Fans were shocked to learn Alfie (played by Shane Richie) was actually alive in yesterday night’s instalment of after he was pushed down the stairs by Hayley Slater (Katie Jarvis).

He fled the Slater house with baby Cherry believing the tot would be better off with him.

In tonight’s episode of the long-running soap, Alfie could be seen hiding out in his car with the baby.

He was soon joined by Phil (Steve McFadden), who handed over two passports.

It quickly became clear Alfie plans to leave the country with baby Cherry.

But after a few words of advice from Phil about what is best for the tot, could he change his mind?

Phil asked Alfie: “Are you sure you know what you’re doing?”

“What leave her with Hayley? You think she’s a good mum do you?” Alfie hit back.

Phil replied: “Kids need family. Not life on the run.”

“Family… you know who you sound like,” Alfie sighed.

Phil simply added: “This ain’t you. Do the right thing.”

He then left Alfie to think about his next move and it seems Alfie may have changed his mind about going on the run.

Hayley is devastated to have lost baby Cherry and blames Kat (Jessie Wallace) for Alfie taking her.

In a shock turn of events, could Alfie change his mind and leave Cherry to be found by the Slaters?

He’s certainly not very popular with the family anymore so he could leave on his own.

But will he be able to abandon his children and Kat after all or simply hide out for a while?

Meanwhile, Louise Mitchell (Tilly Keeper) got very cosy with Keanu (Danny Walters).

The pair enjoyed a steamy clinch after Louise broke up with Keegan Baker (Zack Morris) and Keanu was dumped by Sharon (Letitia Dean).

Hard Southern rockers Black Stone Cherry hit the jackpot with this their sixth release.

These Kentucky boys have built a reputation as a must-see live band and many of the songs on Family Tree will become fan favourites for years to come. In fact, it’s their most mature recording as they mix complex time signatures with soft-top down thumping riffs that race through the grooves on this waxing.

Thin Lizzy style guitar harmonies by Chris Robinson and livewire Ben Wells on Burnin’ display a subtlety of touch within the white heat of its pumping rhythm. Southern Fried Friday Night is a down-home homage to the roots and history of Southern rock music. Whilst tracks I Need A Woman and Get Me Over You are head shaking, good time rock anthems.

Family Tree is ripe with juicy musical fruits ready for the picking.

CHRIS SQUIRE

Fish Out Of Water.

(Esoteric/Cherry Red).

**** 4 stars.

This redux of Chris Squire’s Fish Out Of Water leaps like a salmon with a pristine new stereo mix by Jakko Jakszyk, a re-mastered original mix with bonus track bolt-ons, plus a DVD containing insightful interviews with Squire by Yes expert Jon Kirkman.

To the fore is a meticulous mix of musicianship. In particular, Yes stalwarts Bill Bruford on drums and Patrick Moraz on keyboards. Squire’s peerless trebly bass playing, roams all over the jazz/prog tones, of this his only solo album, like a herd of manic ramblers. His vocals are somewhat of a revelation, too. Stepping to the front, his voice betrays a melodious purity that soars and glides on these top-grade tunes. 

It would also appear that no expense was spared in the production of this lush recording, including a starring role by the St. Paul’s Cathedral organ on Hold Out Your Hand. But it’s the sublime Lucky Seven that still gambols along as the outstanding track on this seminal collaboration between Yes’ Squire and arranger Andrew Pryce Jackman.

Some Ottawa Senators fans have voiced their displeasure with the direction of the team by putting up billboards calling for the ouster of Eugene Melnyk.

Don Cherry agrees that the Senators owner should get out of the nation’s capital, but the colourful hockey personality thinks Melnyk should take the team with him.

“He’s nuts to stay there,” Cherry said Saturday on his popular “Coach’s Corner” segment on CBC, going as far as to suggest that the Senators should move to Quebec City.

Speaking in response to the “Melnyk Out” campaign, which created a buzz in the hockey world when three crowdfunded billboards bearing that hashtag went up in Ottawa with a fourth on the way, Cherry criticized Ottawa fans for not filling the Canadian Tire Centre in suburban Kanata and painted Melnyk as a generous owner who has bankrolled the city’s hockey infrastructure.

“He put millions of dollars into the franchise, and what do they do? They give him a hard time,” Cherry said.

“There’s seven Sens rinks around Ottawa he puts it on, the only bad rink is where they’re playing.”

Discontent goes deeper

The Senators, who were a goal away from reaching the Stanley Cup final last season, have had a miserable 2017-18 campaign. The team is mired near the bottom of the Eastern Conference standings and there is rampant speculation that popular team captain Erik Karlsson will be traded before he becomes an unrestricted free agent at the end of next season.

That prompted fan Spencer Callaghan to spearhead the GoFundMe billboard campaign that raised $ 10,000 in less than a month.

Cherry instead put the blame on the fans, calling them out for not packing the arena even when they were on their impressive run last season.

“He’d sell out Quebec in a heartbeat,” Cherry said.

But Callaghan said the roots of fan discontentment go deeper than simply a lost season.

“The really clear message I want to get through is this is not about this season, this is not about a bad season,” Callaghan said when the billboards went up Monday. “This is about Daniel Alfredsson leaving, twice, this is about why Kyle Turris left, this is about why Mr. Leeder left, why Mr. Anselmi left. This is about a series of decisions over a long period of time.”

Don Cherry doesn’t think European players should be allowed to play in the Canadian Hockey League.

Speaking to the media before Thursday night’s CHL Top Prospects game, Cherry was asked what he thought about Europeans coming to North America to gain experience.

“I’m not happy for that, to be truthful,” said Cherry, who is coaching one of the teams for the CHL showcase event. “I’m supposed to say, ‘Here, yes, we’re a wonderful country and accept everybody here.’

“What happens is, if you look at it, there’s a Canadian kid not playing. No matter how you cut the mustard, I said this a long time ago and we have it now in bantam, we have them coming over in bantams, if you can believe it. We have them in minor midget as I go all the time and they’re very rich when they come over and you’re asking me, ‘Do I believe in Europeans playing in [the] Canadian Hockey League?’ No. I don’t.”

Plenty of Europeans

Barrie Colts winger Andrei Svechnikov of Russia and Halifax Mooseheads forward Filip Zadina of the Czech Republic are the top two North American skaters ranked by NHL Central Scouting for June’s draft.

Current rules allow CHL clubs to carry two European import players on its roster each season.

The group Cherry coached Thursday had six European skaters who all joined the CHL through the import draft.

Sudbury Wolves forward Kirill Nizhnikov, a member of Team Orr, left his hometown of Moskva, Russia as a 14-year-old and played bantam and midget hockey in the Greater Toronto Area before being selected in the first round of the 2016 OHL Priority selection by the Mississauga Steelheads.

Cherry, 83, is considered a builder of the annual CHL Top Prospects game and is coaching in the event for the 17th time.

Former 24 POTUS Cherry Jones will appear in Season 2 of The Handmaid’s Tale, per The Hollywood Reporter. She’ll debut as Holly, mother of Elisabeth Moss’ June/Offred, in Episode 4 of the upcoming season; it’s not clear whether Jones will appear in more than one episode.
