The old £10 note will cease to be legal tender from 1 March 2018, the Bank of England has confirmed. After this date, the old notes will only be able to be exchanged at the Bank of England. They have been in circulation since 7 November 2000 and feature a portrait of Charles Darwin. A new polymer £10 note was introduced on 14 September this year, and will become the only legal ten pound note once the old style disappears. Charles Darwin did not make it onto the updated note, and was replaced with Jane Austin. Over one billion new £10 notes were printed ready for issue back in September. Speaking about the new note at the time, BofE governor Mark Carney said: “The new £10 note celebrates Jane Austen’s work. Austen’s novels have a universal appeal and speak as powerfully today as they did when they were first published. “The new £10 will be printed on polymer, making it safer, stronger and cleaner. “The note will also include a new tactile feature on the £10 to help the visually impaired, ensuring the nation’s money is as inclusive as possible.” Polymer notes are being introduced across the board by the Bank of England as a way to reduce forgery. The new notes are also said to be indestructible, and it is hoped they will last significantly longer than their predecessors. They also have a tactile feature to help blind and partially sighted people identify them. Around 55 per cent of £10 notes currently in circulation are the polymer version, while the remaining 359 million are paper ‘old style’ notes. The £5 note has already been completely switched over to the new version, with the old style being taken out of circulation in May. Winston Churchill features on the new £5 note, while prison reformer Elizabeth Fry was on the old note. At the time, many major banks and building societies confirmed that customers could continue to deposit old £5 notes after the cut-off date, so the same may happen for the £10 note. Four designs were made to celebrate the Commonwealth Games in 2002, with one for England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland. The most sought-after of the four designs is the coin designed for England, but it can be hard to spot it among a pile of change. This is because the four coins feature the same design with only the flag to tell them apart. The England coin is nearly identical to the Northern Irish version, with the only mark of difference being the small “Red Hand of Ulster” on the NI coin. ChangeChecker.org, coin experts, now rank the England coin at the top of the £2 coin scarcity index, making it the most sought after £2. This has seen prices soar on eBay, where collectors have been selling the coin for about 16 times its value at £32. By comparison, other rare two pound coins usually fetch around £6 to £8 when sold on. The rare £2 coin is not the only sterling to keep an eye out for at the moment – a Beatrix Potter 50p coin featuring Jemima Puddleduck is worth £400. Beatrix Potter, a beloved British author, was honoured with a set of coins featuring some of her most popular characters, including the bonnet wearing goose Jemima Puddle-Duck. Many collectors are after the whole set – that includes Squirrel Nutkin, Mrs Tiggy-Winkle and Peter Rabbit. This means some of the rarer coins are worth even more as fans aim to collect them all. Some people are paying up to £400 for the coin, according to a financial expert. The Peter Rabbit coin has proved most popular but the desire to have the whole set means the rarest coin is fast becoming the most expensive. If you aren’t sure if your pound coin is worth anything, this is how to find out its value. With the launch of the new 12-sided £1 coin back in March, coin collectors have been desperate to snap up coins missing from their collection, as the old £1 coins get taken out of circulation. A full list of the most rare £1 coins can be found on ChangeChecker.org. The new £1 coin has now been in circulation for just less than four months, and experts at Changechecker.org have revealed the rise in interest for old £1 coins could be driving up the interest of some coin Though digital subscriptions are surging for the largest US newspapers, estimated industry circulation and revenue fell overall, the Pew Research Center found. Americans now read newspapers at levels not seen since 1945, but there’s growth in cable news. Among the findings are US newspaper circulation, including print and digital, fell 8 percent in 2016 for both weekday and Sunday editions to 35 million and 38 million readers, respectively, the study estimates. “[T]he lowest levels since 1945,” Pew said, in its annual study on the “state of the news media,” released Thursday. Weekday print circulation decreased 10 percent and Sunday newspaper readership fell 9 percent. “Newspapers are a critical part of the American news landscape, but they have been hard hit as more and more Americans consume news digitally,” Pew said. “The industry’s financial fortunes and subscriber base have been in decline since the early 2000s, even as website audience traffic has grown for many. Meanwhile, alt-weekly papers have also seen their circulation drop.” Pew stated that digital circulation is more difficult to gauge, it estimated trends to be fairly flat, with weekday down 1 percent and Sunday up 1 percent. “Following last year’s presidential election, some major US newspapers reported a sharp jump in digital subscriptions, giving a boost to their overall circulation totals,” Pew researcher Michael Barthel said in a statement. “The newspaper industry as a whole, however, faced ongoing challenges in 2016.” The primary reason is that “more and more Americans consume news digitally,” the report explained. Among the study’s other findings are that three of the largest US daily newspapers reported a jump in digital subscriptions, with the New York Times adding more than 500,000 digital subscriptions in 2016, a 47 percent rise; the Wall Street Journal added more than 150,000 digital subscriptions, a 23 percent rise; and the Chicago Tribune added about 100,000 weekly digital circulation, a 76 percent year-on-year gain. In a commentary on WGBH in 2016, Dan Kennedy, an associate professor of journalism at Northeastern University, said the biggest obstacle for attracting readers is that customers are already paying hundreds of dollars a month for broadband, cell service and their various digital devices. “It’s not crazy for them to think that the content should come included with that, as it does (for the most part) with their monthly cable bill,” said Kennedy. “Those who wag their fingers that newspapers never should have given away their content overlook the reality that customers had none of those extra expenses back when their only option was to pay for the print edition.” Kennedy said the paywalls also interfere with how people now consume news, skipping around the internet, checking with multiple sources. “To wall off content runs contrary not just to what news consumers want but to the sharing culture of the internet,” he added. Pew said circulation data is estimated because the industry has stopped releasing data about print editions, and there are varying standards in reporting digital readership. Total estimated newspaper industry advertising revenue for 2016 was $ 18 billion, a decrease of 10 percent from 2015, and just one-third the level of 10 years ago, based on Pew’s analysis for financial statements for publicly traded newspaper companies. Circulation revenue was estimated at $ 11 billion, largely unchanged from 2015. For cable news, 2016 was a year of strong gains, and became “the destination for political news,” especially in 2016 during the presidential election, Pew found. “These channels have generally set themselves apart from other news media by their comparatively robust business model,” Pew said. Its analysis of Nielsen Media data found that viewership increased for cable news channels in 2016 in prime time by 55 percent to 4.8 million viewers. Total revenue across the three major channels, Fox, CNN and MSNBC, was projected to increase by 19 percent in 2016, to a total of nearly $ 5 billion, according to Pews’s analysis of SNL Kagan data. Revenue for three major financial networks (CNBC, Fox Business and Bloomberg) saw increases in total and license fee revenue, while ad revenue was flat. Cable news could take a hit in 2017 as a new poll released on May 24 showed that nearly two-thirds of US voters believe that the mainstream media is producing so-called “fake news.” Many also believe that fake news is purposely published to push an agenda. Fox News appears to be hurt the most by viewers’ mistrust. Across the political spectrum, 65 percent of voters believe there is a lot of fake news in the mainstream media, including 80 percent of Republicans, 60 percent of independents and 53 percent of Democrats, according to the latest Harvard-Harris poll provided exclusively to The Hill. In total, 84 percent of voters said it is hard to know what news to believe online. Those numbers have increased since the end of March, when six in 10 Americans believed the mainstream media report fake news regularly or occasionally, with 54 percent thinking that online news websites report fake stories on purpose to push an agenda, according to a Monmouth University poll. A whopping 80 percent of respondents believed that online outlets report fake news regularly or occasionally. Suspicious Sainsbury’s vouchers offering customers £75 off their shop have emerged online. The vouchers, which read “Sainsbury’s is giving free £75 vouchers to EVERYONE on their anniversary”, are being shared on Facebook, as well as other social media channels. But the supermarket giant has confirmed the vouchers are not real and cannot be redeemed in stores or online. At the bottom of the online post it says “SAINSBURYS-u98c59z.ukvoucher.us”, which is a format that has been replicated across other high street shops, such as Asda, John Lewis and Morrisons. Terms which feature on the coupon include ‘1 coupon per person’ and feature expiry dates which may appear genuine. Customers are now being warned by the supermarket not to click on any suspicious links or promotions without thoroughly looking in to it. Any doubts, contact the supermarket directly. Other email addresses to watch out for, include: ASDA.COM-SPECIAL.US JOHNLEWIS-P65V6OD.OWSUM.US WWW.MORRISONS-K8Q96N.MYCARTONS.US ARGOS.COM.TVADS.US A Sainsbury’s spokesperson told Express.co.uk: “We’re aware of the issue and are advising customers to delete the message.” Any customers sure what to do, call Sainsbury’s Careline on 0800 636 262. An Action Fraud spokesman told Mirror Money: “Fraudsters will do everything they can to try and take personal and financial details from their victims. It is extremely tempting to click on links for vouchers whilst browsing on social media. “However we ask people to be wary of clicking on unsolicited links and advise that they do their research first, before giving away any personal or financial details.” A fake Aldi voucher emerged back in March. The supermarket had to urge customers not to be fooled by a fake £85 voucher scam. An Aldi spokesperson told Express.co.uk: “The hoax £65 Aldi vouchers being circulated online are fraudulent and cannot be redeemed in stores. “We have not and would never ask customers to submit personal information via a website in return for vouchers. “We advise customers to ignore these adverts and not to share any personal information.”
Revenues also demonstrate a downward trend.
The three channels were projected to grow their profits in 2016, a combined 29 percent.

Shoppers will have just six months to spend their old one pound coins after the new version is introduced in March.
The old coins will cease to be legal tender on October 15 and the government is now warning those with stacks of loose change sitting in savings jars or piggy banks to spend them or lose them.

The second rarest coin is the Cardiff £1 coin, which entered circulation in 2011.

The third rarest is the England £1, and like the Edinburgh and Cardiff editions, was designed by Stuart Devlin, Goldsmith and Jeweller to the Queen.
There were 2,635,000 minted in 2010, and one is currently selling for £33.95 on eBay.
The next rarest is the Royal Arms £1, minted in 2008.

This particular design, which could easily be confused with the Coat of Arms £1 coin issued in 2015, is selling for £22.95 on eBay.
The new £1 coin, the hardest yet to counterfeit, is the first to be introduced since 1983.
Almost three percent of coins are fake, and it’s illegal to use one – although it’s fairly likely you have handled one at some point, given the amount of sterling that passes through our fingers.
Royal Mint has asked people to hand in fake coins – but you won’t get a legal tender back, so make sure not to pick up a worthless fake with these guidelines from Royal Mint.
Check to see if the coin is a different colour than is normal, this is a hint it has been made from different materials.
Make sure the designs on either side are alined. The designs should both be upright in the same manner.
If the ridges on the edge of the coin are not well defined it may be a fake.
If the coin is very shiny but the date claims it is very old it is likely to be a fake too.
For the eagle eyed among you, you may notice the date and design on the reverse don’t match or that the letters on the outside of the coin don’t match the date.

Ms Britton explained: “We think that having a complete collection of old pound coins – one of each 25 designs – will be great for collectors.
