Chrono Trigger is available on PC for the first time, without the need of emulation and other tricks. Fans can buy it from Steam, where is costs around $ 14.99, which includes the Active Time Battle Version 2. Square Enix has dubbed this the definitive version of Chrono Trigger, which comes with some notable upgrades. THESE INCLUDE: There’s also the Chrono Trigger Limited Edition – Those that purchase the STEAM version until 2nd April 2018 will receive the following digital bonuses for free: And in conjunction with the release of the Steam version, Chrono Trigger for iOS and Android will also receive a major update, which brings all of the enhancements in the PC version to mobile devices. Additionally, Chrono Trigger is also now available on the Amazon AppStore beginning today, bringing the title to an even wider array of mobile platforms. However, while fans have just received access to all this, the first Steam reviews aren’t that impressive. Following the first 90 reviews, Chrono Trigger on Steam boasts a Mostly Negative ranking. It should be noted that many of these have less than 1-hour played, so things could change in the near future. Originally released in 1995, Chrono Trigger was developed by the ‘Dream Team’ of DRAGON QUEST creator Yuji Horii, Dragon Ball creator Akira Toriyama and the creators of the Final Fantasy series. “Many challenges await players in this epic quest to save the planet’s future, as long-lost secrets are revealed through time travel to different eras including the present, middle ages, the future, prehistory and ancient times.” How would you feel if your son had died trying to save the world and his best friends never told you? Chrono Trigger is one of the most famous video games ever made. You’d be hard pressed to find a top 100 list that doesn’t include it, and when it comes to the SNES’s library in particular, it has few (if any) true rivals. But while people like to praise the game’s beautiful sprites and unmatched, its sleek, turn-based battle system and bonkers time-traveling story, they rarely dive deep into the game’s more granular side-narratives, let alone touch on the game’s truly weird thing about moms. Let’s start with the spiky-haired titular character. Chrono’s mom’s wake-up call is the first thing you see when the game starts. She comments on the beautiful sound of the bell ringing from the town square and tells you to stay out of trouble before going downstairs to take care of things around the house. You’re supposed to come back before dinner, but of course you never do, getting caught in a weird portal that transports you through time and puts you on a course to try and prevent an eventual apocalypse. Every time you return to Chrono’s house over the course of the adventure, his mom will comment on whatever new friend he’s brought back. Upon seeing Frog she tells her son to keep his pets outside, while Ayla’s skimpy animal furs leave her scandalized. Ayla, unfazed however, simply responds “Crono strong…Crono mother strong, too!” It’s endearing and one of the details that made the game so memorable when others in the genre were content to have NPCs recycle the same stilted lines no matter how many times you chatted with them. Later on after Chrono dies during the encounter at the Undersea Palace, the game tasks you with retrieving a doll from his house in order to try and revive the fallen hero. But there his mom is, cleaning his room, completely ignorant of her son’s demise. The game’s saddest track starts up and when she asks about Chrono you lie and tell her he’s doing just fine. “Tell him to be good, alright?” she responds. Then you grab the doll and head out. It’s awkward and heart breaking and beautifully unresolved. You can beat the game without bringing him back to life after all, and where modern games might be prone to a protracted, fully voice acted melodramatic scene, Chrono Trigger was content to just let the situation breathe in the background of everything else going on. No one ever mention’s Chrono’s dad, giving his single working mom the depth that comes with stoic resignation. The character seems sad. Wouldn’t you be if your only son went off and got himself killed and never came back home for dinner like you asked? Even when the world is eventually saved, Chrono still takes off just like at the start, with the game completing her portrait as someone who is either deeply oblivious or simply misses her son in silence. In one of the game’s many endings she even slips into a time portal, lost to eternity forcing Chrono and Marla to search for her. Moms, amiright??? And then there’s Lucca’s mother, who’s own clumsiness leads her dress to get caught in some of her husband’s machinery and loses her legs as a result. Lucca was too small at the time to do anything, leading to the setup of the game’s most in-depth and easy to miss side quest wherein she goes back in time and prevents the tragedy or not depending whether the player themselves is fast enough. In one of the earliest timed events in a game I can remember, Lucca has to input the correct password. As you search frantically to discover the correct password to shut off the machine, which turns out to be her mom’s name, Lara, the conveyor belt she’s stuck to carries her closer and closer to a potentially brutal end. But the game never tells you how to input the password. If you don’t guess quick enough that you can do it with the SNES controller’s own alphabetic buttons (L A R A) history repeats itself and Lucca goes on blaming herself for the tragedy. It’s one of the game’s most interesting side quests in part because of how indifferent it seems to the outcome. It’s willing to let you fail in a way, and apparently in the pre-release version of the game, the accident is intended to be unpreventable, and instead provoke questions about the nature of time and its consequences. That’s right, there was a version of Chrono Trigger that didn’t just subject Lucca’s mom to a crippling accident once, but in every possible timeline. There’s also Robo’s spiritual parent, Mother Brain, a super computer intelligence that runs the post-human world after Lavos has destroyed it. Throughout the game Robo is pressured to leave his friends behind and rejoin the collective of machines who created him. At least in the American translation of the game, Mother Brain implies her ruthless reproduction of machines without agency is necessary to try and defeat Lavos and stop the alien entity from spreading to other planets. Originally created to oversee the biodomes that housed the game’s futuristic human population, her agenda is understandable even if it ultimately puts her on a collision course with the surviving remnants of humanity. And since Chrono Trigger is weirdly ruthless with its motherly characters, there’s no way to try and make peace with her so humanity and the technology it created can once again work together and go about fixing the planet. Instead, your only option is to destroy her (the factory she controls is after all processing humans like livestock), but not before the game also asks Robo to destroy his re-programmed romantic partner, Astropos. Finally who could forget Magus’s mother, Queen Zeal, the power hungry magician who has a machine created that will allow her to harness Lavos’ power. Her ambition drives the floating kingdom in the sky to ruin and also leads Magus to become one of the most notorious gaming villains when the loss of his sister drives him into despair and the unlikely stewardship of monsters. He has to witness his mother’s descent into madness not once but twice, and finds himself powerless to stop it both times. Unlike Lucca, there’s no later side quest where you can help Magus undue the toll time has taken on his family. Instead, he’s forced to confront his mother atop the Black Omen towards the game’s end and kill her, left to search for his sister Schala in vain forever after. At least Frog gets to turn back into a human at some point. For Magus, there’s nothing even resembling redemption. Few games have been so cruel when it comes to mothers. Oculus Rift founder Palmer Luckey, who last year spent a lot of money helping Donald Trump get elected, has since spent a lot of money helping Trump throw some big parties. As reported by Mother Jones, Luckey—who last year tried to deny he was a Trump supporter—has since donated $ 100,000 to Trump’s inauguration committee, basically the fund that was used to help the President celebrate his election victory. That donation was made through a shell company called Wings of Time. California business records indicate Luckey is also the owner of a company at the same address called Fiendlord’s Keep. Both of which are references to 1995 JRPG classic Chrono Trigger, one of his favourite video games. Also donating $ 100,000 was Peter Thiel, the man who sued our previous owner Gawker Media out of existence.

Here’s probably the first time someone had to write “Chrono Trigger” and “Donald Trump” in the same sentence.
A Californian limited-liability corporation called Wings of Time gave $ 100,000 to President Donald Trump’s inauguration fund in January, according to official records (and first reported by MotherJones and Washington Post reports). Super Nintendo fans may remember that Wings of Time was also the name of the time-traveling machine in the Square role-playing game Chrono Trigger. While that’s an odd piece of video game-related trivia on its own, the source of that money is possibly even more curious.
Palmer Luckey, who founded Oculus VR before Facebook acquired it for $ 2 billion in 2014, owns a company called Luckey Arms LLC in a building in Los Angeles. That building is also the registered address for Fiendlord’s Keep LLC. Fiendlord’s Keep is also the name of a medieval castle from Chrono Trigger. According to California business records, that sole officer of Fiendlord’s Keep is a person called “Palmer Luckey,” and that company is also the manager of Wings of Time.
I’ve reached out to Palmer Luckey to ask if he owns a pair of companies named after vehicles and settings from Chrono Trigger, and I also asked if those entities donated $ 100,000 to the Trump inauguration.
This revelation comes a matter of weeks after Facebook confirmed that Luckey had left the company and Oculus VR. And that split came after a report detailed Luckey’s work with a group of trolls called Nimble America who promised to bring online “shitposting” into the real-world U.S. presidential campaign through billboards. Luckey was bankrolling that group. After that, Luckey went silent as a public-facing representative of Oculus, and he even stopped posting on Reddit and Twitter … well, until he posted this today:
Nobody can stop me from reposting the same Sword Art Online pictures every year for the next 50 years! https://t.co/1iMO6DMbwB

Luckey has also seen and responded to the Washington Post story. He is upset by what he claims is the reporter not providing ample time for him or his lawyers to respond.
@drewharwell >be WashPo
>accuse corp of being shell company
>Send email, wait 7 minute
>"Messages left with Luckey and his attorney were not returned"— Palmer Luckey (@PalmerLuckey) April 19, 2017
And while Luckey did not confirm in his posts on Twitter that he gave the $ 100,000 to the Trump inauguration, he did provide a reason for doing so.
@oliverkri Probably the same reason companies like Intel, Microsoft, Qualcomm, Coca-Cola, etc do!

I’ll update this story with any new information or comment from Luckey when it becomes available.

If you’re one of the many JRPG fans upset that Sega gave up on proper Phantasy Star games after the Genesis, here is a game for you: Cosmic Star Heroine, a new RPG that channels all sorts of beloved classics, from Chrono Trigger to Suikoden.
So far I’ve played three hours of Cosmic Star Heroine, which came out yesterday for PC and PS4 (with more platforms to follow). It’s a little rough—there are some weird bugs, and my game soft-locked once—but it’s charming and funny, to the point where it might actually take you away from Persona 5. It centers around a super-spy space agent named Alyssa L’Salle, who finds herself battling against a giant conspiracy and sets out to save the galaxy (as you do). And it’s been in development since mid-2013, when it was Kickstarted with an estimated release date of, uh, 2014.
Cosmic Star Heroine is the product of Zeboyd Games, a development team made up of Robert Boyd and Bill Stiernberg. Their previous games include Breath of Death VII, Cthulhu Saves The World, and the final two Penny Arcade RPGs, but this might be the best yet, mostly because of the killer combat system.
Much like Chrono Trigger, combat in Cosmic Star Heroine begins when you run into an enemy avatar out in the field. Your party will move into position, and then you’ll enter a turn-based battle in which you’ll have to pick commands for each character, one round at a time. Each character can attack, defend, cast spells, etc. Standard JRPG fare.
But Cosmic Star Heroine has some neat twists. For starters, there are no magic points or skill points. Instead, you can use each of your characters’ skills once before it’s locked behind a gate. To use that skill again—unless it’s a “reusable” skill—you’ll have to defend. So let’s say your main character, Alyssa, starts off with the Laser and Drown skills, as well as the weaker, but reusable Bash skill. On turn one she might use Laser, then on turn two she could use Drown. But now, on turn three, she can only use Bash or defend. If she defends, all of her skills will be recharged on turn four.
Adding an extra wrinkle to this system is the hyper bar, a gauge that fills up on every turn. On the turn that it’s filled, your character will go into hyper mode and do extra damage, after which the hyper bar will reset again.
So let’s say Alyssa’s hyper bar takes three turns to fill, and she’s fighting an enemy that’s weak to water skills. If she uses Laser on turn one and then Drown (a water skill, obviously) on turn two, she’ll get to turn three and enter hyper mode, but she won’t be able to use Drown to optimize the amount of damage she does against that enemy, because it’ll be locked. In order to take out enemies, you’ll have to plan ahead.

As you get more party members and combat gets more complicated, fighting battles start to feel like looking over a big chessboard, deciding when to use each action to do the most damage before an enemy can take you out. Do you want to waste a hyper turn healing or gamble that you can win before your party members lose all of their health? Do you want to use Alyssa’s strength buff on Chahn to do fire damage or Dave to take out those robots with electricity? On the tougher difficulty modes—I’m playing on the hard “Heroine” difficulty—this can get really elaborate, challenging, and fun.
So yeah, I recommend Cosmic Star Heroine. The finicky little bugs can get annoying—for some reason on PS4, the game is ultra-sensitive when starting conversations and will continually restart dialogue after you’ve Xed out of the box—but I’m quite enjoying the game so far.
Plus, it really rankles this guy:
