The Last Ship‘s Tom Chandler is in the midst of brokering an extremely uneasy alliance when some very bad news hits, in this sneak peek from Episode 3 of the TNT drama’s fifth and final season. In the episode “El Puente” (The Bridge), airing Sunday at 9/8c, Chandler (played by Eric Dane) tries his hand at diplomacy to unite two hostile countries so they can fight a common enemy in “revolutionary” Gustavo Barros. As seen in the exclusive preview above, it is Mexico and Cuba with whom he is trying to ally the United States, though at least one of the parties interprets Chandler’s offer of military assistance as an occupation. Can Chandler convince his Mexico counterpart otherwise? And even if he can, is Mexico willing to throw in with “war criminal” Cuba? Whatever the case, the gentlemen better make their difficult decision fast, as Chandler and Slattery (Adam Baldwin) are about to get news of the latest country to fall to Tavo’s army! Want more scoop on The Last Ship, or for any other show? Email InsideLine@tvline.com and your question may be answered via Matt’s Inside Line.

Stop the presses, there’s been a Catch-22 casting shakeup! But as far as shakeups go, this one is fairly pleasant. Kyle Chandler has joined the cast of the Hulu adaptation, taking over a role previously inhabited by producer George Clooney. Clooney, meanwhile, has decided to take on a different part entirely.
Hulu and George Clooney’s adaptation of Joseph Heller’s Catch-22 has a new Colonel Cathcart. Friday Night Lights and Bloodline actor Kyle Chandler will take over the part of Cathcart, described as a “squadron’s commanding colonel, who wants to be a general, he keeps raising the number of missions needed to complete a tour of duty. Cathcart has a fear of failure while yearning for success.” This was a part that Clooney was originally going to play himself, but Deadline reports that Clooney will now play a character named Scheisskopf. This is a much smaller part, which will give Clooney more time to focus on directing and producing the limited series.
Catch-22 is based on the acclaimed, satirical Joseph Heller novel about an Air Force pilot’s madcap struggles set against the backdrop of World War II. In addition to Clooney and Chandler, the series stars It Comes At Night‘s Christopher Abbott and House‘s Hugh Laurie. The Hulu adaptation is being written by Luke Davies and David Michôd, with Clooney and producing partner Grant Heslov both producing and directing the series. Here’s the series synopsis.
Based on Joseph Heller’s seminal novel of the same name, Catch-22 is the story of the incomparable, artful dodger, Yossarian (Christopher Abbott), a US Air Force bombardier in World War II who is furious because thousands of people he has never met are trying to kill him. But his real problem is not the enemy, but rather his own army which keeps increasing the number of missions the men must fly to complete their service. Yet if Yossarian makes any attempt to avoid his military assignments, he’ll be in violation of Catch-22, a hilariously sinister bureaucratic rule which specifies that a concern for one’s own safety in the face of dangers which are real and immediate is the process of a rational mind; a man is considered insane if he willingly continues to fly dangerous combat missions, but a request to be removed from duty is evidence of sanity and therefore makes him ineligible to be relieved from duty.
This cast is shaping up nicely. Clooney, Chandler, Abbott and Laurie are all very good actors, and as Catch-22 has a long list of characters, I’m curious to see who else ends up joining the cast.

Chandler has appeared on The Walking Dead as Carl, the son of protagonist Rick Grimes (played by Andrew Lincoln), since the very first episode.
But after a shock turn of events in December, where Carl revealed that he had been bitten by a walker earlier on in the series, fans of the show have been waiting for his on screen death.
After being shot in the chest, and losing his eye, the walker bite is not something he could get away from – ensuring that he would be dead by the end of the season.
With the final minutes of Carl’s life shown on screen in last night’s episode, Chandler has set his sights on moving on to a new career.
Looking at Chandler’s Twitter account reveals that he has been hard at work on another form of performance for some time.
His pinned tweet details his alter-ego: “eclipse”.
Chandler has been releasing electronic music on SoundCloud for two months, and so far has released four complete tracks.
He has combined these songs into a fully fledged EP, titled “lunar”.
Venturing on to eclipse’s Twitter reveals that he performed at his first concert last night in Los Angeles.
Each track has an artist features on it, showing that he has been hard at work perfecting his sound.
Also last night, Chandler tweeted about his character’s exit ahead of the show’s air time.
He emotionally revealed: “It was always for the fans, and it always will be.
“So thank you for giving me this chance to let me pursue my dream and continue to make you angry, sad, happy, and everything in between. I won’t let you down.”
Chandler recently spoke to Entertainment Weekly about Carl’s emotional final scene, where he said: “He knew that they were going to have to bury him anyways and that was definitely going to suck, but he figured that was the least he could do to help out.
“It was a really kind of empowering thing because it’s showing that he was really the only one that could take himself out and put himself down.”
The Walking Dead airs tonight at 9pm on FOX UK.
The Walking Dead episode titled Honour saw Carl succumb to a Walker’s bite injury, which he suffered in episode six – The King, the Widow, and Rick.
Carl, the young son of Alexandria leader Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln), took his own life with a sniper rifle to prevent his transformation into a Walker and to save his father and best friend Michonne (Danai Gurira) from further heart-ache.
Now, actor Chandler has opened up about the heart-wrenching scene, saying: “I think he knew how much this was impacting Michonne and Rick and he really didn’t want to put them through any more suffering and didn’t want them to have to do that.
“He knew that they were going to have to bury him anyways and that was definitely going to suck, but he figured that was the least he could do to help out.
“It was a really kind of empowering thing because it’s showing that he was really the only one that could take himself out and put himself down.”
Naturally, the emotional scenes drew a huge reaction from die-hard fans, with many left in tears after watching Carl’s death.
Speaking about the tear-jerking scene, he told Entertainment Tonight: “We shot it first in the order of the episode but it was definitely the hardest to film.”
He went on to reveal that it was also difficult to shoot the farewell Judith scene, adding: “The goodbye scene to Judith – that was super depressing as well. That was super hard to get through, but just a really sad episode overall.
“I remember reading the script and I was just like, ‘Awww I’m really going to have to do all this?’ And it was tough to get through but I’m glad I got through it.”
Although Carl’s death came as a surprise to some fans of the hit FOX series, 18-year-old Chandler admits he was not surprised by his exit.
He said: “I knew it was coming for a long time, but it was weird to think that that would be it.”
Discussing his final day on set, he added: “We were in the sound stage studio and when I walked out everyone had eye patches over their eyes and everyone was clapping and cheering.
“They gave me a hat from season one and a framed T-shirt of one that I wore back in season one. It was definitely hard to get through that speech [to the cast and crew] and that was just a very sad day.”
In the midseason premiere episode, Carl experienced a puzzling flash forward, which some have speculated is a hint of what is to come this season.
“Well they were originally kind of Carl’s ideal future of what life could be like,” Chandler explained. “They teased it as Carl’s envisions of the future but now it’s kind of playing our like that’s kind of how it’s going to be.”

Carl Grimes (played by Chandler Riggs) isn’t long for this world, as fans are set to see the end of him in The Walking Dead season eight midseason premiere.
He left Michonne (Danai Gurira) and his father Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln) devastated when he revealed that he had been bitten by a walker earlier on in the season.
But as Chandler gets closer to the end of his character’s tenure, he has begun to reveal some show secrets.
He recently revealed an unbelievable blunder that has occurred throughout the series so far and admitted he was fully aware of it.
In season six, Carl was shot through his right eye during a gunfight but Chandler has revealed that he has still been using it.
Over various scenes throughout season seven and eight, Chandler has portrayed Carl aiming guns using his missing right eye, eyepatch included.
Chandler has now addressed the mistake and admitted that it is his fault.
Speaking to HuffPost, he said: ”Actually, what we ended up doing, after I got my eye shot out, we ended up switching the holster to my left pant leg.
“I had to retrain my left hand to shoot and aim down.”
Chandler went on to admit that he didn’t get on with the character’s change.
He said: “It felt way too awkward having to put it on my left shoulder and aim down with my left eye.
“By the time I got to it with machine guns and assault rifles and stuff, I just got lazy with it.
“It was super weird, so I was like, you know what, forget continuity. That’s just ridiculous.”
Although viewers won’t blame Chandler for the change, it certainly does look a little suspect once it has been noticed.
These comments come after Lennie James revealed a little too much information about his upcoming story.
Appearing on The One Show, Lennie alluded to the death of his character Morgan.
The Walking Dead airs Monday at 9pm on FOX UK.
Fans of the AMC series were dealt the cruelest blow when season eight came to its midseason finale, as Carl Grimes was unmasked as the latest hero to be killed off.
The fan favourite, played by Chandler Riggs, was last seen collapsed and hidden underground with his fellow Alexandrians, before unveiling a bite mark to father Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln) and Michonne (Dania Gurira).
Ahead of the bombshell, that absolutely no viewer saw coming, actor Riggs has urged admins of The Spoiling Dead Fans not to ruin the revelation; which they subsequently agreed to.
The Spoiling Dead Fans have since shared their promise with Riggs, which was made back in November.
“So I’ve come to realise that you all have probably figured out the big reveal at the end of 808,” Riggs pleaded. “If not, you will find out soon enough via one of your sources. I get that you guys have been doing this since we started, but I have a request.
“Out of respect for me, for Carl, and for one of the last few seasons of the show, I’m asking you not to spoil the ending of 808 once your sources inform you of what happens.”
The 18-year-old appears to have confirmed season eight will be “one of the last few” cycles remaining in The Walking Dead, despite assurances from bosses it will go on infinitely.
Carl’s death has angered fans more than any TWD controversy before it, with 60,000 avid followers of the show signing a petition to sack producer Scott M. Gimple
What’s more, audiences were left scratching their heads, believing Carl had been bitten off-screen.
However, Gimple has since revealed Carl was bitten before millions, believed to be in episode six.
“It happened in a moment that was on screen,” he teased. “We didn’t see the absolute bite, but we saw when it happened and we even saw Carl’s reaction to it after it happened in one of the episodes we’ve seen this season.”
The Walking Dead will return to AMC on February 25 and will air on FOX UK the following day.

The following contains spoilers from the fall finale of AMC’s The Walking Dead.
The Walking Dead pulled a bite-and-switch during Season 8’s fall finale, when after getting people thinking that Lucille might have a date with someone else’s cranium, no heroes wound up stepping up to the bat.
Alas, the episode’s final moments revealed that there would be a casualty nonetheless — because Carl had been bitten by a walker in the course of transporting Siddiq.
Learning of Carl’s fate while filming Episode 6, a few weeks prior, “was quite the shocker for me, Andy [Lincoln, who plays Rick] and everyone,” Riggs said. “It was devastating for me and my family because the show has been such a huge part of my life for so long…. I didn’t expect for Carl to ever get killed off.”
Riggs’ real-life father, William, affirmed as much in a Facebook post. “Watching [TWD EP Scott] Gimple fire my son two weeks before his 18th birthday after telling him they wanted him for the next three years was disappointing,” the parent wrote. “I never trusted Gimple or AMC, but Chandler did. I know how much it hurt him. But we do absolutely know how lucky we have been to be a part of it all and appreciate all the love from fans all these years!”
Chandler Riggs — who will last appear in the Feb. 26 midseason premiere, when Carl dies on-screen — told THR the unexpected twist “serves a good purpose in the story,” adding: “I don’t know how Rick and Michonne are going to handle it. I guess I’ll have to watch and find out!”
