Like this story? Share it with a friend! The Great Pyramid of Giza is one of the most popular tourist attractions in Egypt and the world. As the last remaining landmark of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World, the mysteries behind it plague scientists and archaeologists to this day. A recent discovery from within the hidden chambers has shocked experts after learning more about the way it transmits signals. The shape of the pyramid focuses electromagnetic energy into the chambers creating higher levels of energy. It could help to be a source of renewable energy in the future. The discovery within the 4,000-year-old landmark was found by Russian scientists, who state it could create better solar cells. Yet experts have quashed the claims, stating ancient Egyptians did not know of the powers it harnessed. A statement from ITMO University in Russia read: “While Egyptian pyramids are surrounded by many myths and legends, we have little scientifically reliable information about their physical properties. “As it turns out, sometimes this information proves to be more striking than any fiction.” They admitted that they had to make “some assumptions” in their study due to a lack of knowledge of the inner pyramids. Scientific supervisor and coordinator of the research Dr Sc. Andrey Evlyukhin explained: “For example, we assumed that there are no unknown cavities inside, and the building material with the properties of an ordinary limestone is evenly distributed in and out of the pyramid. “With these assumptions made, we obtained interesting results that can find important practical applications.” Using tiny particles resembling the pyramid, this could soon be used to replicate the discovery. It isn’t the first shocking secret to be unearthed about the ancient pyramids in recent years. An ancient burial site dating back to 2,500 years was found earlier this month, containing a rare silver mask among others ancient items. Another mystery to have plagued experts was why the shape of the Pyramid was designed in light in the cardinal points of north, south, east and west. Despite being slightly lopsided, it is believed that the ancient Egyptians built it this way thanks to the autumn equinox. Occurring between winter and summer solstice, it is thought to be the reason behind it. Engineer Glen Dash explained in the Journal Of Ancient Egyptian Architecture: “The builders of the Great Pyramid of Khufu aligned the great monument to the cardinal points with an accuracy of better than four minutes of arc, or one-fifteenth of one degree. “All three pyramids exhibit the same manner of error; they are rotated slightly counterclockwise from the cardinal points. On the equinox, the surveyor will find that the tip of the shadow runs in a straight line and nearly perfectly east-west.”

BBC One will repeat The Vicar of Dibley’s popular wedding episode in memory of Emma Chambers.
The 53-year-old played Alice Tinker in the series alongside Dawn French’s Geraldine Grainger.
Episode Love and Marriage will be broadcast at 10.45pm, following a late schedule change by the BBC.
Emma’s character marries Hugo Horton (played by James Fleet) in the popular 1998 episode.
Alice appeared in all 20 episodes of The Vicar of Dibley, including four Comic Relief specials until 2007, but she did not appear in the two most recent offerings, in 2013 and 2015.
Asked if she ever saw herself in the character, Emma once said: “I’m not sure. You do inevitably bring yourself to a role.
“Like Alice I am vulnerable, emotional and caring, but I am not thick. I think she is gorgeously naïve, like a child. And that is one thing I am not: I am a cynical old b***h.”
Tonight’s schedule change will replace Have I Got Old News For You.
Her agent confirmed in a statement that Emma died of natural causes.
They said: “Over the years, Emma created a wealth of characters and an immense body of work.
“She brought laughter and joy to many, and will be greatly missed.”
Emma is survived by her husband, actor Ian Dunn, following her suspected heart attack. The couple, who did not have any children, married back in 1991.
Speaking on BBC Radio 4 yesterday, former executive producer Jon Plowman commented: “It’s no age to have a heart attack, as I understand it.
“Emma was a gifted comic actress who made any part she played look easy. She was adored by the cast and crew.”
Posting a snapshot of their time together on set, Dawn wrote: “I was regularly humped like this by the unique & beautiful spark that was Emma Chambers. I never minded. I loved her. A lot.”
Following the hit sitcom, Emma went on to play Honey Thacker, the on-screen sister of Hugh Grant’s character William Thacker, in Notting Hill.
The Vicar of Dibley airs tonight on BBC One at 10.45pm.

Tom Chambers loved visiting the island of Spinalonga last year
WHAT IS YOUR MOST MEMORABLE HOLIDAY?
I had a real moment when I went to Crete last year and visited the former leper colony Spinalonga.
We visited the island by boat and it was like walking on to a Harry Potter film set, with all caves and buildings built into the rocks.
Our guide had fascinating stories about lepers who went to hide there and those tales have stayed with me; it’s humbling to think how lucky we are to be able bodied.
The rest of the holiday was pretty memorable too – you can’t beat a bit of Greek plate smashing.
AND YOUR WORST?
In 2000 I took a flight to Kenya to visit my sister who lived there, and a madman stormed the cockpit, intending to crash the plane.
He took over the controls and for two-and-a-half minutes the plane was nose-diving, literally falling out the sky.
Apparently we were four seconds away from crashing, before the crew regained control.

Tom and his sister almost died on a flight to Kenya
What I remember most is everyone praying aloud in different languages.
I joined in, as it seemed the right thing to do.
I was straight on a connecting flight afterwards so I had no time to develop a fear of flying.
My sister told me off for being late!

Tom met his first crush in Aigua Blava, in 1987
WHAT IS YOUR FAVOURITE SOUVENIR?
An old Spanish ashtray – you know the sort, bright yellow with painted flowers.
It reminds me of family holidays in Aigua Blava, a gem of a place in northeastern Spain which I still visit.
My family started going there in 1987 and I had my first crush on a girl called Lucy from Liverpool.
I saw her every year and from the age of 15 to 19 we’d get the ashtray and have a cheeky fag and snog.
Fond memories indeed.

Tom’s favourite holiday read is The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho
BEST HOLIDAY READ?
The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho.
It’s a truly wonderful book about trusting your instincts and finding your destiny.
I read it on holiday in Aigua Blava in 2003, after five years unemployed trying to become an actor.
I was about to quit until I read this, sat on a balcony, overlooking the sea.
It inspired me to not give up.

HOW DO YOU SPEND YOUR TIME ON HOLIDAY?
If it’s just Claire and me we love to sit and chat by the sea or pool – no books, no phones.
If we’re with the children we like simple pleasures such as roasting marshmallows whilst camping, or crabbing at Salcombe in Devon.

Tom loves the laid-back atmosphere of Santa Monica
WHERE WOULD YOU REVISIT?
Los Angeles, which is strange because I have a love-hate relationship with it.
I went a few times during pilot season, trying to get acting work and found it artificial, but I’ve been back with my family and now think it’s charming.
I love the laid-back atmosphere of Santa Monica and the Farmers Market on the corner of 3rd Street at Fairfax Avenue.
There’s so much to see and with Frank Sinatra music playing in the streets I’m a happy man.

WHERE NEXT?

I’m taking the family for New Year and plan to rest my legs and make sandcastles on the beach with the kids.

William Chambers signs new deal with Storm. Picture: Jake Nowakowski
MELBOURNE Storm has staved off rival clubs and re-signed Will Chambers for the next three seasons.
Official paperwork was lodged with the NRL on Wednesday night for the 29-year-old Australian and Queensland centre.
“With and without the ball he’s very important,” Storm football director Frank Ponissi said.
“He’s one of the best defensive centres in the game … attack wise his ability to break the line and score tries — he’s very potent in that area and he’s also physically imposing as well.”
Chambers (157 games) is currently the club’s fifth-most experienced player, behind Cameron Smith (344), Cooper Cronk (310), Billy Slater (285) and Jesse Bromwich (164).
With Cronk (moving to Sydney), Jordan McLean (Cowboys) and Tohu Harris (Warriors) moving on at the end of the season, it was crucial for Storm to keep Chambers.
Storm entered the season with an arsenal of off-contract stars, but within 12 rounds been able to secure seven gun signings, including Bromwich brothers — Jesse and Kenny — Dale Finucane and Felise Kaufusi.
Injured big man Christian Welch (ACL) and Joe Stimson have also signed new deals.

Slater, 33, is the biggest name on a dwindling off-contract list, which includes Anzac Medallist Nelson Asofa-Solomona and versatile playmaker Ryley Jacks.
Storm officials expect Slater to declare his intentions last in the season.
The superstar fullback is keen to get more games under his belt before making a decision, having missed the best part of the past two years with injury.
Ponissi conceded it was going to be a “tough ask” keeping everyone, with so many players coming off contract this season.
“Clubs like to target our players and that puts them at higher demand in the market and puts pressure to keep them.
“We’ve done well given the three that we have lost have gone for personal reasons rather than any other reason, so it’s just probably having so many (big names leave) all at once has probably magnified the situation.”

]]>Facebook, like Twitter, can often serve as a personal echo chamber. Users add people they have things in common with, while following and Liking pages that they perceive to be trustworthy. As the debate around fake news continues, the social media giant is testing a new way of surfacing information that a user may otherwise not see. It’s called “Topics to Follow” and it works by delivering content from a number of publishers based around a specific theme, rather than a specific outlet.
TechCrunch reports that it takes the form of a new box that sits in the News Feed that lets users swipe between various topics, including Theater, Horror Movies or Photography. Each theme has its own landing page, which details how many sources contribute to each topic and offers an option to connect with them all with a press of a button. Once followed, new posts from those sources will then appear in the main feed.
“We’re testing ways for people to subscribe directly to topics in News Feed so they can see more stories about topics they like,” a Facebook spokesperson told TechCrunch. “In addition to following specific Pages, this is a new way to follow the general topics you’re interested in.”
Right now, topics are very light and general in nature, but if the tool proves to be popular, Facebook may decide to expand its reach into more divisive topics like politics. Because each theme pulls from a number of varying sources, followers may be more inclined to read alternative views and question the reporting of their more trusted sources.
Facebook’s influence over news cannot be underestimated. In the UK, Conservative MP and the chairman of the culture, media and sport select committee Damian Collins has warned that misleading information on social media could threaten democracy in Britain. “The risk is what happened in America,” he said. “The top 20 fake news stories in the last three months of the election were shared more than the top 20 most shared stories that were true.”

]]>Europe’s “masquerade ball” is over, Erdogan said at yet another demonstration in Istanbul on Sunday, where he rallied support for a ‘Yes’ vote in Turkey’s upcoming constitutional referendum.
Saying the “struggle” against his country has reached a new level, Erdogan slammed European nations, particularly Germany and the Netherlands, for their “Nazi regulations” as they revealed “the hatred they have accumulated for years against our country, our nation or even against all Muslims on TV screens and newspaper headlines every day.”
Erdogan then dropped the hammer, “If they weren’t ashamed, they would revive the gas chambers,” he added as quoted by the Hurriyet Daily News.
The Turkish president then turned his sights on the German Chancellor Angela Merkel. “When we call them Nazis they [European politicians] get uncomfortable. They rally together in solidarity. Especially Merkel,” Erdogan said as cited by AFP.
“Merkel. She backs [the Netherlands] too. You too are practicing Nazi practices. To whom? To my Turkish brothers and sisters in Germany,” the Turkish leader also said as quoted by the AP.
He used an informal form of “you” in Turkish.
Erdogan declared that the current policy of a number of European states is based on fear of Turkey’s power. “They [European states] do not have the urge to hide their intentions and cannot hide the discomfort they feel from Turkey, which is growing stronger,” Erdogan said, as cited by Reuters.
The comments come as the Turkish Foreign Ministry summoned the German ambassador to express Ankara’s anger over a Kurdish rally held in Frankfurt on Saturday. The Turkish president’s spokesman Ibrahim Kalin also called Germany’s actions “a worst example of double standards.”
“The German ambassador was invited, summoned, to the Foreign Ministry and this [rally] was condemned in the strongest way,” he said as reported by Deutsche Welle.
The spokesperson added that the “scandalous” event in Frankfurt shows that European countries are in fact actively campaigning against Turkey’s constitutional reform.
“It is unacceptable to see the symbols and slogans of the [outlawed Kurdistan Workers’ Party] PKK [at a rally in Frankfurt] while Turkish ministers and politicians are barred from meeting with their fellow citizens,” Kalin told in an interview to CNN Turk.
Around 30,000 Kurdish supporters took to the streets in Frankfurt on Saturday to denounce the Turkish president and the upcoming referendum which seeks to expand his presidential powers.
Scheduled for April 16, the plebiscite proposes amendments to the constitution that will make Erdogan the sole executive head of state, with the authority to choose his own cabinet ministers, enact laws, call elections, and declare states of emergency.
Turkish officials have been seeking meetings with Turks living in Europe ahead of the referendum hoping to get the support of the strong diaspora — in Germany alone, there are 1.5 million people with Turkish citizenship. But these plans did not go down well with the European authorities.
In early March, Turkey’s Justice Minister Bekir Bozdag pulled out of a scheduled visit to Germany, after a small town in German south-western region of Baden-Wurttemberg denied him the chance to address his countrymen.
The city of Cologne canceled a similar event, where Turkish economy minister Nihat Zeybekci was due to speak. Ankara also summoned the German ambassador at that time.
Pro-referendum rallies were also canceled in Austria and Switzerland, while the Netherlands barred a plane carrying Turkey’s Foreign Minister from landing ahead of an event in Rotterdam. This provoked an angry reaction in Turkey, who accused the EU of “selective democracy and xenophobia.”
