Weight loss: Drink this much apple cider vinegar to lose 8 pounds in ONE week https://briefnews.eu/weight-loss-drink-this-much-apple-cider-vinegar-to-lose-8-pounds-in-one-week/ https://briefnews.eu/weight-loss-drink-this-much-apple-cider-vinegar-to-lose-8-pounds-in-one-week/#respond Thu, 30 Aug 2018 17:06:25 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/weight-loss-drink-this-much-apple-cider-vinegar-to-lose-8-pounds-in-one-week/

Apple cider vinegar has been used for cooking and to treat ailments for thousands of years.

Moving away from just flavouring food, the liquid is now being used as a method for weight loss, with studies proving just how effective it can be.

When drunk every day, apple cider vinegar can blast belly fat, decrease body fat percentage and melt away fat.

But just how much apple cider vinegar should you drink, and how should you drink it?

How does it work?

Apple cider vinegar helps speed up weight loss in many ways, one being that it speeds up the metabolism.

A recent study showed that drinking apple cider vinegar boosts fat burning and decreases fat and sugar production in the liver.

Another way it helps blast fat is by reducing fat storage, by increasing the number of genes that reduce belly fat storage.

Apple cider vinegar also burns fat by increasing the body’s amount of fat burning genes and suppresses the appetite.

How much to drink

According to Healthline.com, the optimum amount of apple cider vinegar to consume daily is one-two tablespoons (15-30ml).

It is best to spread the amount into two-three doses a day and is best to consume before meals.

Other benefits of adding apple cider vinegar into your diet include controlling blood sugar levels, lowering cholesterol, helping with PCOS and fighting off bacteria and viruses.

Another thing that apple cider vinegar can help with is controlling sugar cravings.

Scientists have discovered consuming small amounts of this vinegar will help to stabilise blood sugar, which is linked to reducing cravings.

In one Swedish study, test subjects who ate white bread – a kind of fast-release carbohydrate – with vinegar were compared to those who ate white bread without the vinegar.

Those who consumed the vinegar with the bread had significantly reduced blood sugar responses compared to those who did not.

Bestival: How cider, yoga and live music at a festival can help save endangered species https://briefnews.eu/bestival-how-cider-yoga-and-live-music-at-a-festival-can-help-save-endangered-species/ https://briefnews.eu/bestival-how-cider-yoga-and-live-music-at-a-festival-can-help-save-endangered-species/#respond Mon, 27 Aug 2018 05:50:37 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/bestival-how-cider-yoga-and-live-music-at-a-festival-can-help-save-endangered-species/

New Zealand drinks company Old Mout Cider is trying to save the vulnerable creature and raise awareness of the kiwi’s plight in Britain. All we needed to do when we headed to Bestival earlier this month… was drink.

Old Mout Cider had set up a Kiwi Camp at the festival which became a refuge to revellers looking for some downtime in between the impressive music acts (think Grace Jones, London Grammar, a Chaka Khan and much much more).

When you entered the camp for the first time you pressed your thumb into a pad of ink and daubed your print against the doorway – thus donating 20p to the kiwi cause.

The Kiwi Camp wasn’t just about giving though – plenty of rewards were to be reaped. Crucially for any festival-goer, it offered free glitter and face painting – particularly handy when other stalls in the grounds charged you a small fortune.

They also provided disco yoga, which was exactly what the doctor ordered after a heavy night of partying and hours of standing up. As we extended ourselves into downward dogs, warriors and sun salutations, we bopped along to the Pina Colada Song and other chirpy classics. It was the morning stretching session you never knew you needed.

For those keen to continue listening to live music, however, there was also a band who performed, playing entirely on recycled items – traffic cones, milk cartons, shopping trolleys, you name it. And they were surprisingly good.

After all, recycling is the name of the game at Kiwi Camp. Yes, they quite literally did make it into a game. You had to collect as many iron-on patches as you could in the camp to be in with a chance of winning a denim jacket – as the activity was oddly addictive.

The patches were earned by recycling your can around the camp. You could crush it by hand with a giant lever (which was harder than it looked after a few ciders!) or cycle a bike attached to a machine that would crush it. Who knew crushing small, colourful cans would be quite so satisfying.

They also encouraged you to take an Old Mout branded bin bag and recycle throughout your festival weekend. At one point a girl stopped me and practically tried to wrestle my still full can off me, so disappointed was she that I couldn’t contribute my beverage to her recycling bag.

You could also turn up to the Kiwi Camp and do very little. There were plenty of cosy seats – all beautifully arranged to make the perfect photo setting – and even a hammock for those completely tired out from the festivities. My friends and I even ended up playing Jenga at one point as we took a rest from the music.

Despite the term ‘camp’ you can’t actually sleep in the Kiwi Camp – that we did in the boutique camping field away from the main hub of action with Eve’s Tipis.

Having never tried glamping before, I was thrilled to stay in a tipi, where not only could we stand up but there were also mattresses, duvets, pillows and a rug.

You pretty much guaranteed a good night sleep and you also had access to far nicer toilets which were kept fairly clean and always had loo roll – neither of which are assured at music festivals normally! Showers too were available – although there was a rather long queue in the morning.

Boutique camping also gave you access to a VIP area near the main stage. There was a big bar, a burger stand, plenty of seating and…more posh loos. It was ideal if you wanted to be sure of a comfortable spot away from the vast hordes thrashing in front of the stage. However, if you want to be part of the classic festival experience and in among the jubilant crowds, it probably isn’t for you.

As a whole, the festival appeared incredibly friendly – even if the staff seemed mostly incapable of pointing you in the right direction for anything. It was a riot of colour – vibrant flags fluttering against the blue of the sky, gaudy fancy dress left, right and centre, and giant structures daubed in bright hues – a giant robot, a huge disco ball and the colourful big top tent.

As a backdrop to it all stood Lulworth Castle, a17th-century hunting lodge turned country house. It was a spectacular building – albeit juxtaposed to the very 21st century-style revelry taking place around it.

Although unfortunately closed during Bestival, the castle was used ingeniously during the spectacular firework display on the Saturday night.

While hundreds of fireworks burst from the turrets, splattering red, golds and silvers across the night sky, its old stone walls served as a projector for an impressive light display.

And so we prepared to party the night away – be it next to giant boat dubbed HMS Bestival or in front of a huge mock temple complete with statues of Indian gods emitting pumping music and flashing lights.

While our livers might not have thanked us for the cider we had poured into our bodies, or our muscles for the endless dancing, at least we knew we’d done our bit to save the Kiwi over the course of the weekend. The bird, not the fruit.

Arthritis: Can taking apple cider vinegar ease joint pain and relieve other symptoms? https://briefnews.eu/arthritis-can-taking-apple-cider-vinegar-ease-joint-pain-and-relieve-other-symptoms/ https://briefnews.eu/arthritis-can-taking-apple-cider-vinegar-ease-joint-pain-and-relieve-other-symptoms/#respond Fri, 06 Jul 2018 20:16:51 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/arthritis-can-taking-apple-cider-vinegar-ease-joint-pain-and-relieve-other-symptoms/

Arthritis is reported to affect around 10 million people in the UK, according to the NHS, affecting people of all ages.

There are many different types of the condition, but almost all cause pain and inflammation in a joint.

Painkillers are often advised to help slow down the condition, but diet can also play an important part in treating arthritis.

Eating healthily will give you all the nutrients you need and help you maintain a healthy weight, which helps put less pressure on your joints.

Eating a variety of foods from all five food groups – fruit and vegetables, starchy foods, meat, fish, eggs and beans, milk and dairy foods, and foods containing fat and sugar – is the best way to do this.

But some experts also believe adding apple cider vinegar to your diet can help.

Many people have claimed apple cider vinegar’s antioxidant beta carotene and acetic acid content produces miraculous effects in easing arthritis pain.

But there has been little research carried out to support this.

Lona Sandon, a registered dietician who has rheumatoid arthritis, says apple cider vinegar should remain in the kitchen and not be moved to the medicine chest.

Speaking to Arthritis Foundation, the assistant professor at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas, she said: “Some people contend beta-carotene in apple cider vinegar destroys free radicals involved in ravaging the immune system, but the amount of beta-carotene in the vinegar is infinitesimal.

“Others say acid crystals cause joints to become stiff and vinegar dissolves them.

“Gout is the only form of arthritis that involves crystals – uric acid crystals, formed form an excess of uric acid in the body – and cider vinegar doesn’t relieve gout pain.”

Apple cider vinegar has been found to have a host of other benefits.

It is best consumed mixed with water as a drink, too much can be harmful and even dangerous.

This is according to Health Line, which lists the side effects for over consuming the health drink.

One of these is erosion of tooth enamel.

Acidic foods and beverages have been shown to damage tooth enamel.

One study the website sites involved enamel from wisdom teeth being immersed in different vinegars with pH levels ranging form 2.7 to 3.95.

The vinegars led to a 1 to 20 per cent loss of minerals from the teeth after four hours.

The most common types of arthritis are osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis.

Osteoarthritis is the most common type of arthritis in the UK and many people experience it in their knee.

It’s not possible to prevent osteoarthritis and there is currently no cure available. But treatment is available to help reduce symptoms – the sooner the disease is recognised, the sooner you can receive treatment.

So what are the symptoms of osteoarthritis in your knees to look out for?

There are five main symptoms, according to Arthritis Research UK. The first is pain, particularly when you’re moving your knee or at the end of the day. This usually gets better when you rest.

How to take apple cider vinegar for weight loss: Add it to this condiment to shed pounds https://briefnews.eu/how-to-take-apple-cider-vinegar-for-weight-loss-add-it-to-this-condiment-to-shed-pounds/ https://briefnews.eu/how-to-take-apple-cider-vinegar-for-weight-loss-add-it-to-this-condiment-to-shed-pounds/#respond Sat, 03 Mar 2018 13:59:08 +0000 http://briefnews.eu/how-to-take-apple-cider-vinegar-for-weight-loss-add-it-to-this-condiment-to-shed-pounds/

Apple cider vinegar has been proven to aid weight loss, help fight diabetes, lower cholesterol and reduce the risk of heart disease.

When it comes to taking apple cider vinegar for weight loss, it’s recommended you take one to two tablespoons of apple cider vinegar per day to reap the full benefits.

It also suggests spreading it out into two to three doses throughout the day and drinking it before meals.

But how is best to take apple cider vinegar?

Many people who take apple cider vinegar prefer to dilute it in water and drink it as a beverage.

But if the sour taste worries you, there are some alternative methods for taking it.

Healthline says the best way to incorporate it in your diet is to use it in your cooking.

In salad dressing is one idea, but it also suggests adding it to a homemade mayonnaise.

So how can you make a health homemade mayonnaise using apple cider vinegar?

Wellness Mama offers this quick and easy recipe.

Ingredients

  • Four egg yolks
  • 1 tbsp of mustard
  • 1 tbsp of apple cider vinegar
  • Salt and pepper
  • 2/3 cups of olive oil
  • 2/3 cups of Coconut oil

Method

  1. Put egg yolks into a blender or bowl and whisk/blend until smooth.
  2. Add the apple cider vinegar, mustard and spices and blend it until mixed.
  3. Slowly add oil while blending or whisking at a low speed, starting with olive oil. Start with a drop at a time until it starts to emulsify and then keep adding it slowly until all the oil is incorporated.
  4. You can then store it in a fridge up to one week.

Why does apple cider help with weight loss?

Studies have found that apple cider vinegar helps you to lose weight because of the acid in the liquid, known as acetic acid.

The acid increases an enzyme AMPK, which scientists claim increases fat burning and decreases fat and sugar production.

Another study has found that people who drank a tablespoon of cider vinegar in water had lower glucose levels.

Are there any side effects to taking apple cider vinegar?

Heartburn describes the burning sensation in the chest caused by stomach acid moving up the throat – known as acid reflux – according to the NHS.

The condition can cause an unpleasant taste or bitter fluid at the back of the throat.

Bad breath and chest pain are also signs of heartburn.

But, taking apple cider vinegar everyday could prevent heartburn, according to nutritionist Cassandra Burns.

“Contrary to what you may have thought, it’s more common to have too little stomach acid than too much,” said Burns.

“Having low stomach acid can cause many of the problems that people associate with indigestion, including burping, nausea and even heartburn symptoms.

“Taking a tablespoon of apple cider vinegar in a small amount of water before a meal can help to balance stomach acid levels.

“However, do not try this if you are already taking a prescribed medication to reduce stomach acid.”

Certain foods could also increase your risk of heartburn symptoms.

Red wine, cheese, oranges, peppermint and nuts could all trigger the condition.

Alcohol irritates the stomach by increasing the amount of acid it produces, and can make heartburn significantly worse.

It also makes it easier for the acid to reflux back into the gullet, causing irritation.

You can ease heartburn symptoms at home by eating smaller, more frequent meals, the NHS said.

Raising one end of your bed, by putting something underneath the mattress, could also help to reduce symptoms, as it prevents stomach acid from travelling up the throat.

Speak to a pharmacist if you keep getting heartburn.

Some medicines, known as antacids, may help to relieve the symptoms

Looking after your gut health is one of the most crucial ways of looking after health as a whole.

An upset in gut health can impact digestion and cause you a great deal of discomfort.

Speaking to NHS Choices, Dr Anton Emmanuel, a consultant gastroenterologist at University College Hospital in London said there’s a wide choice of pharmacy remedies for heartburn, indigestion and similar problems that are very good for the short-term relief of symptoms.

But nutritionist Cassandra Barns has revealed 10 gut friendly foods to boost your digestion that could be hanging around in your cupboard.

Apple cider vinegar

Contrary to what you may have thought, it’s more common to have too little stomach acid than too much. Having low stomach acid can cause many of the problems that people associate with indigestion, including burping, nausea and even heartburn symptoms. Taking a tablespoon of apple cider vinegar in a small amount of water before a meal can help to balance stomach acid levels. However, do not try this if you are already taking a prescribed medication to reduce stomach acid.

Garlic

Garlic has potent anti-bacterial and anti-fungal properties. It can help keep in check any ‘bad’ bacteria in the gut and can also be beneficial in cases of candida (yeast) overgrowth in the gut.

Raw sauerkraut or kimchi

Sauerkraut is a traditional fermented food usually made with shredded cabbage. It naturally contains gut-friendly bacteria – it’s basically a natural probiotic! Kimchi is similar to sauerkraut but usually made with a combination of vegetables and the addition of spices such as ginger and red chilli flakes. Make sure you get raw sauerkraut or kimchi; if it doesn’t say raw on the label, it’s probably been pasteurised, which kills all the beneficial bacteria.

Kombucha

We’re learning more and more about the importance of the ‘friendly’ bacteria and other microbes that live in our gut. They’re thought to influence our immunity, mood and weight, as well as our digestion of course. Raw, organic and unpasteurized, Equinox Kombucha is £1.80 from Waitrose.

Jerusalem artichoke

These knobbly vegetables are one of our best sources of inulin, a type of soluble fibre. Inulin has a prebiotic effect, helping to ‘feed’ the good bacteria in our gut.

Raw Cacao

For something a little sweeter but still guy friendly, try OMBAR 72 per cent which is packed full of friendly bacteria called, Lactobacillus acidophilus, a dairy free treat you and your gut will love.

Ginger

Ginger can stimulate production of stomach acid and digestive juices, as well as helping to keep food moving through the gut. It can also help relieve nausea. Use ginger in stews, stir-fries, soups, vegetable juices, grated on salads, or in curries (but keep them light to benefit your digestion) Hot ginger tea made with fresh grated ginger is a fantastic digestive tonic too.

Bone Broth

Traditionally prepared bone broth is made by simmering leftover meat or fish bones for at least 8–12 hours. This process leaves us with a highly nutritious broth containing valuable minerals and gelatin that come from the bones. Gelatin can help to restore a healthy gut lining, and the amino acids it contains may also help to improve stomach acid levels.

Pumpkin seeds

Pumpkin seeds are a great source of zinc, which is vital for good gut health. Raw pumpkin seeds have also been used as a traditional remedy for parasites. Try Grinding up Clearspring’s Organic Tamari Roasted Pumpkin Seeds before eating to get the most benefit.

Oats

We need fibre for a healthy gut and good bowel movements. But wheat bran can be quite harsh on the gut, causing digestive problems for some people. Oats can be a better source of gentle fibre. As a bonus, the fibre in Nairn’s Gluten Free Super Seeded Crackers have also been found to help lower cholesterol levels and help control blood sugar.

Constipation pain and bloating can make your stomach feel stretched and uncomfortable. But, taking these cheap probiotic supplements everyday could help to boost your immune system and help with digestion.
