Adil Ray has made a cheeky remark about Piers Morgan as he prepares to return to the Good Morning Britain desk today. The 44-year-old, who is filling in for the 53-year-old journalist, also revealed the toughest thing about replacing the TV star. Speaking about stepping in for Piers, the comic joked: “The benefit of filling in is that it means he’s not going to be there! “The biggest challenge was the early start having to get up at 3am. I spent a week trying to adjust my body clock!” He added: “But once you are in the studio it’s like being on stage, where you just get on with it and adrenaline just kicks in. The time whizzes by.” The star of Citizen Khan also sang the praises of Piers’s co-host Susanna Reid, 48, describing her as “incredibly smart.” On sitting next to the mother-of-three behind the desk, he admitted: “I was a bit nervous sitting next to Susanna. Who wouldn’t be! “She’s incredibly smart, cool and of course, well… Susanna! My favourite on air moment? Telling her she was beautiful in Urdu. Smooth? Right? “Working with Susanna, Ranvir, Kate, Charlotte, Laura, Richard, Sean and the family has really been a lot of fun.” Also, the actor said he has a lot more respect for the show after working on it and commended it for bringing “some light to people’s morning”. He shared: “People want that in the morning, that’s the key. News can be quite bleak and monotonous.” While Adil prepares to helm the show, Piers has taken another swipe at Little Mix following their appearance at the Brit Awards 2019 last night. The father-of-four accused Jesy Nelson, Perrie Edwards, Jade Thirwall and Leigh-Anne Pinnock of “fat-shaming” him after they laughed at a joke about his weight. During the ceremony, host Jack Whitehall chatted to the girlband about the broadcaster disapproving of their naked campaign picture. Speaking to the singer, he said: “Piers Morgan didn’t like that picture where you stripped off naked, which is weird, because you know, voluptuous breasts and four chins it must be like looking in the mirror for him.” He continued: “Jess what would you say to that dutty waste man?” to which Jesy, 27, exclaimed: “Jack?!” Defending his behaviour, the British act admitted: “I want some beef at the BRITs,” as the superstars giggled. Taking to Twitter to denounce the group and host, Piers told his 6.4 million followers he was “shocked and disappointed”. He wrote: “It’s just this kind of public negative body image mockery that the same @LittleMix campaigned against and of which I am now a victim. Shame on you, ladies! #BRITS.” In a second tweet, he quipped: “And as for chins, at least I’ve got some, you chinless little weed @jackwhitehall. #BRITS.” Good Morning Britain airs weekdays on ITV at 6am.
Not only have there been several cast shakeups within the ranks, but “reform” is also in the air, Seda tells TVLine in the following Q&A. Meanwhile, back at the homestead, Antonio is faced with a “tough challenge” that’s complicated by his old/new job.
Below, Seda also previews the state of Antonio’s love life, addresses the exit of co-star Sophia Bush (Erin Lindsay) and ponders how his character has changed during his time away from P.D.
TVLINE | How has it been transitioning back to P.D.? Is it like coming home?
In some ways, yes, some ways, no. I said this the other day on set: “In some ways, it feels like I never left, but was gone for quite some time.” I’m going back to the old team, but also the new team. It’s Season 5, but there’s a real sense of: This is a new beginning. A lot of that is spurred on by what’s really happening in Chicago. It’s hard to be a cop these days anywhere, but especially in Chicago right now. So there’s reform, and I think reform is, like, the overall title for this whole season. It’s trying to take the magic that we have already that gave us four seasons and just finding a way to make it even better.
TVLINE | There’s a lot of change in the unit: Lindsay is leaving, and some new faces have joined since Antonio left. How are the dynamics different in the new season within the unit?
There’s been some changes all around, from the actors to producers and things like that. Sophia Bush is a great talent… when I worked with her, I just had such a great time. She’s going to be missed. I don’t think it’s so much that you even try to fill those shoes. You just kind of take it for what it is. That was a great character she created, and you just focus now on the team that’s there and move forward.
Everyone has known each other now, this family, for four [seasons]… Antonio’s coming back, and we have Tracy Spiridakos, who is just so good. I call her “The Quiet Thunder.” So it’s going to be interesting to find out more about her, and how she became a cop, and how she got to where she is, and just seeing how we move forward as a unit.
TVLINE | How does Antonio react to the fact that Lindsay’s not there anymore?
It’s hard. Antonio misses her. But he has to come back and do his job as best he can. Maybe they will have scenes where she’s calling and talking on the phone or something. I don’t know. Like I said, you really don’t have time to stop and think about it. You’ve just got to move on.
TVLINE | He’s not a shoulder to lean on for brokenhearted Jay?
[Laughs] He always has a shoulder for Jay.
TVLINE | Does Antonio come back in as a detective?
Yeah, he comes back as a detective. The Intelligence team is working a case where they’re trying to go after this certain suspect, and they hit a bump where they need to bring someone in that this guy… does not know, and that turns out to be Antonio. He helps them with this case, which leads to his coming back.
TVLINE | Is he any different now after his time in the State’s Attorney’s office? Has that other investigator job changed his approach to his work?
I definitely think so. When you move on and work with different people, you learn. You pick up different things, you see different perspectives. Antonio got to work with Laura Nagel, who was played by Joelle Carter, and he hadn’t had a partner in so long, up until that point. So [with] that kind of camaraderie, and just bringing to that partner relationship what he brought and what she brought, you learn a lot. And it’s a whole different world being in the State’s Attorney’s. He has a whole different outlook. When there’s a case coming up, he can have a different perspective.
TVLINE | Who is his partner now?
Well, we’re only on the second episode, [in which] Burgess is partnered up with Antonio. So that might be something that you might see more of throughout the season.
TVLINE | One of the reasons that Antonio left for the other job was that he wanted to spend more time with his family. Now that he’s back at P.D., does that affect his family life?
One thing that definitely will be touched on — and you see it right away in the second episode — is Antonio’s daughter is having a tough time with her mother and her new boyfriend. So she will be living with Antonio, [who is] going to be juggling having his teenage daughter and work life… He loves his family. That’s a tough thing, because he loves the city, and he wants to do what he feels he was meant to do, and sometimes it comes with great sacrifices. But that’s going to be a tough challenge for him to try to be there as a father to his daughter and be at work.
TVLINE | Speaking of challenges, his romance with Sylvie hit a few of those, as well. What’s going on in his love life next season?
Antonio’s single. No one on the horizon that I know of or he knows of. Hey, look, Antonio’s back, she’s there [on Chicago Fire]. I love working with Kara Killmer. We had a great time. I never thought, when it was first talked of, even, that it would be that well-received. I’m just really thankful that the fans liked that. [The producers are] pretty good at doing what the fans want, so we’ll see. I’m totally open to it. If they come to me and say, “Do you want to do something in regards to that?” I’m all for it!

CHIP shop owner John Haggerston boasts that he serves Britain’s largest plate of fish and chips – and only seven people have ever finished it.
The “whale challenge” involves eating a 32oz haddock, 15oz of chips, a roll and four side dishes.
A standard portion is a 6oz fish and 10oz of chips.
The fastest the £11.99 challenge has been completed is in five minutes 41 seconds by a customer who somehow also helped to finish his partner’s fish and chips too.
John, who owns Casey’s chip shop in Ossett, West Yorks, said: “We have run the challenge for over two years but only seven people have ever completed it. We have had people from America come over to try it.
“We get people coming in every week to try, about 10 a week. Everybody eggs each other on and there is always a great atmosphere in here.”
John, 37, added: “I have a 72oz haddock ready for anyone who wants to take on an even bigger challenge.”
Will the real Henry Parrish please stand up?
John Noble made his heralded (second) return to Sleepy Hollow Friday, but not quite as his usual alter ego, Henry Parrish. Instead, the Fringe vet showed up as an amalgam of Ichabod’s memories of him — preserved in the glass jar at The Vault since the despair demon incident — mixed with the blood of the Horseman of War.
Who happened to be Ichabod at the time. (Don’t worry: The Revolutionary War captain was back to his normal self by the end of the episode.)
Henry managed to convince Jenny & Co. that, because he was composed of Ichabod’s good memories, he had only good intentions. But in the hour’s final moments, Jobe brought the sin eater to meet Malcolm, and that’s when it became clear: Henry was playing Team Witness, and he very much wants to be the Horseman of War once more.
Are Henry’s intentions completely nefarious? And what does his reappearance mean for next week’s season finale? We asked co-showrunner Albert Kim for some insight.
TVLINE | How did you come to the decision that this was how you were going to bring Henry back into the fray?
There’s two parts to that question. One is the simple, logical mechanics of how you bring back a character who’s died on the show. We knew we wanted John Noble back; it was something we’ve been thinking about since the beginning of the season. And especially as we got closer to the end of this season, and we saw where our story and thematic threads were leading, they all have to do with family. This show has always been about family, and Henry is an important part of that, obviously.
So we had to figure out, from a purely mechanical standpoint: How do we bring Henry back from the dead? Luckily, we’re a show that deals in magic and lots of out-there phenomenon and concepts, so we had a little more leeway there… We came up with, well, what if the jar of goo mingles with the blood of War, which are all the essential components of Henry? …Now, whether this is the actual, flesh-and-blood Henry that we knew from before? We leave that a little open to interpretation.
…By the end of the episode, you realize he’s much more the holistic version of Henry that you know and that Crane has always known: He’s both Good Henry and Bad Henry and all the complexities that Henry represents. And then in the next episode, we have a couple of amazing scenes between Tom Mison and John Noble where Crane, who knows Henry better than almost anyone, senses who this character is, who this person is and tries to reach out to the person he knows in his heart is there. The dramatic question we pose in the episode is: Will that work? Is this the Henry that’s going to respond to that, or is this some purely evil spirit incarnation of Henry?
The basic answer is that he’s Henry, but there could be something more in there. We don’t know that yet.
TVLINE | Henry prides himself on being a few moves ahead of everyone else. How will he do, working alongside Malcolm, who is very similar?
That’s a really good point, and it forms quite an important part of [Episode] 13, because Henry, as we’ve seen in the past, doesn’t do well responding to authority. In a way, he’s a lot like Crane.
TVLINE | Tell me something good about the finale.
It’s the first time we see the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse in action in the real world. They are actually, for the first time, galloping on Earth. We see how powerful they are and what they can do. That represents, essentially, the ultimate challenge for our team. It’s something that, not even back in Seasons 1 and 2, that Crane and Abbie had faced. They had one or two of the horsemen, but this is the full team riding, and under Dreyfuss’ control. So that’s a big thing, just in terms of action and plot… [Also], you’ll learn why the motto of our country is “E pluribus unum.”

Figures show that for every one dementia scientist there are now four cancer researchers.
Although the number of scientists battling to find a cure for dementia has almost doubled over the past six years from 1,614 to 3,169 experts say they are still playing “catch up”.
Analysis by Alzheimer’s Research UK showed there is only one researcher for every £2m of costs to the UK economy attributed to the condition, compared to 10 for cancer.
Chief executive Hilary Evans said: “While these figures show real progress in dementia research they also underline just how under-resourced research into the condition still is compared to other serious health conditions.
“We should celebrate what’s been achieved so far, but we cannot accept the status quo as being good enough – we must be even more ambitious if we are to find the life-changing treatments that are so desperately needed.
“In recent decades we’ve seen how major investment in research can change the way diseases such as cancer and heart disease are treated – now we must do the same for dementia.”
There are now 850,000 people are living with dementia in the UK – a number set to rise to more than a million by 2025.
The indiscriminate nature of the disease means it is more feared than cancer in those aged over 45.
Research shows it doubles in prevalence every five years above the age of 65.
Research shows that if onset could be delayed by five years dementia prevalence would be halved.
Professor Nick Fox, of the Institute of Neurology at University College, London, said: “If we are able to slow it when people are mildly affected they could manage at home longer with a high quality of life with a little bit of forgetfulness.
“One of the problems with Alzheimer’s is that potentially you can spend a long time unwell.
“We do not want to add years to life, we want to add life to years. We want to delay onset so people have a shorter time as possible with serious functional impairment.”
Last year the Medical Research Council, Alzheimer’s Society and Alzheimer’s Research UK announced the establishment of the UK’s first Dementia Research Institute based at University College, London.
The £250m facility will bring together experts from across the world to carry out innovative research to try and halt the development and progression of dementia.
The DRI aims to fast-track efforts to prevent a group of harrowing neurodegenerative disorders including Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s, Huntington’s disease and vascular dementia.
Alzheimer’s accounts for up to two thirds of all dementia cases. There is currently no cure for any of the neurodegenerative conditions that give rise to dementia.
Frozen food giant Iceland has donated £3 million to support the development of the DRI at University College, London.
The money is the first tranche of £10 million pledged to the project raised through the sale of 5p carrier bags in stores across the UK.
Malcolm Walker, founder and chief executive of Iceland Foods, said: “This is a cause immensely close to my own heart because there is hardly a family in the country that has not been affected by dementia.
“It is now the biggest killer in the UK and costs the country more than cancer and heart disease, yet it receives a tiny fraction of the research funding dedicated to these other conditions.”
The DRI aims to bring together some of the sharpest brains in science to accelerate the development of disease-modifying therapies and fast-track efforts to prevent a group of harrowing neurodegenerative disorders including Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s, Huntington’s disease and vascular dementia.
