaw, Glenn Maxwell and Joe Burns have been drafted into the squad for the fourth Test starting Friday, with Tim Payne set to captain the side in Johannesburg.

A nervous Sutherland hinted at lengthy bans during a press conference at his Johannesburg hotel.
